Bandits Harvesting Our Crops, Katsina Monarch Cries Out
The district head of Batsari (Sarkin-Ruman Katsina) in Katsina State, Tukur Mu’azu Ruma, has said bandits fleeing from the onslaught in neighbouring Zamfara and Kaduna states are infiltrating and taking over farming communities in Batsari local government area of Katsina State.
According to him, the current onslaught is causing hardship and starvation for the bandits in the neighbouring states, forcing them to ransack communities within his chiefdom to seize foodstuff and other valuables belonging to innocent residents of the area.
Speaking with journalists at his palace in Batsari, he said many farmers in the local government were not harvesting their crops due to the activities of the bandits, and in some areas the bandits are the one doing the harvest instead.
He said the bandits displaced by security agencies in Zamfara State had formed different enclaves in communities bordering Runka forest and other adjoining forests in the area from where they come out daily to attack innocent citizens at the night, especially along Batsari-Jibia road.
He recalled the recent invasion of Yasore community where 11 farmers were killed and many were injured by the fleeing bandits.
“As a result of security measures taken against the bandits by the state government, especially the shutdown of telecommunication services, the bandits are suffering from starvation so they are attacking our communities and stealing foodstuff from residents.
“Recently, they attacked the Yasore community and killed 11 farmers, burnt their silos and houses. After the attack, the criminals stopped those who survived the invasion from accessing their farms in order to harvest their crops.
“Now, they (bandits) are the ones harvesting their sesame, millets, maize, guinea corn and other crops. It is sad that these bandits killed people in the community and they can’t allow those that survived to harvest their crops. I have informed security agencies of the ugly development,” he said.
Apart from Yasore, he said farmers in Duba, Sabon-garin Dunburawa, Bakin-ragi and Labo communities were facing similar security challenges as according to him residents are finding it difficult to harvest their crops.
He therefore called for the deployment of more security personnel to the area to tackle banditry and enable farmers to harvest their crops.
He however said the Security Containment Order signed by Governor Aminu Bello Masari, to tackle banditry in the state was yielding results.
The Sarkin-Ruman Katsina added that the Masari-led administration had been able to fight banditry by suspending telecommunication services in 13 local governments, saying the move had helped to cut off communication between the bandits and their informants.
The Ondo State Police Command yesterday confirmed the abduction of two little girls of nursery and kindergarten classes and the stealing of their mother’s car in Akure, the state capital.
Operatives of Kogi State Police Command have however arrested two suspected kidnappers – Danlami Shuaibu and Kabiru Amadu – who have been terrorising innocent citizens along Itobe – Ayingba highway in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
THISDAY gathered that the unidentified men suspected to be kidnappers carried out the abduction at Leo area, in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami, told THISDAY that the abduction took place on Friday night.
She said: “Upon their return from an outing at about 8 p.m., the mother parked the car in front of her house and went out to open the gates leaving the two kids in the vehicle.
“Another car with three occupants suddenly drove up to her; some of the occupants collected her car keys and drove her car away with the kids inside.
“The anti-kidnapping section of the police is already on the trail of the assailants to rescue the two kids and recover the car,” the PPRO added.
Meanwhile, the operatives of the Kogi State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers – Danlami Shuaibu and Kabiru Amadu – who have been terrorising innocent citizens along the Itobe-Ayingba highway in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Kogi State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP William Aya, which was made available to journalists in Lokoja yesterday.
The suspects were arrested by the police team following intelligence-led operations to contain the activities of criminal elements in the area.
The suspects confessed to belonging to a gang responsible for terrorising road users along the Itobe-Anyigba highway.
The statement added that during the preliminary investigation, one of the suspects gave useful information that led to the arrest of another suspect named Adejoh Tijani of the same address.
“Upon searching their houses, the following items were recovered; One cut to size single barrel gun; One locally made Pistol; One POS Machine; One battle-axe; One face mask; five live cartridges, and some assorted charms, while effort is ongoing to arrest other members of the gang. All the suspects will be charged to court on the conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban, while commending the officers for the breakthrough, assured the members of the public of the command’s determination in synergy with other security agencies in the state to ensure adequate safety of life and property.
Nigerian Music legend, Eedris Abdulkareem, has reacted to the claims by the Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami that Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho is being sponsored by a National Assembly member.
Recall that Malami had on Friday stated that the secessionist has 43 accounts in different banks, stressing that some financers of Igboho have consistently deposited funds in the accounts.
Reacting, Eedris on his Instagram page queried why Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is not linked to terrorist despite his access to bandits and why bandits are not treated as terrorists.
“It was Kanu, then Sowore, now Igboho on terrorist link but Gumi and his bandits brothers are not terrorists.
“They blew up train lines, the victims saw them, but the government is covering for them. One Nigeria!” he wrote.
The police in Imo State said they have raided another camp operated by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Michael Abattam, said in Owerri that the success was part of the ongoing clearance Operation embarked by the Imo State Police Command aimed at wiping out the remnants of the proscribed insurgent group.
The camp was located in a valley in Amaifeke in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Abattam said a concrete intelligence revealed that members of the proscribed IPOB/ ESN members were sighted in an isolated uncompleted building in the area planning to resume terror attacks on police formations and government installations in the state.
The PPRO in the statement said, “On 11/9/2021 at about 1230 hours, the command’s tactical teams immediately mobilised and stormed the hideout of the terror group located in an uncompleted building in a valley at Essential Home popularly known as “Ngbuka”, Amaifeke Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State.
“The members of the terror group, on sighting the police operatives in their hideout, opened fire on them.
“The gallant and battle-ready tactical teams swiftly returned the fire.
“In the gun duel, three of the hoodlums; namely Chidera Nnabuhe, the Orlu Sector Commander of IPOB/ESN a.k.a Dragon a native of Umuala Amaifeke in Orlu LGA and two others with a.k.a, J.J and Dadawa both natives of Ohazara in Ebonyi state were neutralised.
He said that two others, Emeka Sunday, 20, of Anike in Ohazara LGA of Ebonyi State and Anthony Okeke ‘M’ age 44 years of Umuala Amaifeke, Orlu LGA of Imo were arrested while others escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.
According to him, on searching the camp and its surroundings, a native goat that have just been slaughtered with the blood drained into a container and rub on their bodies to fortify themselves against police bullets was recovered alongside two locally fabricated General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 16 Improvised Explosives Devices (I.E.Ds), one English made pump action gun, two locally made Pistols, 37 rounds of live cartridges, three Automatic Machine Guns kick-starter, one Bomb detonator, three Automatic Guns connecting batteries, a big bag containing Gun Powder, Charms, two Biafran Flags, three bomb detonator remote control, among others.
Simon Ekpa has reacted to CNN's report on Biafra and Kanu's arrest. In the documentary, Stephanie Busari said "Nnamdi Kanu, a separatist leader, who has been on the run since 2015 was arrested in June and extradited from Kenya back to Nigeria."
Reacting, Simon Ekpa, a self-styled disciple of Nnamdi Kanu, described the report as "the most unprofessional and absurd report" he has listened to.

KATSINA – In an effort to get rid of snakes and other reptiles in the entire campus, the Management of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina State, has succeeded in expelling a large number of snakes within the environment of the institution.
The University management in a statement made available to newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday said the effort paid off through one of the regular fumigation exercises held at the institution.
It stated that the University authority usually conducts fumigation exercise fortnightly to ward off reptiles, snakes and other insects to make the university habitable to its staff, students and its guests.
“Besides the fumigation exercise, clearing of bushes and shrubs is carried out to beautify the university surroundings and to chase away reptiles and other rodents for all members of the University community to feel safe and move freely without any fear.
“Now that the rainy season is at its peak, students and all members of the university community are strongly encouraged to report immediately any suspicious movement of reptiles to the university authorities for prompt action,” the statement added.
The University authority however assured that it would continue to safeguard the lives of its staff, students and other visitors by being proactive in tackling all challenges that pose a threat to lives within the campus.
“Staff and students are encouraged to go about their normal businesses as the university management is ready to ensure a safe environment for everyone,” the statement concluded.
IPOB members are currently roasting a renowned Igbo Icon, Maazi Ogbonnaya Okoro, for "exposing" their group's evil atrocities. In his tweet, which was reported by Genesis News, Maazi Okoro revealed how some ESN hoodlums murdered Mr Timothy and destroyed his truck loaded with goods worth several millions. Everything, including the truck and the goods, was burnt to ashes!
However, IPOB members have taken to social media platforms to lambast Mr Ogbonnaya for uncovering such evil!

Enforcers of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) sit-at-home order in Obukpa, Nsukka Enugu state on Monday hijacked a trailer loaded with goods, and burnt it to ashes.
The trailer, containing motorbikes spare parts was set ablaze ‘for not observing IPOB sit at home order’.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that the proscribed group instituted a mandatory sit-at-home exercise every Monday to protest the incarceration of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu is currently in the custody of the Department of State Security Services, DSS after being captured in Kenya earlier this year. The secessionist leader has been on the run from the Nigerian Government after jumping bail in 2017.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami has been promoted to the rank of Professor of Cybersecurity.
Mr Pantami is among seven Readers (Associate Professors) promoted to Professors by the Governing Council of Federal Univerity of Technology Owerri, FUTO, at its 186th meeting held on Friday, August 20, 2021.
Others promoted from Readers to Professor are Dr Okechukwu Onyelucheya of Chemical Engineering, Dr. Alex I. Opara (Geology), Dr. Conrad Enenebeaku (Chemistry), Dr. Chikwendu Okereke (Geology), Engr. Dr. Lawence Ettu (Civil Engineering) and Dr. Godfrey Emeghara (Maritime Management Technology).
The Council also approved the recommendation of the Academic Staff Appointment and Promotions Committee (Professorial) for the promotion of nine Senior Lecturers to Readers and two Senior University Librarians to Deputy University Librarians.
A scholar of information technology, Mr Pantami who recently bagged the Security and Emergency Management Award, SAEMA, on Cybersecurity had lectured at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi, on ICT, before joining the Islamic University of Madinah as Head of Technical Writing in 2014.
He was appointed the Director-General and CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, in 2016, before he was appointed the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy on 21 August 2019.
A senior lecturer at the FUTO told PRNigeria that the university committee is excited to have Mr Pantami as one of its new seven Professors, even though the minister has indicated that he would not receive remuneration because of his current position.
“We gladly welcome this new set of Professors, in our reputable institution. It is even more heartwarming to note that Prof. Pantami has already communicated to the University that he won’t collect salary for now because of his national assignment.
“As you are aware Professorial title on an individual connotes leadership and exceptional contribution at national and international levels in research, scholarship, teaching/mentorship and learning.
“In Nigerian universities, a professorial appointment has been a prerogative of the Senate of the Universities. Because of autonomy, the criteria for the appointment of a professor varies from one university to another.
“A criteria for appointment of a professor is usually a process unless strong evidence indicates some waiver. The professorship is not a theory, but a practical aspect; an expert with the ability to profess his expertise in his field/profession.
“The procedure for appointment and conferment of a professor is annual and include an application by suitably qualified individuals through recruitment or promotion.
“The application is internally assessed by a panel of assessors (mostly professors) usually by the relevant members of a Senate standing committee of Appointment and Promotion (A&PC) of the University.
“Upon the committee’s positive assessment, the University may communicate to the applicant his appointment to the professorial position subject to a positive assessment of External Academic Assessors (usually three, one of which may be a reputable professor in Europe or North America).
“These External Assessors are independent of the applicant and are of professorial standing in a discipline related to the applicant’s core research and academic interest.

“Therefore, in summary, appointment and promotion to a professorial position is a process and varies from university to university. University Senate is the final approving body for the conferment of professorial title on applicant and has also the power to waive certain criteria to confer the title when they are convinced that the applicant is qualified to have the title,” he said.
Activist Deji Adeyanju has said churches should ensure couples conduct a DNA test on their child before coming for child dedication ceremony.
He also advocated for DNA test to be promoted as a national policy.
He tweeted, “Abegiii my correct brother. DNA is a must. Let us promote it as national policy. Churches should make it mandatory for child dedication.”
Adeyanju’s post comes amid the marital drama between popular comedian and OAP, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, and his estranged wife Uzoma Ohiri.
The OAP’s wife had taken to social media to accuse him of domestic violence which he denied.
In his rebuttal on social media, Nedu accused her of infidelity, adding that a DNA test revealed that he’s not the biological father of their first son.
His post read in part, “Our marriage was one plagued with a lot of issues. One of which was continuous infidelity from her side that led to me conducting a paternity test on our kids which led to the revelation that our first son is not my biological son even though he was born within the period during which we were married.”
One Twitter user, @Tosanwumi, who reacted to Adeyanju’s advice, said, “Many men cannot stand the outcome. Depression will increase.”

Popular activist, Aisha Yesufu, has described the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a terrorists’ party.
Yesufu, co-convener of BringBackOurGirls, BBOG, advocacy group said PDP is a pathetic terrorists’ party.
The socio-political activist made the remark while expressing her displeasure for former President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a tweet, the activist said she would have voted for Jonathan to be stoned.
Yesufu said Jonathan was the least of her choice as Nigeria leader in 2015.
She also insisted that the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are the same.
“I would have voted to STONE over Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and it is my constitutional right.
“PDP in opposition attack me just as they attacked me when I protested when they were in government. Pathetic terrorists party! #PDPIsTheSameAsAPC #LikeGejitesLikeBuharists,” Yesufu wrote.
Yesufu is known for speaking out against the failure of governments in power.
Under Jonathan, Yesufu alongside the BBOG group, constantly criticized the then administration over failure to rescue abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
The activist has continued with her strides under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.
A gang of bandits invaded Kurami home town of Ibrahim Aminu Kurami, lawmaker representing Bakori constituency in Katsina House of Assembly, and abducted his wife and two children.
It comes nearly a year after the lawmaker himself was abducted and kept for days until he was ransomed.
The bandits drove in on motorbikes and cars around 8pm Saturday night, blockaded the Funtua-Katsina road for minutes while the abduction of the Kurami family went on at his home, a source said.
“Immediately after Ishaa’i prayers we started hearing gun shots in the town, before we know it they already positioned themselves in the strategic places of the town to avert any possible move by the residents to engage them,” Muhammad Kurami.
“They went straight to the to the home of the Honourable Member and made away with his wife and two children.”
He added that in the course of the abduction, the bandits wounded one Abdulhakim Ubaidu.
Residents and vigilantes in the area launched a pursuit after the incident.
About a year ago before his election in a bye-election as a member representing Bakori, Kurami himself was abducted from his residence and kept in captivity for days until a ransom was paid to secure his release.
Meanwhile, last week on the night of August 28 suspected bandits invaded Bakori town and abducted one Alhaji Amu and his two daughters as well as younger brother of District Head Bakori, Idris Sule Idris.
Up to the time of this report the victims were still with the kidnappers.
Bakori, Funtua and Danja council areas are fast becoming vulnerable to bandit attacks in recent months.
Banditry has over the years destabilized the neighbouring Faskari, Kankara, Sabuwa and Dandume causing mass exodus of residents from their ancestral villages and hamlets.
Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have embarked on a massive community improvement exercise in Ghana. They were sighted cleaning up filthy drains, canals, while calling on the Ghanaian government to release their members in return.
The Ghanaian police, last month, stormed their meeting venue and arrested scores.
Sources revealed to Genesis News that the arrest is not unconnected to the high rate of criminal activities around the vicinity.
"Criminals hide under 'IPOB meeting' to plot their evil schemes" one of the sources noted.
IPOB DOS REACTS
Meanwhile, the Directorate of State, DOS, has reacted to the arrest. In a statement signed by its deputy head, Mazi Chukwuemeka Nzurumike, it condemned in strong terms their arrest and continued detention.

Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday bemoaned the perennial displacement of residents across Benue, saying the plight of people living in camps for the internally displaced has been giving him erectile dysfunction.
At a public function near the capital Makurdi, Mr Ortom said President Muhammadu Buhari and special duties minister George Akume have failed to support him in his fight against killer herdsmen, working against the interest of Benue people instead.
Mr Ortom said there was “no way as a leader” would he feel comfortable knowing that thousands of his people have been displaced from their villages by killer herdsmen who were on a conquest to take lands from indigenous Benue settlers.
“Even when I am on top of my wife and I remember the people who are in IDP camps…” Mr Ortom said with a pause for camera effect. A male voice in the audience then helped him to conclude his sentence, saying “It goes flat,” to which the governor then responded with a smile.
Mr Ortom has been locked in fierce political confrontation with Mr Buhari and his appointees following his decision to implement a ban on open grazing of cattle by herders of Mr Buhari’s ethnic Fulani stock.
The president has insisted that he would not support a ban on open grazing and tried to force states to bow to the federal government on the appropriation solution to the crisis, which has left thousands killed and untold damage caused to assets and livelihoods since Mr Buhari assumed office in 2015.
The president has faced criticism for pushing the interest of herdsmen while showing little sympathy to victims of their brutality, including from members of his ruling APC. He has vigorously denied the claims and said his administration has implemented a series of security, administrative and financial solutions to mitigate the crisis.

Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, whose eldest son, Abdulkareem, was murdered at his Malali home in Kaduna State, has said his son’s life is not better than that of any other Nigerian.
In a statement he issued on Monday, Na’Allah expressed hope that his death will play a major role in finding solutions to Nigeria’s problems.
Senator Na’Allah who was outside Nigeria when the incident occurred, said his son’s attackers were not armed with guns.
“They simply gained access to his house through the roof and strangulated him. As a family, we will continue to love him even in death because he was such a wonderful person in his life.”
“His life is not better than any other Nigerian. As a family we leave everything in the hands of Almighty Allah to whom we have since surrendered in pursuit of the strength to bear the loss of Abdulkareem in our family and by the numerous calls, messages and visits we have received so far, we have every course to thank Almighty Allah for his love and mercy to the family,” he stated.
Na’Allah, who represents Kebbi South and is the also Chairman, Senate Committee on Air Force, added that: “We assure the public that though we feel greatly diminished in the manner he was killed, we shall remain steadfast in our unshakable belief in the will of Allah. We shall persevere and overcome this tragic loss of one of the finest Ambassadors of our family who has done us proud in his life. We express the hope that his death will play a major role in finding solutions to the problem facing our great Nation.”
He thanked the Nigerian Police and the Government of Kaduna for their intervention and prayed Allah grants Abdulkareem eternal rest.
Daily Trust reports that the 36-year-old pilot and eldest son of Na’Allah was found dead at his residence on Umar Gwandu road, Malali; one of the posh areas of Kaduna metropolis.

The Ghanaian police have reportedly arrested some members of the Indigenous people of BIAFRA (IPOB). According to our sources, they were arrested while carrying out their monthly meeting.
Two persons are feared dead and one injured when gunmen invaded Ka-Bori community in Khana Local Government Area on Sunday morning.
A resident said the gunmem came into the community and started shooting indiscriminately, saying the dead victims were a man and a women were killed.
The native disclosed that the man and one of the women shot died in the process while the second woman shot was rus,ed to undisclosed hospital.
She said though the police moved in, the attackers had fled.
She stated, “They entered Ka-Bori, killed one woman and a man. One other person that was shot is in the hospital now.
“The place is calm now because police came. But the people (attackers) escaped before police came.”
Also speaking, a resident of the area simply identified as Bari told our correspondent that they heard gunshots around Ka-Bori at about 6am and the shooting lasted about 40 minutes.
The native said two persons were missing while a house was razed during the attack.
When cintacted, spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, asked our correspondent to send a text message but was yet to give a feedback as of the time of filing this report.
Suspected bandits have killed two persons as military troops rescue three in separate attacks in Kajuru and Jema’a Local Government areas of Kaduna State
A source told DAILY POST in Kaduna on Sunday that bandits attacked Makoro village in Kajuru on Saturday night, shot two persons; Mr. Gideon Mumini and Barnabas Ezra to death.
ASP Mohammed Jalige, Kaduna Police Public Relations officer did not pick his calls and did not respond to text messages sent to him for confirmation.
However, Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan confirmed the attack and killings in a statement on Sunday
He said security agencies have reported to the state government that bandits killed two persons in Makoro Iri village of Kajuru LGA.
The statement further said, the bandits invaded the remote village and shot dead two persons; Gideon Mumini and Barnabas Ezra.
He further said troops of Operation Safe Haven rescued three travellers from armed bandits along the Gidan Waya- Godogodo road in Jema’a LGA.
“The travellers were abducted by armed bandits who barricaded the road, Troops responded to a distress call and pursued the bandits, rescued; Jibril Salisu, Happy Sunday Ruth Dauda ” the statement said
He said, the rescued travellers’ vehicle, a Peugeot 307, was also recovered.
Mr. Aruwan said, Governor Nasir El-Rufai who was sad over the killings, prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls, just as he sent condolences to their families.
“Responding to the report of the rescue in Jema’a LGA, the Governor commended the troops for the swift response. He thanked them for their determined efforts in rescuing the three commuters, and their sustaining of search-and-rescue operations in the area.” The statement further said
