PoliticsBuhari To UN: ‘we Will Mobilize Nigerian Youths To Plant 25 Million Trees’ by GboltNG(op): 9:52pm On Sep 23, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has said as part of plans to enhance Nigeria’s carbon sink, the federal government will mobilize its youths to plant 25 million trees across the country.

Buhari said this while addressing world leaders at the United Nations Climate Action Summit tagged “A Race We Can Win. A Race We Must Win” on Monday.

According to his media aide, Femi Adesina, the president told attendees at the summit that his administration will embark on different initiatives aimed at reversing the negative effects of climate change in the country.

Adesina said Buhari shared the sentiment expressed by the UN Secretary-General that the world was on the verge of climate catastrophe, noting that “undeniably, Climate Change is a human-induced phenomenon.”

Buhari said, “It is in this regard that I wish to reiterate Nigeria’s commitment to its obligation under the Paris Agreement, the aspirations enshrined in our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and ensure a resilient future that mainstreams climate risks in our decision making

“I want to announce that the Government of Nigeria will develop a more robust sectorial action plan, and expand the scope of our Sovereign Green Bonds in line with our intended upward review of Nigeria’s NDC’s towards the inclusion of the water and waste sectors by 2020,” he said.

The president also said the country would issue a Green Bond for irrigation and construct multi-purpose dams for power, irrigation and water supply.

“We will strengthen solid and liquid waste management systems to attract more private sector investors.

“We will take concrete steps to harness climate innovative ideas by including youths in decision making processes as part of our over-all climate governance architecture.

“We will mobilize Nigerian youths towards planting 25 million trees to enhance Nigeria’s carbon sink,” he said.

Adesina said President Buhari disclosed that Nigeria had embarked on diversification of its energy sources from dependence on gas-powered system to hydro, solar, wind, biomass and nuclear sources.

The president said the country was progressively working to realize 30 percent energy efficiency and renewable energy mix by 2030, saying this is envisaged to lead to 179 million tons of carbon dioxide reduction per annum by 2030.

“In addition, our Administration intends to develop a shelter belt across 11 States of the Federation spanning a distance of 1,500 km and 15km across through the Great Green Wall initiative.

“Furthermore, the Federal Government has commenced the implementation of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Programme in Ogoniland, to recover the carbon sink potential of the mangrove ecosystem of the one thousand square kilometers (1,000 KM2) polluted site in the affected area.

“I should also inform the summit that our Government has introduced Climate Smart Agricultural Practices to unlock Seventy-Four (74) Million tons of carbon dioxide per annum, through relevant technologies, advocacy and best practices,” he added.

President Buhari also noted that the Lake Chad Basin, which used to be a region of productivity, food security and wealth for an estimated 40 million citizens living around the Chad Basin, had shrunk significantly from its original size due to Climate Change.

PoliticsSenator Sends SOS To President Buhari Over Police, PSC Crisis by GboltNG(op): 8:12pm On Sep 22, 2019
Senator Shehu Sani has sent out a message to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the rift between the police and the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Igbere TV recalls that the crisis after the police singlehandedly conducted the last recruitment exercise into the Force.

The PSC is accusing the police high command of massive fraud, saying that some unqualified names were smuggled into the final list.

It said that it will remove the names of candidates who did not participate in the recruitment process, but were added to the final list by the police.

The board explained that a genuine list would be released after the strange names on the list had been weeded out.

But the police high command has since denied the allegations, insisting that the list it earlier sent out will stand.

Reacting to the development in a tweet sighted on his Twitter handle, the former Kaduna Central senator (Sani) wrote;

“The President should urgently step forward to address the lingering conflict between the Nigerian Police and the Police service commission over the recruitment issues currently at hand.”

We have now obtained the charge sheet of the President Buhari led government against Omoyele Sowore, SaharaReporters publisher.

Igbere TV had earlier reported that the Department of State Service (DSS) are charging the activist over alleged treasonable felony.

He is also being charged for ‘insulting the president ’, ‘cyberstalking’ Buhari, ‘conspiracy to commit treason’, among other charges.

In the charge sheet obtained exclusively by us, dated Sept 19, the DSS accused Sowore of granting an interview which drew insults on the president of Nigeria.

Sowore was arrested on August 3, 2019 in Lagos for planning a series of protests against “bad governance” in Nigeria under the #RevolutionNow movement.

The DSS had earlier obtained a 45-day detention order against the former presidential candidate, which, however, elapses today.

PoliticsTribunal: Atiku Writes Open Letter To Nigerians by GboltNG(op): 1:52pm On Sep 20, 2019
Candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has broken his silence after recently losing his bid to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February 23 presidential election at the Election Petitions Tribunal, Igbere TV reports.

Atiku, in statement obtained by Igbere TV on Friday, confirmed that he and his party, the PDP, would be challenging the Tribunal verdict at the Supreme Court.

The former vice president explained that his decision to proceed to the Supreme Court is to fight for Nigeria’s democracy.

“It is for this, and other patriotic reasons, that I am pursuing this judicial route: To ensure that the votes of Nigerians count and are counted,” Atiku said in the statement posted on his verified Facebook page.

READ FULL STATEMENT BELLOW:

A Message of Gratitude to Nigerians For Your Support on This Necessary Journey.

Dearly beloved citizens of Nigeria,

I write to personally thank you for your support for our shared common goal and the solidarity I enjoyed from all walks of life and every strata of society, right from July 21, 2018, when I informed you, the good people of Nigeria, that I would contest the 2019 Presidential election, to Wednesday, September 11, 2019, when the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal rendered its verdict.

Nothing good comes easy, and hard as the task to rid Nigeria from the forces of fascism, and be an instrument for the full restoration of the rule of law and democracy in Nigeria is, your support makes the struggle worthwhile.

I owe so much to this great land of Nigeria that took me from the streets of Jada, where I sold firewood, to the heights I have attained, by God’s benevolence, in the civil service, in corporate Nigeria, and in public service.

If I do not play my part in making it possible for other orphaned children, indigent youths and the less privileged, to replicate and even surpass my path to significance, I would have failed my Maker. If I do not ensure that the ladder I climbed remains accessible to those at the bottom, middle and top tiers of society, I would not have fulfilled my purpose.

And only by ensuring that democracy is not just done, but seen to be done, can Nigeria and Nigerians have a sense that this our dear land is indeed a land where Unity, Faith, Peace and Progress reside.

It is for this, and other patriotic reasons, that I am pursuing this judicial route: To ensure that the votes of Nigerians count and are counted.

Yes, those who do not want this as Nigeria’s reality, will use every trick in the book to undermine, discourage, misinform and mislead, but with God’s help and the support of Nigerians, we will ensure that Nigeria makes a course correction away from tyranny and towards democracy.

We must return to being Africa’s bastion of democracy, where the rights to Freedom of Speech and Freedom after the Speech, are guaranteed. We must stand together to pursue this just cause all the way so that our judiciary is not afraid to do their jobs and have to be wary of blackmail, intimidation, and victimisation.

I note the immense outpouring of goodwill from ordinary Nigerians in every nook and cranny of Nigeria and from all regions, religions and relationships. Once again I thank you all for your support. I also thank the governors elected on the platform of my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, as well as the National Executive Committee, for their unanimous and unambiguous support for the judicial phase of this struggle, especially after it was announced that we would go on to appeal.

I urge all Nigerians to continue their support for this recourse to constitutional order via the courts. Even if there is little or nothing you can do to ensure that justice is done in Nigeria, just believe that it will happen. Let us never underestimate the effect of our belief in Nigeria.

Finally, I say to all concerned, that we will all die and give an account of our lives to our Creator.

Thank you and may God bless Nigeria.

Igbere TV reports that the fan had responded to Davido's tweet acknowledging Adekunle Gold for helping him by co-writing his next album.

The fan with the Twitter name @Kantoma told Davido to write his songs himself instead of seeking for help.

To that, another user sub-tweeted Davido's reply and said he likes the way Davido handled the issue, unlike the way he would have reacted by “raining curses” on him.

PoliticsVAT: PDP Rejects 2.2 Increment (read Statement) by GboltNG(op): 8:20pm On Sep 15, 2019
The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the increment of Value Added Tax (VAT) by the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that President Buhari, in the last FEC meeting held on Wednesday, approved a two per cent increase in VAT to move it from the current five to seven per cent.

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, who made the disclosure, however, said the implementation will not take effect until the approval by the National Assembly.

But reacting, the PDP in a statement obtained by Igbere TV on Sunday, said Nigerians cannot bear such burden given the current prevailing economic situation.

The party described the increment as anti-people, suppressive and a confirmation that the Presidency “is extremely exploitative, inconsiderate and absolutely insensitive to the sufferings which it has plunged Nigerians into in the last four years.”

Full Statement,

“The PDP insists that the decision to increase VAT on already impoverished citizens is in bad faith and cannot be justified under any guise. Indeed, only an administration that does not have the mandate of the people can seek to adopt such oppressive stance against its citizens.

“President Buhari ought to be aware that an increase in VAT will worsen our decrepit economy and put more pressure on families and business as it will result in increase in costs of goods and services that have direct bearing on the welfare of the people.

“Our party charges the Buhari Presidency not to further punish Nigerians by imposing harsh tax regime to make up for its crass incompetence and lack of capacity to effectively harness and manage our resources to create wealth for the benefit of the people.

“It is even more painful that the Buhari Presidency cannot give account of the huge resources at its disposal, including the taxes it has been collecting in the last four years, most of which are frittered to service the wasteful lifestyle of the cabal at the Presidency and APC chieftains.

“Instead of foisting more tax burden on Nigerians, the PDP charges President Buhari to account for and recover the over N14 trillion oil money established to have been stolen under his watch in the last four years.

“It is disheartening that at the time Nigerians ought to be enjoying the economic recovery and empowerment blueprint set out by Atiku Abubakar, which included slash in taxes and levies, they are rather faced with an unjustifiable and indefensible tax increase.

“The PDP therefore urges the National Assembly to protect Nigerians and save our nation from collapse by rejecting this injurious decision by the Buhari Presidency.”

The South African government are now begging Zimbabweans to forgive them over the recent xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in their country, Igbere TV reports.

This comes barely 24 hours after the country’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, was booed by a crowd of Zimbabwe mourners at the funeral service of Robert Mugabe over the attacks.

“I stand before you as a fellow African to express my regret and apologise for what has happened in our country,” Ramaphosa had said while apologizing for the development in his condolence speech at the Zimbabwe National Sports Stadium.

In a show of remorse for the attacks in their country and resultant reprisals, South Africans have staged a peace walk and asked for forgiveness from other African nations.

Photos and footage in circulation on social media, obtained by Igbere TV, show thousands of South Africans marching in parts of the country to call for an end to attacks on foreign nationals.

The march is coming after hundreds of foreign nationals – including Nigerians and Zimbabweans – were forced to leave the country over the recent xenophobic attacks.

Meanwhile, following the humiliation he suffered at the hands of Zimbabweans during Mugabe’s funeral on Satruday, Ramaphosa has now taken steps to address the negative image the citizens of other countries currently have about South Africa.

A statement published on the official website of South Africa’s presidency on Sunday said Ramaphosa has appointed a special envoy to heads of African governments to convey his regret concerning the widely condemned attacks.

The statement obtained by Igbere TV, read;

“A team of Special Envoys appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa have begun their assignment yesterday, 14 September 2019, and departed South Africa to deliver messages of solidarity to several Heads of State and Government across Africa,” the statement said.

“The team, comprising of Mr Jeff Radebe, Ambassador Kingsley Mmabolo and Dr. Khulu Mbatha, will visit Nigeria, Niger, Ghana, Senegal, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

“The Special Envoys will deliver a message from President Ramaphosa regarding the incidents of violence that recently erupted in some parts South Africa, which have manifested in attacks on foreign nationals and destruction of property.

“The Special Envoys are tasked with reassuring fellow African countries that South Africa is committed to the ideals of pan-African unity and solidarity. The Special Envoys will also reaffirm South Africa’s commitment to the rule of law.

“The Special Envoys will brief governments in the identified African countries about the steps that the South African government is taking to bring a stop to the attacks and to hold the perpetrators to account.”

A Twitter user, Katoma, had told Nigerian music star David Adeleke, alias Davido, to learn how to write his songs by himself instead of engaging the services of song writers, Igbere TV reports.

This was after Davido revealed that one of his favorite songs on his upcoming album was co-written by another artist, Adekunle Gold.

“One of my favorite songs on my upcoming album was Co written by @adekunleGOLD !!! Thanks for your touch on this ! God bless you brother #Agoodtime”, he wrote.

When told to learn how to write his songs by himself, Davido replied the Twitter user saying; “Maybe more artist should learn to tell the truth”, indirectly implying that most artist buy scripts too, but lie about it.

But another user snapped back at Davido, saying; “Ode that was a simple talk but instead you turn am to hate probably why they don't like you.”

Replying the user, yet again in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV, Davido said; “Who is they ?? Ur on ur own o”.
