Politics / Okorocha Is A Failure - PDP by GARRIx7(m): 4:37am On Mar 04, 2013
Merger fall-out: You’re a failure, PDP tells Okorocha

March 4, 2013 | 12:50 am

News

By SONI DANIEL, Regional Editor, North

Apparently  angered by his romance with the newly-formed All Progressives’ Congress, APC, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, descended on the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, describing him as a failure and a disappointment to the people of the state.

PDP accused Okorocha of squandering the goodwill and support of the people by failing to deliver any tangible project nearly two years after he assumed office, regretting that they made a big mistake in entrusting the state to the governor.

PDP National South-East Vice Chairman, Col Austin Akobundu (rtd), in a statement, challenged Okorocha to point out any project he had started and completed since assumption office in 2011, accusing him of being clueless, unfocussed and unprepared to tackle the challenges of the state.

Akobundu said, “Under Okorocha’s watch, Imo has slipped into the failed states category. A state that was once celebrated for strides in education, peaceful co-existence and environmental renaissance has rapidly descended into a beehive for criminality and ecological disaster as a result of abandoned road projects by the Okorocha government.”

But Okorocha fired back at the PDP, calling them a bundle of ungrateful elements, claiming that he had put the party to shame by spreading monumental development projects to all parts of the state unlike what obtained when the last PDP governor held sway for eight years.

The governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Ebere Uzoukwa, warned that he was ready to use his membership of APC to flush out PDP from Imo State and the entire South-East so as to pave the way for the emancipation of the geo-political zone and its people, who had been denied development for about 15 years by PDP

Crime / Re: Man Arrested For Beheading His Father by GARRIx7(m): 3:04am On Mar 04, 2013
Ok, but wia ya source na??

loabb2: EBONYI State police command, at the weekend, arrested a middle-aged man, Okechukwu Ogbonna (30), for allegedly beheading his father for reasons still being investigated.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Sylvester Igbo, disclosed this in Abakaliki, the state capital, in an interactive forum with newsmen.
Igbo said the suspect, a farmer by profession, who hails from Isundiede in Izzzi Local Government Area of the state, was arrested, following a report received by the command on March 1, on the murder of his deceased father.
The PPRO said the suspect was said to have killed his father, Mr Ogbonna Okereke, a 60-year-old farmer, after he was reportedly told by a pastor that his late father was tampering with his destiny.
Igbo hinted that the suspect claimed that his father was not taking proper care of him, stating that the body of the deceased had been deposited in a nearby hospital for autopsy.
The police image maker said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations into the matter were completed.

Uba begs Fashola to re-open Ladipo Market

March 3, 2013 | 8:53 pm

News

The continued closure of Ladipo Market in Lagos State, has been described as a set-back to the livelihood of the traders and a drain on the state’s economy, as the Lagos State, Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has been urged to re-open the market to guarantee the survival of the traders and revenue by the state.

Speaking, weekend, the Senator representing Anambra South, Dr. Andy Uba, said: “The continued closure of   Ladipo Market, which is one of the biggest spare part markets in Africa is not only a drain on the country’s economy, but has adversely affected the traders and their families.

“I believe the government  had made its point and the traders have also learnt their lessons. In the best interest of economic development, Ladipo cannot, but be re-opened,” Uba  said.

bilms: @garri, i have done a bill board before and i know the price. Each board of that size cost between 600k to 1m depending on the quality. Between kwara to osogbo the osun state capital, i counted around 50 and lost count, this is after skiping so many. I believe within osogbo, there would be much more. So, assume all over osun, its 100.

While I have my reservations with regards to ur claim, I'll allow those who use that road to confirm the truthfulness or otherwise of ur claim..

With regards to the cost, if a Bill-Board cost between 600k to 1M(according to you) why did you assume the upper limit for the cost of the state and not the lower or where the Bill-boards you saw of international standard??

Meanwhile shouldn't you have assumed that since they were done in bulk, the cost would have been far less than the normal price??

I'm watching you in 3D.... coolcool

Yes I criticise both of them a lot, but do I hate them?? Not really.

The OP just said he saw 100 billboards while travelling (Unverified) and that each cost about 1 million (Unverified as well). How can a sensible person criticise based on statements that are very likely to be spurious??

When I open threads to criticise GEJ or Uduaghan I quote verifiable sources. I don't just dip my hand into my hairry azz to pull out numbers like the OP is‎ doing..

I wonder why he did that since there are clear rules which state in clear terms factors that warrant the closure of threads, the thread in question didn't contravene any of them so I'm at a loss as to the actual reason for the closure.

saintneo: Never knew people will defend wastefulness to the extreme.

I don't see a case of wastefulness here.

The OP lives in Ilorin and not in the State of Osun..

What I see here is‎ a Person who after a heavy meal of Amala and Gbegiri (washed down with Alomo) starts claiming that the State of Osun wastes Million on Bill-Boards. Where is‎ the proof?? The OP should tell us how many billboards he saw in the State of Osun and how much was spent on them, that's the only way to establish a case of wastefulness..

Until then, his post remains a baseless assertion from a tipsy over-fed fellow..

Is‎ there any State Govt in Nigeria that doesn't have Bill-Boards??

How many Places have you been to in The State of Osun and the Other 19 states you've visited??

How did you arrive at the conclusion that the State of Osun has the highest number of Bill-Boards??

Who told you that it costs close to a Million to erect a Billboard??

What's the budgetary allocation for Bill-Boards in the Budget of the State of Osun??

By your estimate how much do you think the State of Osun has spent on Bill-Boards??
