FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – A mechanic for American Airlines has been arrested, accused of trying to sabotage a flight set to take off from Miami International Airport.
According to a criminal complaint affidavit filed in federal court, Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani admitted during an interview Thursday that he was frustrated by union contract negotiations and that he tampered with a navigation system on the plane so that he could collect overtime work.

The plane, with 150 people on board, was scheduled to fly from Miami to Nassau in the Bahamas on July 17. As the pilots powered up the plane at Miami International Airport, they saw an error message for a system that tracks speed, nose direction and other critical flight information and aborted the takeoff.

When mechanics examined the plane, they found a piece of foam glued inside a navigation system part called an air data module. Video from an American Airlines surveillance camera captured a person who drove up to the plane, got out and spent seven minutes working around the compartment containing the navigation system, according to the affidavit.
The person was later identified by co-workers as Alani, in part by his distinctive limp, the affidavit said.
When he was interviewed Thursday, “Alani stated that his intention was not to cause harm to the aircraft or its passengers,” according to the affidavit by Jose A. Ruiz, a federal air marshal who serves on an FBI terrorism task force.
Alani explained that stalled contract negotiations between Fort Worth-based American Airlines and the mechanics’ unions were hurting him financially, and he tampered with the plane “to cause a delay or have the flight cancelled in anticipation of obtaining overtime work,” Ruiz wrote.
American has accused mechanics of an illegal work slowdown that has led to hundreds of canceled flights in recent months. The airline successfully sued two unions that represent the workers. This week, both sides announced that they will resume negotiations Sept. 16 in Washington, with help from a federal mediator. The mechanics’ unions have been trying to secure a new contract for more than three years.
In a statement, American Airlines said it cooperated fully with the investigation “and we are taking this matter very seriously.” The airline said the plane was taken out of service after the July incident and repaired and inspected before it was allowed to fly again.
Alani was charged with willfully damaging or disabling an aircraft. He is expected to appear in federal court in Miami on Friday.

My brother I don't think Igbos have that much to loose. In 1966, we held commanding positions in various aspects of human endeavour within Nigeria, but now, we have practically nothing save the businesses that we now do. We don't control the security scene, we don't control the federal government, we don't control any meaningful ministry.
But Igbos are extremely brave, and I think it is about time we started putting our bravery to good use, including coming after Tinubu.

My concern on that is the likely retaliatory assaulting, or even killing, of innocent Igbos in non-Igbo territories of Nigeria. IPOB must keep that possibility in mind before they attempt to assault a non-Igbo politician outside Nigeria.

And, are you by any means suggesting that Yorubas or Hausa will take it lightly if an Igbo group assaults their leaders (even corrupt leaders)? As my name indicates, I am a GermanNig (of Igbo origin, I might add); I have lived LEGALLY in Germany since 2005. I left Nigeria LEGALLY to study in Germany and things have been great for me since then. I am also a veteran of Nairaland, having joined since 2007. I want to speak briefly on the assault on Ekweremadu and the bigger implications for Nigerian politicians visiting foreign countries with significant Diaspora Nigerian presence moving forward. These corrupt politicians come abroad to spend our stolen wealth. They oppress you at home with the money they stole from you. They also want to oppress us abroad with the same money. We abroad are not letting them go scot-free. Assaulting politicians is an acceptable action in many developed countries. However, you may run afoul of the law, depending on the degree and nature of the assault. Politicians have been stoned, egged, knocked or hit in the US, Europe, Australia, Turkey, Ukraine and other places. Ekweremadu was not really beaten to stupor; he was roughened up a little, harassed and stoned. As an Ajibota, he was sweating like a Christmas goat for a little roughening up, when compared to what ordinary Nigerians take from the Nigerian system every passing day. So, what happened to him was no innovation by IPOB; it was an anticipated development, even if new for Nigeria. It did not rise to the level of being against German laws. Therefore, we saw in the interview by the German police in Nuremberg essentially saying case is OVER. Everyone go home.

Fast forward to 2019 and the Nigerian leaders are starting to be assaulted not by Nigerians in Nigeria (all of you back home are BLOODY cowards), but by Nigerians (Igbos) abroad. I completely support assaulting them within the ambits of the law of each country. However, I beg IPOB to observe the ''Charity-begins-at-home'' mantra. This means that they should only assault Igbo politicians (those found wanting in terms of not representing their people as they should, and stealing public funds). Imagine where the 5 incompetent Igbo governors (and the local govt chairmen) are harassed and pelted anytime they step their feet abroad. They will sit back home and do the job of leading their states to economic greatness. That way, Igbos will not have to migrate en mass abroad.

This brings me to the question: Can IPOB assault somebody like Tinubu in Germany?

Nigeria is a highly tribalized society. As such, IPOB may be seen as having no ''cultural right'' to assault or harass a corrupt Yoruba, Hausa, Fulani or other non-Igbo corrupt politicians. The ethnic perception of the events leading to the Biafra war, in which corrupt leaders of other ethnic groups were rounded up by Nigerians mainly of Igbo extraction, MUST not be repeated by IPOB. For the public assault on Nigerian politicians visiting foreign countries to be effective, each ethnic group must only deal with their own thieves. Imagine IPOB attacking Tinubu in Germany? That will be Biafra War 2.0 accusation from the Yorubas.


Of course, any Nigerian can verbally attack any political leader, regardless of ethnicity and within the ambit of free speech. IPOB has now set the ball rolling. Let's see other Nigerians abroad take on their own bad leaders when they visit.

Nigerian Jailed 90 Years In US For Fathering Six Children With Own Daughters

An award-winning Nigerian music director, Aswad Ayinde, found guilty of fathering children with his daughters will spend the rest of his life in jail.

According to Mail Online, Ayinde, 55, of Paterson, New Jersey, United States, was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Friday after being found guilty in the second of five expected trials in which he is accused of repeatedly raping his six daughters, resulting in six children being fathered.
Mr. Ayinde was found guilty in his latest trial of having intercourse with a daughters when she was as young as eight-years-old. The second sentence adds to the 40 year sentence Mr Ayinde received in a 2011 trial for sexually assaulting a separate daughter.
Mr. Ayinde is known for directing the music video for the Fugees 1996 smash hit “Killing Me Softly.”
In a disturbing disclosure during his first trial, Mr. Ayinde’s former wife said he was trying to create a “pure family bloodline” by impregnating his daughters. He even claimed during a pre-trial hearing before the first trial that “the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen.”
In this latest trial, it was revealed that Mr. Ayinde began having intercourse with his second daughter from the time she eight-years-old, impregnating her four times.
The sexual assaults happened for almost 30 years until Mr. Ayinde and his wife separated, officials said. They occurred in numerous homes across northern New Jersey, even while the family was under watch of state child welfare officials, according to NBC New York. Some of the rapes even took place in an abandoned funeral home.
The family moving as far away as Florida to avoid investigation after case workers removed multiple children from the Ayinde household in 2000, resulting in Mr. Ayinde being arrested for kidnapping for trying to take them from state custody in a medical center, NBC New York reported.
He pleaded guilty to lesser charges and received a year’s probation – as he continued raping one daughter for at least another two years, according to officials.
The depraved father also beat and starved the girls using wooden boards and steel-toed boots for even “minor transgressions,” Ayinde’s wife testified at the first trial.
Some of the children Ayinde fathered with his daughters were born in the home, with at least two babies who died in the home having been buried without notifying authorities or obtaining birth certificates, NBC New York reported.
Ayinde’s tortured daughters were home schooled and isolated from other children, so as to keep the family secrets hidden, the station added.
With his wife too afraid to confront him, Mr. Ayinde carried out his evil plan without hindrance even while directing the music video for the Fugees 1996 breakout hit ‘Killing Me Softly, for which he won ‘Best R&B Video’ at the 1996 MTV Music Video Awards. The Fugees are also originally from Northern New Jersey.

Keep consoling yourself. Some High Schools ( = Secondary Schools in Nigeria) in America are better equipped than some PhD programs in Nigeria. They teach AI and Robotics in Elementary Schools in America. As far as I know (and please correct me with facts if I am wrong), there is no Robotics PhD holder (let alone MS or BS) solely from a NIGERIAN university
