CraigB:

Obasanjo was a soldier and according to the below, he was also a military leader.

Our point exactly.

Olusegun Obasanjo, (born March 5, 1937, Abeokuta, Nigeria), Nigerian general, politician, and diplomat, who was the first military leader in Africa to hand over power to civilian rule. He served as ruler of Nigeria (1976–79) and as president (1999–2007).

He was a soldier. GEJ? Not really.

You need some education now. So here it goes ...

The Nigerian Constitution (1999) recognises the President as a civilian citizen elected for the people by the people (democratically). President Obasanjo (a retired General) therefore was a civilian when he assumed office! The photo posted is of him in his full Naval outfit as the elected President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed forces of Nigeria ... which of course conforms with the constitutional requirements of his office!

So which of the Obasanjos are you refering to? The one of 1979 or of 2007? Wake up kid!
I have some free time to help you waste! But then, nice effort going with your keen interest and research on your beloved Nigeria. Oh! don't deny it! grin

Let's talk about "military stuff",can we? And please stop showing your stupidity,by this profanity.

I'm sure you can't place your brain on what a military uniform has to do with the military on this military focused thread!

souldust: @andrew although he is the first civilian president to put it on but we have no problems with GEJ wearing the military uniform. You can see the service chiefs by his side and they seem not to have problems with it. You dont claim to know more than our service chiefs, do you? Do you think he used force to make them decorate him in military colours? I know you guys dont think very highly of us. What reasons you have for that, i dont know.

Souldust ... President Olusegun Obasanjo before him put on the uniform as civilian President. Will need to check for Yaradua.

Some brains need serious panelbeating! When a boy sits in a far-flung corner using a borrowed Mac computer to comment blindly on matters miles and oceans away of which he has no first hand information ... his case is like that of a silly snail trying hard to live outside of its shell. It may be free from itself, but terribly exposing it's own stupidity.

The boy CraigB loves exposing his complete ignorance of Nigerian issues with such recklessness! Sad story of a life! You go tire walahi!

That your response was calm is irrelevant. You were asked (in response to your comment) where your weapons were when Boko H killed people. You couldn't answer. So you decided to talk about crime.

Now you omit to mention your post, which started it all. You should've simply answered Mike's question, which you asked for anyway.

I'd directly respond to you this last time. Go to the top of page 466 and see your Mike..ZA's clear intentions. It's the very first post. A very weak attempt at recycling materials or talking points like yourself and surrogates. Mike..ZA's intentions by that question were clear.

Mike..ZA:
Are they kept as a secret or they're put in long term storage?

My response ... (note boldly highlighted portion)

Seems you are rabblerousing ... possibly looking for a blowout like we've had many times over. Nigeria is actively involved and engaged with all weapons and hardware deployed to suite the field operations. SANDF's Gripens will remain in the freezer for a long time to come while we maximise use of all the above listed for success as usual.

Clearly the he confirms his intentions ... looking for a blowout. People without actual ideas of issues will speak ignorantly.

Mike..ZA: But even when you "engaged all your weapons",boko haram still manages to terrify your citizens. If the SANDF was heavily engaged like you guys, new awesome weapons might be fielded.

I will not give anyone undeserved joy by answering silly questions aimed at silly rabblerousing. So, if asking a similar question cannot be handled calmly by your lot, I suggest you log off or find somewhere/something else better! Your selective memory/comprehension of points is evident. Help yourselves.

When it matters most South Africans will love to trade blames and shirk responsibilities. This is the correct sequence of their new recyling venture.

Mike..ZA:
But even when you "engaged all your weapons",boko haram still manages to terrify your citizens. If the SANDF was heavily engaged like you guys, new awesome weapons might be fielded.

My response [where is Seleka or CAR mentioned?]

South Africans and their warped sense of reasoning! It's more like asking where your SANDF has been with all the Rhinos in your National Parks being dehorned by Chinese poachers inside South Africa. With all your shiny weapons yet brutal crime is still the best hobby in all of South Africa? Stop playing silly games!

Please be useful to yourself.

Again your stupidity is a problem and your brain needs to be checked. Ask your SANDF where they were last weekend when over 44 people were murdered in Cape Town by gangs of the Cape Flats? Please don't overdo yourself.

Mike..ZA help yourself.

And ZetDee comes baiting!

So what would you say is the hobby of most Nigerians.

My simple response ...
Ask your brother Mike..ZA. But then why must you South Africans point out problems of Boko Haram terrorists yet feel offended when we point you to your own seriously embedded problem of brutal crimes in your beautiful South Africa? Like I said ... please don't start something you can't finish.

ZetDee still baiting ...

Can you imagine with all these problems we have with our own, Nigerians are doing the same in Banoni. The military should surely get involved, cause this looks like an invasion by Biafrans, Hillbrow, Sunnyside, now Banoni.

My calm response to ZetDee ...

Petty talk. You can do better! Use your God-given brain ...

Mike..ZA simply states his intentions here ... confirms point by myself and Chris365

My name sure tastes sweet in your mouth huh?.well I'm here to finish anything I might have started, which is getting to shut up cause you talk rubbish.

I see the usual comedians are back from forced vacation. Once more I'd hope you use your brains or continue on your comedy train!

Hezron Lorraine: Been too busy on NL and forgot to make mention of somethings.
There's still something fishy about the ryg guy.
First of,I was made to know that he's sending some encrypted messages to someone in Lagos.as at yesterday,he gave location of RYG to be in Gwer East,Benue state(longitude 7 •47' and 10•0'East,Latitude 6•28' and 8•0 ,North).
My bro tried checking for Numan Joseph Edwin and Augustine Vunomgabai.
He couldn't access NAF records without raising eyebrow from his boss cause he needs permission to run it through a senior source.
As at 2am.the connection on RYG's device went off.came back at 4.by 9am this morn, another set of encrypted message was sent, but this time, location was put at Iddo, lagos, the message was sent to someone in CBD,abuja.
Still following up,at precisely 1:40.connection went dead.by 2,location is Benue.
Seems someone is playing some serious games here and knows how to pull some stunts.
I know for sure that no federal security agent will expose a fellow member(aug) and they wouldn't come with a username that can be suspicious like RedYellowGreen.
Why this man decided to make use of nairaland open discussion to warn someone off is baffling, cause things are not what we see.

Relax ... bogus mindgame by the fellow!

And the fact goodluck wears a uniform when he goes on a parade makes him on the expert on the military, By monday we add deployed a infantry battalion and air support and if it were not for the french they would have been deployed into CAR that does not sound disorganised to me, the german army has a union and What orders were flouted?

Now you are stretching your initial question by some more kilometers. Listen! No one is talking about expertise. But if you want to talk about that, I think President Jonathan has better expertise than Zuma given all the military situation reports and briefings he receives regularly from our ever-busy Armed Forces engaged in operations around the continent and beyond. Even the greatest army generals that ever lived depended on expert advise from field commanders, war planners and subordinates. To the best of my knowledge, President Goodluck Jonathan and every other Nigerian leader before him have done a better job in the sphere of military decision making than your President Zuma, Mbeki and Mandela combined. Also, no president in democratic South Africa has been quite decisive and bold enough to command his army successfully to war on different fronts. What Zuma has not been able to achieve militarily... President Jonathan has achieved ... and continues to take our military to greater heights. That is why his uniform cannot be wished away by anyone! It is President Jonathans constitutional entitlement whether you like it or not!

We don't give excuses, we take charge of matters without looking back or blaming anyone. Stop blaming the Freanch!! South Africa will always find something negative to say about the French. You'll learn a lot by manning-up to your failure in CAR because honesty is the best policy. You know how Lindiwe Sisulu handled the violent rebellion by your lazy unionized soldiers? Your highly disorganised and disgraced SANDF are a recipe for mutiny in the ranks no matter how much you continue to "bash" French. The flouted orders not to rebel or embark on picketing and striking violently

O i trust our president but you have to earn the privilege to wear a uniform, and unless you in the military you don't have that privilege. Since you can not stand for office has a member of the SANDF no SA president will wear our uniform. You see SA is a true democracy were the military accept civilian control and does not need our president to play dress up for us to listen to him.

Liar! Majority of South Africans hate and do not trust Jacob Zuma and have even accused him of sending SANDF troops to CAR for personal business gains. Jonathan as Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria is a member of the military and will wear the uniform as and when he needs to. Nigeria's democracy raises the bar further by ensuring total respect for civilian rule/command. Obiviously Zuma is not worthy of wearing SANDF uniform ... and looking at SANDF's recent CAR disgrace do you still think that SANDF's uniform is worth wearing by any one (including Zuma)? Don't kill yourself about Jonathan's nice uniform please...

did you miss the part where i said paramilitary have military training?

I am glade zuma is not.

Good for South Africa and Jacob Zuma. Probably explains why there are no clear lines of authority in SA's CAR PK ops hence SANDF's disorganised response to a rag-tag Seleka selection? Does that also explain the unionized state of the SANDF (the only armed forces) where unions exist and where rank and file flout orders that ordinarily could amount to rebellion/treasonable felony in more serious armies?

Well, ours is a story of true democracy where the President is the custodian of powers to protect and defend Nigeria. We trust him ... but it's not our fault that you don't trust your President that much.

So tell me ... why are you glad? Just asking.

Paramilitary does not fall under the state military, hence they are not military. They security units with military training.

It's just like saying a paralegal personnel does not have "basic" legal training!

It's been a long day and I have basically answered your query. Should you not be satisfied ... then it's your headache. HE President Goodluck Jonathan is entitled to his military uniform in his capacity as Commander-In-Chief of Nigeria's Armed Forces.

A Commander-In-Chief of armed forces of a country (Nigeria) is entitled to wear uniform as appropriate for his office and duties! What do you call a civilian who is in charge of the armed forces? He is entitled to wear the uniform and rank of a General of the armed forces. Are you okay now?

Jonathan: Military, Petroleum Recipe for Technological Advancement

06 Jul 2013

President Goodluck Jonathan

By Muhammad Bello

Harnessing of the military prowess and the hydrocarbon endowments that Nigeria is blessed with are the two most essential ingredients the country should to pay attention to attain the zenith of development that would put it at par with other developed nations of the world.

President Goodluck Jonathan stated this Saturday at the 2013 Armed Forces Day held at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

President Jonathan expressed optimism that once the nation is able to manage these two factors, being propelled to the level of a 'technologically developed society' will be a logical progression.

Well, don't come showing those questionable tendencies of yours. Every Nigerian university graduate since 1973 undergoes Basic Paramilitary training. But that notwithstanding, by definition of his office and authority he Commands the entire armed forces of Nigeria.
