SEOUL - Groups of Russians have sailed to South Korea in an attempt to avoid being conscripted for the war in Ukraine, only for most of them to be refused entry at the border.

Korean Coast Guard records show a total of five boats carrying 23 people have reached the country since Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the “partial mobilization" of military reservists last month after suffering military and territorial losses in Ukraine.
Even South Korea, a friend of the West. They skipped Noth Korea (A russian Ally) grin grin grin

I try to avoid this particular thread by all means because the comments I see here are so childish.

see how kids here are belittling Russia because they have been too patient with Ukraine with the hope that they will negotiate. By the time Russia finally unveil war we will see how will cry last.

Even Russian citizens are getting angry with their leader for being too soft on the Ukrainians. Make baba vex then we go know why America dey respect Russia since time immemorial.

US fought in Afghanistan for 20 years, fought in Iraq, Vietnam, Syria and also supplying weapons to Saudi Arabia and Taiwan and their stockpile didn't run low, is it the 8 months war that would drain their stockpile to that point? Interestingly, Russia is also guilty of some of the things people accuse the US for. Russia is not some religious mecca.

The first picture has been debunked in twitter. They are likely Wagner mercinaries. The strap on the guy to the far right has October written on the strap in Russian language and not Ukrainian language.
Could be a Rusich battalion (Russian) soldier too.

In 2021, 600k people moved to Russia from other countries and in the same year 200k moved out of Russia.
To add more context, The 600k are majorly people from the countries below. These are majorly CIS countries with PPP lower than that of Russia. If the people from those countries had access to EU (without Visas), they would be heading west and not east.

There are pro-West in Russia. The Alex Navanni group. They believe in the limitless freedom the Westerners enjoy. They are clamouring for human rights (especially homosexuality) which the government can not give them. Russia is against LGBTQ. So most of them are leaving base on human right issues.

When Russia announce partial mobilisation, most of the pro-West fled the country immediately.
LGBTQ, gender change e.t.c are actually legal in Russia, even though they have a "gay propagander law" and no gay marriage law.

The Russians are orthodox Christians. There is a serious ties between the church and the government. So there is no room for LGBTQ in the country. There are no report about Russia fleeing the country before the war. It only started after the war broke out.

The Western media made us feel like Putin is the only one who make decisions. This is absolutely impossible. Russia is not a democratic state. It is socialist state, the government control almost everything.
Aside the Russians showing up at the US border seeking asylum before the war, I also remember that Jehovah Witness' were fleeing as well.

This is the reason. Russia is running out of precision missiles because they are very expensive to manufacture. They have just about 600 of those left except they are able to get from China or Iran. With no access to chipboards and ICs, their military industry complex is really suffering. Infact, Belarus is now being used as a mechanic yard for Russian tank repairs now.
The report from NATO in Sept. And a report yesterday from AP analysts.

Putin's comment came has no suprise.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said there is no need for more massive strikes on Ukraine, days after the heaviest bombardment of the country since the war began.

I'm guessing that means that they've basically run out of missiles that they're prepared to use up for now. meanwhile belgorod Russia is receiving it hot this evening from Ukraine.
Russia could have been able to produce more missiles, but the sanctions may be crippling that effort. NATO gave a statement of the inability of Russia to produce some sort of weapons back in Sept, but the Kremlin denied.

Russians know better. They next mobilization will not be announced as the mass desertation of Russia revealed the opinion of the people about that stupid war.
Heard they are forcefully taking immigrant worker to conscription offices. No more grandpas and convicts?
Or is nuclear threat not achieving the disired result.
I wonder how immigrants are faring after the invasion. There are 2 Nigerian guys here that were vocal and posts on nairaland about Russia. One even has a YouTube account. They have both gone silent and haven't posted on either Nairaland or Youtube since the invasion started. I find that very strange.
I hope they are safe wherever they are after all the news of conscription.

If the minimum wage in Russia is $200. Then most Russians are supposed to be homeless by now. Accomodation in Moscow alone is around $200 dollar or more in a month.

Unfortunately, there are no homeless people in Russia. Although, average wages in Russia is very low compare to the West. But their standard of living is almost the same. Average wages in Moscow and St Petersburg is around $800. But PMS, gas (well subsidised) and grain (and other agricultural products)) are extremely cheap compare to the West. In fact the Govt subsidised almost everything in Russia except accomodation in the major cities like Moscow , St Petersburg and Krasnodor.
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate those that don't post without insults. I have not replied the poster saying I have a slave mentality when he himself is slaving to Russia. Pot calling kettle black. grin

See graph of wages across Europe normalized to PPP below. We can learn alot of we put emotions aside. Afterall, there are no Russians or Ukrainians on this thread. Despite gas and maybe food being subsidized and cheaper in Russia, the map below shows one would still be way ahead if they move to those countries with higher income. This is the major reason why you will find lots of Eastern European (Polish, Romanians, Hungarians, Serbians and so on) moving to Places like UK, Germany, Belgium e.t.c for work. They save more and send money back home to family.

The Kremlin has responded with fury to the attack on the Crimean Bridge on Saturday, launching a devastating series of missile attacks on Ukrainian cities in which it has targeted civilian infrastructure in an attempt to terrorize the local population.

By now quite accustomed to the privations of war, Ukrainians have responded with hardened resolve to the attacks, however, with no sign that Moscow's brutality has affected the general mood and civilians attempting as much as possible to carry on with life as normal.

Putin's Oligarchs are 'fully' in charge of the economy. So much corruption and hooligans in the Russian government. The poor remain poor as usual, just like here in Africa.
This is what people that live in Russia or have lived in Russia are saying in Quora. It will be nice to read the perspective of non-russians or those that have never lived in Russia.

So 200 dollar minimum wage is small in comparison to which country?
Good question. Compared to other European countries.
Russia is resource rich. Why is the wealth not trickling down.

Can you tell us why?
