The reason the Japanese attacked the US is because they never believed the Soviets could defeat Germany.
They miscalculated.
The japs knew the US was weak.
Germany defeat by the Russians gave the Americans ample time to produce and deploy nuclear weapons against the japs.

Basic history. As at the time of the start of the war, France had one of the largest (if not the largest) army in Europe and they also thought the maginot line would resist the Blitzkrieg. Stalin also signed a non aggressive pact with Hitler. France fell in 6 weeks.

The nuclear stockpile is Russia's saving grace. If Ukraine had not given up it's nuclear weapons, Russia won't not even have invaded.
