Chukwuka319: Average northerners are just victims. Govts use these so called religious leaders to hoodwink average men through religious sermons designed to stimulate emotional reactions. The preacher’s whole aim is to tell people not to protest against the government, which is why Ribadu is there. 2 Likes |

Tochitee: This is not about tribalism. This is about a factual case of a criminal history, specifically, heroin trafficking that competent US authorities have investigated. Just say you don't care about the criminal history of your president, it is of no issue or concern to you. Next we should have Evans the kidnapper or Clifford Orji the cannibal as president since Nigeria is full of mentally deranged people like you. |

BlazinGlory40: Conflation. Political calculus and strategy are one thing, governance and development policies are another. Two very different things. Like SLS has repeatedly said, the Nigerian state is designed for the purpose of rent extraction. Unless this design is refocused from a site for rent extraction to a developmental state, nothing will change. |

JoeNL22: NW is made up of 7 states with a quarter (largest) of Nigeria’s total voting population. NE is made up of 6 states with 13% of the voting population. Together (2 zones) they make up 37-38% of the voting power in the country. The rest of the 4 zones in the country make up 63% of the voting population. So yes the core north is important. The core north is essentially a third (1/3) of the country’s votes. Tinubu cannot win without the core north neither can Obi. |

boldtruthalways: Funny person. Where in the constitution does it say the office of the president must be passed like a ball between north and south. Rotation is not law, it is a simple strategy for a political party to capture power. As far as the law is concerned, every Nigerian is qualified to be president. When it was asked why Goodluck was campaigning in 2011 when it was the north’s turn (Yar’adua), what did you say? No such thing as zoning in the constitution. Well…that shortsighted position taken changed the Nigerian political landscape for good. 2 Likes 1 Share |

lawnreigh: I don’t think so…Atiku is ignoring Wike because he knows fully well that Wike can’t make anyone least of all Atiku win a presidential election in Nigeria. Highest Wike can do is affect Atiku’s votes in Rivers. And Atiku’s team has made their calculations and feel they don’t need Rivers to win the election. They only need 25% there which they will get. That’s just the fact. |

Ttalk: And what makes Obasanjo’s accusations gospel truth? By your logic, the same Obasanjo who supported Atiku’s presidential bid in 2019 is guilty of what he accused Atiku of. The fact is Obasanjo has not been able to prove any of the accusations he leveled against Atiku. It is even laughable for someone to accuse his subordinate of corruption when the subordinate didn’t even exercise executive powers. In other words, everything Atiku did in government was subject to Obasanjo’s approval. The whole thing is nothing but politics. Substantiate those accusations and we can have serious conversation. 1 Like 1 Share |

Abdu81: Correction; the effort is a Nigerian trying to succeed another Nigerian. Mind you, this Nigerian was duly elected candidate of his party which is made up of people from all over the country. Many from the south voted for this candidate at the primary. If you don’t have power rotation between north and south every 8 years in the constitution explicitly spelled out as the law of the land, then what you’re saying is just empty rhetoric of a pained man. So what do you want to happen now? No northerner should vote for a candidate of his choice in expression of his franchise? The northerner should and must only vote for a southern candidate on the basis of nothing but ethnic identity? Please stop reasoning like a hungry goat! |

onuman: Funny, there are 2 more states in the north than the south. Just 2! So what really is this proliferation you keep talking about? All over 2 states? The north has the bulk of the population of this country and corresponding landmass, so how do you expect its people to be underrepresented or disenfranchised? |
Politics / Re: Wike To Lamido: Only In Nigeria Person With Primary School Cert Can Be Minister by gadogado(m): 1:09am On Aug 28, 2022 |
onuman: 1. You’re reverting to a disproven theory. Which northern military dictators created states in the north in a lopsided manner Name them please. State creations were done in 1967, 1976, 1987, 1991 and 1996. I have showed you the balance of state creation between 1987 and 1996. I don’t know if obasanjo in 1976 created states that favored the north. 2. This issue of “our oil” is juvenile. Again, for emphasis, the oil by law belongs to the Federal Republic of Nigeria not states. If you want all the oil revenue, make a constitutional case for it! Simple. Atiku is the only candidate that has seriously and consistently been talking about restructuring of the country via devolution of powers and resources to subnational units. So each state can keep its own resources. Oil has not even been adding anything to govt coffers since the beginning of this year. In any case, it is a dying commodity. In the next quarter century, it’ll be a thing of the past. Agriculture will be Nigeria’s major export sector. 3. Again, educate yourself. Less than 13% of the north is arid. The north is made up mostly of savannah, specifically guinean savannah. This is why there is farming. Who farms in a desert or in the Sahara? You have obviously never even been to the north. Polygamy is a valid argument, a man with 4 wives and over 10 children is commonplace in the north. Obviously, that will impact the population size over time. 4. Lastly, the issue is what is in the law? Rotation? No…then put it in the law if you can. The constitution does not even recognize north and south, it recognizes 6 geopolitical zones, why not have a rotation between all 6 zones. North and south. |
Politics / Re: Wike To Lamido: Only In Nigeria Person With Primary School Cert Can Be Minister by gadogado(m): 11:58pm On Aug 27, 2022 |
onuman: You are completely off it. British colonialists decided for their own interests to make areas south of the niger ‘NORTH’ i.e. Kwara, Kogi and Benue. To be honest, each of these states 3 states including northern Edo (Auchi) are heavily historically influenced by the north. There is no lopsidedness created by northerners. In fact, the first ‘state creation’ was the midwest state (bendel) that was split from the western region. After this, state creation has generally been even across zones. The last state round of creation in the north was during Abacha i.e. NW Zamfara, NE Gombe, NC Nasarawa, SW Ekiti, SE Ebonyi and SS Bayelsa. IBB went a similar route with the creation of Abia, Akwa Ibom, Delta-Edo and Enugu states. Reciprocation involved Kebbi, Katsina, Jigawa, Adamawa-Taraba and Yobe. This shortchanging is in your mind. In any case, who says states like Osun and Ebonyi are viable? How many states in Nigeria are viable today? Goodluck Jonathan was the one that scuttled rotation. This is the fact. He was supposed to finish Yar’adua’s tenure and step down but due to his amazing shortsightedness, he not only ran in 2011 but in 2015 as well. His supporters said what at the time? “No such thing as zoning in the constitution”. You want to cry foul now? Its too late. The south jettisoned rotation for short term goals. You cannot bring it back now. In any case, rotation is not the law of the land and what is considered north today is two thirds of Nigeria’s land mass with 19 states while the south with barely a one third of the land mass has 17 tiny states. So really who has been shortchanged? If you remove Lagos, which attracts people from all over the country living there. The south also has a much smaller population than the north yet you feel power should be shared equally…on what basis? Landmass, raw population or religion? Or maybe ‘feelings’ if you want power rotation make a constitutional case for it, push for its addition in the constitution. |
Politics / Re: Wike To Lamido: Only In Nigeria Person With Primary School Cert Can Be Minister by gadogado(m): 10:40pm On Aug 27, 2022 |
onuman: 1. Is north-south presidential rotation stated in the Nigerian constitution (1999 as amended)? If not, your argument falls flat! Modern nations are governed by laws and process not ‘feelings’ and ‘considerations’ 2. The PDP convention picked Atiku, this convention allowed for delegates from all 36 states and the FCT to pick their party’s candidate. Delegates from the south voted for Atiku, why didn’t they have ‘feelings’ that power should return to the south? Because a political party exists to win elections and form a government. The PDP delegates put their best foot forward. 3. Federal character principle has nothing to do with power rotation. It simply implies that political appointments should be spread to accommodate every part of the country as opposed to concentrated in one part of the country. Not that the presidency, an elective office, should be bounced around between two regions or only 3 tribes. The fact that the top 4 offices in the land are shared between geopolitical zones is a convention not law. This is why it can be disregarded i.e. present VP and speaker are from the same region. 4. Lastly, do yourself a favor and go get a proper education. |
Politics / Re: Kassim Afegbua To Resign Over Atiku’s Choice Of Okowa As Running Mate by gadogado(m): 8:15am On Jun 17, 2022 |
Johnrake69: 1. This cannot be any further away from the truth. Firstly, the power shift position was nothing but politicking. Even Wike wanted to be Atiku’s running mate but lost out due to some considerations especially of his temperament. He has been offered petroleum ministry and he is happy with it. 2. Why not blame south east delegates that voted for Atiku? Or southern delegates that voted for him. Ultimately, parties want to win elections. That is why they exist and the PDP felt Atiku was their best candidate who has a number of factors going for him i.e. national appeal, winnability, recognition etc. 3. There were a series of negotiations that produced what is now the PDP ticket. Power rotation is not in any law of the land. If you feel so strongly about “power shift” campaign for it to be put in the constitution. That way, we know that we are backward people. When all is said and done, it is primitive for any country to base elections or offices on ethnicity. Nigeria will evolve out of this primordial considerations for power. 4. This north south power rotation is a strategy of a political party to win elections. It is not law. It is not even a convention. It is a mere political tactic. Even Atiku’s emergence as PDP flag bearer is a political tactic aimed at winning the northern votes to win the election. 5. You are too emotional, it is almost childish. Why should power rotate when it is not law. It is not a constitutional issue. It is a party issue. And Atiku won the primary with both northern and southern votes. |
Politics / Accountant-general Of The Federation Implicates Finance Minister by gadogado(m): 3:57pm On May 22, 2022 |
According to Kaduna based Liberty Radio/TV. The Recently arrested Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris has implicated the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed. It will be recalled that the Minister recently suspended the AGF pending the conclusion of the EFCC investigation. The AGF allegedly told interrogators that the Minister owned properties in Dubai, Abuja, Lagos, and Kaduna using her husband as a front. The AGF was accused of diverting 80 billion Naira. A petition was sent to EFCC by the uncle of a 16 year old girl the AGF secretly married. The AGF showered untold amounts of money on the 16 year old bride, giving her $100,000 in cash and a choice property in Abuja. 1 Like 1 Share

Crime / Pensioner, 69, Kills Childhood Bully At School Reunion’ by gadogado(m): 7:23am On Aug 29, 2019 |
A pensioner waited 50 years to get revenge on his school bully by allegedly shooting him dead during a reunion party. Thanapat Anakesri, 69, is wanted by police after fleeing the room when he opened fire at one of his former classmates. He had been invited to an event on Saturday afternoon in Ang Thong, central Thailand, to meet up with people he went to school with. But after the group sat down to enjoy wine, a buffet of Thai food and ice cream, the man confronted his former tormentor Suthat Kosayamat, 69. He accused Suthat of bullying him when they were both 16. Former navy officer Thanapat allegedly flew into a rage when Suthat, a tailor, said he could not remember there being a problem between the pair. Thanapat is accused of pulling out a handgun after demanding an apology from Suthat, who refused. He allegedly shot his former classmate before fleeing the room. Suthat was rushed to hospital but later pronounced dead by doctors. Tuean Klakang, 69, who organised the event, told police in Thailand that the alleged killer had complained in the past about the bullying but said he did not believe it was such a serious issue. Tuean told local media: ‘Thanapat would get drunk then often talk about how angry he was about being bullied by Suthat. ‘He never forgot about it. ‘But as these things happened such a long time ago, I would never have imagined that he would have killed his friend like this. We are all shocked by it.’ Suthat was given a traditional Buddhist funeral on Monday with devastated friends and relatives paying tribute to the ‘caring and kind’ man. Police are now searching for Thanapat, who they believe is living in a neighbouring province in Thailand. Police Captain Sombat Somboondee said officers found a 9mm cartridge and another dummy round at the scene. The Ang Thong Provincial Court has issued an arrest warrant for Thanapat on charges of murder. The police chief said: ‘Initially, we will charge him for murder and carrying a gun without a license. ‘We also have a lead that he is hiding in Singburi province so officers are searching the area. ‘From speaking to witnesses, the shooting appears to have happened after a personal dispute between the killer and the victim from a long time ago.’ https://metro.co.uk/2019/08/28/pensioner-69-shoots-childhood-bully-dead-school-reunion-10642350/ |

RichBoy247: This is 90% of Africa’s problem. Clinging onto stale, retrogressive and frankly useless aspects of a culture that ought to have evolved into something compatible with modernity. This elder worship that you so cherish does nothing but harm. South Korea had the same problem but with superiors in the work environment and they had to work hard to eliminate because it caused plane crashes. Research it. We’re talking about something as serious as the independence of a coequal branch of government, th functional effectiveness of an institution. You’re here talking about showing deference to an unelected party boss in the guise of ‘respect’. Africans need to read more and shed this uselessness called culture. |
