Religion / Pastor Bakare Mocks Bishop Oyedepo For ‘Making Noise About His Private Jet’ by GenesisForums: 3:18pm On Aug 28, 2021
The founder of Citadel Global Community Church (formerly Latter Rain Assembly), Tunde Bakare, has spoken about his relationship with David Oyedepo, the founder of Winners’ Chapel.

Bakare during a TVC programme with Sam Omatseye tagged ‘The Big Talk’, said he and Oyedepo were on a plane one time and another brother was coming over to greet him, but on seeing them together, he froze.

“There is a difference between issues and persons. We can defend the gospel but those who do not and destroy it will die before their time. I have nothing personal against any man of God but I will always defend the truth that I know and I will always make it plain,” he said.

When asked whether the incident was before Oyedepo acquired his private jet, Bakare said he doesn’t know why the clergyman made so much noise about his private jet.

“By the way, when he makes noise about his private jet of a thing, do you know that I once acquired a 1707 with the logo of our church on it? Are you aware of that? But we use it for business. I don’t buy a plane to be spending money on it; that I can jump quickly on another and pay little money to where I’m going.

“We can afford it; we are not envious of them at all,” he added.

Speaking on his differences with Oyedepo, Bakare said the gospel and truth is one but when someone “begins to twist the truth to make it funny,” he will speak out.

He also referenced an incident where he tore a book written by Oyedepo in the open and when he was confronted, he said the book was full of errors.

“How can someone say the anointing oil is not a symbol of the Holy Spirit? It is the release of God in the bottle. If it is told to few people so, it is okay. If anointing oil is the Holy Spirit, then Jesus is a lamb walking on four legs. They are symbols, and symbols are not as important,” he said.

Politics / Buhari Govt Treating Bandits Worse Than IPOB – Presidency Insists by GenesisForums: 3:08pm On Aug 28, 2021
The Presidency on Saturday insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari has treated bandits worst than the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, said the president has done worst to AK-47 wielding bandits than IPOB.

He explained that the current government only proscribed IPOB, but gave a shoot-on-sight order against bandits.

Shehu, who spoke on BBC News Pidgin, was reacting to a question on why the Buhari’s administration has not outlawed bandits just as it proscribed IPOB.

He stressed that the military is attacking bandits from the air and land.

According to Shehu: “What the Buhari administration has done to the arms-wielding bandits is worse than being declared as terrorists. There is a subsisting order by the President that any arms-wielding, AK-47 bandits should be shot on sight.

“Yes, IPOB has been proscribed by law of the land; there is no shoot-on-sight order.

“The Nigerian Air Force is busy bombing locations; the military is there on the ground, exchanging fire for fire, taking them out in hundreds, that is certainly not treating bandits lightly.”

Politics / How TB Joshua Helped To Rescue Islamiyya School Pupils - Headmaster by GenesisForums: 5:54pm On Aug 27, 2021
Abubakar Alhassan, headmaster of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya school, Tegina in Rafi LGA of Niger state, says the late TB Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN, contributed to the rescue of the abducted pupils.

Alhassan disclosed this while speaking to journalists on Friday after the pupils, who were abducted on May 30, regained their freedom.

Joshua passed on in June, two months after suffering a stroke, and some sympathisers affirmed his philanthropic works after his death.

Commenting on the efforts put in place to secure the release of the pupils, Alhassan said the state government, Muslim and Christian clerics, and other well-meaning Nigerians contributed towards securing the freedom of the children.

“The government contributed; individuals have contributed; the imams, pastors have also contributed. Even I received a call from TB Joshua, he is a Christian, but he contributed,” Alhassan said.

The headmaster further said 93 pupils were abducted, contrary to initial report that the abductees were over 100.

He added that two other children, who were neighbours of the school, were also kidnapped, bringing the total to 95.

Alhassan added that he and the parents are happy over the return of the pupils, noting that they plan to continue with academic activities when the students are settled.

Politics / IPOB Suit: US Court Summons Blinken For Selling Fighter Jets To Buhari Governmen by GenesisForums: 1:07pm On Aug 26, 2021
Following a lawsuit filed by the Indigenous People of Biafra against the sale of fighter jets to President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime, a United States District Court of the District of Columbia has summoned Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

The IPOB is seeking an independent nation for Igbos, especially in the South-East and parts of Nigeria’s South-South region.

“Within 21 days after service of this summons on you (not counting the day you received it) — or 60 days if you are the United States or a United States agency, or an officer or employee of the United States described in Fed. R. Civ. P. 12 (a)(2) or (3) — you must serve on the plaintiff an answer to the attached complaint or a motion under Rule 12 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure,” the summons said, according to People’s Gazette.

The IPOB had sued the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin over the sale of attack planes, arguing that the war machines would be weaponised against the masses opposed to Buhari’s regime.

United States-based constitutional lawyer Bruce Fein filed the case in a federal court in Washington on behalf of the group and 10 unidentified individuals from Nigeria.

Buhari had ordered 12 A-29 Super Tucano fighter jets to tackle the ongoing war against Boko Haram. Six of the planes were delivered in July. Six more jets are expected in a deal of about $600 million approved by former President Donald Trump.

The U.S. Air Force Fighters and Advance Aircraft Directorate had told Nigeria that its 6 Tucano jet fighters would be ready for delivery by October.

“President Buhari’s intends to use the Super Tucano advanced weapons to kill and maim Biafrans and destroy their property in his ongoing genocide conducted by Fulani controlled security forces guilty of atrocious human rights violations,” IPOB said in a July 31 complaint.

“At present,” the complaint pointed out, ““President Buhari is conducting a genocide of Biafrans that is under investigation by the International Criminal Court through (the) use of his Fulani-controlled security forces, including the Nigerian Air Force.”

Nnamdi Kanu’s abduction and repatriation to Nigeria from Kenya in June 2020 was also cited in the court documents as a demonstration of Mr Buhari’s brutish leadership.

Politics / Northern Youths Give Buhari 14 Days To Release Identities Of Terror Sponsors Or. by GenesisForums: 10:17am On Aug 26, 2021
Northern Youths Give Buhari Regime 14 Days To Release Identities Of Terror Sponsors Or Face Consequences.

The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria has asked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to disclose the identities of those financing terror in the country.

This was disclosed in a statement by the President of the Northern Youths Council of Nigeria, Isah Abubakar on Thursday.

During Wednesday's "Sunrise Daily" programme on Channels Television, a guest, Kunle Olawunmi, a retired Navy Commodore and Professor of Intelligence and Global Security Studies, said "he was member of a Committee that interrogated a senior member of this government on Boko Haram related issues".

He said: “In April this year, the government said they had arrested 400 Bureau De Change (BDCs)-related people that were sponsoring Boko Haram. They told us."

“Try them, we know them. Why can’t this government, if not that they are partisan, why can they bring those people out for trial?” he asked.

Referencing his time as a member of the military intelligence team in 2017, he noted that there are some things he cannot disclose to the public.

“I can’t come on air and start mentioning names of people that are presently in government that the boys we arrested mentioned.

“Some of them are governors now. Some of them are in the Senate. Some of them are in Aso Rock," he said.

Subsequently, the Northern Youths Council noted that the weighty allegation if not properly treated, via deliberate government action is capable of further polarising Nigeria, which is faced with different cessation agitations.

A statement by the Council further said it wishes to "call on Mr President to immediately sack Mr Abubakar Malami (Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice) who first brought the issue of the sponsors of insecurity to the public with the promise of unveiling their identity but failed to do so, which has led to this embarrassing and weighty allegation of sectionalism against the government.

"We believe strongly that the Attorney-General is not doing much in prosecuting Boko Haram and ISWAP elements that have been arrested and the over 400 Bureau de Change Operators that are either in the custody of our security agents or have probably regained their freedom.

"The Council is of the firm belief that there can't be peace without justice, hence, the office of Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of the Federation should be occupied by a proactive and more intelligent person other than the snail-paced and docile Malami.

The Council further noted that "Poor Northerners are the victims of terrorism and banditry, hence, any attempt to further shield the identity of the Bureau De Change operators financing the spilling of the blood of our brothers will be meted with massive protest.

"By this, the Council is serving the government a 14-day pre-protest notice. Failure to unveil the identity of the sponsors of the killers of our brothers and sisters, we shall have no other alternative but to occupy the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory until our demands are met."

Foreign Affairs / Taliban To Ban Music In Afghanistan, Speaks On Women Covering Themselves by GenesisForums: 10:10am On Aug 26, 2021
The Taliban government has said it will ban music in public in Afghanistan because the movement considers it un-Islamic.

This is despite the assurances given by the Taliban group that it will be more liberal than it was 20 years ago.

The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, told the New York Times that while women will eventually be allowed to return to work and go on trips to school, and hospitals, they would need a male chaperone for trips that last several days.

He added that music will be banned in the country.

He said, "Music is forbidden in Islam, but we're hoping that we can persuade people not to do such things, instead of pressure them."

According to him, things will be different under this Taliban rule than the previous regime.

In reaction to reports that the Taliban is already extracting vengeance on those who opposed them, Mujahid said, "We want to build the future and forget what happened in the past."

He suggested that women will be allowed to return to their jobs in the future as long as they wear a head covering. He added that concerns that the Taliban would once again force women to stay inside or cover their faces are baseless.

He also said those with proper travel documents will be able to leave the country, and that his regime will not hunt down former interpreters and others who have worked with the American military over the years.

Muhajid, however, expressed frustration at American evacuation efforts.

He said, "They shouldn't interfere in our country and take out our human resources: doctors, professors and other people we need here. In America, they might become dishwashers or cooks. It's inhuman."

But, he said he was still hopeful that the Taliban could build good relationships with the international community, saying they have already cooperated with international leaders on issues like counterterrorism, opium eradication and the reduction of refugees to the West.

Mujahid's remarks came a day after he announced at a press conference that women should remain inside "until we have a new procedure" in place, while the Taliban trains its forces not to harass women.

He said, “We are worried our forces, who are new and have not been yet trained very well, may mistreat women. We don't want our forces, God forbid, to harm or harass women."

He noted that women's salaries will be paid in their homes, echoing what Ahmadullah Waseq, the deputy of the Taliban’s cultural affairs committee, told the Times: that the Taliban has "no problems with working women" as long as they wear hijabs.
