Politics / How Former President Collected N5 Billion Monthly From The Pension Fund by FRESHGIST247: 5:42am On Nov 18, 2017
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami may have succeeded in convincing the Senate ad-hoc committee probing the return and reinstatement of fugitive former Chairman of Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina about the good intentions of his involvement in the saga following shocking revelations he made before the panel, which has been sitting in camera for obvious reasons.

The Senate had on October 24 mandated its committees on Establishment, Interior, Anti-corruption and Judiciary to investigate how the ex-pension boss was reinstated and promoted at the Ministry of Interior. The Senate panel is conducting its probe in camera with a promise to brief the media at the end of its investigation.

Multiple sources within the panel however told Saturday Sun that Malami has confessed that indeed Maina approached him for a meeting when he was in Abu Dhabi as part of the entourage of President Muhammadu Buhari’s official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in January last year but before granting him audience, he sought security clearance from the Director General of the Department of State Security, DSS, Lawal Musa Daura who gave him the nod on the condition that the Minister must attend the meeting along with a witness.

The President was also accompanied on that trip by the National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno; Ministers of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah; Environment, Aisha Mohammed, now deputy Secretary General at the UN; State Minister Petroleum, Ibe Kachukwu and that of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola.

According to one of the Senators, “the AGF Malami was, to me, very blunt and sincere but because of the sensitive nature of the revelations he made, we could not allow him say those things raw in the full glare of camera and pressmen. For instance, he told us how Maina exposed a former President who was taking N5 billion monthly from the pension fund during their meeting in Abu Dhabi.”

A further investigation of this claim from another member of the committee revealed more information. It was learnt that at the Abu Dhabi meeting, Maina, who was bitter about the way he was treated by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, decided to spill the beans on some of the dirty deals carried over into Buhari government by officials of the previous administration.

“We were told how Maina gave information about loopholes through which a former President was collecting N5 billion monthly from the pension fund while other officials were equally busy taking away billions every month. We were also told how at the peak of the bazaar, Maina was invited to the presidential villa and in the night when he was leaving the villa, his vehicle was sprayed with bullets with a view to kill him and block any trace of the stolen billions but he was able to survive that because he drove a bullet proof car on the fateful day.

Soldiers with the Zimbabwe Defense Forces (ZDF) have seized control of the state broadcasting outlet, it was reported in the wee hours of the morning in Harare. The seizure is speculated to be part of an military coup against the government of longtime President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe.

Two employees of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), as well as a human rights worker, told the local Reuters bureau that soldiers occupied the state broadcasters’ headquarters in the capital city.

Foreign Affairs / Zimbabwe’s Military Warns Mugabe, Threatens To ‘step In’ by FRESHGIST247: 11:28pm On Nov 13, 2017
Zimbabwe’s army chief has warned President Robert Mugabe to end the purge in the country’s ruling Zanu-PF party, threatening to step in.

The warning came a week after Mr. Mugabe fired his deputy, Emmerson Mnangagwa, a move widely seen as meant to clear the path for Mr. Mugabe’s wife, Grace, to become president.

Mr. Mnangagwa, a former defence minister, was once seen as a possible president. He has since fled into exile.

On Monday, Army Chief Constantino Chiwenga, a general, told a news conference attended by 90 senior army officers that the removal of people who were involved in the independence struggle, like Mr. Mnangagwa, would not be tolerated, the BBC reports.

Politics / Destruction Of 337 Bottles Of Beer In Jigawa: Hypocrisy Gone Too Far by FRESHGIST247: 2:38am On Oct 24, 2017
BY IKECHUKWU ONYEMAH

When we pretend to have virtues, moral principles or religious beliefs, it perhaps makes us feel closer to the creator. More often than not, we rarely take into cognizance, the effect of such on others.

when we do not really exhibit such virtue in totality, we become nothing but hypocritical with or without the knowledge of it.

On Thursday the 12th of October 2017, an online news media (http://punchng.com/jigawa-lg-destroys-475-bottles-jerry-cans-of-assorted-beer/)

had it that “ Jigawa LGA destroys 475 bottles, jerry-can of assorted beer”

According to the report, “Hisbah, a sharia law enforcement agency in Jigawa, has prohibited the consumption of beer in all part of the state.”

They however warned the beer vendors to change trade or face the full wrath of the law.

One will not deny Jigawa et al the right to make and implement laws that are aimed at bringing sanity to the state neither do I intend to debate the rightness or otherwise of the religious believe of a people so long as it does not infringe on my own individual right.

That said, it is expected of states that have adopted such moral or spiritual laws to have taken a holistic approach in the implementation so as to avoid being hypocritical.

In Nigeria, Nine states of Zamfara, Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, Bauchi, Borno, Jigawa, Kebi and Yobe have fully embraced this law.

One question which readily comes to mind is; what happens to the owners and manufacturers of this products who are legitimate companies operating and paying their VAT to the federal government of Nigeria?

In the same country, some markets are denied them yet they generate huge revenue for Government which is shared by all 36 states plus FCT without restriction.

It is common knowledge that one who abhors crime should not be in possession of the proceed. Consumption of beer falls short of “sharia law” in Jigawa, it is thus prohibited. So should the VAT (revenue) from beer.

Consequently, to avoid being hypocritical in our quest for spiritual uprightness, the states where this law have been passed and prohibition on sale of beer in implemented, should in truthfulness to faith, compel the federal government through the FIRS to separate the revenue from beer before it is shared.

By so doing only states that open up their market should also share from its revenue and the states that have closed their market for this product should not turn around and share from the proceed. It is highly hypocritical and defeats the whole essence of religious virtue which the “sharia law” seeks to promote.

Politics / PDP Stakeholders Endorse Adeniran As National Chair by FRESHGIST247: 9:43am On Oct 23, 2017
Barring any lastminute change in plan, former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, might emerge as the next National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Multiples sources confirmed to New Telegraph that major stakeholders in the party have endorsed Adeniran’s candidature for the PDP national chairmanship. “Northern caucus and former presidents are with him. The Northern caucus is going to take a common position this week to back Adeniran. Most of the stakeholders are rooting for the former minister. He is the choice of the party.

That is the general consensus of the PDP, although there might be dissenting voices,” an influential member of the PDP told New Telegraph. A party leader also told New Telegraph that PDP has zoned the national chairmanship to the South- West.

Adeniran is one of the six persons who have indicated interest to contest the party’s number one office at the December 9 National Convention. Others are former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George; former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and founding Chairman of Daar Communications, Dr. Raymond Dokpesi. PDP governorship candidate for Lagos State in 2015, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, and former Minister of Sports, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, are also in the race. There are indications that former Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus and former Oyo State governor, Rashidi Ladoja, who just returned to the PDP, are equally nursing the ambition.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party will meet tomorrow to fix a date for the convention, which many believe will hold on December 9 in Abuja. The National Caretaker Committee of the party will, the same day, meet with the chairmanship aspirants at the PDP National Secretariat, shortly before the NEC meeting.

It is not yet clear the purpose of the meeting, but it might be to impress it on the aspirants on the need for rancour-free contest. Investigations by New Telegraph revealed that Adeniran is most favoured among all the aspirants.

“We have looked at all the people who want to be the National Chairman of our party and I can tell you that most people prefer Prof. Adeniran. Not that the other persons are not good or they are not qualified, but we looked at so many factors. “Number one is that Prof. Adeniran is not facing any corruption charge. Yes, there are some others in the race who are not on trial, but Prof. Adeniran’s case is different.

“He is a gentleman and he has experience. Prof. Adeniran is not a controversial person, and he is always ready to listen to people,” a member of the party volunteered. The source further revealed that before the party stakeholders finally zeroed in on Adeniran, Daniel was also a serious contender. According to him, Daniel failed the integrity test because he is still facing corruption trial at the court brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “We don’t want a National Chairman who will be distracted by the court.

The way things are going, we’re going to witness more political persecution from the All Progressives Congress (APC) government now that we are approaching the general elections. “So we cannot afford to give the APC the opportunity to brand our party corrupt simply because our National Chairman is standing trial. It will be a great embarrassment to the party,” he added..........

Politics / God’s General, Bishop David Oyedepo And ‘the Great Escape’ by FRESHGIST247: 5:09am On Oct 23, 2017
By Sunday Silver E.

Living Faith Church also known as Winners Chapel celebrated God for saving the life of Bishop Oyedepo, the founder and president whom God delivered from plane crash recently.

The Winners chapel Ikorodu branch, Lagos state, were not left out in the praise jamboree as they participated in the praise service. This was how they celebrated God for their Bishop whom they often called papa. They had this to say;

“Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with tambourine and harp…” Psalm 149:1-3.
This perfectly describes the prevailing atmosphere at the Living Faith Church, Ikorodu (a.k.a Winners’ Chapel, Ikorodu), on Friday, 20th of October, 2017.

The Winners’ Chapel, Ikorodu joined other Winners’ Chapel stations all over the Nation, to observe a special Praise and Thanksgiving service, to offer high praises to God for the mighty deliverance He wrought in the life of our Father in the Lord, Bishop David Oyedepo, His wife, and other members of his team as their were airborne on an international flight to Israel.

Bishop David Oyedepo and his team, experienced what has been aptly called, ‘GREAT ESCAPE’ when God averted a potential air-crash and ensured safe landing of the plane they were traveling in.

Miraculously, everyone in the aircraft were unhurt. This is a confirmation of the Word of God in Isaiah 59:19-20, “When the enemy comes like a flood, the Spirit of God will lift up a standard against Him.”

Giving account of the incident, Bishop David Oyedepo was quoted as saying, “There was a mid-air crisis; there was a serious turbulence, but there was no apprehension. We were on the Mediterranean sea when it happened, but the One who divided the Red sea is still dividing seas. Jesus took control, landed the plane safely. And, we were just celebrating the faithfulness of God.”

Captain Samuel Adegboyega, the pilot of the recent escape reported this:
“The main malfunction we had on the Cyprus-Israel flight was a Stabilizer Trim Motor Failure. During the said flight, after the trim motor failure, the autopilot could no longer exert the required pressure to keep the aircraft in the required attitude for stable flight. I disconnected the autopilot, took and returned the aircraft to the required attitude for that phase of flight. Because the aircraft was “out of trim” during this take over, the aircraft abruptly pitched up with much G-force and I counteracted it with a pitch down force. These two counter forces caused the “abrupt turbulent” movement in the cabin and the cargo hold. Heavy items in the cargo hold fell from their compartments and made the loud bang noise we heard.”

It is on record, that this is not the first time the enemy will try to crash the prophet’s aircraft. In 1997, as the servant of God and his team were on a journey from Kaduna to Lagos, the aircraft they travelled in, refused to Land. After several fruitless efforts by the pilot to successfully land the aircraft, God stepped in, and the plane was eventually landed.

In 1998, on a journey from Lagos to Kano, the evil one made a deadly attempt again. As they progressed on the journey mid-air, one of the engines of the aircraft packed up. When this scary thing happened, the servant of God – Bishop David Oyedepo, by divine leading, directed the pilot to turn and return to Lagos. As soon as they landed in Lagos, everyone in the aircraft had a loud noise from the engine signalling that the only functional engine has packed up too. What a great deliverance!

We thank the God of this commission for making the pilots to react promptly. Similar failures in the past have resulted in fatal accidents that resulted in loss of lives due to lateness of pilots’ reaction. From the report on the flight
What a mighty God we serve! For the Winners’ Family all over the world, the current incident has served as a Faith booster, because the Lord, once again, displayed His avowed commitment to protect His covenant children, from every form of molestation by the wicked one and his cohorts, as stipulated in Psalm 105:15, “Touch not my anointed, do my prophets no harm. Our God is indeed a Faithful God

Politics / Laziness Responsible For North’s Opposition To Restructuring –atiku by FRESHGIST247: 5:28pm On Sep 25, 2017
Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar has taken northerners who are opposed to the current clamour for the restructuring of the nation to the cleaners, accusing them of laziness.

“I don’t know what those who are against restructuring are afraid of. Those afraid must be lazy,” he declared.

Atiku who spoke last weekend in Abuja while delivering a keynote address at a youth forum organised by a conglomeration of civil society groups under the auspices of Play Forum, said he would continue to speak against the current faulty ‘unitary federalism’ structure even at the detriment of his political ambition.

“I want to agree essentially that there is every need for us to sit down and talk about our future. This is because the arrangements in the last 50 years or so have not served us very well.

“I am not a product of the current structure of Nigeria. I am a product of regional government. I saw the government at work and I have also seen the current arrangement at work.

“That was why I came out, some people even said to the detriment of my political career, to advocate for restructuring or rearrangement or whatever you call it, of the present structure of the country. I still stand by it. But we cannot determine the nitty-gritty of this restructuring until we are able to dialogue and agree on how we want to continue to live together as a country.

“It is good that all the representatives of the ethnic groups agreed that we should continue to live together. I believe it is imperative. But I also don’t believe in the current arrangement, which I have always referred to as unitary federalism, which was a creation of a prolonged military rule.

“It all started after the civil war, when General Murtala Mohammed set up the Constituent Assembly of 1978 and specifically instructed the Assembly to recommend a very strong Federal Government which no component can challenge or try to secede from. He was understandably coming from the perception of Biafra civil war. He felt that the war was caused by the region, which felt that it was too independent to pull out of the country. Subsequently, they kept amending the constitution centralising more and more power at the centre,” he said.

The Waziri Adamawa blamed the current political structure on the failure by military government to implement the Constitutional Conference of 1994/1995 recommendation of a single term of six years for the president to rotate among all the six geo-political zones.

“Of course, I was a member of the Constitutional Conference of 1994/1995, and what we actually drafted was not what they eventually came out with. We proposed a presidential system with single term of six years to be rotated among the six geo-political zones of the country.

“By now, about four zones would have produced the president. We also said that after 36 years, we could review that provision if Nigerians believed it is the best season, otherwise we could discard it.

“By the time we won election in 1999, we saw an entirely different constitution. I was told that they set us a review committee headed by Niki Tobi (retired Justice of the Supreme Court), which tampered with the draft and ended up with the constitution we now have today. However, on a serious note, we have seen that the fact that a zone produced a president does not mean that he will get the zone developed. Former president Jonathan could not construct a road from Port Harcourt to Bayelsa.

“Even the South West road we started during our administration, he could not continue. Until former president Obasanjo finished his eight-year term, he could not complete the road from Lagos to Otta where his farm is.

“Another issue that needs restructuring is the economy. Left for me, I will ask every part of this country to take charge of its resources while the Federal Government should handle defence, foreign affairs, and immigration among others in the Exclusive List.

“I use to tell people that I would not have gone to school if I was born today. My parents were so poor they won’t afford to send me to school. I was born during the era education was free, food was free for me, I was sponsored from primary school to university. There was even a job waiting for me before I graduated. Yet there was no oil then. I am not certainly a product of oil boom Nigeria.

“So, I don’t know what those who are against restructuring are afraid of. Those afraid must be lazy. We fought the civil war with the Igbo. Today, the Igbo have been completely rebuilt, but we still find mud houses in the north. Is it the fault of the easterners that the north is like that?” he queried

“So, there are more fundamental issues that we need to deal with after which we would have settled on what basis we want our federation to be. How do we draw the boundary because even the Ijaw are not contiguous to each other. I come from a state where we are minorities. In Adamawa, whether you are Hausa, Fulani, Christian or Moslem, you are from the minority. It is the same thing in Taraba.

“I think that what is most important is the devolution of powers and resources with the various governments whether states or regions. How do the people hold those in power accountable for the resources handed over to them? We are not as educated as we are today in the First Republic, yet it beats my imagination how those in charge of the local governments were more efficient, honest and transparent in accountable administration Since we have agreed to remain one successful country, it is not complicated because you can start with all the recurrent items in the constitution.

The president can dialogue with the governors or National Assembly for states to take charge of the roads, hospitals, schools and such other items in the Concurrent List while the Federal Government will continue with items on the Exclusive List.”

Politics / Tinubu: No Better Nigeria With An Undue Concentration Of Power At The Federal by FRESHGIST247: 4:28pm On Sep 24, 2017
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has aligned himself with those canvassing for urgent repair of the fabrics of the nation, saying time was no longer on the side of Nigeria.

Tinubu, however, cautioned those agitating for the break-up of the country to tread softly, noting that taking such step “would make us more vulnerable to outside influences.”

The former Lagos State governor spoke yesterday as Principal Guest of Honour/Keynote Speaker at the 2017 Annual Dinner of King’s College Old Boys’ Association (KCOBA) at King’s College, Lagos. He was represented by former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Wale Edun.

Politics / I Will Expose Your Role In Chibok Girls Kidnapping, Alhassan Threatens Elrufai by FRESHGIST247: 7:44am On Sep 10, 2017
The embattled Minister of Women Affairs, Amina Alhassan has threatened to expose Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir Elrufai and his role in Chibok girls kidnapping.

The Minister said she was surprised that a dirty character like Elrufai could even have the gut to comment against her preference for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for 2019 Presidential race.

She said, there are lot of things Nigerians needs to know about the planning and execution of Chibok girl kidnapping because those behind it will be unmasked very soon. The intention was very obvious, to defame and blackmail PDP and Jonathan out of power.

The Minister became angry by the comment credited to Elrufai where he was quoted as saying that Buhari was severely warned not to appoint Amina Alhassan as Minister.

Mallam Elrufai said Amina Alhassan’s leaved Video, an indication that she has never been loyal to President Buhari from day one, noting that her loyalty lies with someone who is not even ready to support the party to success just because the person also want to become a president

In her response, Amina said those who know history well could tell about the treacherous nature of Elrufai who can go to any length to stab anyone just to rise politically, she said Elrufai was a nobody who was as poor as church rat if not for Atiku that brought him to political relevance.

The same Elrufai was among those who plotted against Jonathan by tactically supporting Boko Haram and Kidnapping of Chibok girls, the information is out there where he lied that Jonathan wanted to kill him and other top members of APC by raising a false alarm about sniper list. No sane Nigerians will take Elrufai serious because he is an unrepentant addicted liar..

Romance / Sex At Benue IDPs Camp: Condoms, Pants Litter Camp (Photos) by FRESHGIST247: 5:12am On Sep 07, 2017
The recent flood disaster in Benue State has paved way for sex-crazed persons to have fun at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) set up to cater for victims.

DAILY POST exclusively gathered that the romp has become rampant in the IDP camp within the last one week.

Our reporter, who was at the IDP camp during the weekend, discovered that despite the conducive environment, some people are engaging in sexual intercourse right in the camp.

Packs of used condoms and a blood-stained pant were seen.

One of the IDPs, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, alleged that some individuals troop into the camp at night in the name of bringing relief materials to the flood victims but end up ‘bedding’ some of the homeless female victims.

He said aside the visitors, men and women within the camp also engage in sexual escapade.

A mother of three, who gave her name as Rose told this reporter that a particular man she identified as Famous always come to the camp at night and go out with some of the girls.

“This is what we have been facing here within the last one week. They have turned the camp to a sex haven.

“In fact, there is this particular man who calls himself Famous, each time he comes here, he stays till late night.

“Sometimes, he ends up going out with some of the girls, whom he claims are his relatives”, she said.

Asked if she had reported to the emergency officials, Mrs. Rose said, “It is not my business to do that. If the girls agree with him, who am I to stop them?”

An official of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, who said they have no right to stop any legally married couple from making love.

“It is not part of our duty to stop anyone from having sex. We have not heard of any rape case so far, so I can’t speak on people having sex.

“Don’t forget we have married people in this camp. We can only advise them to avoid it for the meantime,” the official who declined to be named told DAILY POST.

When informed that some packs on condoms and blood-stained pant were seen in the camp, she angrily replied thus: “nobody has complained to us about this. I am just hearing this for the first time.”

“If you see condoms and blood-stained pant, then I have no idea of how they got in here. Excuse, I am busy now.”

When contacted, the Benue State Police PRO, Mosesw Yamu, said he is not aware of the development.

“Was anybody raped? I was in the camp today and I didn’t see such. Such things are better seen and not heard.

“These are pictures and subject to verification, besides, nobody reported any case of rape or any form of sexual abuse in the camp,” he said.

The communique signed by Mazi Alex Okemiri of the World Igbo Youth Council, Prof. Helen Ogbonna, Igbo Diaspora Women Professionals and Comrade Obi Izuo of the Igbo Students’ Forum, stated that out of 21 persons shortlisted earlier, seven scaled through in the screening exercise they carried out.

The group said there was no going back on the issue of Igbo presidency project in 2019.
The Communique read in part: “We met today in Enugu to review our earlier stand on the 2019 presidency as well as other burning issues in the polity and firmly took the following decisions:

“That there is no going back on the Igbo presidency project as it remains the only way to appease Ndigbo and ensure equity, justice and fairness in the scheme of things in Nigeria.
“Out of the 21 persons earlier shortlisted for the position, the following persons have now scaled through a screening process by a special committee set up for that task.

“For the All Progressives Congress (APC), we have Governor Rochas Okorocha, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu and Chief Ken Nnamani; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – Chief Ike Ekweremadu, Chief Peter Obi and Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, (red.); United Progressive Party (UPP), Chief Chekwas Okorie.”

The group said they arrived at the decision by considering the track records of the candidates, their health status and viability in terms of governance.

“As we said earlier, the possible candidates should not bother about the campaign fund as over N3 trillion shall be mobilised from the diaspora for the project. So, we want to re-assure our people that the resources to achieve this project will be available through sons and daughters of Igbo land abroad. Mobilisation is on top gear and shall be fully kicked off on October 1, 2017, when we will shortlist the last three persons that shall fly the flag of the above parties on behalf of Ndigbo.

They warned that no Igbo man should accept to work as a campaign manager for any other candidate from other regions.
Reviewing the case of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, the groups warned that any attempt to re-arrest him would spell doom for the country.

“We caution Nigeria may cease to exist if Nnamdi Kanu is re-arrested. This may also be the fate of the country if the planned October 1 massacre is carried out against Ndigbo living in the North. Arab spring is starring us in the face with the current genocide being packaged to take place in the North,” the group warned.

Politics / Obiano Conspiracy? by FRESHGIST247: 7:33pm On Aug 13, 2017
By Ikechukwu Onyemah
Sometimes in June this year, it was reported (rumored) that a large catch of arms were found in Anambra state, the state commissioner of police told nigerians there was no truth in it. According to him as reported by sunnewonline

“What actually happened was that on June 12, a member of vigilance operatives went to a pit somewhere in Uruagu, Nnewi, and dug out two rusted old magazines and ammunition.

“The vigilante operative drew the attention of the President-General of the community, Mr Charles Nwonye, who ultimately informed the police, and I directed the officer in charge of SARS, Awkuzu, to recover the items.

“We are surprised that a senseless story is making the rounds that large cache of ammunition was discovered in a lorry that conveyed yam tubers into the community to cause mayhem.Nothing of sort happened in this command.
“It is falsehood at its height. We wonder who is peddling this senseless rumour,” the police boss said.

Also the state government through the commissioner for Information, Tony Nnacheta, informed Ndi Anambra and Nigerians that “the state government and security agencies have undertaken exhaustive investigation into the story and found it to be false.”

He described the story as the handiwork of mischief makers, who were bent on creating unnecessary tension and setting up the people of the state against one another.
Barely two months down the line, the world was alarmed by the kind of killing that has not if not ever happened in the state or and the region at large. Innocent worshipers were killed during a church service on Aug. 6 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo council in Anambra, killing no fewer than 13 persons and injured 27.

Again Governor Willie Obiano, who visited both the church and the teaching hospital, described the incident as very worrisome, adding that preliminary investigations by the Police showed that it was a case between two people from the community who were resident abroad.

The governor, debunked reports attributing the incident to terror attacks, again reiterated his earlier statement that the incident was a spill over of a drug war between indigenes of the state living abroad.

Ndi anambra and Nigerians have raised concerns on the hasty way the Governor and the police chief investigated the case.

And as if that was not enough, today Some people suspected to be gunmen on Sunday, shot dead a policeman and a civilian near Assemblies of God Church, Oguta Road Onitsha, Anambra.

An eyewitness said that the gunmen had stopped near the Church, adding that on sighting some policemen at the church, they opened fire on them.
The source also said the attackers made away with the rifle of the slain policeman.
“When the firing became too hot, the policemen abandoned their patrol vehicle and ran away for safety.

“The gunmen moved to their patrol van and took a gun belonging to the policeman they killed,” he said.
The eye witness said he could not identify the number of armed men involved.
Another eyewitness said, “Gunmen on Okada (motorcycle) shot a policeman and collected his rifle.

They also shot dead an Okada man while escaping and the passenger he was carrying was injured.
The policeman was the one armed among his colleagues; they were providing security while church service was going on at Assemblies of God Church, Oguta road Onitsha.
Unsurprising, Mr Garba Umar the Commissioner of Police in Anambra said “it was not an attack on the church”

One can only ask how this trend of instant arm chair investigation by the police has become the order of the day in Anambra. What is the State governor and his police chief not telling Ndi Anambra. How did the police know the intent of the gun men who are yet to be apprehended by the police as we speak.

Governor Willie Obiano should at this point do the needful, proper investigation should be done to unravel those behind this new trend of Killing.
Those who have been given quite notice to return home cannot now be killed in their own land by “unknown gun men”

Foreign Affairs / SOUTH AFRICA: President Zuma Survives As ‘vote Of No Confidence’ Fails by FRESHGIST247: 4:37am On Aug 09, 2017
South Africa President Jacob Zuma cashed on the overwhelming majority of his African National Congress (ANC) to survive another major threat to his tumultuous tenure foot-printed by fraud and corruption allegations.

A total of 384 parliamentarians voted; with less than half, 177, supporting the vote of no confidence.

More than half of the voters, 198, opposed the motion while nine lawmakers abstained.

The voting shows that the anti-Zuma coalition got some ANC votes but not enough to get a majority to remove the president.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Reveals Those Behind Anambra Church Killings by FRESHGIST247: 5:28pm On Aug 07, 2017
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has alleged that the leaders of the apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, were behind the gunman attack on worshippers in St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu in Anambra state.

He made the allegations while addressing IPOB members who paid him a visit at his Umuahia residence yesterday.

According to him, Ohanaeze leadership allegedly accepted financial inducement from anti-Biafra individuals and organization to divide the opinions of South-easterners through various media statements so that terror could be unleashed on the people already divided in thoughts.

He further dismissed the reports that claim the shooting was a product of on-going feud between two overseas-based drug barons of Igbo origin.

Kanu said: “They have killed our people in Onitsha. They have been to the church to massacre our people in Ozubulu.

Foreign Affairs / Pence Denies Eyeing Presidential Bid Amid Distance With Trump Over Russia by FRESHGIST247: 1:38pm On Aug 07, 2017
U.S. Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday denied that he is preparing for a presidential election run in 2020, saying the suggestion is “disgraceful and offensive.”

Pence was responding to a New York Times report that some Republicans were moving to form a “shadow campaign” as though President Donald Trump were not involved. It said multiple advisers to Pence “have already intimated to party donors that he would plan to run if Mr. Trump did not.”

The report said Pence had not only kept a full political calendar but also had created his own independent power base, including a political fund-raising group called the “Great America Committee.”

But Pence called the article “fake news” and said his entire team was focused on advancing Trump’s agenda and seeing him re-elected in 2020.

Politics / I’ve No Regrets Aborting Third Term -nnamani by FRESHGIST247: 11:16am On Aug 06, 2017
Former Senate president, Ken Nnamani, has said if given another opportunity, he would still preside over the stoppage of third term tenure as he did during the era of former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Speaking while chairing National Seminar on the theme “Unity in diversity: Security and national development” held at the Department of State Services’ (DSS) Institute of Security Studies in Abuja, Senator Nnamani condemned agitations for secession.

“What I want to talk about is the issue of general agitations. I hope you don’t go with the comment of the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, that if you obey Mr President as a symbol of Nigeria, you have obeyed the country. It is not necessarily correct in all cases.

“If you read the revelation of the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, about Obasanjo, which has not been denied, you will understand that the statement from Arase is not true. For instance, he said on the issue of third term that Nnamani cannot go free; whatever that means I don’t know.

“Yes, I presided over the plenary for third term, and all that I needed was to call a spade by its name. If I have the opportunity to do it again, I will do the same thing,” he said.

Health / Research: Frequent Ejaculation Reduces Risk Of Prostate Cancer by FRESHGIST247: 9:15pm On Jul 22, 2017
Men who ejaculate often may have a lower risk of prostate cancer than their peers who don’t do it as frequently, according to researchers in the U.S.
Researchers followed about 32,000 men starting in 1992 when they were in their 20s and continuing through to 2010. During this period, almost 4,000 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Men who ejaculated at least 21 times a month in their 20s were 19 percent less likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than men who ejaculated no more than seven times a month, the study found. When in their 40s, men who blew their load more often were 22 percent less likely to get a prostate cancer diagnosis.

“Ejaculation frequency is, to some extent, a measure of overall health status in that men at the very low end of ejaculation – 0 to 3 times per month – were more likely to have other (medical problems) and die prematurely from causes other than prostate cancer,” said lead study author Jennifer Rider.

Rider hypothesized that those who cum more are just healthier overall, saying “the results of our study suggest that ejaculation and safe sexual activity throughout adulthood could be a beneficial strategy for reducing the risk of prostate cancer.”

Prostate cancer accounts for 15 percent of all new cancer diagnoses worldwide, the researchers note in the journal of European Urology. Established risk factors like age, race and family history are not “modifiable,” they add, and there are few lifestyle changes that can be recommended to men to lower risk.
To understand the connection between ejaculation frequency and cancer, Rider and colleagues reviewed data from questionnaires men completed about sexual health and examined medical records and lab tests to verify which participants were diagnosed with prostate tumors.

It may be too soon to weigh the merits of sex as a tool for cancer prevention as frequent ejaculation through sex or masturbation probably results from other factors that contribute to good health, like healthy diet and normal weight, which may also lower the risk of cancer. As Dr. John Gore, a urology researcher at the University of Washington states, “I don’t think we need to tell men ‘if you don’t lose it, you lose it’”.

But hey, if it’s going to help you get a little bit more action…why not run with it?

Car Talk / Innoson Motors To Export 400 Locally Made Vehicles To Mali by FRESHGIST247: 6:58pm On Jul 21, 2017
The Charge‘d Affair of Nigera in Mali, Yara Abdulsalam, says an indigenous motor manufacturing company, Innoson Motors, has signed MoU with a Malian firm to export 400 locally made vehicles to Mali.

Abdulsalam made the announcement on Friday in Abuja when he led a delegation of businessmen from Mali to visit the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama.

He said that during the week, Innoson Motors signed Memorandum of Understanding with Taxi Plus VIP, a Mali based transport company for the expansion of transport business in that country.

He said the development was the outcome of “Made-in-Nigeria products exhibition” held in Bamako in 2016.

He said that the exhibition was facilitated by Ginco Group, a Nigerian firm based in Mali to show case Nigeria’s potentials.

Abdulsalam said: “from the exhibition, Taxi Plus VIP approached the embassy that they wanted to import vehicles from China but, we told them that we have indigenous company in Nigeria that manufactures vehicles.

“They started talking with Innoson through Nigerian Export Promotion Commission (NEPC) and the deal was later finalised.

“Mali is the centre of Francophone countries and has boundary with eight countries.

“If the MoU materialises, it will positively affect all other countries and will increase Foreign Direct Investment in Nigeria.”

In his remarks, the Minister expressed delight at the development and described it as “the beginning of industrial revolution in Nigeria.’’

He said that it was a good development that would enhance job creation and stem the rate at which youths embark on dangerous adventure to Europe in search greener pasture.

“So what you are achieving can be the beginning of revolution in our country; the longest journey has to start from somewhere.

“What you are doing represents a giant leap for Africa because it involved trading among ourselves.

“What I found so interesting is that we are trading at the highest technology level with the export of automobile, cars and buses to one another.

“As we are now laying the foundation, the sky is the limit for Africa; it means we have broken that glass ceiling that is holding us down,” he said.

Onyeama commended the Nigerian embassy in Mali for providing the institutional support for the MoU.

Politics / Lagos LG Election: Violence May Erupt In Lagos On Saturday – TMG by FRESHGIST247: 8:10am On Jul 21, 2017
Transition Monitoring Group, TMG, has warned that the tension building around the coming elections for the Local governments and the LCDAs coming up in Lagos State on Saturday the 22nd of July 2017, may result in violence.
This is contained in a statement on Thursday signed by Abiola Akiyode–Afolabi, Chairperson and Sulaimon Arigbagbu, South West Coordinator, TMG.

TMG said it is particularly worried about the incessant violence in some areas of Lagos, particularly in Mushin due to issues surrounding the nomination of candidates and the tension building up in some quarters due to undemocratic activities of some of the major political parties in the run up to the election and the impact of such tension for the coming elections.

The statement added: “We are also concerned about the speed with which the Lagos State House of Assembly passed an amendment to the Lagos Electoral Law regulating the conduct of election to allow for the substitution of a party candidate before the elections.
“The new bill allows a political party to withdraw and substitute candidate not later than three (3) days to LASIEC verification.

It also states that any candidate can withdraw from contesting not later than three (3) days to the election by personally taking a letter of withdrawal to the State Secretary of the party involved who must also personally take same to LASIEC not later than 12noon, three (3) days to the election.

“TMG is worried about the implications and dangers such amendment portends on the credibility of the Saturday, 22nd Lagos State Local Government Area (LGA) Council elections as scheduled by LAISEC.Conduct of credible, free, fair and legitimate elections cannot be achieved in this kind of arrangement with an amendment taken place just three days to election.

“Furthermore, we are also apprehensive of the implications of the multiplicity of court cases relating to party candidatures giving the fact that the election is just three days away.

Such conflicting decisions could cast aspersion on the credibility and legitimacy of the elections.

“We also express displeasure over the latest pronouncement by the authorities of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LAISEC) regarding its planned accreditation plan and observer’s deployment for the Saturday Local Government Election in Lagos State.

“Our concern is further heightened by the refusal by LASIEC to deploy Card Reader for the conduct of this coming elections. This is an anti-climax to the widely acknowledged improvement to our Electoral System during the 2015 General Elections.

“As a flagship organization on election and governance monitoring in Nigeria, TMG is seriously concerned about plethora of allegations trailing the preparations for the election and the lopsided observer’s deployment plan adopted by LAISEC. TMG urges the commission to reconsider its decision on these issues.

“We call on LASIEC to ensure highest standard in the conduct and administration of the coming Lagos LG/LCDAs elections, by carrying out their responsibilities in accordance with law, and without fear or favour. We hope that LASIEC is committed to an open, genuine, free and appropriate process that is devoid of any suspicion misgiving in the process leading to the election.

Politics / Anambra Election: Kanu Orders Sit At Home On November 18 by FRESHGIST247: 12:43pm On Jul 19, 2017
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has appealed to his followers to sit at home on November 18 if they want to actualize Biafra.

The IPOB leader gave the call while addressing a huge crowd at Nri, Anambra State on Tuesday.

Noting that Biafra would come like a huge surprise to many, Kanu said this can only happen when people cooperate with leaders heading the secession struggle.

According to Kanu, “Biafra would come as a surprise to many if the people cooperated with the blue-print of the leaders of the agitation.

“If you want Biafra to be restored, sit at home on November 18. I am not saying you should fight or take up arms; rather you will see Biafra emerging like the rising sun very soon.”

Expressing joy that the people of the Middle Belt had realized their mistake in taking sides with the Federal troops against “Biafrans” during the civil war, Kanu said, “the agitation for Biafra is a true fight for freedom, and they are now supporting the move”.

He also frowned at the visit of the former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair to the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Kanu claimed that Blaire’s visit was to lend support to the North in perpetuating their dominance of the Nigerian political space to the detriment of the South.
