CultureRe: Why Do Alot Of Africans, Nigerians Included, Look Down On Black Americans? by gangstaboo(op): 9:58pm On May 02, 2010
I don't think the feeling is mutual! Again I don't want to categorize either Africans or AA's.

I see ChinenyeN, and that makes sense. I just wish we could all love each other and appreciate both cultures lol grin grin
CultureRe: American Women That Marry Nigerian Men by gangstaboo(f): 11:05pm On May 01, 2010
I disagree with your friends! I'm an American women (black), I am not married to a Nigerian man but am dating one. I find him to be kind, caring, hard working, and sweet. If not a little TOO protective, but I think that's common in alot of men.

I love Nigerian men!!!
RomanceRe: Do Nigerians Always Marry Each Other? by gangstaboo(f): 10:57pm On May 01, 2010
I don't think so.

I'm not Nigerian, but am dating one and he is fine with me not being Nigerian (I'm African American)

I don't want to jinx the marriage part yet though lol. grin grin grin grin

CultureWhy Do Alot Of Africans, Nigerians Included, Look Down On Black Americans? by gangstaboo(op): 8:16am On Apr 29, 2010
huh huh -scratches head-
The question doesn't apply to all Nigerians or to all Africans of course, but from my own personal experience, this tends to be the case. I have ALWAYS wanted to ask this question though. I attend a University with alot of Nigerians and am friends with some but I have seen this attitude towards Blacks.

I asked someone from Nairaland this question before but that was just one opinion. I want to hear others opinions'.

I ask this question because from my experience Africans tend to look down on us Black Americans for a variety of reasons. For example, because we have been here for generations, they may believe we are not taking advantage of America's resources, or some think we are 'ghetto', 'unintelligent' and only appreciate rap, money, bling shyt' like that. Also, someone told me that when alot of Africans first come to America it is the black people who treat them the worse because of accents, or the way they dress, or the way they talk etc. Therefore, the Africans recipricate those feelings and dislike AA's after that.

Any thoughts?

@bawomolo

Uh those are just girls who entered the contest, definitely cannot be compared to the millions of black females in US.

I do see what you are saying though, and I think the Barbie interest is on the rise, but I don't think it's a huge phenomenon or anything.
CelebritiesRe: Anybody Like Nicki Minaj? by gangstaboo(op): 8:30am On Apr 22, 2010
@bawomolo

I don't think barbies are popping up everywhere, technically i'm still in my 'teens' at 19, so i can say from my experience, it may be becoming more popular to be a barbie, but i think most black females like myself are tired of the barbie shit''
CelebritiesRe: Anybody Like Nicki Minaj? by gangstaboo(op): 8:26am On Apr 22, 2010
lol, I like nicki but could never say she is better than lil kim. Lil kim been on her grind since the early nineties, nicki ass just came out lol.

The barbie shit' is annoying i like the old nicki when she first came out!! when no one knew who she was, she went hard then.

I was told it was fufu so that's what I called it, who am I to tell them it's not? How is someone who has never been exposed to it, has never seen it, has never tasted it supposed to know the intricacies of it or whether it's 'real' fufu,

And if *some* of you all didnt wanna read about me eating fufu, then why the fucck' did you click on the damnnn thread? Real talk, df outta hea
FoodRe: I Ate Fufu For The First Time! by gangstaboo(op): 9:18am On Apr 20, 2010
Sorry for taking up so many comments to reply but am just now reading what everyone commented.

One person asked something to the effect, "what is this supposed to teach us", well I don't know the answer to that but it could be the fact that a non-Nigerian is interested in learning more about Nigerian Foods and cultures, that's why I joined in the first place.  In my mind, it would make me happy if a person who is not familiar with my culture is making an effort to be more educated about it.  Maybe that's why they front-paged it, just my opinion of course.  I asked a friend today why alot of Nigerians, and more broadly Africans, look down  African Americans.  He replied that in his opinion, one major reason that alot Of Nigerians look unfavorably to African Americans is because we are often ignorant and very uninformed about you all's culture and customs.  And do not make an effoet to try to learn about it.  Therefore wouldn't it please you all that someone is making that effort?  I thought this board would be a great place to start to inform myself about Nigeria.  That is all.

(Btw I know i talk alot, but that's just me haha  wink   I'm out though, take care everyone)

@4llerbuntu TYYYYYY for your post, you had me laughing while reading it, and were very kind in it

@Markenny ty for explaining pamdi to me. Maybe that is what I had because it was white and sort of clumped together in balls and whatnot. And the smell was nice, so maybe it was modified, either way I like it.

DAYOKANU, thank you for defending me friend. I was a little surprised at some of the comments. I write just a little post about my first time with 'fufu' modified or not, and get some of these responses? wtf? I mean damn people have to throw shade on something like this tsk tsk. SMDH

anyway, thank you to everyone else for the congratulations, what's IYELEKUTA btw?
FoodRe: I Ate Fufu For The First Time! by gangstaboo(op): 8:32am On Apr 20, 2010
Uhm let me try to respond to some of the comments. I'm sensing a little hate too huh huh undecided

I'm a BLACK female from TEXAS, never had fufu before so I thought why not share my first experience.

No, I'm not a naija female in disguise, What would be the point of that lol?

Uhm there seems to be alot of grumbling at my topic making frontpage, I have no idea what that really means but why yall hating on it anyway?? I just posted an experience of mind on a NIGERIAN board, so I thought yall might be a lil interested.

Thx to everyone who made other suggestions of some other Nigerian foods for me to try out, I'll see if I can try them sometime.
