Softee, truthfully speaking, the same can be said about Christianity. It doesn't have the most pristine of histories, either. And, I'm not negating what happened 1400 years ago. But, my point is that we can't change the past, but we can do something about child rape right now, because it's happening right now.

However, sadly, this is an Islam-bashing thread and Aisha was used as emotional bait. I am disappointed and his will be my last post in this thread. I'm going to follow that link and read those chapter excerpts as soon as I make this post. Looks like it's going to be a really interesting read.

In my experience, Africans never made attempts to socialize with Black Americans or get to know us -- unless it was an African man showing interest in a Black American woman. I lived it. While I was married to an African man and living among his family, away from my own, in a place I knew absolutely nobody, this was my reality.

One thing I noticed, also, is that it seems like Africans will cut the Black American women some slack, but not the men. It's really weird,

@ Busta -- The only way this article would maybe make any sense is if the term "big girls" means something different than what I think it means. Where I'm from, "big girls" is a slang term for larger-sized women.

And completely off topic, LOL, I really, really (really) don't like it when grown WOMEN are referred to as "girls". Grrr.

And your reading comprehension skills are weak if you think my post tried to justify what Muhammad did when I clearly stated that I was just passing on what I read. The Black Americans who dislike Africans do so as a reaction to disdain which many Africans show us FIRST.

The article made no sense. It rambled all over the place like a tumbleweed. Plus, the author NEVER answered or even ADDRESSED the question she asked at the beginning of the article -- which was supposed to be the thesis/premise of the whole thing. I'm mad I read it, but since I did, I had to leave my comment to at least make my time worthwhile, LOL.

My badd, everybody. I could have sworn that in my readings (somewhere) it said that she was a WOMAN when he had sex with her. If that's not the case, and apparently it's not -- because the documents posted on the thread were of her own words -- then that's inexcusable.

However, to be fair, there are many ethnic groups around the world that marry off 9 year old girls and the girls are mothers by the time they're 11 years old. And, that's going on NOW. What happened with Muhammad was over 1400 years ago. If we are going to be outraged by stuff like this, let's be outraged by the stuff going on NOW, and maybe a difference will be made.

Slurp, I like beans! Lima beans, butter beans, black-eyed peas, kidney beans, pinto beans, even green beans and peas, it pretty much doesn't matter what kind of bean it is. I like 'em.

Beans are a staple food down here in the deep South too, for the "less affluent". At least it was when I was growing up back in the day. Cheap, don't rot, dry storage and a little cooks up to be a lot. It might be a "perfect food", hehe.

I'm not a Muslim and I'm not a radical Christian either. However, out of my own curiosity regarding the world's different religions, I have learned a lot about different ones. The short and simple answer about Muhammad marrying a 6 year old is this:

Yes, Muhammad married the girl when she was 6 years old. However, that was a POLITICAL move.

HE DID NOT have an adult relationship with her, UNTIL she was OF AGE.

Hi from Georgia! My name is Roz and I came across Nairaland while looking for a POSITIVE online community experience. When I first found this board, I posted a question under another name to see what kind of responses I would get (friendly vs. hostile). I was very pleased with the result, so now I'm "coming out" and jumping in. I hope that doesn't make anybody angry.

A little background:
I'm 35 years old and have no children. I'm divorced. My former husband is from Guinea. No dramatic tale to tell, we simply grew apart after 7 years of marriage and ended up having NOTHING in common in the end. So, we parted friends. I'm currently pursuing a M.S. degree in Applied Computer Science and I'm a huge Linux and open-source software fan. I think Linux and open-source software is going to be the way to close the Digital Divide, especially in developing countries, and I want to be a part of it.
