Crime › Man Allegedly Slaughters Wife In Lagos by Fynestboi(op): 7:53am On May 29, 2016 |
One Jafar Osiugie has been arrested by the police in Lagos over the death of his wife Roselyn Osiugie. Roselyn who is 46 and a mother of five was found dead with her throat slit open in their apartment at No 8 Araromi Street in Oshodi area of Lagos. Information had it that Jafar who is 50 and hails from Edo state had serially assaulted his wife and on countless occasions accused her of infidelity despite the fact that Roselyn had been the bread winner of the family for over ten years. The Daily Times gathered that the corpse of Roselyn who sells frozen foods at Ijora market was discovered by her 16 year old son Richmond at about 4 am on Friday morning. According to Richmond, “ the night before the incident was an usual one for us. For the first time, we saw mum and dad eating together from same plate. They ate beans and garri. I did not really suspect anything as I felt it could be the joy of my younger sisters birthday that was been celebrated that day. We all went to bed happy. I , my aunt and three of my siblings laid in the sitting room while mum and dad slept in the room. “But it was quiet surprising when at about 3 am on Friday, my dad woke me to go and lay with my mum in the room. He opened the door and went outside, I felt he had gone to urinate; I also followed to do same. But when I got to the toilet I saw dad vomiting in the bathroom, he was throwing up some black susbatnce. Out of fear, I ran back inside, called out to my aunt and we rushed to the bathroom to help dad back into the house. “I rushed to the room to wake mum up so as to know how best to deal with what had happened to daddy but on flashing the torch to the bed where she was laying, I discovered her throat had been slit open and the whole bed was soaked with blood. I tried to shake her to know if she was still alive but she was gone. “I ran to the room to ask Dad what had happened to mum and he told me, some persons came into the house, killed my mother and also poisoned him. he later said I was responsible for my mother’s death. I was confused and did not know what to believe because I knew he was not in his right frame of mind while he was talking. Mummy was a good woman and never complained when it came to doing all she could to meet our needs. I cannot believe she is gone for life ” Accusing the deceased husband of murdering their daughter, the family of the deceased, said Jafar slaughtered their daughter, disposed the knife used to commit the Crime as well as cleaned the blood stains to erase any trace immediately he committed the crime and poisoned himself. Denying the allegations, the brother of the suspect (name with held) said his brother had told him earlier that his wife was always receiving calls from unknown persons who claimed she was owing them. He said, “Jafar told me that his wife was heavily indebted and that her debtors were in the habit of calling her at night and threatening to deal with her if she does not pay up. After I was informed of his wife’s death, I immediately rushed down to his place. Our inlaws were shouting that my brother had killed their daughter, so I went to my brother who as at that time was not himself. “I asked him what had happened and why he slit his wife’s throat open. He told me they were attacked by some men who claimed his wife was owing them and that the same people who murdered his wife also fed him with some poisonous substance which made him weak and sickly.” The suspect Jafar who was arrested and taken to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department began was acting insane sickly and unable to stand without support. The suspect, who kept shouting chemical, chemical, was later taken to Falomo General Hospital, Ikoyi for treatment, while investigation is ongoing. https://16717-presscdn-0-43.pagely.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/IMG-20160527-WA0002-766x670.jpghttp://dailytimes.ng/man-allegedly-slaughters-wife-lagos/ |
Politics › FG Verification Exercise Uncovers 43,000 Ghost Workers by Fynestboi(op): 7:41am On May 29, 2016 |
The Minister of Finance Mrs. Kemi Adeosun has revealed that the ongoing verification exercise by the Federal Government has in some MDAS (Ministries, Departments and Agencies) saved the nation N4.5 billion, while 43,000 ghost workers were uncovered.
The Minister stated this yesterday, after carrying out a similar exercise of staff under the payroll of the Nigerian Police Force, through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), organised by the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
“The figure keeps changing; everyday, we keep cleaning up the pay roll and this has been going on for a long time. But so far, they are about 43,000 and it keeps on increasing and we would continue until we remove all because every time we remove those who shouldn’t be there, it create rooms to employ those, who are ready to work and create money to spend on things the country needs.”
On the possible prosecution of ghost workers, Adeosun said, “we are in talks with the EFCC and they are going to start the prosecutions very soon. Some do not exist, but got into the payroll through a fraudulent way. Some people are collecting salaries from two or three places. In fact, some people died and no one told us about their demise, but through this exercise, such kind of people will be discovered. But when people are fraudulent, they should be prosecuted and if it is an error, maybe you resigned and you have written letters that the government should stop paying salaries into your account, but they have refused, it will be unfair to such person.”
Adeosun, however, assured that despite the challenges confronting the nation, the economy still remains strong and resilient, assuring that sooner than later, the present hardship would end.
“Nigeria is going through economic hardships because of declining oil prices but the fundamentals of the economy remains strong. What we have to do is to make sure this painful period is used to our advantage by removing the wasteful spending, stopping corruption so that when money is spent by government it is spent very effectively to the benefit of the people; that’s what is going to make this economy recover.” http://m.guardian.ng/news/fg-verification-exercise-uncovers-43000-ghost-workers/ |

Politics › EFCC Gets Petition Against Jonathan Over Arms Deal by Fynestboi(op): 6:24am On May 28, 2016 |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday formally received a petition asking the agency to probe ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on the alleged mismanagement of $2.1billion released to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for arms purchase. The petition is also requesting the EFCC to invite Jonathan for interrogation on why he made N400million public funds available to a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, for personal and private party use. It was the first petition the EFCC will formally receive demanding the investigation of Jonathan. According to findings, the May 24, 2016 petition came from a former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Ikenna Ejezie, through his counsel, Barrister Osuagwu Ugochukwu. Both President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami, were copied the petition. The petition reads: “We are solicitors to Hon. Ikenna Ejezie hereinafter called our client and with you as he has instructed. “Our client is requesting you to, in the public interest, invite ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for questioning and possible prosecution over his role in the misuse of $2.1billion through the Office of the National Security Adviser (Col. Sambo Dasuki rtd) and disbursement of N400million funds to Olisa Metuh for personal and private political party use. “Our client notes that Dasuki had stated severally whilst in your commission that the $2.1billion was authorized for disbursement by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for arms purchase, but later turned out to be for selfish purpose. Olisa Metuh also had admitted that former President Goodluck Jonathan transferred and/ or authorized release of N400million public funds to his account for political campaign of Jonathan rather than for public interest. “Our client informed us that the confession of Olisa Metuh is contained in his criminal statement with the EFCC. “Our client is thus shocked that in spite of the implication of ex-President Jonathan in the current prosecution of Metuh and Dasuki, the former President has not been invited for his statement to be taken nor has he been prosecuted by the EFCC as co-accused/ defendant. “Our client herewith requests that the ex-President be invited for questioning and to commence prosecution as he was the one who did authorize the disbursement of the $2.1billion and N400million public funds that were illegally abused and misappropriated by Dasuki and Metuh who are both standing trial in various courts in Abuja. “Our client demands that this request be responded to within seven days from the receipt of this letter and as quickly as possible.” The ex-President had on Monday told The Nation that he was not on exile and won’t run away from any problem. He said: “I am not on exile. I have no cause to go on exile. I was Vice President for two years and President for six years. I did everything I could and I served my country well”. A former Minister of National Planning, Prof. Suleiman Olanrewaju Abubakar, also quoted Jonathan as saying: “I am not on exile; I can never be on exile; I am going to come back to Nigeria. “I cannot run away from any problem; I am going to face whatever problem that exists in Nigeria.” When contacted, a top source at the EFCC said: “We have received a copy of the letter from the affected individual, and it will be treated on its merit. Normally, once anyone drops a letter or a petition, we subject it to our due procedure of whether it has any merit or not. “From what we have, what was sent to us was based on media reports. Those who brought the letter have not disclosed any fact yet. “So far, they have to come up with more evidence. We will certainly demand for concrete evidence against the ex-President from the aggrieved who wrote us. And it is strange that a petitioner or an individual will have to give the EFCC a deadline to do its work.” http://thenationonlineng.net/arms-scandal-efcc-gets-first-petition-jonathan/

Celebrities › Seyi Edun Denies Dating Niyi Johnson by Fynestboi(mod): 6:17am On May 28, 2016 |
A thread was on Frontpage on the 25th that there is a dating ish between Niyi Johnson and dele Edun https://www.nairaland.com/3125900/niyi-johnson-dating-seyi-edun#45946608Edun has outrightly denied ever having such. Toyin Aihmaku’s estranged hubby, Niyi Johnson, has been linked with so many babes since his marriage to the screen diva collapsed.
At the moment, Yoruba actress, Seyi Edun, is the latest babe linked to Niyi. But in an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the talented actress said she is not in a relationship with Niyi.
Even as their pictures where both of them hugging each other surfaced on the Internet, Seyi has dismissed the rumour saying she is in a relationship with another man but not Niyi.
She said, “My man understands me and the kind of job I do; I manage my relationship well. I cook for him. My boyfriend is not in the entertainment industry. There is no iota of truth in the rumour that I am dating Niyi Johnson. We used to be very close and we have done some jobs together. He featured in my last movie; we have a working relationship. There is no love affair between us.
“I don’t know where the rumour emanated from. We travelled together to Dubai but we were not alone. We were about six actors that embarked on that trip. Another member of the group travelled with us and Niyi was the director of the person’s movie while I directed another movie.
“We were just playing on set and we asked the question if a woman could propose to a man. I was planning to do a similar story around that topic, so we took a picture of him proposing to me to see people’s reaction and just to sample people’s opinion. That was what brought about the proposal picture. We took another picture together just to clear the air. Whenever we shoot in Lagos, we are always together because we are very close. There is no love affair between us. My man knows me so he does not feel bad when he reads such, besides he knows Niyi. We laugh together whenever he sees such stories and we have been in a relationship for a very long time. He is used to things like that. Most times I am always with him and we just laugh about it.”
Seyi shot into limelight with her debut movie, ‘Eja Nla’, and she has not been doing badly since then, though she has had one or two controversies that even made her more popular.
She was quoted to have said she prefers sex before marriage but Seyi told Saturday Beats that she was misquoted and would never advise anyone to engage in premarital sex.
“I was misquoted when a newspaper said that I advocate for premarital sex. What I said was that personally, there is nothing wrong with premarital sex but I am not saying that people should go about having premarital sex. I am not advising people, I said it was a personal thing. I said that personally, as an adult, you should be able to make your choices. I never encouraged it. I did not want people to see me as a lady that would always opt for sex before marriage, that is not who I am,” she said. http://www.punchng.com/toyin-aihmakus-ex-husband-not-man-seyi-edun/
