Is Education a right or a privilege?

Nairaland Interschool debate started like a dream and now we are here, third edition of this online intellectual dream,"no be seresere ma brother". All plaudits and adoration to Jah.
Yeah it's the third edition of Nairaland Interschool debate that was alpha some years back, the third edition and the first stage of this year edition.
In an era, when the internet is synonymous with scams and fraud, it gladden my heart to see the 'future leaders' coming together and forming a bond that exists beyond the e-world in order to improve and impact the society positively...
To the Judges and coordinators, I thank you for volunteering to work on this project considering your other offline schedules, I implore you to do your best, as we can't possibly satisfy everybody, just do as your conscience is dictates.
To the contestants, you are the focal point of this projects, educating and informative arguments is what we expects from you, don't see this as a 'do or die' affairs, play by the rule and at the end of the day, we will all be happy participating in this year's edition.
Once again I welcome you all to the first stage of the third edition of Nairaland Interschool debate.
This stage is just submission of essay. And the two schools with the highest score on this thread moves to the next stage, where the debate proper will begin. The team allocated to post their essay on this thread are TEAM1.
Ladies and gentlemen, the educational aficionados, the cerebral analysts and pundits, respected Nairaland intelligentsia and commentariat, observers and watchers, I present to TEAM 1 SCHOOLS.
TEAM 1 will be putting their adroit pen into use on the topic "Education is a right not a privilege.
Is education really a privilege? Lagos state University (LASU) and Federal Polytechnic Oko will be doing justice to that, let see how far they both can snip us to their stance.
Is education really a right? FUTMINNA and AAU will also in their own way wrapped with intellectualism be able to make us pitch out tent with the affirmation that Education is really a right and not a privilege...
FUTA in.... To join Futminna and AAU in proving to us which side is the best to lean on.
Judges that will critically, analytically, logically, semantically, grade the essay are...

luxanne: If 5 marks were given for each criteria, its safe to say that 5 marks be deducted from anyone found defaulting.
So please, compute the above defaulter's scores again and deduct 5 marks form each judges. NOTED, However the 5 marks for presentation is embedded with some other things like (opening, closing remarks etc) word count takes just 1mark out from presentation.. |

callertune: Callertune, Epaul were supposed to be here to participate representing DELSU. I, callertune had actually not followed the process stage by stage as I thought I would get a pm or email thinking that was the essence of dropping email addresses as we did earlier. Since DELSU and UNIPORT did not turn up as Team 2 members, the proposed conclusion to rule both teams out in favour of the two Lagos team who actually contested is been opposed by me as i don't think its the best option as seen in other contests. If as in football matches, country A was to play against B, both teams were for some unknown reasons absent, countries C and D played theirs with a winner and loser, it does not mean an automatic qualification into next round for teams C and D. I had channeled my prayer to NSID admin via email for possible consideration for a rematch for team DELSU and UNIPORT on same or different topic. I had also contacted Epaul, my teammate on the issue. When I get feedback from him, we will hopefully be expecting the best decision from the NSID admin. My sincere apologies to team DELSU. I pray we get the second chance. sent you a mail... |

I urge Fynestboi to therefore run a word count on all essays and any team found guilty by even a word over should be penalized.

FrancisTony: Adeaks only scored him low because some things were unnecessary & mumbled up.
I will never write an essay like I did in this first stage. Only my definitions were copied. Lol. Bad boy. |

pseudonomer: I don't have any intention of going for the debate this time around. And if even I want to maneuver things out of my tight schedules, it's not going to be definitely 12 or 3pm but why is it 12Noon now . Why change the time from the regularly 7PM? This was coz of the celebration. We are going back to the normal time after this stage. |
