Politics / South-west Plan To Oust President Buhari -arewa Youths by FRESHGIST247: 3:45pm On Jul 16, 2017
A group of northern youths, yesterday, claimed that a plan to oust President Muhammed Buhari on account of his ill-health had been launched. The group fingered the South-West as being behind the alleged plan.

The claim came amid the ripples generated by the notice issued to the Igbo people by a coalition of northern youths to leave the North by October 1.

The group of northern youths, under the aegis of Arewa Youth Forum, spoke on a day the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) asked those taking advantage of Buhari’s ill-health to make political case for themselves, to stop their activities forthwith.

NEF spokesperson, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, also announced the emergence of Paul Unongo, Second Republic politician, as the group’s leader following the demise of the convener, Alhaji Maitama Sule.

Arewa Youths The Arewa Youth Forum, in a statement obtained by Sunday Vanguard, yesterday, also warned that the North will not accept anything other than the region retaining the presidency in 2019, with or without Buhari. In the statement released by their National President, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gunjungu, in Abuja, the youths said they were aware of the “political games” some political leaders in the South-West were playing over the health of the President to edge him out and take over.

The Arewa youths accused the South-West politicians of using Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and a PDP chieftain to champion their cause, insisting that the North would resist any attempt to take over power from them now or in 2019.

Politics / MALAYE: INEC Seeks Intervention Of Chief Justice by FRESHGIST247: 7:24am On Jul 16, 2017
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approached the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to intervene in the recall process of Sen. Dino Melaye which was stopped by the federal high court, Abuja.

Prof. Okechukwu Ibeanu, National Commissioner and acting Chairman of INEC explained in a statement he issued on Saturday in Abuja said that the attention of the commission had been drawn to some media reports about its decision to obey the court order.

He said: “On the July 10, INEC received an order given by the Federal High Court, Abuja, and dated July 6.’’

He said that the order in respect to suit filed by Melaye, directed the “parties to maintain the status quo till the determination of the plaintiff’s motion on notice.’’

Ibeanu added that the Judge, in granting the relief sought by the Senator, also fixed Sept. 29 as the date to hear the Motion on Notice.

He said that by this date, the 90-day time-frame established by the Constitution for the entire recall process to be completed, would have lapsed.

He said that deeply concerned by this situation, INEC considered the court order and its implication for the Commission’s ability to carry out its constitutional function regarding the petition to recall the Senator.

He stated that after weighing all the options, the Commission, as a responsible organization, decided that it should not be seen to be disobeying a court order, “however inappropriate it may consider the order”.

“However, in this particular case, the Commission also decided to take immediate steps to vacate the court order and for the matter to be heard and determined expeditiously.

This, he said, was to ensure that the case was determined within a limit of 90 days from the date of the presentation of the petition that the exercise must be completed.

Ibeanu added that INEC also decided to draw the attention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria to the order, in view of its effect on the performance of the its constitutional duty to conduct the referendum for the recall.

Politics / Dismissed Soldiers: Nigeria’s Military Chief Risks Jail Term by FRESHGIST247: 3:21am On Jul 16, 2017
Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin, now risks jail, after disobeying an order of the Industrial Court, which compelled him to provide evidence of transmitting the appeal of a controversially dismissed officer to President Muhammadu Buhari for redress as stipulated by law, according to documents seen by PREMIUM TIMES.

The court had on June 21 ruled that Mr. Olonisakin comply within 10 days with its judgement as delivered by Edith Agbakoba in Abuja.

However, checks at the court by PREMIUM TIMES on July 3, after the period given for compliance, showed the order had not been carried out, and the Defence spokesperson, John Enenche, did not also confirm compliance.

Citing Mr. Olonisakin’s disobedience to the order, the judgement creditor, Abdulfatai Mohammed, on Friday, approached the industrial court to summon the military chief to give reason why he should not be committed to prison for “contempt of court”.

Politics / POLICE: Nigeria To Recruit 155,000 New Policemen-igp by FRESHGIST247: 12:44pm On Jul 15, 2017
The Nigerian Police have requested the Presidency for approval to recruit 155,000 rank and file officers over the next five years.

The Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim K. Idris, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Kano, saying the force proposed to recruit 31,000 police officers each year of the period.

He noted that the recruitment of these junior officers would enable the police meet the United Nations prescription of one policeman to an average 400 people.

According to him, the decision to recruit the number of officers was informed by the manpower challenge currently experienced by the force, saying that there was a freeze on recruitment between 2011 and 2015.

Alhaji Idris also said they police had approached the National Assembly for the establishment of a trust fund towards addressing the issue of greater funding for their operations,

He urged Nigerians not to be intimidated by any threat from any group of individuals, but to stay in any part of the country of their choice for their lawful businesses, as Nigeria belonged to all Nigerians. He assured them of police commitment towards protecting everybody at all times.

Meanwhile the IGP, moved by the high cases of kidnapping, armed robberies and other violent crimes on the Abuja-Kaduna road, has made additional deployment of 600 police personnel of Special Intervention Forces, comprising Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter Terrorism Units, Federal Highway Patrol Teams, Safer Highway Patrols, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS), Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and Anti-Kidnapping Units to root out criminal elements operating on that axis and make it safe for motorists, travellers, and other road users.

A press release by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said the police boss had on Thursday carried out on -the –spot- assessment of security situation along route and ensured high alertness of police personnel deployed to curtail crimes and criminality along these highways.

Phones / Telecom Operators Accounted For 61% Reported Spam Calls In Nigeria—truecaller by FRESHGIST247: 9:52pm On Jul 14, 2017
Truecaller Insights Special Report on Friday rated Nigeria as the 9th most spammed country in the world.

The Marketing Manager, Truecaller, Ms Lindsey Lamont made this known in the report obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

NAN reports that Truecaller is an identification solution application company aimed at ensuring safety of mobile users.

Lamont said that top 20 countries affected by spam calls were India with 22.6 per cent, USA and Brazil with 20.7 per cent each, Chile 17.4 per cent and South Africa with 15 per cent.

She said that Mexico was the sixth affected with 12.2 per cent, Turkey and Peru also by 12.2 per cent, Nigeria with 10.4 per cent, Egypt had 9.9 per cent, UK and Myanmar with 8.9 per cent.

Others are Italy 8.8 per cent, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Greece with 8.5 per cent, United Arab Emirates 8.2, Puerto Rico 7.9 per cent, while Morocco and Kenya by 7.7 per cent.

According to her, similar to its regional partner Kenya, Nigeria also has an issue with spam calls, but is plagued more by calls from operators.

The analysis showed that one major problem around spam calls in Nigeria was calls from telecommunications operators, which accounted for 61 per cent of the total reported spam calls.

She said that telecommunication companies make these calls to up sell data plans for promotions, among others.

Another major spam call problem that Nigerians had to deal with was the nuisance calls representing 27 per cent.

The marketing manager said that those calls were a broad spectrum of calls, and were generally unwanted calls which were disturbance to users meant for harassment and pranks.

Nigeria also had an issue with scam calls, but on a noticeably smaller scale of 10 per cent.

She said that the scam calls were for fraud attempts, money swindling, leading unsuspecting preys to unknown links, among others.

Nigerians also had a problem with telemarketing calls, which stood at two per cent.

Lamont said they were promotional calls from companies, surveys being done by analytic firms on behalf of their clients, political/robo calls, or new client outreach for services and subscriptions.

“Isn’t it the best feeling when Truecaller blocks a spam call or SMS? It is like you finally won the fight against spam.

“But, as we all know, sooner or later you run into a new spammer, and some countries have run into spammers more than others.

“Scams have been on the rise around the world, and can become easy to target those who are caught off-guard by a phone call or SMS,’’ she said.

Lamont said that the data were aggregated anonymously from incoming calls that had been marked as spam by users.

She said that they were also data that had automatically been flagged by Truecaller during the period of January 1, to May 31, to understand the monthly average spam rate.

According to her, during this period of time, Truecaller users received more than 5.5 billion spam calls.

Politics / Re: 2014 National Conference Report: To Be Or Not To Be? by FRESHGIST247: 2:09pm On Jul 13, 2017
PLs wondering why any one would stand against the 2014 confab report. That is the closest document available to Nigeria now for peaceful coexistence.
Politics / 2014 National Conference Report: To Be Or Not To Be? by FRESHGIST247: 2:06pm On Jul 13, 2017
By Chijioke Okoronkwo

With the rising spate of ethnic-based agitations and geo-political discontent in Nigeria, many stakeholders are of the view that the 2014 National Conference report should be revisited.

The proponents of the implementation of the report posit that some of the recommendations therein proffered solutions to the contending issues.

Just recently, the Senate asked the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, to transmit the 2014 National Constitutional Conference Report to it as a bill for consideration.

The request was sequel to a motion sponsored by Sen. Ahmed Lawan (APC-Yobe) entitled: “The need for National Unity and Peaceful Co-existence in Nigeria,’’ co-sponsored by 106 other senators.

Lawan’s motion had four prayers, but there was an additional prayer by Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa (PDP- Abia North), that the Federal Government should be urged to urgently forward the report to the National Assembly for deliberation.

The 2014 National Constitutional Conference headed by Justice Idris Kutigi recommended inter alia, the creation of 18 new states; three per geo-political zone.

The recommended states are Apa, Edu, Kainji, Katagum, Savannah, Amana, Gurara, Ghari, Etiti, Aba, Adada, Njaba-Anim, Anioma, Orashi, Ogoja, Ijebu and New Oyo.

Aside the 18 proposed states, the conference recommended one new state for the South East to make the zone have equal number of states with the other zones except the North West which has seven states with a note that states willing to merge can do so on conditions.

It recommended further that the sharing of the funds to the Federation Account among the three tiers of government should be Federal Government; 42.5 per cent, state governments; 35 per cent and local governments; 22.5 per cent.

On forms of government, it recommended Modified Presidential System; a home-made model of government that effectively combines the presidential and parliamentary systems of government.

It also suggested a bi-cameral legislature, in which all elected members of the legislative arms of all the tiers of government should serve on part-time basis, among other recommendations.

Ohuabunwa’s motion was seconded by Sen. Adeola Solomon Olamilekan (APC, Lagos West) and was unanimously adopted by the senators.

In agreement with the motion, Sen. Adamu Aliero (APC- Kebbi Central) said that there was need to deliberate on the report and implement the necessary recommendations.

Although some perceptive Nigerians hold that the conference report should be looked into for political development, others believe that revisiting it is uncalled for.

For instance, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) at the wake of a meeting of the Elders’ Council expressed its support to the Senate in that regard.

The President-General of the council, Dr. Kunle Olajide said “the YCE commends the Senate for its resolution.

“We urge the executive to forward the report of the 2014 National Conference to the National Assembly as an executive bill.

“The YCE urges all Nigerians to support the initiative of the National Assembly in its decision to work on the report.

“The YCE also commends the efforts of the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in holding consultation with the leaders and elders of the six zones of the country. We assure him of our support,’’ he said in a communiqué.

More so, Igbo stakeholders, in a recent meeting in Enugu came up with a communiqué which was presented by Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State, who is also, the Chairman, South East Governors Forum.

The communiqué said that Ndigbo were in support of a united Nigeria where peace, love, fairness, justice, equity and equality of opportunity were paramount regardless of creed, ethnicity, gender or political affiliation.

The communiqué said that Igbo leaders supported the restructuring of Nigeria on the basis of fairness and equity.

It said that Igbo leaders supported the report of the National Conference of 2014 and implored the Federal Government to set up structures that would trigger the implementation of the report as a matter of urgency.

Sharing similar sentiments, a rights group, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights said urgent implementation of the report was cardinal to addressing the socio-economic and political problems confronting the nation.

The chairman of the group, Mr Emeka Anosike decried the delay in implementing the conference report, saying that the group was in support of the current call groups and notable Nigerians to implement it.

According to him, the current call and agitation by Nigerians from all works of life and ethnic backgrounds for the implementation of the report showed that the people are united on the call.

He said the document provided answers and solutions to the problems affecting the country since independence.

“We as a rights group have been privileged to peruse critically through the document; I want to say without any equivocation that the report is a masterpiece and has provided answers and solutions to our problems as a country and as a people.

“We believe in the continued existence of Nigeria as one indivisible entity and we are also opposed to any violent disintegration hence the need to implement the report of the conference which undoubtedly has clearly provided the basis for this unity.

“What we are saying is that the implementation of the report is very strategic in addressing the rising ethnic agitations, separatist calls, clamour for resource control and power sharing, among others.

“The Federal Government should begin the process of making this document to become part of our law by presenting it before the National Assembly as an executive bill so that legislative action can commence on it,’’ Anosike said.

In the same vein, former Minister of Information Jerry Gana recently called on the Federal Government to implement the recommendations of the conference.

“In 2014, we gathered a very huge conference and over 600 recommendations were generated by consensus. Even if it is just 10 per cent of that was implemented, we are going somewhere.

“It is important that the Federal Government takes a look at the major recommendations of that conference with a view to examining them and implementing those that will help us to move forward,’’ he said.

Irrespective of this, the Arewa Liberation Movement says the implementation of the conference recommendations may not bring any benefits after all.

The group said in a statement issued by its National President Usman Usaman and its National Secretary Kabir Alfa that the outcome of the conference was drafted to favour a particular interest.

“Our members are of the opinion that the last national conference was convened in the interest of a few rather than all.

“We therefore recommend a more sincere and all inclusive national conference,’’ the group said in the statement.

The statement, nonetheless, restated that it neither supported nor encouraged violence for the attainment of whatever political goals or aspirations desired by any group of people.

Furthermore, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), in a communiqué at the end of its National Executive Council meeting vehemently rejected the calls for the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Conference.

The communiqué, signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the forum, Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, said that the report lacked legitimacy and was unfair to the North.

By and large, observers note that if the purpose of revisiting the conference recommendation is for the unity and development of the country which will as well douse tension in the polity, so be it.

Politics / JONATHAN: Supreme Court Verdict Would Bring PDP Together- by FRESHGIST247: 8:09am On Jul 13, 2017
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described Sen. Ahmed Makarfi’s victory on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership tussle at the Supreme Court on Wednesday as verdict that would bring PDP together.

Jonathan stated this on Wednesday on his tweeter handle in his reaction to the court judgment on the party’s leadership crisis.

The Supreme Court in Abuja on Wednesday set aside the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt that affirmed Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff as PDP National Chairman.

Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who read the judgment of the five-man panel, declared the Makarfi-led caretaker committee as the authentic leadership organ of the party.

Jonathan, who commended the Supreme Court judgment, said “I thank God for this day of justice and may God bless Nigeria.

“I believe in our jurists. We may have issues with some individuals but the Nigerian judiciary deserves respect and commendation.

“Today’s verdict is a judgment where there are no winners or losers. It is a verdict that will bring our party together.’’

He congratulated the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee, adding that “I strongly urge them not to see this as victory for a section of the party but as moral victory for constitutionality over arbitrariness.

“Thus, they must take inspiration from Gen. Yakubu Gowon and declare a ‘no victor and no vanquished policy’.

“I hereby call on all those who left the party because of leadership issues to return to their natural home and build the PDP.’’

He added that the PDP was an inclusive vehicle, not an exclusive one, saying “we see Nigerians as human beings deserving of the rule of law, separation of power and free market economy that provides level playing ground for all.

“The party that gave Nigeria the largest economy in Africa is a party with large heart enough to find a place for all Nigerians.”

The Nigerian Army has inaugurated a water treatment plant at Abakpa Cantonment in Enugu, capable of treating and supplying one million litres of water daily to the barracks and its environs.

Abakpa cantonment is the headquarters of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, who inaugurated the project on Wednesday, said the plant would solve the over 30-year-old perennial water problem in the barracks and its environs.

He said the Enugu State Government provided the transformer to power the plant and additional funds for its construction.

Buratai also said that the state government had promised to construct the road leading to the treatment plant from the cantonment gate.

The plant sources water from Miri Ocha River, flowing behind the cantonment.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Abubakar, who conceived and executed the project, said it was executed through direct labour by 44 Army Engineers.

Abubakar said the plant used rapid filtration system, adding that water from the plant had already been certified fit for consumption by the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi said the state government would collaborate with the army to replicate the technology to upgrade the water supply scheme in the state.

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akida group, in Kaduna State, has criticized Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s policies, stating that he has put the party “on a cliff running up to 2019.”

The party added that El-Rufai often failed to consult with critical stakeholders on matters relating to members and people of the state.
Addressing newsmen on Monday, the chairman of the party in the state, Tom Maitamaki said:

“The governor’s policies have put the APC on a cliff running up to 2019, when we have to give our account of stewardship to our people.
“What will be our score card? Destruction of Community peace or mortgaging the future of our Children whose state of education and development is hitting its worst level.

“The state is walking into another circle of crises, attack on traditional Institutions who have sustained our sense of community for ages from pre-colonial days.”

Some of the policies they faulted, included the sack of traditional rulers in the state, the bid to secure a $350m loan from the World Bank and the demolition of Kasuwan Barci.

“What this government knows to do best is lies even at the risk of destroying government’s own image. The Governor has so much energy –fighting to destroy his own party that brought him to power.

“The governor has no regard for public or responsible opinion and in his pharonic wisdom, he does not believe anybody has value,” Mataimaki

Politics / 2019: No Election Will Hold In Niger-delta Unless Nigeria Is Restructured – Grou by FRESHGIST247: 9:08am On Jul 10, 2017
A South-South socio-cultural group, Niger Delta Young Leaders Stakeholders (NDYLS), has warned that there would be no oil blocs allocation or general election in the region come 2019 if the country is not restructured.

A former governorship candidate in Bayelsa state, Moses Siasia, during the weekend said the group which comprised of over 60 Niger Delta Young Leaders, including legislators, present and former commissioners, government appointees and some private sector players across states of the Niger Delta Region reached the resolution after a round table meeting in Port-Harcourt.

He said the group demanded 100 per cent resource ownership, control and management, while equally condemning every shade of hate speech in any part of the country.

According to Siasia, “the Niger Delta people have unanimously agreed that restructuring embodies 100% control of their resources.

“The young leaders unanimously demand for 100% resource ownership, control and management and the restructuring of the current faulty political and economic architecture of Nigeria which is a source of provocation and they said this must be done before the 2019 general elections or there will be no elections across the region and no exploration of oil blocks.

“The young leaders are determined in their resolve to put aside ethnicity and stand as one Niger-Delta.

“We must go back to the round table and discuss the principles of equity and justice and this must take effect from the highest seat of power to the communities which will birth true federalism in a new people’s constitution. As a people united for our future, we must act now.

“We also condemn all forms of hate speech emanating from any part of the country.

“The issues facing the Niger-Delta require both collective and personal responsibilities.

“We are resolved to look inward and beyond our ethnicity in the Niger-Delta so as to build a united region. We therefore call on all Niger-Deltans to work together in tackling the deep rooted problems facing our people and environment, and define the future of the Niger-Delta.

“The Young Leaders also resolved to carry out proper sensitization programmes in states across the Region and promised to engaged with critical stakeholders on their desire to move the country forward on the basis of fairness, justice and equity.”

Politics / Kano Assembly Speaker Resigns Over Emir Sanusi Probe Abdullahi Atta Is New Kano by FRESHGIST247: 3:17pm On Jul 03, 2017
The speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Rurum, has resigned amidst allegation of collecting money to scuttle the investigation of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.

The House had moved to investigate the Emir for alleged corruption, but later backed down.

Kano’s anti-corruption agency also suspended its investigation of the monarch after prominent Nigerians, including Acting President Osinbajo, intervened.

The speaker, Mr. Rurum, faced allegation of being bribed to discontinue the probe, an allegation he denied.

Mr. Rurum resigned on Monday in a letter read at plenary by the Deputy Speaker, Ibrahim Chidariof, who presided over the sitting on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the former speaker was alleged to have collected N100 million from business mogul Aliko Dangote but failed to share the money to the members.

He had earlier at a news briefing before the assembly went on Sallah recess, denied the allegation and threatened to sue an online media organisation that first published the report.

The deputy speaker, who read the letter, said Mr. Rurum resigned to protect his image due to allegations bordering on corruption leveled against him by some of the members.

NAN reports that shortly after the letter was read and accepted, the lawmakers elected the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Abdullahi Atta, as the new Speaker.

Mr. Atta, who represents Fagge constituency, was nominated for the position by Babangida Yakudima and Zubairu Mamuda and the nomination was unanimously accepted by the members including Mr. Rurum who was at the sitting.

Politics / MEND Blasts Jonathan Over Niger Delta Development by FRESHGIST247: 10:44am On Jun 08, 2017
Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan for frittering away opportunity to develop the Niger Delta during his presidency.

MEND, in a statement by Jomo Gbomo, in reaction to a ruling by Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which dropped treasonable charges against Mr. Charles Okah, said the judgment has vindicated the Okah brothers.

Gbomo, who pointed out that “the seven years trial is another example of the slow pace of justice system in Nigeria,” commended the judgment for being “clear, thoughtful and cultivated ruling.”

Insisting that MEND had no hand, whatsoever, in plans to assassinate Jonathan, the group maintained that the former president did nothing to uplift the Niger Delta region.

The statement reads in part: “Indeed, since after the unfortunate incident of October 1, 2010, former president Jonathan has been going all around the world, labelling and slandering the Okah brothers as masterminds of an imaginary assassination attempt on his life. We are, therefore, sufficiently convinced that Justice Kolawole’s ruling has vindicated the Okah brothers.

“For the avoidance of doubt, MEND has no interest whatsoever in any plot to assassinate the former president. Rather, our grouse with the former president borders on the fact that he single-handedly frittered away the golden opportunity bestowed on him by providence to emancipate the Niger Delta.”

T.B. JOSHUA: MURDER IN THE CHURCH (PART 2)

Femi Fani-Kayode

I have many friends in the intelligence agencies both within Nigeria and outside. I was at Harrow School, Kelly College and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom with many that ended up in M15 and M16 and their sister agencies all over the world and we are friends till today.

Most of them are decent, law-abiding patriots whose purpose is simply to ensure that their country is safe and that its citizens are well-protected.

One of them, who is a good friend of mine till today and who actually heads a formidable and weĺl-known intelligence agency, recently told me that he sees his country as a plane that is in mid-flight which is being flown and piloted by the politicians and whoever may be the President, Head of State or Prime Minister at any given point in time.

He said the role of the intelligence services is to ensure that the engine of that plane runs well and that it does not overheat or knock whilst the flight is in motion and whilst the plane is in mid-air.

This is a profound description and eloquent testimony of what the intelligence agencies are meant to do. And all over the world most of them do it very well.

These are mostly courageous and patriotic men and women who live in the grey areas of our mutual existence, who operate in the murky world of secrecy and subtefuge, who do jobs and carry out operations that few of us can do, who are hardly celebrated and who are mostly unsung yet who do such a great job at keeping us safe and who carry out such a vital and critical role. Without them we would be lost.

There is, however, also a darker side. I say this because, generally speaking, these are people that are obsessed with secrecy and haunted by some of the atrocities that they and their friends and associates may have commited in the past.

A few of them are cold-blooded and have multiple personalities. Worse still they are almost sociopathic in nature. They have no feeling, empathy or sympathy for their targets, their victims, the subjects of their enquiries or the objects of their interest.

Most relevant of all is the fact that they do not always operate within the confines and parameters of the law.

Sometimes they do the most hideous and barbaric things which is why their oath and culture of secrecy unto death is so vital.

They can be very nice and pleasant on the surface but below that they are utterly ruthless and exceptionally dangerous.

Their Nigerian counterparts are no different and I have worked closely with many of them over the years.

As it is with all intelligence agents and spies,
deception and deceit is their language and their loyalty is, more often than not, to the state than to their friends and family members.

That is their training and I guess no-one can blame them for that. Finally they operate like a cult and they literally have their own strange code of conduct and coded language which is exclusive to them.

Yet despite this chilling and grim analysis quite a few of them are humane and decent people who have a deep sense of what is right and wrong and who, more often than not, wish to make amends for some of the horrific things they have done or witnessed in the past.

It was from a few of those that share this kind, generous and charitable disposition that I was given the true picture of things and the relevant information about what really happened to Prophet T.B. Joshua’s church and how and why it was brought down.

I will not mention their names but I will tell their story. And that story is as follows.

They told me why the operation was carried out, how those involved covered it up and how they attempted to hit TB Joshua the second time but failed.

THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE SAME GROUP OF OPERATIVES THAT WERE BEHIND THE FATAL “CRASH” OF GENERAL PATRICK AZAZI’S (THE FORMER NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR) HELICOPTER AND HOW GOVERNOR PATRICK YAKOWA (THE GOVERNOR OF KADUNA STATE) WAS PURPOSELY LURED ON THAT HELICOPTER IN ORDER FOR THEM TO LITERALLY “KILL TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE”.

They told me how the operation was conducted by rogue elements in the intelligence agencies without the knowledge of Mr. Eta Ekpeyong, the head of the Department of State Security (DSS) at the time who was totally loyal to Jonathan but with the knowledge and support of a handful of disloyal and ruthless senior operatives from other arms of the intelligence agencies who provided the logistics, hardware, man-power and funding for the operation.

They told me that there was a foreign component to the whole affair which I will touch on in part 3 of this essay.

They told me that there was a religious dimension to the whole affair and about how a group of fifth columists within the security agencies in Jonathan’s government had sworn that they would destabilise his government and either kill him or stop him from coming back in 2015 and how they assisted the then opposition by providing them with sensitive and often false information to use against the government.

Their view was that the country must not be ruled by a Southerner or a Christian and that Jonathan must be stopped at all costs.

T.B. Joshua’s crime was that he knew too much and that he was secrety exposing their plans to those that cared for Jonathan. He needed to be discredited, stopped, “kept busy”, rubbished or permanently silenced.

In part 3 of this essay I will go much futher into this matter and expose far more about this issue but for now two things remains clear.

That firstly the entire horrendous episode and the terrible tragedy that occured in T.B. Joshua’s church must be revisited and properly investigated by the security agencies with a view to bringing the real perpetrators, and not their victims and targets, to justice.

And that secondly the Nigerian people would do well to question ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that their government (and I mean ALL governments and not just the Buhari administration) tells them about such events or that they read, watch or listen to in what President Donald Trump so eloquently describes as the “mainstream media” (MSM).

At this point readers may ask, do intelligence agencies and governments actually kill people? Unfortunately the answer to that question is “yes, they do”.

This is especially so when they believe it is in the national security interest to do so or when they want to discredit or weaken the government that they purport to serve.

It is also pertinent to note that when they do these horrendous things they always look for someone else or some innocent group of people to use as scapegoats, to blame it on and to carry the can.

Many innocent people have either gone to jail or have been executed as consequence of this.

One should also note that oftentimes they use violent criminal networks and bloodthirsty gangsters to do their dirty work for them.

In return they give such men of the underworld official protection and sometimes even funding.
Consequently when we hear that people were eliminated by the local mafia, a group of armed robbers or any other criminal gang, they may well have done so at the behest of one of the intellingence agencies and they would have been well paid for it.

As the great writer and analyst David Icke often says, “nothing is ever as it seems or appears”.

This is the way things work in the dark “cloak and dagger” world of intelligence and espionage and this is the way things are done by what has come to be known and universally described as “the system”.

In the parlance of that murky world they call such practices “extreme measures”, “special ops” or “black ops” and those that actually carry out such operations (i.e. the footsoldiers that actually pull the triggers or detonate the bombs) are referred to as “wet boys” because what they do is not only deadly but also wet and messy.

It is a universal practice and it is something that is well-known to anyone that has ever been in the inner circles or corridors of power. It is also utterly evil and godless.

We shall look into their modus operandi in more depth with special reference to what happened in TB Joshua’s Church in the third and final part of this contribution. (TO BE CONTINUED).

Afenifere described the action of the youths as tragic.

Spokesperson for the group, Yinka Odumakin, called on the elders in the north to call them to order.

“Carrying out their threats would be a prelude to another pogrom. These elements have over the years showed their propensity to attack people, but like the Chinua Achebe said, they are holding a knife to the tiny rope that still holds the country together. I hope that if they still have elders, their elders should call them to order, otherwise, it may be the beginning of the end of Nigeria, as we know it.

“They should know that in 1967, they had a coalition to fight the Igbo but that coalition is no more there today. We know the people that fought the last war and won it. I can boldly speak for the Yoruba nation, that if the north thinks they can declare another war against the Igbo, it would not work. If they see any Yoruba man joining them to fight the Igbo, then that person must be a mercenary.

“The Igbo were not fighting, neither were they causing any crisis, but were just trying to make their grievances known in a peaceful manner. Why should they be threatened? For northerners to tell them to leave the north is sad for the polity.”

National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Okey Nwosu, described the ultimatum as a threat to the unity of the country.

Nwosu in a telephone interview said President Muhammadu Buhari through his actions and inactions orchestrated such ultimatum.

“When some elders led by President Buhari were doing certain things, some of us cautioned. Let the APC and Buhari deal with what they have caused, “ he stated

For the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) Ndigbo should not ..

I don't believe there is any place in Nigeria that is Landlocked, and even at that, there can never be a limitation where d will and idea exists.

Please, let it be known from today that South East is not landlocked. It is only our economy that is locked. One quick way of unlocking the economy of South East is through marine business.

Contrary to the impression that the South East is landlocked, the truth is that it has one of the potentially deepest seaports in the country at Osemoto/Oseokwa in Imo and Anambra States.

A seaport was designated there in 1959, but the project was abandoned and the admiralty member erased for obvious political reasons. African Development Bank (ADB) feasibility report on this is unambiguous.

Oseokwa (Ihiala LGA, Anambra State) and Osemoto (Oguta LGA, Imo State) are the deepest natural harbor in the country (over 20m deep) and offer real naval and marine transportation platforms if developed. Besides, it lies only 18 nautical miles to the Atlantic Ocean and a strategic hub for the oil industry and inland dry-docks to promote trade.
