Getting the perfect gift for your love ones seems to be the most difficult aspect of the Christmas and New Year Period. What should you get your father? Will they like your gift or not? Is your gift too cheap or too expensive? Would your partner read too much meaning to your gift? These questions and a thousand more would continuously wander in your head. To most the Christmas and New Year period is a time to appreciate each other, a day to tell your loved ones that they are special to you. This is your guide to getting the perfect holiday gifts for the special people in your life. 1. Your Gift Should Be Personal Everybody on planet earth is totally different; we all have different likes and dislikes, one man’s meat is another man’s poison. The same principle applies to gifts, everybody has different tastes and it is your job to calculate what your loved ones would love for Christmas. Your friends might help you with ideas but you are the only one who can get your family members the perfect gift. So get a piece of paper, write out a list of things that your lover really like and find a way to bring out the gift that would make your lover smile for a whole week. 2. Your Gift Should Have A Story Behind It Your loved would probably forget what you got them for Xmas in about a few months time, except when the gift is really memorable, and a gift is only memorable if it connects with your loved ones. When choose a gift to your lover, you should ask yourself, how will I explain this gift to my father? What will I tell my sister is the reason behind buying this gift? You could say, “I bought this shoe for you because you’ve always wanted a black shoe” or “I bought this laptop battery for you because I noticed that your laptop battery doesn’t last long” Remember, your reason must be a positive one, and flattering too. You DON’T want your explanation to be anything like, “I bought you this book on how to make friends because you don’t have any.” NO! If you can’t think of a single positive, flattering reason why this particular gift is right for this specific person put it back on the shelf and walk away. “You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.” ― Amy Carmichael 3. Your Holiday Gift Should Cost You The rule is, the older the relationship, the more expensive the gift. We are not saying you should get them a car; neither are we saying you should get them a key-holder. A gift does not have to be expensive for it to cost you. All you have to do is make sure that you are sacrificing something for Christmas Day. The sacrifice must not be money; it could be your time, your creativity, or any huge sacrifice that would make your loved ones know that you really want them to know they mean a lot to you. 4. Don’t Buy A Gift Just Because You’d Like To Have It Yourself When you are buying a gift, remember it is not about you. Do not buy a gift because you like that gift, but because your loved ones would like it. You might end up buying a gift which your loved ones would never put to use, or put to use out of pity and or compulsion. Nobody wants that. 5. Watch Out For Gift Ideas Buy this time you should be paying close attention to everything your loved ones are saying. This is because if you are lucky enough you might hear them say something like “One of these days, i would REALLY love to buy a _______(fill in the blank)”. That, my friend, is your gift idea. If you are unable to get any gift idea out of them, as their friends and family what they’d like. The next time you visit your loved ones, pay attention to what is missing in their home 6. When All Else Fails After reading this, and you cannot decide on what to get your loved ones, you should just ask them what they would really like for this Holiday Season, yes, just ask. It is better for your loved to choose his/her Christmas/New Year gift, than for you to get them a horrible gift. “It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.” ― Mother Teresa Conclusion Keep in mind that the love and affection with which you are gifting is more important than cost of the gift. So don’t fuss over it too much What is the best/worst Christmas gift you have ever received. While it is very difficult to explain the rate of decadence amongst the indomie generation, some adults of are quick to blame technology. While technology has its awesome and bodacious benefits (What? We love Kung Fu Panda) the downsides are there. Some scientist are of the opinion that infants aged 0-2 years should not have any exposure to technology, 3-5 years be restricted to one hour per day, and 6-18 years restricted to 2 hours per day. Children and youth use 4-5 times the recommended amount of technology, with serious and often life threatening consequences. Handheld devices (cell phones, tablets, electronic games) have dramatically increased the accessibility and usage of technology, especially by very young children. Following are 10 awful things modern technology is doing to your kids. 1. Rapid brain growth Between 0 and 2 years, infant’s brains triple in size, and continue in a state of rapid development to 21 years of age. Early brain development is determined by environmental stimuli, or lack thereof. Stimulation to a developing brain caused by overexposure to technologies (cell phones, internet, iPads, TV), has been shown to be associated with executive functioning and attention deficit, cognitive delays, impaired learning, increased impulsivity and decreased ability to self-regulate. 2. Delayed Development Technology use restricts movement, which can result in delayed development. One in three children now enter school developmentally delayed, negatively impacting literacy and academic achievement. Movement enhances attention and learning ability. Use of technology under the age of 12 years is detrimental to child development and learning. 3. Epidemic Obesity TV and video game use correlates with increased obesity. Children who are allowed a device in their bedrooms have 30% increased incidence of obesity. 30% of children with obesity will develop diabetes, and obese individuals are at higher risk for early stroke and heart attack, gravely shortening life expectancy. Largely due to obesity, 21st century children may be the first generation many of whom will not outlive their parents 4. Sleep Deprivation 60% of parents do not supervise their child’s technology usage, and 75% of children are allowed technology in their bedrooms. 75% of children aged 9 and 10 years are sleep deprived to the extent that their grades are detrimentally impacted. 5. Mental Illness Technology overuse is implicated as a causal factor in rising rates of child depression, anxiety, attachment disorder, attention deficit, autism, bipolar disorder, psychosis and problematic child behavior (Bristol University 2010, Mentzoni 2011, Shin 2011,Liberatore 2011, Robinson 2008). One in six Canadian children have a diagnosed mental illness, many of whom are on dangerous psychotropic medication. 6. Aggression Violent media content can cause child aggression. Young children are increasingly exposed to rising incidence of physical and sexual violence in today’s media. “Grand Theft Auto V” portrays explicit sex, murder, rape, torture and mutilation, as do many movies and TV shows. Media reports increased use of restraints and seclusion rooms with children who exhibit uncontrolled aggression. 7. Digital dementia High speed media content can contribute to attention deficit, as well as decreased concentration and memory, due to the brain pruning neuronal tracks to the frontal cortex. Children who can’t pay attention can’t learn. 8. Addictions As parents attach more and more to technology, they are detaching from their children. In the absence of parental attachment, detached children can attach to devices, which can result in addiction. One in 11 children aged 8-18 years are addicted to technology. 9. Radiation emission In May of 2011, the World Health Organization classified cell phones (and other wireless devices) as a category 2B risk (possible carcinogen) due to radiation emission. James McNamee with Health Canada in October of 2011 issued a cautionary warning stating “Children are more sensitive to a variety of agents than adults as their brains and immune systems are still developing, so you can’t say the risk would be equal for a small adult as for a child.”. In December, 2013 Dr. Anthony Miller from the University of Toronto’s School of Public Health recommend that based on new research, radio frequency exposure should be reclassified as a 2A (probable carcinogen), not a 2B (possible carcinogen). American Academy of Pediatrics requested review of EMF radiation emissions from technology devices, citing three reasons regarding impact on children. 10. Unsustainable The ways in which children are raised and educated with technology are no longer sustainable. Children are our future, but there is no future for children who overuse technology. A team-based approach is necessary and urgent in order to reduce the use of technology by children. What is the Solution? Spend quality time with your kids, teach them what they need to survive in this cruel world because if you don’t, then the likes of Wizkid, Phyno, Lil Wayne will teach them how to dress, walk and talk, show thwhat is “cool” and what is not “cool”, that is if online predators do not get to them first. This article is advocating for reduced use of technology for growing kids. Technology has its upsides but the downsides should not be ignored. What are your thoughts? Islam, Muslims and the Quran have become a major concern to Nigerians, especially after the emergence of Boko Haram. The misconceptions are so bad that not everybody from the Northern part of Nigeria is a Muslim and not every Muslim is from the northern part of the country. In reality, there is a good population of Christians in the north, even in Borno and Adamawa, there are numerous communities that are predominantly Christians. Muslims indigenes in Edo, Kwara, Kogi and some South-Eastern states is not a rare sight. 1. TERRORISTS ARE PROMISED 72 VIRGIN WOMEN WHEN THEY DIE The “72 virgins” idea is probably the most overblown idea that people seem to remember about Islam. It’s turning into a real stereotype. There is no promise of 72 virgins for martyrs, terrorists or suicide bombers anywhere in the Quran. In fact committing Suicide is a Major Sin Amongst the many verses against suicide here is one that makes it very clear that the taking of one’s life is strongly prohibited and that there is no reward for anyone who does that. But let there be amongst you Traffic and trade by mutual good-will: Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves: for verily God hath been to you Most Merciful! If any do that in rancour and injustice,- soon shall We cast them into the Fire: And easy it is for God. Qur’an 4:29 – 4:30 2. MUSLIMS HATE JESUS Many people are amazed to find out that according to Muslim belief, Jesus is one of the greatest messengers of God. One cannot be a Muslim without believing in the virgin birth and the many miracles of Jesus Christ. Jesus is also mentioned in many verses of the Quran and is often used as an example of good virtue and character. However, the main difference between Christianity and Islam is that Muslims do not believe that Jesus was God. 3. CHILDREN HAVE NO RIGHTS IN ISLAM When the idea of children in Islam comes to your mind the first image that pops ups is a child begging on the street or how awful they are treated in Islamic schools. Children, according to Islamic law, have various rights. One of these is the right to be properly brought up, raised, and educated. Islam encourages children to be brought up well because it is the responsibility of an adult to raise his child to become a moral and ethical adult. Children must also be treated equally. When giving financial gifts they should all be the same amount and there should be no preference among them. Children are even permitted to take moderately from their parent’s wealth to sustain themselves if the parent declines to give them proper funds for living. A child is also not allowed to get hit in the face or hit by anything larger than a pencil 4. ISLAM IS INTOLERABLE TO OTHER RELIGIONS ‘Kill the infidel’ is the phrase many people believe is the ideology that Muslims have towards the non Muslims. This, though, is not a correct portrayal of Islamic law. Islam has always given respect and freedom of religion to all faiths. In the Quran it says “God does not forbid you, with regards to those who fight you not for religion nor drive you away out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them, for god loves those who are just.” There are many historical examples of Muslim tolerance towards other faith. One such example was when the caliph Umar was ruler of Jerusalem from 634 to 644 AD. He granted freedom to all religious communities and said that the inhabitants of his city were safe and that their places of worship would never be taken away from them. He also set up courts that were designated to the non Muslim minorities. Whenever he would visit holy areas he would ask for the Christian patriarch Sophronius to accompany him. 5. JIHAD MEANS TO FIGHT FOR THE SAKE OF GOD The true Arabic meaning of the word jihad is struggle. However in Islam it is often used to describe the striving in the way of god. There are many forms of jihad but the most important ones are Jihad al-nafs (jihad against ones self), jihad bil-lisan (jihad by being vocal), jihad bil yad (jihad by using action), and Jihad bis saif (jihad by using the sword). Each jihad is ranked differently and it was reported that Muhammad returned from a battle and said “We have returned from the lesser jihad (going into battle) to the greater jihad (the struggle of the soul).” This means that a Muslim struggling against himself and his soul is more important than the jihad of going into war. Another misconception is that only when a person dies in war does that person becomes a martyr. This is, however, false and it is believed that anyone doing anything for the sake of god and is killed becomes a martyr. A person who dies while performing pilgrimage in Mecca, a woman who dies while giving birth, or even someone who dies in a car crash while he was on his way to the mosque are all considered martyrs. 6. MUSLIMS ARE SAVAGES AND BARBARIC DURING WAR Quite the contrary, when it comes to the conduct of war there are ten rules that every Muslim army must obey: 1. Do not commit treachery 2. Do not deviate from the right path 3. Do not mutilate dead bodies 4. Do not kill children 5. Do not kill women 6. Do not kill aged men 7. Do not harm or burn trees 8. Do not destroy buildings 9. Do not destroy an enemy’s flock, unless you use it for your food 10. When you pass people who have devoted their lives to monastic services leave them alone 7. ISLAM AND TERRORISM This is by far the biggest misconception of Islam, given unfairly by stereotyping and the public image that the media gives. Has anyone else noticed how when a specific group of people attack another group of people it is labeled as a ‘hate crime’, but when a Muslim opens fire on anybody it is quickly regarded as ‘terrorism’. Many political dictators and officials or extremist groups use the name of Islam as a strategy to garner followers and attention when many of their practices go against the true basis of Islam. However all over the world people practice Islam in the true form and use it as a way of life. There are many verses in the Quran that go against the idea of terrorism. Some of these verses include “fight in the way of Allah those that fight you but do not transgress limits for god does not love transgressors.” This basically means do not fight except in self defense and even in doing so do not go beyond defense. Another verse states “if they seek peace, then you seek peace,” which means do not attack people for no reason or kill innocent people. There is nowhere in Islam, whether it be in the Quran or the teachings of Muhammad, that promotes the killing of innocent people. 8. ISLAM ALLOWS STONING TO DEATH Some think that ‘stoning to death’ is a punishment laid out in The Quran or promoted by Islam for acts such as adultery. The Quran never sanctions stoning to death as a punishment for anyone. In fact, the only time it is mentioned in The Quran is as a threat to believers from non-believers: 11:91, 18:20, 19:46, 36:18, 44:20, 26:116 Also, the misconception of ‘stoning to death’ as punishment for adultery is disproved by the Quran. According to the Quran, the punishment for proven adultery is lashes [24:2]. Furthermore, this punishment is halved for formerly slave woman due to their past circumstance [4:25]. Since half ‘stoning to death’ is not possible, this indicates ‘stoning to death’ for adultery is not permitted. Interestingly, in many popular translations of The Quran, for verse 24:3 they state an adulterer can only marry another adulterer, but if stoning to death for adultery was a punishment, this translation would be unnecessary and illogical. Stoning to death as a punishment for adultery is from traditional narrations (called “hadith”) attributed to the prophet Muhammad, as recorded by later generations. 9. ALLAH IS THE GOD FOR MUSLIMS Some think that the word “Allah” refers to a special God for use by Muslims only. Arabic like Aramaic and Hebrew, is a Semitic language. The word that described God in Aramaic was pronounced “AaLaH” or “AaLoH”. In Hebrew it was “Eloah” or “Elohim”, and in Arabic is “Allah”, which is considered a conjunction of “Al-ilah”, which is Arabic for “The-God” in English. The English word “God” describes the same entity. Remember that the language spoken by Jesus when he was alive was Aramaic, thereby leaving a possibility that he pronounced God as “AaLah” or “AaLoH”. Besides Hausa’s and Arabs (Yes, some Arabs are Christians) refer to God as Allah. It does not make them any less of a Christian from you. 10.MUHAMMAD WAS THE FOUNDER OF ISLAM Some think that a man named Muhammad from Arabia was the first to introduce Islam or it came into existence with him and The Quran. The word “islam” can be translated as “surrender/submission” (to God). A “muslim” can be translated as “one who surrenders/submits” (to God). According to The Quran, everything in the universe, willingly or unwillingly has ultimately surrendered to God, thus the basic concept of islam/surrender/submission is as old as the universe itself: [3:83] The Quran clearly states that Muhammad was a messenger and inspired just as the prophets before him:. [4:163] [3:84] [3:144] [3:79] Also, The Quran specifically mentions the term “muslim” for those before prophet Muhammad, including: Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Jacob, and the companions of Jesus. [see 2:128, 2:131, 3:67, 3:52, 5:111, 10:72]. Thus, the prophet Muhammad was not the founder of islam/submission, but simply continued this universal message as one of many messengers of God. In August he said he would invest $1 billion in commercial rice farming and modern rice mills. Do you want to have children, and if so, when? How many? How important is religion to you? Could you survive in household where there are two different, perhaps disparate views on religion? Are you gonna eat that? Are we going to allow our relative live with us? How close will we be to your parents? OK, well, can I at least have half? Do you like my friends? Do you expect me to hang out with your friends often? How will we divide up money? How will we tackle debt? How will we decide what to save? How important is equality in a marriage? I just don’t understand why you won’t give me half—like, I know it’s a good sharwarma, but can I at least have a BITE?! If we ever hit a rough patch, would you be willing to partake in couples’ therapy? Oh my god, this has a tomato on it. Why would you let me eat this?! What will our morning routine be? Our evening routine? How will we divide household chores? You’re really being super rude right now. Do you need to take a nap? Are we able to openly talk about our sexual needs and preferences? Do you see us traveling often? Where will we spend the holidays? What the hell is bugging you? What do you mean, you’ve been reading my text messages? Those are private! I gave you my passcode six months ago and you held onto it this entire time?? Where do you want to settle down? Where do you want to retire? How much affection do you require in a given day? Why don’t you trust me?! Do you like animals? Do you want a pet? Will we donate to charity? Do you think it’s ok for me to read your text messages behind my back? Public or private school? Will we celebrate cultural holidays? Do you have a plan to care for your parents? No, I don’t really think you are a “uptight insecure sandwich hog.” Don’t you say things to blow off steam, too?! Have we been honest with each other about our health histories? Is there anything we should prepare for? If we were able to live off of one salary, do you think one of us should stay home and raise our family? When have I ever not shared my sharwarma with you? When have I ever liked tomatoes?! Would you ever serve in the military? Are you afraid of getting older? Do you think that maybe we’re not right for each other after all? Have you ever committed a crime? What is your political stance? Do you want to just eat the tomato-y part and I’ll eat the rest? PDP or APC? What other questions do you think should be asked before getting married? A date usually consists of social activities done by two people with the aim of assessing the other’s suitability as a partner in an intimate relationship. It entails two people meeting and engaging in some mutually agreed social activity, in public, together, as a couple, who may or may not yet be having sexual relations. The main reason normal healthy people to go on a date and is to assess your partner and know if they are datable or not. Any other reason would mean that it is not a date. You should not go on a date …. 1. If You Are In a Relationship This is actually a no brainer. If you are in a relationship, you are not allowed to go out on a date with somebody that is not your lover. Why are we even talking about this? Going on a date when you are in a relationship is like attending job interviews when you have a job. It only shows that you do not like your present job and you want out. What could possibly go wrong? You would only lose your current lover and the “prospective lover” would not work out. In case we forgot, going out on a date when you are in a relationship is flat out cheating. 2. Because You Are Hungry A date in not an opportunity to eat chicken, shawarma, nkwobi and every other meal that you normally eat once in a year – and it’s usually Christmas. Except if the word self-respect means nothing to you, please by all means you should feed off every Adamu, Emeka and Olawale that asks you out on a date. If you do not like the guy, just say it and dont put a hole in his pocket. 3. Just To Kill Time If you are bored, there are a lot of things you could do instead of putting a fellow human through the stress of preparing for a date just so you can get a toy to keep you busy. Playing with the time, emotion and hopes of another human is not fun. How would you feel if you were interviewed for a job just because the interviewer was bored and needed someone to keep him company? sorry about the job interview analogy, its the best we can come up with right now 4. If You Are Feeling Sick If you are not feeling fine then you should just cancel your date, even if you really like this person. If you are on medication, remember a not-so-funny side effect could kick in. And when we say not-so-funny, we mean the side effects could range from unannounced stooling, nasal drip, phlegm or uncontrollable flatulence. Worse still, your sickness could be infectious and you end up getting your partner sick If you’re sick, stay home. Seriously. Arrange for a new date when you are feeling better. 5. Out Of Desperation Remember that time you were so hungry you were ready to eat almost anything as long as it would not kill you. This happens in the dating world also. Being desperate can make you do a lot of silly things, like make you consider just anybody as a viable dating option. Just anybody includes your next door neighbor whom you are so sure would die a virgin. Like a wise guru would say, never let desperation lead you into the arms of the wrong person. The theory that the moon landings were hoaxed by the US government to assert their victory in the space race over Russia, is something which has grown in popularity over time. This list presents some of the proposed evidence to suggest that the moon landings were hoaxes. We tried to include NASA’s explanations to each entry to provide an objective perspective. 10. The Waving Flag Conspiracy theorists have pointed out that when the first moon landing was shown on live television, viewers could clearly see the American flag waving and fluttering as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin planted it. Photos of the landing also seem to show rippling in a breeze. The obvious problem here is that there’s no air in the moon’s atmosphere, and therefore no wind to cause the flag to blow. Countless explanations have been put forward to disprove this phenomenon as anything unusual: NASA claimed that the flag was stored in a thin tube and the rippled effect was caused by it being unfurled before being planted. Other explanations involve the ripples caused by the reaction force of the astronauts touching the aluminum pole, which is shown to shake in the video footage. 9. Lack of Impact Crater The claim goes as follows: had NASA really landed us on the moon, there would be a blast crater underneath the lunar module to mark its landing. On any video footage or photograph of the landings, no crater is visible, almost as though the module was simply placed there. The surface of the moon is covered in fine lunar dust, and even this doesn’t seem to have been displaced in photographic evidence. Much like the waving flag theory, however, the lack of an impact crater has a slew of potential explanations. NASA maintains that the module required significantly less thrust in the low-gravity conditions than it would have done on Earth. The surface of the moon itself is solid rock, so a blast crater probably wouldn’t be feasible anyway – in the same way that an aeroplane doesn’t leave a crater when it touches down on a concrete airstrip. 8 Multiple Light Sources On the moon there is only one strong light source: the Sun. So it’s fair to suggest that all shadows should run parallel to one another. But this was not the case during the moon landing: videos and photographs clearly show that shadows fall in different directions. Conspiracy theorists suggest that this must mean multiple light sources are present -suggesting that the landing photos were taken on a film set. NASA has attempted to blame uneven landscape on the strange shadows, with subtle bumps and hills on the moon’s surface causing the discrepancies. This explanation has been tossed out the window by some theorists; how could hills cause such large angular differences? In the image above the lunar module’s shadow clearly contradicts that of the rocks in the foreground at almost a 45 degree angle. 7 The Van Allen Radiation Belt In order to reach the moon, astronauts had to pass through what is known as the Van Allen radiation belt. The belt is held in place by Earth’s magnetic field and stays perpetually in the same place. The Apollo missions to the moon marked the first ever attempts to transport living humans through the belt. Conspiracy theorists contend that the sheer levels of radiation would have cooked the astronauts en route to the moon, despite the layers of aluminum coating the interior and exterior of the spaceship. NASA have countered this argument by emphasizing the short amount of time it took the astronauts to traverse the belt – meaning they received only very small doses of radiation. 6. The Unexplained Object After photographs of the moon landings were released, theorists were quick to notice a mysterious object (shown in the original article) in the reflection of an astronaut’s helmet from the Apollo 12 mission. The object appears to be hanging from a rope or wire and has no reason to be there at all, leading some to suggest it is an overhead spotlight typically found in film studios. The resemblance is questionable, given the poor quality of the photograph, but the mystery remains as to why something is being suspended in mid-air (or rather lack of air) on the moon. The lunar module in other photos appears to have no extension from it that matches the photo, so the object still remains totally unexplained. 5. Slow-Motion Walking and Hidden Cables In order to support claims that the moon landings were shot in a studio, conspiracy theorists had to account for the apparent low-gravity conditions, which must have been mimicked by NASA. It has been suggested that if you take the moon landing footage and increase the speed of the film x2.5, the astronauts appear to be moving in Earth’s gravity. As for the astronaut’s impressive jump height, which would be impossible to perform in Earth’s gravity, hidden cables and wires have been suggested as giving the astronauts some extra height. In some screenshots outlines of alleged hidden cables can be seen (as shown in the original article, though it is extremely vague). 4 Lack of Stars One compelling argument for the moon landing hoax is the total lack of stars in any of the photographic/video evidence. There are no clouds on the moon, so stars are perpetually visible and significantly brighter than what we see through the filter of Earth’s atmosphere. The argument here is that NASA would have found it impossible to map out the exact locations of all stars for the hoax without being rumbled, and therefore left them out – intentionally falling back on an excuse that the quality of the photographs washes them out (an excuse they did actually give). Some photographs are high-quality, however, and yet still no stars are shown. Certainly eerie, considering you can take pictures of stars from Earth in much lower quality and still see them. 3 The “C” Rock One of the most famous photos from the moon landings shows a rock in the foreground, with what appears to be the letter “C” engraved into it. The letter appears to be almost perfectly symmetrical, meaning it is unlikely to be a natural occurrence. It has been suggested that the rock is simply a prop, with the “C” used as a marker by an alleged film crew. A set designer could have turned the rock the wrong way, accidentally exposing the marking to the camera. NASA has given conflicting excuses for the letter, on the one hand blaming a photographic developer for adding the letter as a practical joke, while on the other hand saying that it may simply have been a stray hair which got tangled up somewhere in the developing process. 2 The Layered Cross-hairs The cameras used by astronauts during the moon landings had a multitude of cross-hairs to aid with scaling and direction. These are imprinted over the top of all photographs. Some of the images, however, clearly show the cross-hairs behind objects in the scene, implying that photographs may have been edited or doctored after being taken. The photograph shown above is not an isolated occurrence. Many objects are shown to be in front of the cross-hairs, including the American flag in one picture and the lunar rover in another. Conspiracy theorists have suggested NASA printed the man-made objects over a legitimate photograph of the moon to hoax the landings – although if they really planned on doing this, then why they used cross-hairs in the first place is a mystery. 1 The Duplicate Backdrop The two photos from the Apollo 15 mission shown above clearly have identical backdrops, despite being officially listed by NASA as having been taken miles apart. One photo even shows the lunar module. When all photographs were taken the module had already landed, so how can it possibly be there for one photo and disappear in another? Well, if you’re a hardcore conspiracy theorist, it may seem viable that NASA simply used the same backdrop when filming different scenes of their moon landing videos. NASA has suggested that since the moon is much smaller than Earth, horizons can appear significantly closer to the human eye. Despite this, to say that the two hills visible in the photographs are miles apart is incontrovertibly false. Bonus The Stanley Kubrick Theory This loose extension of the popular conspiracy theory states that acclaimed film director Stanley Kubrick was approached by the US government to hoax the first three moon landings. There are two main branches of this somewhat implausible theory: one group of believers maintain that Kubrick was approached after he released 2001: A Space Odyssey (released in 1968, one year before the first moon landing), after NASA came to appreciate the stunning realism of the film’s outer-space scenes at that time; another group contends that Kubrick was groomed by the government to film the moon landing long before this, and that 2001: A Space Odyssey was a staged practice run for him. So what evidence might support such claims? Well: apparently, if you watch The Shining (another Kubrick picture), you can pick up on some alleged messages hidden by Kubrick to subtly inform the world of his part in the conspiracy. The most obvious is the child’s Apollo 11 shirt worn in only one scene. Another supposed gem is the line written on Jack Nicholson’s character’s typewriter: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, in which the word “all” can be interpreted as A11, or Apollo 11. If you aren’t convinced yet, Kubrick made the mysterious hotel room in the film number 237. Guess how many miles it is from here to the moon: 238,000. So divide that by a thousand and minus one, and you’ve got one airtight theory right there. http://giftedgreen.com/2014/blog/2014/11/17/10-reasons-the-united-states-could-have-faked-the-moon-landing/ |

After a stressful day, sleep is undeniably the best thing that could ever to ever happen to you. It’s that wonderful moment the conscious part of you goes to wonderland and your brain just won’t take a break, instead it goes into overdrive and occupies itself with producing vivid, sensual and sometime scary dreams that take place during rapid-eye-movement stage of your sleep. As humans, we do not fully understand sleep, neither do we fully comprehend dreams either, but we are not totally in the dark either. Let’s see some answers to some of your pressing questions about dreams. 1. Who Are These Strange People In Your Dream? The human brain is responsible for many complex creations, but it can’t invent the image of people. So the “strangers” that you meet in your dreams actually have the faces of people who you’ve once seen in your real life but forgotten, like a random student from your primary school or that guy bumped into on the side walk that one time. You’ve probably seen hundreds of thousands of people from birth so it goes without saying that the brain as a huge cast of characters to play with when you drift off to sleep. 2. Is It Possible For Blind People To Dream? While people who lost their eyesight prior to age five usually do not have visual dreams in adulthood, they still dream. Despite the lack of visuals, the dreams of the blind are just as complex and vivid as those of the sighted. Instead of visual sensations, blind individuals’ dreams typically include information from the other senses such as sound, touch, taste, hearing and smell. 3. Why Do We Even Dream? Scientists have long wondered why we dream, with answers ranging from Sigmund Freud’s idea that dreams fulfill our wishes to the speculation that these wistful journeys are just a side effect of rapid-eye-movement (REM) sleep. Recent Studies revealed that our slumbering hours may help us solve puzzles that have plagued us during daylight hours. The visual and often illogical aspects of dreams make them perfect for the out-of-the-box thinking that is necessary to solve some problems. The research also states that, while dreams may have originally evolved for another purpose, they have likely been refined over time for multiple tasks, including helping the brain reboot and helping us solve problems. 4. Why Can’t I Remember My Dream, Efficiently? What if we told you that you normally have 4 to 6 dreams every night. Those numbers times 365 days in one year makes for between 1,460 and 2,190 dreams every year. “Wait a minute, I don’t remember having 4 different dreams in one night, and I certainly don’t remember having over 1,000 dreams this year.” That’s what you said, right? The fact of the matter is, we forget 90% of them within 10 minutes of waking up, and you between 95% to 99% by the end of the day. You can say goodbye to what you did to Tiwa Savage in your dream. 5. Why Are Dreams So Difficult To Remember? According to one theory, the changes in the brain that occur during sleep do not support the information processing and storage needed for memory formation to take place. Brain scans of sleeping individuals have shown that the frontal lobes, the area that plays a key role in memory formation, are inactive during REM sleep, the stage in which dreaming occurs. Others believe that most of your dreams don’t really interest you enough to make you want to remember them. Dreams are commonplace and don’t require enough concentration to force you to remember them. In that sense, they are similar to other routine actions you do throughout the day like driving or tying your shoes. You don’t remember most of the time you do those things either. 6. Do Animals Dream? Animals Probably Dream. Have you ever watched a sleeping dog wag its tail or move its legs while asleep? While it’s hard to say for sure whether the animal is truly dreaming, researchers believe that it is likely that animals do indeed dream. Just like humans, animals go through sleep stages that include cycles of REM and NREM sleep. In one study, a gorilla was taught sign language as a means of communication. At one point, the gorilla signed “sleep pictures,” possibly indicating the experience of dreaming. 7. Is There A Way To Record My Dreams Using Technology? You might soon be able to upload your dreams to YouTube! Scientists at UC Berkeley have achieved a major milestone in their quest to create a technology that would let us tap into our brain’s imaging systems. They used functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and computational models and they succeeded in decoding and reconstructing visual experiences of their test subjects. The tests they ran had people watching a movie trailer. Then, they reconstructed the images using their new technology. While that’s as far as they can do right now, it puts them one step closer to being able to tap into your dreams. The more noble implications for this technology will allow some sort of understanding, and even communication with people who cannot communicate verbally. For example, stroke victims, and people in comas. 8. What Happens To My Body When I Sleep? When you dream, your body is paralyzed. In the first 90 minutes of sleep, you go through deepening stages ranging from light sleep to deep sleep. Then you enter a phase called REM sleep (REM is short for Rapid Eye Movement) During REM sleep, the rest of your body essentially becomes paralyzed. The release of certain neurotransmitters is shut down and your large muscles do not move. Some people have abnormal REM sleep in which those neurotransmitters do not shut down, and they act out their dreams. Most of the dreams we vividly remember happen during REM, as our brain has higher activity during this phase. 9. What Is The Most Common Dream? Since we’ve established that we all dream . . . a lot. It might surprise you to know that during a typical lifetime, people spend an average of six years dreaming! What is the most common dream? Simple answer: Your spouse is cheating. If you’ve ever woken up in a cold sweat after dreaming about your husband’s extramarital escapade with your best friend, you’re not alone, says Lauri Quinn Loewenberg, a dream expert, author and media personality. “The most commonly reported dream is the one where your mate is cheating,” she says. Loewenberg conducted a survey of more than 5,000 people, and found that the infidelity dream is the nightmare that haunts most people—sometimes on a recurring basis. It rarely has anything to do with an actual affair, she explains, but rather the common and universal fear of being wronged or left alone. 10. Is it Possible For Somebody Not To Dream At All? Except for in the case of extreme psychological disorder, every human being dreams. In fact, in a recent study, students who were awakened at the beginning of each dream but still allowed 8 hours of sleep, all experienced difficulty concentrating, irritability, hallucinations, and signs of psychosis in a span of three days. When they were allowed their REM sleep, their brains compensated for the lost time by increasing the percentage of the sleep spent in the REM stage. Its official, you might go crazy if you don’t dream. Bonus: Can Any Good Come Out Of Dreams? You’ve probably heard of inventions that have been inspired by mistakes, you probably haven’t heard of those inspired by dreams. Dreams are responsible for many of the greatest inventions of mankind. A few examples include: -The idea for Google -Larry Page -Alternating current generator -Tesla -DNA’s double helix spiral form -James Watson -The sewing machine -Elias Howe -Periodic table -Dimitri Mendeleyev What are your thoughts? Allow me to rephrase "Will you marry your parents siblings child?" Why are we even discussing this? |
It might seem funny to the female folks but it is highly embarrassing to the male folks all over the world. It is something every male has to deal with on a regular basis. What does science have to say about the unnecessary attention (pun intended) you receive every morning. Lets find out Morning Wood, or nocturnal penile tumescence (NPT) as they are correctly called, are spontaneous erections that occur during sleep or while waking up. Every man (no, you are not alone) without erectile dysfunction are graced with them and they normally occur around three to five times during sleep. NPT actually starts in utero, or in the womb (seriously), and continues throughout life. If it’s any consolation, men aren’t completely alone—women also get clitoral erections and vaginal engorgement during sleep, and various nonhuman mammals also get NPT. While a few different theories have been proposed over the years to explain NPT, what causes it still remains uncertain. NPT, just like clitoral erections, is associated with REM(rapid eye movement) sleep. They usually pop up (pun intended) during periods of Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep (when most dreaming occurs) and last around 30 minutes each. Unrelated to dream content, they are both common and completely normal and men older than sixty years may even have them during non-REM sleep. While in REM sleep, your body turns off some neurotransmitters to regulate body functions. And one of those neurotransmitters, Norepinephrine, is the one in charge of stopping erections. Basically, when REM decreases the Norepinephrine levels, testosterone is free to pump blood into the area and cause your sleep erection. In addition to making for wonderful middle school jokes, morning wood is actually important because it pushes extra oxygen into the region, and helps keep your penis healthy and functional. It’s also been suggested that NPT is triggered by the release of nitric oxide (NO). NO is released by cells that line the inside of blood vessels which then diffuses into smooth muscle, causing it to relax. This also causes blood vessels to dilate, hence increasing blood flow to the penis and voila, an erection. It’s thought that increased activity of part of the pons during REM sleep triggers a cascade of events that ultimately lead to NO release by nerve fibers. This is also regulated by androgens such as testosterone. So we have discussed how, but what about why? One idea is that these sleep exercises actually contribute to the health of your junk. Erections cause the erectile tissue to swell, which in turn oxygenates the tissue. This oxygenation maintains its viability and helps to prevent cavernous fibrosis, a condition that can ultimately lead to erectile dysfunction. Another interesting theory is that pitching a tent prevents men from wetting the bed. There are two main types of erections: psychogenic and reflex. The former starts with stimulating thoughts or images which trigger an erection via nerve signals. The latter is an involuntary process that occurs without sexy thoughts and it’s believed that a full bladder can trigger them. The nerves controlling these reflex erections are located in the sacral nerves of the spinal cord which are also stimulated by a full bladder. Since it’s difficult to pee with a stiffy, it’s thought that NPT may prevent accidental nocturnal enuresis (bed wetting). While this may sound plausible, it seems unlikely because the body has lots of other methods to prevent you from wetting the bed. Furthermore, it doesn’t really make sense given that nocturnal enuresis also affects women. It seems the most likely explanation is that all of that nighttime mischief is really helping to keep your little man healthy. Be pleased he’s looking out for you. http://giftedgreen.com/2014/blog/2014/11/11/science-explains-why-men-get-erections-in-the-morning/ |

Males Can Get Ere.cti.ons While In The Womb Fetuses as young as 16 weeks have been spotted with teensy protuberances that rise and fall throughout gestation, according to studies. Scientists aren’t sure why this happens, but one theory, is that these periodic movements help the penile tissue stay oxygenated and healthy and another suggests that the ere.cti.on is a way of tuning up the males nervous system. In fact, babies of both sexes are known to mas.tur.bat.e in utero, but boys are the only ones who can be caught while aroused on the sonogram. Our question is, why are scientists looking at the ere.cti.on of unborn child? 2. Men Have Bigger Brains Than Women For a very long time, people suspected that the male and female brains are very different. Researchers at Cambridge University have revealed just what those differences are. By studying over 20 years of neuroscience research, they were able to create a map showing just how the sexes differ. It found that males on average have larger total brain volumes than women, by 8-13%. This is because men generally have a larger stature and more muscle mass than women; their brains require more neurons to control the body Scientists also discovered than men’s and women’s brains actually function somewhat differently. When focused on a task, men tend to use only one side of their brain at a time, devoting all of their attention and concentration to the task at hand. Women, on the other hand, tend to use both sides of the brain at the same time, making them more adept at “multi-tasking. 3. All Men Start As Females In The Womb For approximately the first six weeks after conception, all human embryos develop as a default female child, primarily taking genetic information from the mother Only after about 60 days does the hormone testosterone kick in (for those of us with a Y chromosome), changing the genetic activity of cells in the genitals and brain. After the sixth week of development, if the embryo is male, the Y chromosome will begin to produce androgens, primarily testosterone, that encourage the development of male characteristics and inhibit the further development of female characteristics. This is the reason why men have ni.pp.les, by the sixth week you already have nipples and there is no way nature is making you get rid of them In many male mammals ni.pp.le formation is stunted by hormones, but not in humans. The question now is: can men produce milk? Did prehistoric men nurse their young? 4. Some Men Can Produce Milk As said earlier, for the first several weeks a developing embryo follows a “female blueprint,” from reproductive organs to ni.pp.les. Men don’t typically produce milk from their br.ea.st.s. But under certain circumstances, they can. For instance, extreme starvation, hormone treatments for various health problems, and mechanical stimulation, can lead to lactating lads. This phenomenon is different from gynecomastia, male br.ea.st enlargement due to imbalances in testosterone and estrogen. An Article published in 1995 shows that male and female cancer patients being treated with estrogen started to lactate when injected with prolactin (a hormone known to stimulate br.ea.st development and milk production in women). Studies have also shown male lactation can also occur when tranquilizers disrupt the function of the hypothalamus — a region of the brain that controls the pituitary gland, the source of prolactin. So the next time you start producing milk, don’t freak out. 5. Boy Babies Are More Likely To Die In Infancy Every male reading this should be happy to be alive. This is because you were 25% more likely to die than your female counterparts when you were an infant. Male infants are more likely to die than female infants, a fact that is partially responsible for men’s shorter life spans. Research has shown that boys are 60 percent more likely to be premature and to suffer from conditions arising from being born premature, such as respiratory distress syndrome. Males also at a higher risk of birth injury and mortality due to their larger body and head size. The researchers said baby boys are more vulnerable because their bigger size raises the risk of a difficult birth, they are more likely to be born prematurely and they also have weaker immune systems. 6. Circumcision Reduces The Risk HIV Infection The foreskin, which is removed during circumcision, has some debate about all of the functions of foreskin, but the World Health Organization (WHO) states that uncircumcised men have a greater risk of contracting HIV. Cells called Langerhans cells found in the mucous membrane of the foreskin are susceptible to HIV infection and can serve as a point of entry to the body for the virus. WHO studies have shown that circumcision reduces the risk of heterosexually acquired HIV in men by 60 percent. 7. Half Of The Pe.ni.s Is In The Body Are you among the group of men who are dissatisfied with the size of their little man? Well, would it help if you were told that the size of your junk is twice the size you see? That is, if you measure three inches, it is actually six inches. If you measure five inches, it is actually ten inches. That’s because half the length of the penis is inside your body. Just like you don’t see all of a big oak tree above ground, you don’t see the root of your penis tucked up inside your pelvis and attached to your pubic bone. As seen in an MRI picture, an erect pe.ni.s is shaped like a boomerang. 8. You Can Break Your P.eni.s Given that there are no bones in the p.eni.s, can it really break? It turns out there is an unfortunate injury termed “penile fracture” that can indeed occur during se.xu.al intercourse. Most mammals have a bone called the baculum or os pe.ni.s in the pe.ni.s, but it is absent in humans and horses. Although there are no bones in a human pe.ni.s, a man can still suffer from penile fracture, which is when the thick membrane surrounding the erectile tissue tears. There is usually a “cracking” sound, an immediate loss of er.ec.ti.on, and a great deal of pain. In extreme cases, the urethra can be damaged, which affects the ability to urinate. Ouch. . . For everybody who turns se.xu.al intercourse into a session of acrobatics, be warned. 9. Te.st.es, Tes.tic.les and Testimony All Have The Same Origin The words te.st.ify, testimony and te.st.ic.le all come from the Latin te.st.is, for tes.ti.cl.es. When Roman men gave testimony, they held their testicles in their hand, for they regarded them as sacred. This custom is mentioned in the Old Testament. In the King James translation, the passage reads, “And Abraham said: ‘unto his eldest servant of his house… Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh: And I will make thee swear…’” Two men taking an oath of allegiance held each other’s te.st.icl.es, and men held their own te.st.ic.le.s as a sign of truthfulness while bearing witness in a public forum. The Romans found a word to describe this practice but didn’t invent the practice itself. Other primates had already been doing this for millions of years. Two male baboons who cooperate with each other by forming aggressive alliances against other baboons frequently handle each other’s Instruments. It is stated that under Roman law no man was admissible as a witness unless his te.st.ic.le.s were present as evidence or “witnesses” of one’s virility because only verified men were allowed to give witness, or to testify, in legal matters. Yes, women were not allowed to testify. 10. Your Se.me.n Moves Faster Than Any Man Can Run The average speed of se.me.n at the moment of ejaculation is 31 mph – which is faster that Peruvian Jaguar and more than Usain Bolt’s world-record maximum running pace of 27.79 mph. Of course, your se.me.n won’t cross 100 meter What are your thoughts? Welcome to another badly written Nollywood bashing article. So if you have anything better to do with your day then just to go it right now. Just kidding, this article is actually great. No matter how many Hollywood movies you watch, or how much you abhor Nollywood movies; you cant deny that they were your first love, your movie watching days started with Nigerian movies. Okay, you were smart from birth and had always known that Nollywood movies are so bad you’d rather watch wet paint get dry. Let’s face it; you are a Nigerian and no matter how nauseating Nigerian movies are, they represent you in the international scene (yes, we know you want to puke) and there is little you can do to change that right now. Except you become a dictator and ban every nollywood movie in Nigeria, which isn’t a bad idea, except the becoming a dictator part. After watching nollywood movies for more than 22 years, what are the lessons that can be learnt so far? 1. Only Criminal Smoke Cigarettes In Nollywood Smoking is meant for criminals, not just for criminals but the hardened criminals; armed robbers, assassins, drug kingpins, prostitutes and every despicable profession in Nigeria. Oh wait, we forgot to add ritualist to the list, Nollywood loves it when ritual killers smoke cigarettes. In Real Life Smoking is not a healthy habit, it has many damaging effect on the health of humans but there is no single correlation between smoking and crime. Like we said, smoking is just a bad habit, end of story. There are tons of responsible people, who smoke cigarettes and the last time we checked smoking is not a criminal offence. So the next time you see someone smoking, the least you could do is tell that person how dangerous it is to their health instead of judging them already, all thanks to Nollywood. 2. Traditional Worshipers Are Evil In Nollywood Traditional idol worshippers are only good at causing wrecking havoc in the life of unsuspecting Nigerians. They are the people you go to when you want to kill or maim anybody you hate for no apparent reason. The least condescending role assigned to traditional idol worshipers is that of a lukewarm chief priest who receives messages from the gods and at best refuses to collect bribe in favour of a corrupt individual. In Real Life If you are reading this, then chances are that you are a Christian or Muslim. Traditional worshippers are a minority in Nigeria accounting for less than one percent of the population. Traditional worshippers are the perfect villains in Nollywood movies. They have a bad history but that is true of almost every religion in the world. Every religion has killed for a cause, has sacrificed thousands for a cause. We don’t see other countries making fun of their traditional religion, do you? Why Nollywood? Besides that, there is no evil religion, only evil people exist. There are bad people in every religion. At giftedgreen.com, we are mostly Christians and Muslims but c’mon the demonising of traditional worshipers needs to stop. Quick question, you should know one or two traditional worshippers back at the village, are they as horrible as nollywood make them seem? 3. Every Girl Must Learn How To Cook In Nollywood Every girl needs to learn how to cook because if she doesn’t learn how to cook her husband will send her back to her parents when he finds out she can’t cook a decent meal. In Real Life We wonder why the feminists in Nigeria aren’t crying foul yet as regards to this archaic plot Nollywood uses every frigging time. Nollywood sometimes likes to exaggerate with scenes of excess salt or too much pepper in the food or burnt meals as a sign of bad cooking we all know that rarely happens. Even if a girl doesn’t know how to cook, so what? What stops the man from cooking? Or teaching her? Or making her attend cooking class? Or hiring a maid? Or eating out? It’s good a girl knows how to cook; it is not an ultimate skill deserving divorce if lacking. Take a girl to her parents? Who does that anymore? She will chew you out and spit you out in court. Nollywood loves to assign the role of full house wives to women. Women are rarely given the role of a professional, except when it is convenient to the story. Feminist, seems like you’ve got some work to do. 4. Nigerians Invented Tattoo In Nollywood No matter when a Nollywood movie is set, it doesn’t matter if it is 3000 B.C or 3000 A.D as long as it has a village setting, virtually everybody has a tattoo and the village king always dresses ridiculously. In Real Life Our ancestors were not that bonkers for tattoos and neither are our village folks, to the best of our knowledge. Instead of tattoos, they should instead give everybody a facial mark, which was quite prevalent back in the days. Oh wait, that would be too complicated for their makeup artist. When you see a village where everybody wears tattoo, be sure to let us know in the comment section below. Village chiefs do not dress as ridiculous as they are portrayed in Nollywood movies. The most annoying part is that even movies set in the present day still features traditional rulers in mundane attires. Apart from first class and second class chiefs, traditional rulers rarely wear their full regalia. They dress in that manner mostly during festival and traditional occasions. 5. Always Take The Words Of A Madman/Village Drunk Seriously In Nollywood The mad man on the street keeps saying the plot of the movie but nobody seems to take him seriously because he is mentally unstable. The village drunk keeps pointing out the villain and all his plans but no one heeds to his words as he is supposedly drunk. In Real Life The best anybody could get from alcohol intoxication is that you get to tell the truth a lot, that is after you ignore the staggering, slurred speech, nauseating feeling, hangover and not to mention that you are putting your life and the life of others at a huge risk. Yes alcohol acts as a truth serum, making you more honest. It does not give you the back story to life; neither does it show you the synopsis to everybody’s life on earth. As for brainsick, pretty much everything they say s useless, why are we even discussing this? What is nollywood trying to tell us? That we should listen to the wise words of drunks each time they speak or welcome the words of insane men as divine advice? 6. Rich Kids Are Spoilt And People From In Diaspora Disrespectful In Nollywood Rich kids are spoilt little brats who have everything they ever want in life and this transforms them into horrible little monsters with no human sympathy whatsoever. While those from Diaspora (it doesn’t matter if they went to Ghana for two days) are people with glaring fake American accent, dressed ridiculously in oversized shirts, face cap, eye glasses and oversized shoes (OMG, this never changes). They are always downright disrespectful with no regards to their elders or constituted authority. Did we mention that they never win when they are in a love triangle? In Real Life First of all, you have to visit the United States of America for you to get close to anywhere close to the American accent (that gibberish Jim Iyke does could make your ear bleed). You don’t go to Britain and acquire an American accent, you don’t go to Russia and acquire an American accent and you definitely don’t go to Togo for you to pick up the American accent. Okay let’s say you even visit the U.S.A. There are hundreds of people who spent years in America who do not have an iota of the American accent. There are also thousands of many more who were born and brought up in America who respect their elders and not as pompous as we are meant to believe in the movies. Don’t be fooled, visiting a third world country does not diminish your chance of finding true love. 7. Screaming The Word ‘Jesus’ Makes Everything Perfect In Nollywood Are you about to in a motor accident? Scream the word ‘Jesus’ and all will be well. Are you about having a spiritual attack? Scream the word ‘Jesus’ and all will be well. Are you about to drown in water? Scream the word ‘Jesus’ and all will be well. Did an assassin just put ten bullets in your body? Scream the word ‘Jesus’ and all will be well In Real Life You’d be soooo dead There is a lot to Christianity and how God works than just screaming the word ‘Jesus’. Nuff said Have any thoughts? Let us know in the comment section below. http://giftedgreen.com/2014/blog/2014/11/07/7-horrible-lies-nollywood-will-teach-your-kids/ |
Tintinnoty:Technically, WhatsApp, BBM, 2go are all text messaging apps. They still fall under text messages |
Yesterday, we published some telephone etiquette that should be observed at all times ( http://giftedgreen.com/2014/blog/2014/11/03/phone-habits-that-would-make-people-take-you-seriously/). We are going to continue today while concentrating on text messaging. Like everything else, there are however, a few etiquette tips to keep in mind: When texting is not allowed Just because you in a place where phone calls are not allowed do not mean that you are allowed to text. Phone calls are not allowed in places such as a movie, a meeting, a conference, during class, worship centers, banks. Texting in such places is distracting for others and distracting for you as well. If calling in an area is not allowed, then there are chances that texting is also not allowed. It is important that you do not text while you are walking, and most importantly you should make sure that you do not text while doing anything that requires your attention, like crossing a road. You should not text while you are driving either. Hands-free phones may lessen the risk somewhat, but the smartest choice is to pull into a parking area and stop before making a call. You should text only when you are standing still or sitting down and not in the way of anybody. You already know all these don’t you? Well, it is just a friendly reminder. Texting on a date Do not use your phone when you are on a date. Ideally, you should turn it off entirely. It shows your date that you care enough to shut out every form of communication for them. If you’re anticipating an important call, let the person you’re with know beforehand that you’re expecting a call that you’ll need to take. Never text at the table, even if the face-to-face conversation dies down. It will be seen as disrespectful. Like phone calls, introduce yourself when necessary Some people would send a text to you using a strange number and expect you to magically know the sender. If you are sending a text message to someone who does not have your number or you are using a strange number, it would be courteous of you to start your message by stating who you are. If you are unsure if the recipient has your number or not, it would be wise to also introduce yourself Do not ignore messages Admittedly some text messages do not necessarily need a reply, but most of the time they actually do. If you do not know what to say, the least you could do is let the sender know that you received the message. If they keep texting What happens if you are on a date with someone and your partner keeps pinging all day. It does not have to be on a date, once you are engaged with someone and they will not stop texting during your conversation, feel free to excuse yourself untile they have concluded their messaging. And if the texting is more in Just as you should not be answering your phone during a conversation, you should not send a text message when you are engaged with someone else. If you are with someone who will not stop text messaging during your conversation, feel free to excuse yourself until they have concluded their messaging. Sometimes text messages in not enough You shouldn’t use text messaging when informing someone of sad news, business matters, or urgent meetings, unless it’s to set up a phone call on the subject. Wrong number If you receive a text message that was sent to you by mistake, reply explaining that you aren’t the intended recipient. You don’t have to respond to anything else in the message. After sending a message Finally, remember that as with email, you can’t know for sure when the recipient is going to read his or her message—so don’t freak out if your text message doesn’t get an immediate response. http://giftedgreen.com/2014/blog/2014/11/04/unofficial-rules-of-text-messaging-you-should-adopt/

To most corporations, making a profit is goal number one – but some of those companies take it way too far, sacrificing the health of the planet and most times the life of Nigerians for a bigger bank balance. Far too many corporations turn a blind eye to the consequences of their destructive, exploitative practices. These corporations deserve a special place in hell for all of their atrocities, yet they continue to rake billions from Nigerians daily. Their crimes range from human right abuses, war, eco disasters, bribery and corruption (we are kinda used to that) and many more. Prepare to be disgusted. 1. Shell Nigeria When you think about Shell, the first image that comes to your mind is a dream organisation that provides big money jobs to Nigerians and scholarship to Nigerian students. What a lovely company, right? Wrong. When the military tortured and executed some environmental activist in 1995, they claimed Shell was pulling the strings. In 2009, shell compensated families of the slain protesters with $75 million which is like asking a mass murderer to pay a fine of N50. That just the tip of the iceberg, in 2009 internal memos surfaced that shell paid the military to use force on the protesters. According Wikileaks documents released in 2010, Shell’s head of Nigerian operation bragged to the U.S government that the company had infiltrated pretty much every relevant ministry of Nigeria’s government and was secretly calling the shots from behind the scenes. Shell’s horrendous track record in Nigeria includes embedding spies in the Nigerian government; paying rival militant gangs;engaging in corruption (not only in Nigeria); arming police spies;undercover activity using a private spy firm (Hakluyt) and associating Shell with murder and human rights abuses. Shell has such a shameful record in Nigeria, including plunder and pollution on an epic scale, that it has even considered ditching the Shell global brand name. Such a radical move would also distance the company from its Nazi past. 2. Chevron Chevron was responsible for the death of several Nigerians who protested the company’s polluting, exploiting presence in the Nigerian Delta. Chevron paid army, to squash the protests, and even supplied them with choppers and boats. The military opened fire on the protesters then burned their villages to the ground. You’d think that they are only cruel to Nigerian, well unfortunately no. Between 1972 and 1993, Chevron (then Texaco) discharged 18 billion gallons of toxic water into the rain forests of Ecuador without any remediation, destroying the livelihoods of local farmers and sickening indigenous populations. Chevron has also done plenty of polluting the U.S, in 1998, Richmond, California sued Chevron for illegally bypassing waste water treatments and contaminating local water supplies. 3. Coca Cola In addition to contaminating the environment, using child labor and campaigning to get restaurant to stop drinking water, the soft-drink giant has made a habit of using paramilitary organizations to do their dirty jobs for them. Coca Cola corporation has wrought devastation in India, where its factories use up to one million liters of water per day, leaving tens of thousands of nearby residents dry during the drought months. Like that is the worst of it, Coca Cola disposes of the wastewater improperly, contaminating whatever water is left. A lawsuit in 2001 accused Coca Cola of hiring paramilitaries in Columbia which suppressed unionization in the cola plant there through intimidation, torture and murder. Dozens of union members at Coke bottling plants and their families have been systematically threatened, beaten, kidnapped and murdered across the globe. 4. Pfizer Pfizer travelled to Kano, Nigeria to try out an experimental antibiotic on third-world diseases such as measles, cholera, and bacterial meningitis. They gave trovafloxacin to approximately 200 children. Dozens of them died in the experiment, while many others developed mental and physical deformities. Pfizer settled with Nigerian authorities for $75 million only after Pfizer had hired investigators to uncover corruption links to Federal Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa to expose him and put pressure on him to drop the federal case. Pfizer is guilty of some of the most despicable price gouging in corporate history: it keeps its HIV/AIDS-related drugs out of the hands of the world’s poor, who need them the most. Pfizer has aggressively fought efforts to make these drugs more affordable, refusing to grant generic licenses for HIV/AIDS drugs. Pfizer pleaded guilty in 2009 to the largest health care fraud in U.S. history, receiving the largest criminal penalty ever for illegally marketing four of its drugs. It was Pfizer’s fourth such case. According to the EPA, Pfizer can also proudly claim to be among the top ten companies in America causing the most air pollution. 5. Nestle Nestle uses cocoa harvested by slave labor, in Ivory Coast where over 600,000 children are estimated to be working in dangerous conditions in cocoa farms. Nestle hired women to dress as nurses to hand out free infant formula, which was frequently mixed with contaminated water, or the children starved when the formula ran out and their mothers could not afford more and their breast milk had already dried up from disuse. Thats just evil. Nestle attracted worldwide boycott efforts for urging mothers in third-world countries to use their infant milk replacer instead of breastfeeding, without warning them of the possible negative effects. Nestle’s crimes against man and nature include massive deforestation in Borneo — the habitat of the critically endangered orangutan — to grow palm oil, and buying milk from farms illegally-seized by a despot in Zimbabwe. Nestle drew fire from environmentalists for its ridiculous claims that bottled water is “eco-friendly” when the exact opposite is true. 6. Apple The rich folk amongst us are probably reading this on one of their products. Apple is arguably one of the world’s most recognizable brands. For starters, Apple’s Chinese suppliers use child labour. In 2010, the company uncovered 91 children working at its factories. These same juveniles were often put to work lifting heavy goods with zero training. The most-recent audit found the number of child workers had risen from 96 – 106. Apple is also guilty of Tax Evasion, Blackmailing Congress and Aggressive Litigation. Apple tried to patent the idea of unlocking your phone by swiping; the use of square icons to denote apps; the ability to enlarge documents by touching the screen and making the phones rectangular . In case you’ve never seen one before, that basically describes a smartphone. 7. Abercrombie and Fitch The CEO and former Chairman of Abercrombie & Fitch, has a history of fat-shaming young women. According to Business Insider, the retailer had a longtime policy that prohibited stocking “XL or XXL sizes in women’s clothing because they don’t want overweight women wearing their brand.” “We hire good-looking people in our stores. Because good-looking people attract other good-looking people, and we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don’t market to anyone other than that,” Jeffries told Salon in 2006 8. Fifa FIFA is the organization behind just about every big soccer match on Earth: A company so devoted to clusters of grown men kicking a ball around a muddy field that it’s willing to trade the lives of 2,000 innocent people to make it happen. How did they achieving this? You’ve probably heard of Qatar. In 2010, the oil-rich country won the bid to host the 2022 soccer World Cup. Part of their contract as host nation requires the construction of a brand new stadium right in the heart of the burning desert. And for thousands of the Nepalese migrants working on it, that equals a death sentence. Abuse in Qatar is rife. Workers are made to work in 50°Celsius (122°F) heat with no access to water, and being beaten or starved for speaking out. According to The Guardian, around one migrant worker is currently dying per day—with more than 2,000 expected to have been killed by the time of the World Cup. 9. International Olympic Comitee Not many of us have read the IOC’s Olympic Charter (pdf). Basically, it’s a document that sets out the “fundamental principles” of the Olympics, including a commitment to human rights, equality and “the preservation of human dignity.” It’s the closest the Olympics have to a Constitution, and right now the IOC is allowed Russia to systematically crap all over it. In preparation for the Olympics in Russia, the country, illegally evicted 2,000 people from their homes, allowed the abuse of 70,000 migrant workers in violation of Russian law and began (continued?)arbitrarily detaining journalists. You would expect the IOC to step in and intervene or canceal the games altogether. 10.Siemens Siemens is an electronics manufacturer that makes everything from car parts to vacuum cleaners—and, in times past, Nazi gas chambers. If you’ve ever wondered who was willing to take the job of building the group-sized hydrogen cyanide chambers used in Auschwitz, now you know. They were also immersed in building the infamous train system of Nazi-era Germany, the Reichsbahn, which transported Jews to the concentration camps. And it’s not as if they were on the fringe of the war—Siemens funded the Nazi Party during the 1930′s and actively supported Hitler’s regime once the war broke out. They had more than 400 factories operating throughout Germany by late 1944, many of which used Jewish labor. But that’s old news; these days, they’ve moved on to more modern endeavors like spearheading a worldwide electronics cartel, bribing government officials, and bribing the entire country of Greece. These little-known facts will surprise and intrigue you. You might not even believe some of them but they are as true as truth can get. 1. The Brain Of Women Shrinks During Pregnancy The brains of pregnant women appear to shrink during late pregnancy, according to research which offers an explanation for cognitive problems some women complain of before and after giving birth. The doctors at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in London found that it can take up to six months for the women’s brains to regain their full size. The researchers found that as the woman’s body and physiology returned to the non-pregnant state, their brains increased in size. It is possible that their brains were swelling from a normal state. In addition, the team found that the pituitary gland, which lies at the base of the brain, showed the opposite effect – increasing in size during pregnancy, when it is responsible for producing reproductive hormones – and then diminishing in size in the months after pregnancy. 2. When Aroused, The Vagina Can Expand To Around Twice Its Normal Size. Unaroused, the average vagina is about three to four inches deep. But during se.x it can expand to about twice as big. That’s partially because of a process called vaginal tenting, which is what happens when you get aroused. When women become aroused, there’s more muscular tension in the body, that muscular tension draws the uterus upward, creating more space in the vagina lengthwise. 3. Not all Women Are Born With Hymens. Hymens range in thickness and amount of coverage. What this means: You can’t actually tell if someone is a virgin or not by doing a “hymen check,” Sorry guys, if she tells you she is a virgin, it would be best if you don’t insist on seeing blood. 4. Your Vagina Won’t Be Noticeably Different After You Have Babies. There is actually no statistical difference in average recorded vaginal size between women who’ve had babies and women who haven’t, according to fairly groundbreaking research published in 1996. So, no, the vagina of pregnant women is no larger the normal vagina 5. A Woman’s Uterus (Also Known As A Womb) Expands To More Than 500 Times Its Normal Size Over The Course Of A Pregnancy The uterus will also undergo a dramatic increase in weight, from around an ounce or two to a couple of pounds! This organ’s remarkable ability to stretch is partially made possible because it is anchored to the pelvis by a number of strong ligaments. These round ligaments attach to the sides of the pelvis and are able to stretch accordingly as the uterus grows. After the elastic female structure has finished ballooning to house a fetus, it will return to back to its prepregnancy size and weight. 6. Some Women Are Born With Two Vaginas Hazel Jones, a 27-year-old from High Wycombe, has a rare, but not unheard of condition called uterus didelphys, which is not easily diagnosed until a woman’s sex organs develop as she enters puberty. The condition occurs in about one in 3,000 women, according to the World Health Organization. Women can have children, although they are more apt to require a C-section section, as babies are often born breech. Often it is diagnosed when women have reproductive or infertility problems, but some women may go on to have children and never know they had the condition. Surgery can also repair a vagina with a septum, though scarring or perforation can occur. She declined a $1 million offer to appear in an adult film 7. The Vagina Is Acidic The pH of the vagina is quite acidic, averaging around 4.5 on the pH scale (7 is neutral). That’s about as acidic as beer or tomatoes. Busy microbe communities in the vagina maintain this acidity. For example, lactobacillus, a group of lactic acid-producing bacteria, dominates the ecosystem in many women’s vaginas. These beneficial bacteria and their acidic output likely keep nasty bugs from moving in and colonizing the place. 8. Women Hear Differently From Men According to research conducted at the Indiana University School of Medicine, men listen with only one side of the brain, while women use both. This is not to say that one is more capable than the other, but it sure does add fuel to the argument that women are better listeners 9. The Clitoris Grows Throughout A Woman’s Life. After menopause the clitoris can become 2.5 times larger than it was when the same woman was a teenager. No wonder that some women have stronger orgasms in mid life and into their fifties and beyond! 10.The Clitoris Contains The Highest Amount Of Nerve Endings In The Body The clitoris contains 8,000 deliciously sensitive nerve endings, double the nerve endings in the glands of a pe.n.is. Sorry guys. Have any fact to surprising fact to share with us? Australia has become the first developed nation to ban visitors from Ebola affected West African nations. On Monday, it issued a blanket ban on visas for people from Ebola-affected countries in West Africa, calling it a necessary safety precaution. Australia has not recorded a case of Ebola despite some scares and has resisted requests to send medical staff to West Africa, reports Reuters. The decision to refuse entry to people from West African nations has been criticised as politically motivated and shortsighted. Proposals to ban flights from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone are not a surprising reaction to the Ebola crisis, but they have been rejected by those with expertise in the area and usually indicate a failure to consider the practicalities. The idea to ban airplanes flying from West Africa has been advocated by senators, governors, and the Speaker of the US House, and has the support of 70% of Americans in a recent poll. However, many of these advocates don’t seem aware that there are no direct flights from the three most affected countries to the United States, and none of the people pushing the ban seem to have a detailed plan for how it would work. Consider citizens of wealthy countries currently in Liberia. Most would probably like to get home, if not now then soon. Which is more likely if flight bans are implemented: They simply accept they are stuck there until the crisis passes, or they make their way to a nearby country and fly on from there? Statistician Nate Silver has pointed out that the vast majority of flights from West Africa come from countries largely untouched by the crisis. If any returnees have been infected with Ebola, they’re going to bring it with them one way or another. But a ban will ensure they have spent a lot longer on airplanes and in airports, increasing the (still tiny) chance of infecting those around them, while running down their immune systems. Planes are great places to catch colds and flu, making it harder to identify who has ebola on arrival. They’ll also be pretty pissed off, which may lead to not answering questions honestly. Meanwhile, the economies of the countries included in the ban will be badly damaged, hindering their capacity to bring the disease under control and probably triggering a mass exodus. A ban that stops aid workers traveling to West Africa would destroy any possibilityof stopping Ebola’s spread. On the other hand, what is the point of letting those who have been treating the sick come home, while banning people who were in the same country, but probably never came near an Ebola patient? All this in response to an estimated three infected people leaving the region per month. As Dr. Kamran Khan at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto said, “Decreasing the number of infections in the source area is the most important way to decrease the spread.” What about a ban on flights from the whole of Africa, even countries that are Ebola-free? Try explaining that to the millions of tourists in Morocco, South Africa and Egypt. Moreover, if one non-African country chooses not to go with this idea, everyone can make their way home through there. An alternative version of the idea involves ignoring where someone is coming from, and banning anyone who has recently visited an affected country. This relies on accurate passport records, something the region isn’t known for, and on the participation of all intervening countries – despite it being in those countries interests not to play ball. The idea of trying to quarantine millions of people is unworkable, but particularly so for a disease like ebola. It takes up to 21 days (maybe more) for Ebola symptoms to appear, leaving plenty of time for people to hop around the planet, unlike influenza. On the other hand, it is also quite unnecessary – Nigeria and Senegal had ebola outbreaks which have now been overcome. Anyone arguing that developed countries will soon see the disease spreading like wildfire is alleging their health systems are worse than countries with one-twentieth the average wealth. People will, and always will, find ways to leave the country. Forcing them to use illegal, undocumented means is a sure-fire way to help ebola spread faster. http://giftedgreen.com/2014/blog/2014/10/29/banning-flights-from-ebola-infected-areas-is-a-terrible-idea-find-out-why/ |

“Tell me about yourself” is a popular question that interviewers love to ask during job interviews. It seem like a very simple, but in reality it is one of the most difficult question an interview could ask you. When the interviewer says tell me about yourself, most people tend to speedily diminish their chances of ever getting their desired job. Most people tend to read out their bio data to the interviewers and others just say the first thing that comes to their mind. If you do any of the above, well that explains why no one ever called you back, and shortly we will give teach you how to answer this question. You should be able to answer this question in a way that the interviewer will have no choice than to say “tell me more”. Keep It Short Recruiters have short attention span. They get bored easily. They usually interview tens of people monthly, and they need to determine if you are the right candidate or not in less than ten minutes. Besides that, there are tons of other candidates out there who also need to be interviewed. You see why you need to create a lasting impression. Wasting your time blabbing about your primary school education, hobbies or town you grew up is not the best of ideas. Be Genuine Honesty as you may have guessed is a trait every interviewer seeks from a candidate during a job interview. Being dishonest during a job interview shows that you really do not deserve the job, because who want to work with a dishonest person? What The Interviewer Really Wants To Know The phrase, “Tell me about yourself” has such a wide breath of answers that it can be overwhelming to know where to start. While your employer would like to know you, this is not the right time to know the secondary school you graduated from. Your interviewer is currently trying to figure out if you are the right candidate for the job or not – and your critical task is showing them that you are the best person they got. Break Your Answer Into Three Parts To prevent your chances of sabotaging even before the interviewer get to really know you, it would be best to break down this question into three parts. 1st Part :Start with a condensed version of your career history. Need we remind you that it has to be as concise as possible? 2nd Part: Your next step of action should be a brief summary of a specific achievement to capture the interviewer’s interest. 3rd Part: Conclude with a few sentences about what you hope to accomplish next in your career – and make sure it is relevant to the position you are interviewing for. What You Will Achieve This response will make you stand out from the crowd. Instead of giving the interviewer a boring overview of who you are, your hobbies, date of birth, place of birth, religion, and other details that are already in your curriculum vitae. At the end of the interview, you will end up branding yourself as a true professional who knows the value of what you have to offer to a potential employer. What are your thoughts? From the point of view of anyone trying to sell you something, panic is a wonderful thing. Panic turns off reason. While some of us were busy thinking of how to stay Ebola free, others were busy thinking of how to make more money. 1. Owners Of Ebola.com The Washington Post reported that, Las Vegas-based entrepreneur Jon Schultz owns the domain name Ebola.com, which he initially purchased in 2008, and now wants to sell it for $150,000. Schultz — who also owns birdflu.com, fukushima.com, and H1NL.com — said he calculated Ebola.com’s worth by keeping track of the number of visits made to the site, which he said stood at more than 5,000 daily. Schultz said that getting the highest possible return on his investment requires him to sell the site before fears about the disease dissipate or scientists announced a major breakthrough. The owners of the website Ebola.com have scored a big payday with the outbreak of the epidemic, selling the domain for more than $200,000 in cash and stock. The buyer was a Russian-registered firm called Weed Growth Fund, previously known as Ovation Research. The price was $50,000 cash and 19,192 shares of Cannabis Sativa, which promotes medical uses for marijuana. Those shares are worth close to $170,000. The reasons for the sale were not clear, but Cannabis Sativa chief and former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson has publicly said he thinks marijuana may be used to treat the deadly disease. In addition to GreenCoffeeExtract.com and AfricanMango.com, Blue String is also selling Fukushima.com, BirdFlu.com, and PotassiumIodide.com. 2. Sellers of Hazmat suit (Ebola Suit) Shortly after the Ebola death toll in West Africa surpassed 3,000, Pearson and his colleagues launched their Ebola protective gear business and purchased a domain (Ebolasuits.com). Just one week after launching the website Ebolasuits.com, which sells special hazardous materials suits and accessories claimed to help protect against the Ebola virus, its owner says he’s already doubled his investment. “We’ll probably just ride this thing until the wheels fall off,” says Drew Pearson, owner of Destin, Florida-based Ebola Suits LLC, which owns Ebolasuits.com. “If the orders stop coming in tomorrow, that’s okay. This is a business and we’ve made our money.” The Ebola suit-selling company also has a Facebook page which didn’t even exist much more than a week ago but already has more than 14,300 likes. Since launching the site, Pearson said Ebola Suits receives a dozen orders per day from across the United States — particularly in Texas and parts of the Midwest — and the sales keep on climbing. Some of the inquiries and orders, Pearson said, come from heads of households who often buy two or three at a time for family members. 3. Creator Of Ebola C According To Tmz, entrepreneur Todd Spinelli has made over $480,000 selling “Ebola-C,” a wafer that claims to boost one’s immune system by providing 554% of the daily recommended amount of Vitamin C. The product hasn’t been approved by the FDA, but Spinelli claims that a doctor on his staff says it totally works. So far, Spinelli’s sold 14,000 units for $34.95 each. (Fun fact: the idea that Vitamin C is an immune-boosting supplement may be a total myth, with Harvard University pointing out that many of the studies touting its benefits are “not well designed.”) 4. Ebola Toys Giant Microbes, a company that sells stuffed animals shaped like common viruses, has sold out of their ebola toys. It’s an unfortunate coincidence in their case: they sell stuffed animal versions of every virus under the sun, including gonorrhea, HIV, and herpes, and have been doing so long before Ebola became the crisis it is today 5. Self Appointed Health Writers Washington Post writer Caitlyn Dewey reviewed some recent self-published, Ebola-themed books now sold on Amazon.com and climbing its popularity charts. “And many of the books — almost all of them, in fact — contain information that’s either wildly misleading or flat-out wrong,” she wrote. Who do you think is making fast money from the Ebola hysteria? Do you think its fair to make money from Ebola? Forget what you know, being rich is awesome, being rich feels good, and most importantly being rich is exhilarating. Riches give you the luxury of not worrying about money anymore. You can spend money and not worry about the cost of everyday items. But is there a dark side to having money; are the downsides of being rich? Read on and let us know if you agree with us or not 1. There Will Still Be Some Expenses That You Cannot Afford No matter how much you own, there are things that you surely will not be able to afford. Sure you can buy most things that an average Nigerian is unable to afford but you surely cannot everything you want in life. You might own the latest car, but next week you would want your helicopter, when you finally buy a helicopter, you would wish for a private jet, you are able to afford a private jet and you want to. . . Well we have a feeling you know where this is going. 2. You Are Not Allowed To Complain About Money The first downside of being rich is that you are not allowed to complain about money. Everybody has his ups and downs, which do not include rich people (at least the way most people see it). There are moments when you go broke and saying you are broke would seem ultra strange to some people and downright insulting to others. Being rich is viewed as living in paradise and complaining about money is a taboo when you do it. You lose the ability to have human needs or frustrations in public. But, you are still a human being, and most people won’t see you as one. 3. You Can’t Differentiate Friends From Foe When you are rich, almost everybody you meet wants something from you, this makes it really hard to differentiate an ally from an enemy. When someone is nice to you, you start to think if it is because they like you or because they want something from you. This is worse when you are single, good luck trying to figure out whether your next partner is in love with you or your money. 4. People Don’t Appreciate What You Do For Them Friends and family would have unbelievably high expectations from you. When they collect loans from you, they become reluctant to pay, and most times they don’t pay because you are obviously super rich. When you give them gifts, they won’t appreciate it because they were expecting something ludicrously unrealistic. If you don’t pay for the bill during a meal, you may seem as stingy. Most times they expect you to just throw money their way for the littlest of reasons. They become easily disappointed when you do meet their unrealistic expectations. 5. You Are Constantly Scared Of Losing All Your Money You are going to live in constant fear of everything you own. The more money you have, the more the fear. You will stay awake at night, wondering if you made the right decision. What if you lose it all? Where will you begin from? What becomes of your friends? How will your family fend? Let’s put this succinctly, being rich is like climbing a ladder, the more money you own the higher you climb. The higher your climb; the more the pain when you fall 6. You No Longer Appreciate The Things You Own The things you’ve always wanted won’t mean so much to you anymore. Remember your excitement when you bought your first car? Buy the time you buy your tenth car, you would literally feel little or no excitement. The food from that fancy restaurant that you were unable to afford starts to taste like crap because you’ve eaten there so many times; it is now boring to eat there. You are always looking towards the next big thing, the next level up. You have to reset your expectations all the time and everything that level doest get you quite as exited anymore. 7. You Might Start Searching For Happiness In Weird Places Most people are raised to believe that when they have more money, life would be better and they would ultimately be forever happy. Then they get rich and they realise that money does not bring happiness, this fact alone can throw them into a serious life crisis. They start looking for happiness in weird places, and before you know it you are involved into something illegal just for the thrill, the temporary happiness it brings. People who know true happiness usually maintain perspective and stay grounded. This is the group of people who do not equate happiness with what you have vs what you do not have. 8. Your Children Might Not Learn The Value Of Money. They might feel like they don’t have to work for or worry about money, because they grew up in such a comfortable environment. Although they will have the ambition to know they “should be” working hard, they might not develop the qualities needed to succeed like you did. This might explain why some rich people do not splash money on their children. 9. You Don’t Know What To Do Next A old proverb says “When a fool sees success, he will laugh until he forgets himself. But when a wise man sees success, he will laugh for a while, stop and ask himself what next” Most people use money as their motivation to work hard. Once they reach that goal, they are at a loss for what else to do. Some people become lost, with nothing else to do. 10. You Learn That Money Doesn’t Change Your Internal Mindset Jay Z once said, “You can pay for school but you can’t buy class” If you are a horrible person, chances are that money will not make you a better person. Money does not make you a happier person and neither will it make you a nicer person. Becoming a better person comes from within not the other way round. Conclusion If you’re not happy now, you won’t be happy because of money. Whether you’re rich or not, make your life what you want it to be, and don’t use money as an excuse. Go out there, get involved, be active, pursue your passion, and make a difference. What are your thoughts?
