Nairaland / General / Nigerians Are Suffering Because Of Our Values by Gidexxxx: 7:51am On Mar 09, 2022
Sometimes when think about how this country that is supposed to be the envy of all African nations and many others in the world turned out to be like this, it just makes me to shake my head in disbelief.
Nigeria is suffering from a lot of challenges with the most severe ones being inflation and security. The most devastating one that affects people on a daily is the constant rise in the prices of items in the market, for reasons you can't just comprehend. We know the naira is performing bad against the dollar, but that is not all, and I will try to explain what I have noticed.
1. Nigerians are criminally minded.
This is not to bash all the populace of the country, but it is true that most people in businesses are very dishonest and greedy. I live in Makurdi, Benue and over the past months and for reasons I don't quite understand, a satchet of pure water was sold for #20 and you could get three for #50.
But things have subsided and the prices has returned to normal as bags are being sold for #150 currently but many people buy and sell for #20! They want a temporary inflation to be permanent for their own selfish gains. That is why things are never cheap in this country even when you have them in abundance.

2. Corruption is a value we cherish

In a country where dishonesty, greed, and desire to exploit each other have been given names like " being wise", "not dulling" and other forms of glorification, it is no wonder that we are currently suffering from thesame ethics we hold on to as a society and nation.
The people in power today were once amongst us as ordinary people who held on to these same beliefs and mentality waiting for an opportunity.
If you and I think that the country's wealth is a "national cake" to have a piece of to ourselves, then what is stopping us from embezzlement when we get there? Power doesn't corrupt people. People are corrupt.
The whole system of the country is built on negative and immoral vices that has gone unchecked for years and has gone really deep.
If not, explain how can item cost you #500 in Ikorodu and #1500 in Lekki? In thesame state for that matter!

3. We don't have a government. Everyone is his own government.
The recent fuel scarcity opened my eyes to discover how lawless and also funny this country is. Petrol stations don't have enough fuel to sell yet you see fuel in huge quantities in the black markets. These dealers are not even afraid of the law (and that's because there's none), as they were littered on the road doing their business in front of petrol stations selling fuel for more than twice the pump price.
Corruption is at play again and everyone wants to partake of it as it has become a natural instinct if you're a Nigerian.
I know things can't change overnight but our little efforts into a change for a better society can mean a lot to the next generation. If things continue like this, then this nation would be lost.

Religion / How I Made The Mistake Of Telling My Pastor A Secret by Gidexxxx: 7:06am On Dec 20, 2021
So I joined this church through my aunt some months back and became a member. Though I'm not really a church person and I haven't been consistent, yet I attend some of their programs and church services at least twice a month.
So over the weekend, a brother in the church informed me about a youth program that has been taking place since the previous day and would end on that day. Since I love anything that has to do with the youths, i became excited and decided to attend so I asked him for the address.
On getting to the place, I have to admit that I was disappointed at what I saw, as I was led to a small room containing less than thirty people. For hours all we did was pray (in the usual violent Pentecostal way) which was very exhausting.
Around evening like 4-5pm, in one of the prayer sessions, my pastor said people who have problems of any kind should come out for deliverance. Some people came out for various reasons, which ranged from having weird dreams to spiritual attacks. I decided to go out because of an addiction I really want to stop and I thought he would help.
When it got to my turn, he asked me my problem and I told. He laid his hands on me and started casting and binding twisting my head in several directions. He then handed me to another pastor who did the same thing in the name of prayers.
After the whole thing and returning to my seat, I felt like I have made a mistake. I felt I shouldn't have gone to the alter in the first place. I was expecting him to at least promise to have a conversation with me regarding the addiction. He never did.
The worse thing now is that I see this pastor in church every Sunday and I'm afraid he wouldn't see me thesame way again after revealing such an embarrassing secret to him. And besides, I don't trust these pastors and their "deliverance" of a thing. I should have tried therapy instead.
Did I really make a mistake?

You are not saying the truth please. 600/8=75. I quote you again, there's no where you can buy a cup of rice at N75 in Nigeria today.
It is not a lie. I am a student here in Makurdi, Benue and I can testify that those price list are correct. Local rice 1 mudu sells for N600 but you must be willing to eat enough stones with it. cheesy. Potatoes are grouped like onions here for just N200. The only thing is that this place is dry money wise.

Romance / Why Are Some Men Obsessed With A Woman's Huge Breasts And Backside? by Gidexxxx: 9:22am On Oct 19, 2021
I have come to notice that most guys and even men almost drool whenever they come across a busty lady.
Do they do these because of the sexual attractiveness or because they think busty ladies are better than the slim ones.
Let me hear what you think.
