OK, it's good you have a niche in mind before you start, don't be a jack of all trade.

One thing to have in mind is that people are willing to pay for any service you can offer as far as they have a need for it. The issue is what are you good at, what is your passion?

Writers are making money, graphic artists are making money, Web developers are making money, the list is endless.

What is your passion and do you have the necessary skill? If no, quit NL for a week and learn it, and then come back here and ask how to start making money with your new skill.

Focus is important in order to achieve result.

I am not a core programmer though but I learnt HTML and CSS a long time ago, though I am not sobup to date with HTML 5 and CSS 3 strings now(nothing much though), that was the interval I started using CMSs. Very good with joomla, WordPress and a few other CMSs and server side SQL.

You can make money with wordpress, but WordPress is not enough. You need to understand where WordPress is standing on. There are clients u meet and your "learnedness" and wealth of knowledge is what will keep them. I was able to handle most likely of them cos I started with simple coding, so when I want to use CMSs, I don't use it like I just picked it anywhere, there is a difference.

There are many sides to this thing. What you will need to identify is what u love doing in these things. Programming? Designing? When u get the answer, identify the next area of programming u want. Web programming - there are many languages and of course opportunities. Mobile/app. programming - there are also many apps and huge opportunities too. Design? What type of design, web? Prints? Etc. Look for what you love and major on it. U can know a little bit of this and that, but u need to major on 2 areas "at most"....

She practically took us by the hand and trained us, most of us took it up and made huge money, and still trying sha. She made me know that good people still exists.
I had to start from the beginning of this thread cos I wanted to shift from freelancer.com to upwork.com. these Indians are destroying that place for themselves. Been into graphics design and website development. Been able to build a portfolio sha, but I guess I will have to do that now on up work. That place seems more promising. One thing I will like to drop is this - peeps should learn how to acquire skills, especially in areas they love. Package this skill and sale it. There are many people out there waiting for you. Be smart, be wise, research, learn, work hard, and smile.

Its not like I have made millions from freelancing but at least am on my way, even though I paused a while.

Yes boss. Fiverr is doing it for me (where buyers meet sellers). Have an account at Freelancer, I hardly have the time to bid and have never made a sale there, but I learned some other smart fellows are killing it there. Also experimenting in the graphics niche at Upwork.


Bros, freelancing is the best. I think binary and forex is for those who are "alreadymade'. People who can just trade $1000 and expect to make $300 - $500 profit. They can trade 5 times, win 3 times and lose 2times and be satisfied.

That stuff can be demoralising even the so-called gurus still lose. When I finally quit was when I wanted to opt for a paid monthly strategy, the so called Guru offered one month free service to test his strategy. It was just like taking a step forward and 2 backward.

Just as @FXbot, you guys need to learn the formulae of how these things work. I believe that is why this thread is up, but the truth is some people lack self motivation and are not self-starter and will never take action no matter what they read unless they are being pushed. If you're that type, get a mentor, but that comes with a price. That's the sad truth, very few people will give you the blueprint of their sweat and sleepless night for free. I didn't have a mentor, but I wish I had. But thank God that I have mentored 3 people to succeed for free (please, this is not an advert).

What people don't know is that you can get a clue about what someone is trying to sell to you and go do your research if you don't wanna pay for the info. You will get the same information.

Just like your normal naija ATM, When you insert your card it tells you welcome, Please check your balance first (I know it will deduct $1 but is wise this way than at the end it tells you insufficient fund) Then continue, click savings, amount to withdrawal, then your naira gets to you.

Some of us, the only inspiration we need is just to hear that someone has made money online, whether na $5 or $1000. For others, when they hear they still want you to show proof, and when you do, they say you're proud.

I wonder if someone who is willing to learn will actually have the time and energy to argue and try to prove other people wrong. When such resources should have been concentrated on learning, knowing how difficult a learning process can be. It's obvious it's the same people who will fail at what others have made so much money from and come here to wail.

I hardly comment on nairalander cos I am here to learn, that include getting info here and doing extensive research on my own. That is difficult without a mentor. I am making a few bucks writing online today because of the info I got on nairaland and had to study and research more after I failed the first time, until I started seeing results. And the reason I stumbled on this thread was because I was searching for more info.

To the masters in the house, please ignore the accusers and drop info that will benefit others. Afterall, "many are called, but few are chosen".

Those who want to learn should focus, and those who want to prove others wrong should keep wasting their time. It doesn't change the fact that Nigerians are doing freelance jobs online and making money. Infact, a lady "ladywriter" is doing so well in her freelancing career online and has also changed the lives of some other hardworking men and women.
