The summary of it all is that the rates ranges from 5% to 35% of the value of the vehicle depending on the nature and disposition of the vehicle. Only those vehicles or carriages meant for people with disability are exempted from paying duties.
With this in mind we should be able to project the rate and value of duty to be paid to the custom authority. In most cases so many Nigerians are not aware of this fixed prices hence the exploitation when the issue of payment come to the fore. To be forewarned is to be forearmed

You are wrong. They are companies that air frieght cars into Nigeria but they can be very expensive. They can cost nothing lest than $15,000.

Only wondering why someone would pay so much for it,  Perhaps it makes sense with regards to the time factor in comparism with sea freighting.  Maybe  by air freighting, a car will reach Nigerian soil in 12 hours.

Cars are not Air Freight'd, they are put into cargo ships and sea freighted (on water).  DHL is a letter, document and parcel courier company and not a car shipping company. They use Airlines for transportation of their post.

The cost of shipping a car from the US depends on the originating port in the US and the shipping agency you use. But the price range is typically from $1000 to $1170.

What is happening?

A car being advertised, does'nt necessarily mean it is still for sale. Only about 80% of cars advertised on car websites are available for sale.

The onus lies on the seller to delist his ad once a car has been fully sold to a client, Some websites have strict terms and guidelines with regards to a subscriber who does'nt delist an ad once a car has been fully sold, there is usually a specified, set time frame to do so.

It looks like the person who sold the car to our poster here, clearly has'nt done so.

I'm going to change my car sometime this year, i had been thinking of bringing in something from America, but after following this thread, i'm having 2nd thoughts. I have 2 questions for you.

Is it really cheaper to bring in cars from Europe (assume same model and year in America).

Secondly the issue of overheating is very important, I currently use a honda accord and i can do 2 hours in stand still traffic with ac on and no overheating. This wasnt the case with the BMW 325i I used before. But I am a BMW fan, and I would love to drive another one, if the overheating problem is not there. Are there mechanics in Lagos that can do a great job of "climatizing" the european cars.

That said, can you give pricing (to my door in Lagos) for the following cars from Europe (if possible with pix):

Benz C-Class, Auto, AC, Low Mileage, 2000-2003 models
BMW 5 series Auto, AC, Low Mileage, 2000-2003 models
