Education › Obasanjo Laments Decay In Education System, Seeks Reforms by Fynestboi(mod): 7:22am On Jul 24, 2016 |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday lamented the extent of decay in Nigeria’s education system, calling for comprehensive reforms to effectively rescue the sector.
The former president also condemned the alarming rate of examination malpractices in the country, which he said, should be tackled to avoid a relapse of socio-economic order.
He expressed concerns at the disturbing level of decay in the country’s education system in a statement issued by the management of Good Shepherd Schools after its 18th valedictory service.
As indicated in the statement, Obasanjo was represented at the valedictory service by his Chief of Staff, Deacon Victor Durodola at the service held at Atan, an Ogun State community.
The former president explained that unless the entire system “is totally overhauled and comprehensively reformed, the country’s education sector will continue to decline and dwindle.”
He added that there “is need for total change in the system. We need to overhaul the education system. Unless we overhaul our systems, we will continue to have problem. The sector is just one subset of the system. Once we overhaul our entire system, every other system will fall in place.”
He also canvassed for change in the value system, lamenting that the country’s value system “has changed for the worse. Unless we come back to arrest our value system and bring it to a path of rectitude, then we cannot change the educational system for good. “But when we reorder society, our value system is reordered. When we reform all our weak institutions, everything will work well. The education system will also work well. It is because our system has crumbled that the education system is affected.
“It is a reflection of what the system has been all over the country. Once we are able to reform ourselves, make our institutions to be strong, then the education system will be strong,” he noted.
Obasanjo said examination malpractice was another form of corruption, which he said, “must be tackled without delay because it has eaten deep in the fabric of the education system.
“It is not only examination malpractices, look at corruption. Look at what is going on in the country now. Examination malpractice is a form of corruption. So, it deserves to be treated with some forms of iron hand and that is the only way we can take care of it; otherwise it will just continue like a wild fire. We need to arrest it fast,” Obasanjo said.
Director of Good Shepherd Schools, Dr. Adebayo Oyeyemi charged the graduating students to remain focused, work hard and strive to achieve their life’s dream of becoming great in the future as the school had instilled the gems to succeed in them. The school graduated 225 pupils and students from its primary, junior and senior secondary schools. http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/07/24/obasanjo-laments-decay-in-education-system-seeks-reforms-2/ |
Politics › Housewives Beg Buhari To Tackle Outrageous Price Of Kerosene by Fynestboi(op): 7:04am On Jul 24, 2016 |
Some housewives in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Saturday called on the Federal Government to intervene and force down the price of kerosene.
The housewives, who made the appeal in separate interviews with our correspondent noted that the current price of kerosene in the neighbourhood was between N200 and N240 per litre.
They expressed worry over the outrageous price of kerosene, a product used by indigent people to cook their meals and fuel their hurricane lamps in the night.
They moaned that kerosene had gone beyond the reach of the poor across the country, adding that this had caused untold hardship for the less-privileged Nigerians.
One of the housewives, Mrs Juliann Ezeugwu, particularly urged President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene and force independent petroleum marketers to sell kerosene at the control price of N83.00 per litre.
“It is unfortunate that in spite of official price of kerosene which is N83.00 per litre, kerosene now sells for between N200 and N240 per litre in filling stations, while in the ‘black market’, the price ranges between N260 and N280.
“It is worrisome that if one manages to buy some foodstuff for the family, getting kerosene to cook it becomes another obstacle,’’ she said.
Mrs Ngozi Amadi, another housewife, described the situation as very painful, saying that it had forced her to stop cooking fuel-consuming foods like beans and bread fruits.
“My children like bread fruits and beans but I now avoid cooking these foods because they consume a lot of kerosene.
“Another problem I have is that my landlord has warned his tenants to refrain from using firewood in his house.
“Government should help the poor people in this country and ensure that kerosene is sold at the government price of N83.00 before many people die of hunger,’’ she said.
On her part, Mrs Joy Ezema said that due to the increase in the price of kerosene, she had resorted to using charcoal to cook because she could not afford kerosene at the current price of N240 per litre.
“I now buy a bottle of kerosene to light our lamp at night and after our dinner, I put it off in order to preserve the kerosene,’’ she said.
A member of IPMAN in Nsukka, who pleaded anonymity, blamed the exorbitant price of kerosene on its high cost at fuel depots across the country.
“Nigerians should understand that the fault is not from marketers but from oil depots, as soon as we start buying kerosene at the normal price, we will consequently sell to our customers at the normal price,” he said. http://dailytimes.ng/housewives-beg-buhari-tackle-outrageous-price-kerosene/ |

ademipeju: Golor Iamkingzlee Fynestboi
i have just thiese three question for all the contestants anyone dat answered well gat my support
why do you deserve Mr. Nairaland
what makes you different from oda contestants
why are you contesting? It's easy to claim to deserve something as one can easily rain various adjectives from the clavis on himself. However, through our actions, the truth and the fact get revealed. And those we relate with are best positioned to assess us. Hence, I asked various nairalanders on why Fynestboi deserves the Crown and I got these:
Nairalander 1: You deserve the crown because you're one with tremendous intellect on how to bring the minds of Nairalanders together. This you did when you single handedly hosted and handled the Nairaland Debate Competition, which bring the mind of intelligent young undergraduates from different schools to compete, learn and get to know each other...
Nairalander 2: Fynestboi is very straightforward, a person who wears his heart on his sleeve and once he sets his heart on something, he doesn't back down until he achieves it. He deserves the crown for his commitment and focus on things that matter the most.
Nairalander 3: Fynestboi gives motivation to those who shy away from exploring the intelligence in them. Fynestboi is always ready to learn new things, like business strategies and how to make ends meet. He is a great guy with big dreams which I believe will have positive influence on people around him.
what makes you different from other contestants? To be objective, every individual is different. on this question, I will need to perform a check on all contestant in order for me to be able to detect that which makes me different from them, nevertheless that will take more time, hence I will rather conclude that I am different because I am me.
Why are you contesting?
I was mostly nominated for this contest and I had to take the nomination as I discovered once upon a time, there used to be a good rapport between the Moderators and members of the forum deposited mostly by contests, but these days, things have changed. And a need to return such wonderful platform we once had necessitated my acceptance of the nomination, and also to retrace the fact that moderators aren't gods but individuals selected to enforce rules and bring sanity to the platform. However, I won't neglect the fact that projects which can be financed with the grand prize is also an attraction. |

Considering your impacts and influence in the lives of Nairalanders, how much do you think your moniker is worth and why it's worth the amount you mentioned?
Assuming I don't know you at all, kindly convince me to vote for you
Mr. Nairaland contestants are often faced with so many challenges; kindly tell us how you have been tackling these challenges
If you finally emerge the winner, we know that it's your discretion to decide the proportion that will go to your campaign team, but to be frank and sincere, how much do you think should go into your own pocket? A Yoruba adage says, "owo to niye abuku kan" which literally in this context means, "whatever has a price can easily be rendered worthless". Naming an amount cannot commensurate what "Fynestboi" is worth..... Talking about my impact on various lives on nairaland, some dreams have been made realisable, goals achievable and success attainable through my indefatigable and selfless pursuit of bringing educational and informative messages to the doorstep of nairalanders.... Countless futures are worth more than namable amount..... Or do we have a mathematician that can permutate the worth? Lol
Assuming I don't know you at all, kindly convince me to vote for you.
Simple put why do you deserve my vote.
It's easy to claim to be something but through our actions, the truth and the fact is revealed. And those we relate with are best positioned to assess us. Hence, I asked various nairalanders on why Fynestboi deserves the Crown and I got these:

Lol.... It's not easy to participate in any contest as there are bound to be challenges which mostly hinge on propaganda, character assassination, threats and defamation as we have seen so far in this contest. One can only scale through these by having a formidable team who believe and have confidence in one's character, abilities and goals.
As a contestant who was/is a victim of several of these challenges, I have been able to cope with these through the help of God, my team (TEAMFYNESTBOI) and well meaning nairalanders who have shown incredible intellectual disposition.
A hefty chunk of the grand prize if won goes to the education section and my team would certainly have a reasonable piece of the prize although most of them would decline the offer as we all believe in altruism...... I might end up with none...
