By Dr. Gideon Richard They wear suits, speak legalese, and claim to represent justice. But behind the courtroom doors, some public prosecutors are selling out Nigeria’s soul — case by case, bribe by bribe. We often point fingers at the police, the politicians, and even the judges. But have you looked at the people standing between crime and consequence? The very lawyers paid to protect justice — yet helping suspects escape it? Let’s call it what it is: Prosecutorial corruption is the justice system’s cancer. --- How It Works — And Why You Should Care Here’s the dirty playbook: They bury charges. Cases go cold. Dockets vanish. Charges “disappear” for a price. They throw the fight. In court, they forget evidence. Call no witnesses. Lose deliberately. They leak secrets. Suspects get tipped off. Evidence disappears. Witnesses go silent — or missing. They negotiate shady deals. Murderers get bail. Fraudsters return to politics. All “by the book.” Let that sink in: while victims cry for justice, their prosecutors are cashing in. --- The Cost of This Betrayal A child molester walks free because someone “lost the file.” A drug trafficker gets a light sentence — after “settling” the DPP. A corrupt politician avoids jail thanks to a sabotaged trial. Justice doesn’t just fail. It’s sold at auction to the highest bidder. --- Who Protects Us From the Prosecutors? Unlike police officers who face public scrutiny, corrupt prosecutors often work quietly behind the scenes. They hide under legal jargon and institutional silence. But you can’t reform justice while the gatekeepers are compromised. --- What Can Be Done? Audit prosecution files regularly. Let civil society and independent bodies track dropped cases. Create a whistleblower hotline for legal insiders. Good prosecutors exist — they need a way to speak up safely. Make plea deals public. No more secret arrangements behind courtroom doors. Prosecute the prosecutors. Let them face the same laws they betray. --- You have the right to justice — not just in theory, but in real life. Let’s stop pretending. Corruption isn’t just a system issue — it’s a people problem. And some of those people are sitting in prosecution offices, trading liberty for dirty cash. It’s time to expose the silent saboteurs. Justice must not be for sale. --- Share this if you believe Nigeria deserves a justice system that works. Would you trust a doctor who takes bribes to misdiagnose patients? Then why trust a prosecutor who lets criminals walk?

He was finally in the room with her. She heard his sharp intake of breath, the pleasing hum that followed. The heat of his body as he crossed the room and bent over her. Devoid of sight, it was like everything else, every other sense had been cranked up beyond 100, beyond normal. She could smell him. Not his cologne, but the laundry detergent they used. Faintly, his deodorant. She could sense the gentle examination he gave her. First one side of her body and then the other. With pressure that made her gasp, he pressed the pad of one finger to her sternum. Traced a line first down, between her breasts. Just having him that close they felt heavier, hotter, her nipples standing at aching points, already begging for his touch. His finger ventured back up, bringing a shiver along with it. It went first left and then right, smearing through the lipstick on her chest. It read, in big letters: USE ME. She’d used a bright red lipstick. It had come out in a slightly wobbly hand, but her own message was clear too: however you want, as much as you’d like. Any doubt that the man in front of her might not be her husband was erased when he laughed. She would know that laugh anywhere. Even when it was a rasping, dark, mocking thing. “Cute,” he said. “I think I’ll take you up on that.” He squeezed her nipple, making her yelp, then pant as he grabbed her whole breast, fingers tightening so she could finally feel the leather. Her instructions, delivered hours before, had been simple: Get ready. Wait for me. And now, he was here, his touch against her skin. Gloves. He was wearing gloves. The leather was smooth and supple as he played with her, as he pinched harder and harder until she arched toward him, gasping already, unsure whether she wanted to ask him for more or ask him to stop....read more |
