How can you delegate your people for Indians? Pay them peanuts despite the unhealthy working condition in the refinery.

1. The report says the staff has been complaining about the salary for Years. Abeg, when dangote refinery start?!

2. The staff complained about taxes. Is it dangote that chops the taxes ni?

3. And the disparity between salaries of Nigerian engineers and expatriates? You are paid N500k/month and the white guys are paid $26k (N39million/month)? And you do the same job with the same standards?

Who here on nairaland would pay N39million for a job when he can get another equally competent person for N500k?

Now, imagine you are paying that difference, N38.5m, every month for the rest of your business life. Just because the person na oyinbo.

And this make sense to you guys? How?

Indians are gradually taking over the petrochemical sector in Nigeria and are kicking Nigerians out of the sector.. it started with sale of Eleme Petrochemicals to Indorama, since then, they have been taking miles. I won't be surprised if it is later revealed that Indians have high stake in the Dangote refinery.
The implication of the inaction of the Nigerian Government is that foreigners will be ones making critical decisions on Nigeria's key economic sector (what will never happen in India or China).
Nigerian companies that rely on raw materials sourced from petrochemicals will now be at the mercy of Indians before they can get locally sourced petrochemical raw materials in Nigeria. Just imagine the disgrace..

It's a pity we have people without knowledge at the helm of affairs.

Point is Dangote didn't want unionism in his refinery and he won. You are too slow to get it. If Dangote chooses to sack them tomorrow, PENGASSAN will not even be in any position to fight for them as they are no longer oil company workers.

I still don't believe....I have former colleagues that worked there, they have all left. Nobody I know worked in Dangote Refinery that spoke well of the place, unless THINGS HAVE CHANGED THERE OVERNIGHT, which I seriously doubt. Indians I know don't treat their employees well.

Seems like a way for both parties to save face, although it does favour dangote more. No staff in the refinery will now dare to join pengassan with the fear of redeployment, most likely to a less enviable environment and dangote can quietly lay off the concerned staff at a future date, if he wishes to do so, without much uproar.

Some of the workers would still be called back to the refinery. But they will NEVER join PENGASSAN/NUPENG again with this experience. Unless the worker is a fool.
