arixona:Nice cage designs but Please I will appreciate if do not derail my thread by posting your adverts on this diary. I know it’s a public forum but I see you already created another thread for your cage sales somewhere else on this pet section . Kindly focus on growing that and not on this diary. Kind regards |

Ooh… just realised how tall maya is standing on twos.. I mean, I am just over 6ft2 tall. Now fingers crossed while we wait for the first sign of “belle”… . |
Today, Tuesday 25th May, after 4 different inseminations during the past week, I finally left Lagos for Ibadan to go pick maya up. Just look at the picture and see how happy she was to see me. The hug made me realise why they are called man’s best friend.

wizi44:Yea you may be right. I guess she must have started the heat period some days before I discovered |
Kolaboluv7:Don’t worry , soon as I get updates from Ibadan I will share |
wizi44:Hi, When a dog comes on heat, it doesn’t mean she has started ovulating. ovulation may occur either early or late during the heat cycle. Hope you get it now ![]() |
And there it goes in…. First insemmination complete. Two more will be done before the week ends, then I can go to Ibadan to pick her up. Miss her a lot
|
It was measured and prepared to be released into Maya’s vulva
|
After this, work began . The male dog ejaculated his semens which was collected in an air tight receiver …
|
The blood sample was sent from Ibadan to Lagos for tests. (I was told no lab in Ibadan does that yet). The results came in after some hours
|
The process started today as planned. Her blood sample was taken for progesterone test so as to determine her ovulation period for the artificial insemination
|
OfficialGaGa:Thank you!! |
More pictures of the male. I love the head structure. Hopeful for a successful process.. good night
|
So tomorrow..the process starts . Ohh the mating will be done through artificial insemination (Artificial insemination (AI) is the technique used to impregnate a female dog without that dog having sex. First semen is collected from a male dog and then it is placed into a female dog’s reproductive tract while she is fertile. This, hopefully, will result in the sperm penetrating the female's egg, and producing an embryo.) Stay tuned for more info as the process begins |
Luckily he said he was going to go find another breeder who isn’t really afraid of dog attacks lol to help out. The breeder arrived around 7pm and a live video call was made for me to see how they were going about taking her out. After a few minutes of barking and aggression, the gate was opened and madam just strolled out sniffing the whole compound. The guy picked up the leash on her collar and voila !!!!!… mission accompanied |
I got back to Lagos around 6pm Saturday only to get a call around 8 that maya has been so aggressive no one could go near her cage to even open and feed her for the night . The breeder expressed a bit of concern so I asked him to leave her till this morning (Sunday) for her to clam down, thinking it must have been the journey stress and strange face/environment. When he called this morning it was the same story. No food yet, she is potty trained so she hasn’t peed or poo”d for close to 24hours . We continued exchanging updates till like 6pm this evening . Maya still locked up without food since Saturday and the test couldn’t be done (he sent a video of how aggressive she was in the cage and I knew how dangerous that is) … I was already thinking of taking a day off work on Monday to go to Ibadan |
At the Kennel, all contracts were signed. Maya is to stay with him for 1week as I had to return to Lagos that day. A quantitative progesterone blood test was to be done today (Sunday) to determine the most accurate method for timing breedings, so she was locked in the cage while I left for Lagos immediately but here is where the drama started. |
We set out for Ibadan around 11am and it was a real hassle through out the journey.. I couldn’t get a space bus that would have been comfortable for both of us through the journey so we had to manage the back seat of the car. I also had to contend with my driver who couldn’t concentrate on the road because of the beast behind him and maya who was struggling to lay comfortably on the seat/my laps. Drenched in all her saliva and fur plus blood spotting on the seat, we safely got to Ibadan around 2pm
|
Update***** Maya finally came on her second heat this week. Noticed her swollen vulva yesterday (Saturday the 15th may ) and immediately contacted the kennel in Ibadan to give him update to make arrangement to receive maya that day. My schedule was a bit tight for the day but I knew I just had to take her immediately from Lagos to Ibadan that Saturday morning because works resumes on Monday… |
The head is everything
|
Here is Bearboy George. This male is Owned by DG kennel, Ibadan who is Such a professional with years of experience in the breeding game. This guy has one of the best Caucasians shepherd I have ever seen. From the beautiful coat colors which in a way matches Maya’s, the superb head form and proven record, it’s just the perfect combo I look forward to. Hopefully we are able to make things happen soon. Fingers crossed.
|
Update, Maya will be coming on heat shortly and it’s been a bit hectic finding that perfect male for her. Luckily I was referred to a kennel in Ibadan and from what I see.. the male is super. The chosen male will be unveiled soon. Watch this space . I really Can’t wait
|
That feeling when you just had a partial grooming . Happy weekend
|
Thankfully, these past 2weeks, she’s back to her normal self ..Maya has been eating like no mans business lol... she finished huge bowls of food 3 times daily. The dyne supplement I bought is now so irresistible. She’s much more lively and playful now and her weight is much better. Really happy for her now as she even walks into her cage now to chill in her bedroom( lol). |
At this point I gave up ... after all checks and there was no issue with her health , I felt it was more of an emotional thing lol...I had just built her a concrete cage and she spent more time locked up than the freedom she used to enjoy. So it must have been the change that affected her (I guess). So I decided to leave her be to adjust. She was fast losing weight tho. |
I got worried. She was full and refused food or just took a little when she was super hungry. Went to the vet who gave done drugs to boost her appetite. Even had to buy DYNE ( picture attached )... this cost 10,000 naira. I was told to pour 1 table sooon in her meal that the aroma will make it irresistible but Maya “fall my hand”. She still didn’t eat the meals mixed with dyne

SeyiJayden:I think her first heat came around 11months old. As for her feeding routine, I used to feed her dry food ( royal canin) twice a day but she doesn’t really eat it. I switched to petcool some months back. She managed to eating a small portion just once a day and I ended up serving her percool(15kg) for over 2months. She completely lost appetite and hardly ate any food( can, home made etc). |
SeyiJayden:Sure, you can ask |
Also, this past 3 months, her feeding ration dropped.. initially, I thought she was sick so I had to go to the vet but even after that it seem Maya is okay with being fed just once a day.. any other thing (dry food) after that, she simply ignore and wastes excepts it’s something enticing or roasted... tried getting goat meats/bones from a local seller and cook for her but she hardly finishes it (maybe she wants it roasted too lol)..so I had to cut down on her feeding to a bowl of dry food before I leave for work and some treats in the evening when I get back and she’s fine with that.. plays actively and I think her weight is still okay ..
|
I really wish I can create enough time to update this thread at least weekly .. anyways , Maya is a year and 2months old now and should be coming on her second heat soon.. I am currently scouting for the best male out there for her. (Any recommendations?) so you guys should be expecting some mating/puppies news soon.
