Remember the black sarcophagus exhumed by archaeologists last week in Egypt?

Well, some mad people want to drink the liquid found inside it and they are serious.

A mysterious black sarcophagus was pried open in Alexandria, Egypt on Thursday amid intense social media debate over whether opening the vessel would unleash an ancient curse on the Earth.

While the jury is still out on any potential plagues, there has been at least one observable — and rather strange — side effect from the sarcophagus' opening. Namely, a petition signed by nearly 20,000 people who wish to drink the mysterious liquid discovered inside the tomb.

Photos of the gruesome scene found inside the sarcophagus spread quickly online after archaeologists pried open the 30-ton sarcophagus, revealing three decomposed bodies floating in an unidentified red juice. Netizens around the world quickly began speculating about what the substance could be, with many jumping to the outlandish conclusion that the liquid might possess magical healing powers.

The wild theory went so viral it spawned a change.org petition entitled "let the people drink the red liquid from the dark sarcophagus."

"We need to drink the red liquid from the cursed dark sarcophagus in the form of some sort of carbonated energy drink so we can assume its powers and finally die," petition founder Innes McKendrick wrote on the site.

At the time of publication, the petition had accrued 19,013 signatures out of its 25,000 goal.

In light of the petition's growing support, the Egyptian Antiquities Minister spoke out to assure the public that the liquid is not "juice for mummies that contains an elixir of life" — it's just sewage water that managed to leak into the ancient tomb through a small crack in the vessel's side.

The three mummies will reportedly be transported to the Alexandria National Museum, while the coffin will be taken to a military museum. The fate of the sarcophajuice remains to be determined.

A celebrity Brazilian plastic surgeon known as Dr Bumbum has been arrested after four days on the run following the death of one of his patients.

Police say Dr Denis Furtado was detained in Rio de Janeiro thanks to an anonymous tip.

His patient Lilian Calixto died following injections he gave her to enlarge her buttocks.

Dr Furtado faces murder charges. His mother was also arrested and is accused of being an accomplice.

Investigators say Dr Furtado carried out the procedure on Ms Calixto, a 46-year-old bank manager and mother-of-two, at his home in Rio de Janeiro - but she fell ill during the procedure.

Dr Furtado took her to a hospital where her condition worsened and she died some hours later, police said. Local media reported that she arrived at the hospital suffering from an abnormally fast heart rate.

Dr Furtado then disappeared. On Wednesday his lawyer said he was innocent and had not turned himself in to police because he was panicking.

Rio police posted a photo of him alongside his mother, Maria de Fátima Barros Furtado, after their arrest.

His girlfriend, Renata Fernandes, had already been arrested on suspicion of taking part in the procedure.

In a video posted on social media after his arrest on Thursday, Dr Furtado said Ms Calixto's death had been a "fatal accident" and said he had performed 9,000 such procedures and that they were legal in Brazil.

The 45-year-old has appeared on Brazilian television and had nearly 650,000 followers on his Instagram account.

Brazilian media said that his registration from the Federal Medical Council showed that he was licensed as a doctor in Brasília and the nearby state of Goiás, but he was not recorded as a specialist.

The Brazilian Plastic Surgery Society said he was not a trained plastic surgeon. In a statement on its website, it said procedures should never be carried out in private homes, and it warned against using PMMA - a synthetic resin also known as acrylic glass filler - for any aesthetic purposes.

In a Facebook post earlier this month, Dr Furtado had called PMMA "a minimally invasive procedure, offering immediate and definitive results, using local anaesthesia and therefore painless, without much need of rest after the procedure". It is believed that Ms Calixto had booked in for this treatment.
