Ogbeni, do you ever see issues beyond APC vs PDP? The legislative arm of government is probably the worst and most worthless to Nigeria. Only few in the Senate, whether APC or PDP, actually take their responsibility to the people seriously. These irresponsible Senators, APC and PDP, are merely showing the world that they are aberrant. As far as the charges against Saraki are not bogus or fictitious then every law-abiding citizen, even if they believe he is innocent, should encourage him to face the accusations against him. Senators have a duty to Nigeria and Nigerians above any allegiance they owe a Senate president. They are not Saraki's relative and this follow-follow charade will amount to nothing in the end.

It would be helpful if Buhari had a productive, patriotic and responsible senate on his side, because that would move the nation forward quicker, but I think Mr.President should simply be ready , unless vital laws have to be passed, to ignore this current senate as much as possible to work with his Ministers, Governors and executive appointees. I can see this senate, under Saraki, being a very unproductive one and an impediment to Nigeria's progress. Buhari and the APC will really need to wield the big stick and show Saraki who is boss or live with legislative sabotage and lack of cooperation for the next four years.

Nigerian Senators Receive Text To Accompany Saraki To Corruption Trial

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK NOV 04, 2015

SaharaReporters has obtained a copy of a text message sent out to Nigerian Senators urging them to accompany embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki to his corruption trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja tomorrow (November 5 2015).

President of the Senate Bukola Saraki
Mr. Saraki and the leadership of the Senate have consistently shut down the Senate to enable senators to storm the venue of the CCT tribunal in a show of solidarity. In previous outings, more than 60 senators had showed up with Mr. Saraki at his hearings. Some civil rights activists have accused Mr. Saraki of using Nigerian taxpayers’ time and funds to attend to his personal corruption trial.

Yesterday, Mr. Saraki adjourned the sitting of the Senate until November 10, shortly after releasing the list of newly constituted committees of the Senate.

A copy of the text message to senators, signed by one “Arthur,” self-identified as “Director of Protocol to Saraki,” read:

Gdevenin Distinguishr. Wish to inform dt Buses are available 2moro mrnin to convey Senators wishing to accompany H/E d Senate President.
Departure is at 9 am frm d house @ 22 Yesderan Str. by IGP’s House Maitama. Regards. -Arthur (dir’ of Prot. S/P). +2348077770119

Or should we take it that this isn't worth contributing abouthuh Shouldn't all divide be about making Nigeria greater and better??
What do you want them to say? This is glaring evidence the PDP deliberately set out to loot and drain Nigeria with the injurious policies and practises it put in place that only benefited cabals and 'get rich quick' miscreants to the detriment of ordinary Nigerians. PDP supporters simply have no mouth to talk because they are now seeing validation of how the Party they clannishly supported conspired to ruin Nigeria. Buhari is not carrying out rocket science reforms. He is simply taking measures that will benefit ordinary Nigerians through a deliberate effort to take power and wealth away from powerful and destructive cabals to then make that power and wealth available to ordinary Nigerians.

The only people not supporting Buhari currently, over this pivotal move, would be those who want Nigeria to fail for their own selfish, clannish and ethnocentric reasons. They will not show face on this thread because it is obvious Buhari is doing the right thing for Nigeria. Since they hate Nigeria, they must remain silent and continue to hope Buhari fails with his bold and revolutionary moves no one before him has attempted to make since 1999.

Completely true. Many nations are trying their best to help us nail the cronies of GEJ , and recover Nigeria's wealth they have stashed away, because of the wicked and destructive level of looting the Nigerian state suffered at the hands of Ali Baba (GEJ) and his forty thieves (Allison-Madueke et al).

This is the part that got me thinking too.

So Oshiobaba didn't make up stories? shocked
Of course he did not and I said this back then when TAndroids laid into Osho baba. The fact is that uninformed Nigerians failed to acknowledge that Oshiomhole was the head of an official anti-graft task force convened to look at corruption in the oil sector and huge non-remittance of crude earnings by the NNPC . Of course Oshiomhole, as the head of the officially convened committee, would have the cooperation of the USA, UK et al. This means that he would be speaking with facts supplied to him from those nation officially. Yet we know some TANdroids will wail because their desire is not the to see the greatness of Nigeria but to see "ab0k1" fail thus validating their silly and destructive viewpoint that their beloved GEJ, who they worshipped clannishly, should have been allowed to continue in power by any means never mind what the rest of Nigeria wants.

Why do you think some accuse the Yorubas of "backstabbing the South" till today? They played the ethnic card and expected the Yorubas to blindly and clannishly back the very wicked, highly incompetent, ultra-callous and grossly corrupt GEJ simply because he is from the South. Yet this development, and many more like it to come, validate the decisions of the Yoruba to dump an evil man who was on course to destroy Nigeria with his own brand of wanton corrupt rule that is unmatched in Nigeria's history. Under GEJ some who were koboless yesterday became dollar billionaire and private jet owners overnight while ordinary Nigerians became more impoverished and desperate. It is for the fans of GEJ to inspect their own souls in view of what is being revealed daily about their hero and the moves Buhari is making to counter the monumental damage that has been done. Simply get behind this president if you genuinely love Nigeria or continue with your hateful pettiness. Either way, and whatever you choose to do, Nigeria must and will become developed.

http://thenationonlineng.net/buhari-and-the-new-anti-graft-battle/

The President’s searchlight has been on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) – for obvious reasons. Oil accounts for over 90 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue. Preliminary probes launched into the activities of the NNPC and other revenue-generating agencies, including the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS); Nigerian Customs Service (NCS); Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), among others, discovered the agencies as conduit pipes for public office holders.

The Excess Crude Account (ECA) – the savings for the rainy day – is also being examined.

At its maiden meeting, the National Economic Council (NEC), under the chairmanship of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, raised a committee of five to look into allegation of sharp practices in some money-generating agencies. Specifically, the NEC mandated the panel to investigate a shortfall of N3.5 trillion in remittances by the NNPC into the Federation Account since 2012.

Headed by Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, the panel’s other other members are ; governors Nasir El Rufai (Kaduna), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Ibrahim Dankwabo (Gombe) and Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos).
The NEC decided to set up the committee after a briefing by a director of Funds in the Office of the Accountant-General on the status and management of the Federation Account, which indicted NNPC for remitting only N4.3 trillion out of its earnings, estimated at N8.1 trillion in three years.

I really don't get the hatred and negativity that drives those folks. What is there to hate about this development?

The disappearance of fuel queues?
The notion Nigeria can save many billions of dollars that can be used to develop our moribund infrastructure, health sector et al?
the idea that corruption, wanton looting and lack of transparency in the oil sector can be defeated?
The obvious and feasible idea that our refineries may now work optimally since there is no longer a profitable reason for sabotaging them?
The international goodwill and assistance we will enjoy via making our oil sector transparent and standardized rather than leaving it, as the PDP preferred, a completely rogue and non-compliant sector the entire world laughed at? Imagine the biggest black nation on earth conducting its oil sector dealing through crooks like Femi Otedola and Ifeanyi Uba when other African nations far smaller than us do not even do that !!!

I could go on all day yet the obvious is very clear. I.e only very hateful elements will see no positive in this great development that is seeking to take power and wealth from wicked and evil cabals and return it to the people who are the rightful owners - even if they don't know it.

So that is all you can see and say about a major development, one of the most pivotal since our current democracy began in 1999, that will make Nigeria's oil wealth work for you, your family and other ordinary Nigerians instead of ending up in the bank account of a few connected to the government of the day? Can you not see this is not about oil per se, which will continue to flow anyway, but about how income Nigeria gains from oil and spending she makes on purchasing refined derivatives of crude is managed properly to the benefit of Nigeria and her ordinary citizens? This is not about oil but about saving upwards of 10-20 billion dollars yearly that can then be used to develop Nigeria !!!! You guys are simply incredible with how you deliberately remain blind to what is obvious and can simply never give credit where due.

I remember myself, EKT bear, Pukkah and other ACN supporters (later APC) coming out to praise GEJ on NL when he began the power deregulation exercise. Of course we had our doubts, which was eventually proven correct, but we still praised GEJ at the time the move was made because it was the right thing to do. Fuel Subsidy Rip-Offs: Wikileaks Reveals How NNPC Cost Nigeria Billions of Dollars

Following that, on April 6, Femi Otedola, President and CEO of Zenon Petroleum and Gas, essentially corroborated Finlayson's report, saying over $300 million has been overpaid by NNPC for fuel imports, and that many leading international traders are involved in the manipulation of shipments that the NNPC curiously failed to notice. “Discrepancies were found when comparing dates on the bills of lading with dates of landing in Lagos,” the document said.

According to the cable, “Pointing to examples, Otedola said that while a tanker loading fuel at a refinery in Bahrain usually takes four weeks to arrive in Lagos, comparisons between the bills of lading and dates of arrival of some shipments reflected only a four-day difference, and in other cases, if taken at face value, indicated the journey took nine months. Otedola said 73 shipments from refineries in the Persian Gulf, England, and Venezuela listed delivery times of only one day. NNPC is attempting to get compensation for the over-charge. Otedola went on that most of the fuel traders supplying Nigeria are implicated in over-charging NNPC, and showed a list of 17 companies that supplied fuel in the first quarter of 2004, several of which, he said, are significant players in international markets, such as Trafigura and Vitol. Otedola added that three companies clearly not involved in the scandal are British Petroleum, ChevronTexaco and Shell.”

The most stunning part of the cable is the reported recommendation of Otedola who felt that Nigeria would “save some four billion dollars a year in expenditures on imported fuel” if the NNPC simply stopped contracting with international fuel traders and, instead, negotiated purchases directly from refineries worldwide.

GEJ will be thoroughly disgraced and shown up for the enemy of Nigeria he was by the time PMB has fully swung into action. Nigeria truly dodged the bullet by voting that shockingly horrid and corrupt president out of office.

https://www.nairaland.com/2339465/buhari-not-use-oil-marketers

Gbawe:
Why are you guys surprised at this development? It is what any government that is not corrupt and is genuinely on the side of Nigerians would do. I have said it many times that leading Nigeria is not rocket science. You do not need 4 PHDs to lead Nigeria well. What is required, above everything else, is the fearless will and decency to shun the need for self-aggrandizement and do what is right for the people always and in every sector.

This development is not new and even Femi Otedola has given this advice in the past i.e Nigeria should engage directly with foreign refineries to beat fuel subsidy scams, petrol queues and the other deleterious effects of using fuel marketers i.e glorified and unneeded middlemen that PDP Presidents have all kept in place because this helps their individual drive to stuff their pockets and those of their cronies. Nairalanders themselves can see that this idea is not new and many of us have called for its adoption even if the PDP had remained too corrupt to acquiesce. Some of us know why we wanted Buhari passionately and our reasons will become clear to others too very soon.

https://www.nairaland.com/2339465/buhari-not-use-oil-marketers

I have said this here a million times. GEJ is corruption and corruption is GEJ. Is Otedola not in GEJ's economic team? Does he not have the ears of the President directly? How come, as many have pointed out here many times, GEJ has not taken Otedola's advice , shown below, if he is not the same corruption plaguing Nigeria?

The man's penchant for "don't give a damn" scams are really a disgrace to Nigeria. Nothing would come more naturally than for a President who is a solution provider to do as Otedola suggests below. I think even a child knows why GEJ is always loathe to take good advice and do what will save Nigeria money, promote accountability, defeat corruption, strengthen our institutions, diminish the enrichment of politicians and their cronies plus optimally boost income accruable to the Nation. Nauseating how this President openly abets corruption and the plundering of his own Nation in a brazen and wanton manner.

We have said it all before. GEJ and co destroyed Nigeria because of unconscionable greed and materialism. Let the usual tribalist and clannish element continue to praise GEJ, a worthless leader, and continue condemning PMB, a decent man not afraid to do what will develop Nigeria, because of the prejudice destroying their souls and reasoning. The question those people will have to confront sooner or later is whether they must put prejudice aside to now support a man doing what they told us can never be done to the glory and greatness of Nigeria.

https://www.nairaland.com/2339465/buhari-not-use-oil-marketers/1

Gbawe:
Simple. GEJ rejected doing the right things always, even when he knew precisely what to do, because this would block the avenues that enables him and his cronies to loot Nigeria. The beginning of the greatness of Nigeria is connected to our nation gaining an immaterialistic, ascetic and highly principled President who will work for Nigerians. One thing most Nigerians do not understand is that the inordinately powerful Nigerian Presidency, if any of us gained control of it today, could turn anyone into a callous and very corrupt man/woman if we are not highly principled and unshakably pro-people to begin with.

When you become President the first to approach you will be those who will show you how you can become richer than Bill Gates. Once you listen to these people, as PDP Presidents always do because of the patronage system the Party favours, then you have condemned Nigerians to underdevelopment and greater misery. It is not the case that GEJ "never thought of this". He was shown what must be done but rejected such because using marketers and middlemen opens up a monumental floodgate of scams against Nigerians and the common man that would see Jonathan and his minions become filthy rich. PDP President will thus always embrace the scammers because this gives them an opportunity to become very rich in return also. Yet Nigeria and Nigerians are the victim of this wickedness. The game changes when you then get a President, Buhari, not interested in self-enrichment and will only accept doing what will improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians. This is why some of us rejected GEJ to back Buhari passionately.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria To Sell, Buy Oil Directly, Cut Out Middlemen---washington POST by Gbawe:
This is a game-changing but expected development. Indeed this was the cornerstone recommendation of the Ribadu petroleum task force contained in the report the former EFCC boss handed over to GEJ only for our master looter former President to bin the report and begin hounding Ribadu.

From time immemorial, the entire world has stated that Nigeria must stop using middlemen for its oil sales/purchase as this singular policy robbed Nigeria of billions of dollars. In fact the policy is considered the most harmful to Nigeria with how it made many dollar billionaire yet kept ordinary Nigerians impoverished because the money meant to provide them with opportunities was being looted copiously by a few through the wicked and self-serving arrangement the evil PDP put in place. I remember stating it here that GEJ only notable achievement was the creation of a private jet empire for the most corrupt individuals in Nigeria from the oil industry alone!!!

One PDP president after the other sustained the policy because they were all crooks (OBJ and GEJ) or simply not resolute/strong enough to change the horrid status quo (Yar Adua). In PMB we now have an ascetic President, not interested in material wealth or mansions, who will not flinch or waver when it comes to making the major and fundamental changes that will rescue Nigeria and reposition her to achieve greatness as a nation. This is why I supported Buhari completely. I.e his disinterest in material wealth combined with his innate bravery and love of Nigerians that will see him 'go there' and do what must be done to better the lives of ordinary Nigerians no matter whose Ox is gored. This is a stupendous development and people will not understand what this means for Nigeria until the policy officially swings into place.

The poster you quoted is actually correct. Allocation to States have shrunk massively and I was one of the first here to announce months ago, even as it was not acknowledged formally, that Nigeria is in a "man-made" recession because the GEJ government (1) looted everything available to loot, (2) completely failed to diversify the Nigerian economy away from a dependence on crude oil and (3) put no "rainy day" buffers in place to help Nigeria confront this difficult period it is now in whereby oil per barrel price, when oil is the source of our main income, went from $110.00 to as low as $42.00 per barrel.

Be realistic. People are telling you the truth here. It is impossible to get water out of a stone. The money is simply not there to tackle infrastructural development currently because what is available must pay salaries and service recurrent expenditure which was very high in Nigeria anyway because of the PDP's system of governance that encouraged indolence and total reliance on government money everywhere. Amosun is not a lazy or insensitive Governor. Buhari is an old man, with limited time, who wants to leave a legacy of setting his beloved country on the path of progress . It is the critical sectors that will directly help him achieve success. Those in charge of those sectors, unlike what obtained under the PDP, will be under the greatest scrutiny and pressure. They MUST deliver because things are no longer business as usual.

Which posts are more juicier than petroleum and finance? Both of which if this list is true will be controlled by Igbos.
When I see the words "juicy portfolio " I always laugh because those words combined make me realise that the PDP has screwed Nigeria and bastardized the mentality of Nigerians. The words should be "important" or "critical"portfolio not juicy. Under Buhari, we are in a new age of performance and service delivery.

You can remain obsessed with putting an ethnic slant on things but I can confidently tell you that it is the Ministers in charge of critical portfolios , unlike what obtained under PDP, who will be under greatest pressure to deliver with no maneuver room to try any "juicy" or self - serving 'awon boyz' shenanigans like Allison-Madueke et al used to get away with. Every Minister is there to work for Nigeria under Buhari and not their ethnic group, religious affiliates or pals. Any Minister who does not understand this will be sacked quickly. Mark my word.

If Fashion gets power then he will be the next President after PMB.

@OP.

I think you should find better things to do with your time. No disrespect but your "prediction" is not worth addressing because it is anything but a prediction. Predictions come to pass. Nothing you say has come to pass and I make bold to say nothing you predicted will come to pass. Come and find me when Nigeria breaks up because Nigerians, in the majority, and following democratic tenets, refused to allow the ultra-corrupt and grossly incompetent GEJ to continue in power as they are entitled to do.

Please don't insult the APC. Even the most junior online staff get at least 15k. I don't know where BishopMagic gets his 5k figure from. Perhaps that is what PDP pays.

Uncle Gbawe, good evening (at least from this part of the world). I would like tonknow your take on the integration of south western states in terms of economy and political agenda drive. Is this achievable?
Yes is my unambiguous answer. The DAWN initiative, for example, is a well laid-out guidance template for the political and socio-economic integration of the SW. Once again, things will boil down to political will and leadership sincerity. With all the agitation of secession all over the place, even as I personally don't think Nigeria is breaking up any time soon, I think SW leaders of influence should stop prevaricating and get on with doing more for the region in terms of socio-economic development and integration. With 4 SW States now under banner of the ruling Party, I think progress will be made much quicker than before since political might and FG assistance/goodwill can now match the talk, plans and vision.

Can a united Yoruba group be formed or Afenifere resuscitated with every political party member/politician under it and serving as the common ground for all regardless of party leaning. A place where Yoruba agenda can be drawn up and brought into fruition regardless of what party gets power.
I personally believe that what would be effective today would be an articulate SW Political pressure group that will be well-organised and will go beyond tokenism and lip service to involve serious young Nigerians and give them a voice. It is something all leaders of influence at all level, be it political, cultural or business, be encouraged to join and be actively involved with. This group could expand to even handle fundraising for community development projects. Afenifere and others, to me, seems too much about lecturing others on what a few consider must be done. What is needed is a platform for brainstorming problems and coming up with solutions and even participating to deliver said solutions.

As it stands, Yoruba polticians stand for nothing that will benefit the West. Their party objectives seem to override the interest of their people.

Sir, can we bring the western region back or something close to it. Nigeria and her politics are holding us back and undoing our 1950s and 1960s achievements.
This is indeed the case for many politicians throughout Nigeria because politics, for a long time, attracted self-serving yet ultimately empty and incompetent men and women mainly concerned with lining their pockets. I think things are starting to improve vis-a-vis the calibre of men and women now getting involved in politics. The SW, IMO, will soon start to benefit from the involvement of these new generation of politicians who have a more rounded and robust world view that should help them excel and deliver better than their predecessors. Greater pressure must still come from the people though. This is key. Otherwise we will still grapple with leadership impunity that delivers mediocrity and underdevelopment.

@the bold, hmmmmn interesting!
The bold is true. Many politicians use NL. I was actually at the London home of a SW Governor who was browsing NL. I never say I am a member though because I sometimes write unflattering things about some of these guys grin grin grin I reserve the right to 'yab them' (Fela) anonymously cool cool

Many were actually glued to and getting 'updates' from NL during the election period. They know this forum has 'reach' and influence somewhat. something formal could evolve from that influence and reach if we can get Seun interested yet I doubt he would be.
