A trip to any Nigerian hospital is a close shave with death. Nigerians believe more in "packaging" than professionalism. Beautiful edifices alone do not make a good hospital. Nigeria happened to her and her family. Propofol shouldn't be administered to anyone not on mechanical ventilation. If and when used, it is prior to immediate intubation preparatory for artificial ventilation.

Like I always point out, there is a reason why there are more than 20 mortuaries along the highway from Okigwe - Port-Harcourt. Death seems more profitable than saving lives.

May God deliver us from Nigerian hospitals and Nigerian health care professionals. Nigerian hospitals are just mortuaries. Quack health care professionals everywhere. I don't want to talk about my own personal experience with them quite recently. The other day, it was a man that lost his wife who had successfully delivered a baby to the careless hands of quack health care professionals in one hospital in Lekki. The worst is that they keep going on strike every now and then, yet they are all quacks. A state of emergency should be declared over health care practice in Nigerian hospitals, too much quacks. My heartfelt condolences to Chimamamda over this painful loss. Take heart dear Sis and may God comfort you.

Once I become president ....I will ensure pass mark of all medical exam from first MB to clinicals will be 98% ....

I don't see how getting 55/100 in anatomy should be allowed as pass mark for someone that must know every single aspect of the human body flawlessly or something could go terrible wrong

That's how one doctor suture the rectal passage and the vagina plus the urethra and everything thats close to that area together after fibroid removal......it was a very messy post surgery issue...and they still had the wicked guts to tell the poor woman to pay for corrective surgery.

This is exactly what happened to by baby sister December 2024, like play like play, she drove home herself, parked her car to go for the supposed minor surgery, infact when leaving, our mother who was accompaning her called me and another sibling to pray, I was like what is all this drama for someone just going for minor surgery and who should be back the same day or next? Someone looking healthy, infact you will not know she had any discomfort. Omo, my sister never returned home, likely play like play she ended up in vaults and gardens cemetery!
If only we had knew, she should have flown abroad, infact all people asked was how could you allow her have surgery in Nigeria? That these days, the most they treat locally is maleria, infact for toothache you should fly abroad! Funny thing is that the money we spent here in naija would have treated her in UK, Turkey etc.
Someone said all the good doctors worth anything have moved abroad for greener pastures, it is the leftovers available, another said an ex governor of delta state built one of the best hospitals in the country, but for headache the man flies abroad! He said look at baba seyi, Akpabio small thing they have gone to France, even wike after drinking 40year old whiskey and falls, will take off to London to flush his belle..
Imagine having access to the best available healthcare in the country, having money to spend not being and issue, yet you can still die like chicken in Nigeria, what then will you say about those that have no resources?
Hmm, to loose a child, more so in such circumstances will be a desaster for chiamanda, I know what my mama has gone through till today, I can can only play almighty God consoles her and her family, may he grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

(Nb) I actually briefed lawyers to go after that facility in Victoria island, but my siblings said we should leave, it cannot bring her back, and the years of litigation will keep bringing back bad memories.

I don't care who requested the test. Even is it was a lung infection, an ordinary chest x-ray should have been the first line of action. Pneumonia. pneumothorax, plural effusion, are common findings on a plain film x-ray.
Stabilizing the patient should have been their uttermost priority . What was the white blood count? All these are questions that need answers.

That is not true. General hospital will not do what they did. It was all motivated by profit. The central line and MRI was very unnecessary. These are very expensive, specialized procedures that require careful close monitoring to avoid infection. Also, there are certain criteria that must be met for contrast to be administered during MRI. A child whose condition is already compromised might not meet those conditions.

They should request for the chart to see the vitals before the incident , and how they documented the changes in status during those procedures.

Why did they turn off the oxygen? Were they trying to save cost in lure of patient safety?
What did they even need an MRI for?
What kind for infection were they not able to rule out with a lab test.

I have experienced the Eurocare hospital first hand, they are there for the money not for your health.
That hospital bills you far more than best 5 star hotels in UAE. 2 days bill at that hospital for complicated indigestion , 6m plus down the drain. Post discharge follow up test is followed with another 1.8m, we argue it and insist to see the MD to review the bill, the front desk added Consultancy fee of 150k on it again for seeing the MD.
At the end of the day the test was inconclusive and imaging another billing of 1.2m for rescheduled test. Omo that was the end of the conversation, they never called back the patient as we insist not paying for a retest they failed to make conclusively. We have to abandon them for another hospital in sam VI, who did same test and full follow up procedure for way lower amount of 500k plus.
