Minimum wage = ₦18,000
Price of a bag of cement = ₦1,450

Price of a bag of cement = ₦3,500
With one month minimum wage, you could buy 8 bags of cement.

2026
Minimum wage = ₦70,000
Price of a bag of cement = ₦15,000
With one month minimum wage, you can now only buy 4 bags of cement.

What does this mean?
In 2014, one month’s salary could buy 12 bags.
In 2026, you will need to work for 3 months to buy the same 12 bags that one month’s pay could buy comfortably in 2014.

So while the minimum wage has increased on paper, your real purchasing power has crashed by more than 60%.
