President Buhari has approved payment of pension to soldiers, policemen and paramilitary officers, who were involved in the Biafra war The veterans were dismissed from service for participating in the war, which lasted between 1967 and 1970.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Pensions Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) announced that payment will commence on Friday, October 20, in Enugu state. “The general public would recall that Nigeria witnessed an ugly civil war between July 1967 and January 1970 and as a result of that unfortunate period in our history, some members of the armed forces, the Nigeria police and the paramilitary officers who took part with the secessionist were dismissed from the service. The dismissal of those officers was commuted to retirement in year 2000 through a presidential amnesty granted on 29th May, 2000 by the administration of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo".

“A verification exercise was conducted for the pardoned officers by the defunct Police Pension Office and recently PTAD on one hand and the Police Service Commission on the other. Despite the presidential pardon and verification of these officers many of them remained unpaid years after the pardon. However, the present administration under the able leadership of president, C-in-C of the armed forces, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has graciously given approval for the payment of pension entitlements to these officers and their next of kin. PTAD is commencing the payment of pension benefits to the retired war affected police officers on Friday 20th October, 2017 in Enugu. 162 officers will be payrolled and 57 Next of Kin who have also not been paid their death benefits will be paid in the first batch,” the statement read.

The dumped girlfriend of a banker in the Bahamas reportedly got her revenge by driving his Mercedes car into his swimming pool.

Narrating his ordeal to the New York Post, Guy Gentile said he broke up with Kristina Kuchma, a Russian-born model, during a restaurant dinner after she asked for $50,000 to help start up a marketing business and he said, ‘You know what? You got the wrong guy. If you want a guy who’s going to hand you money for nothing, you got the wrong guy’.

With his response, Kuchma threw hot green tea in his face and stormed off, he said.

Mr Gentile said he later received a text message from her that read: “Lier! You told me you will help me to start a business! That were your words! Now you want to be an investor Well investor I have a surprise for you on a backyard, start with that investment idea first.”

When he arrived home the next morning, he found his Mercedes S400 hybrid at the bottom of his swimming pool.

“My heart dropped because of fears she was inside. I didn’t care about the car at that moment. But after I realised she wasn’t in it, then I start to get pissed off that she would pull something like this after everything I’ve done for her" he said.

He has since filed a report to the police saying it took more than four hours for the car to be removed from the pool.

According to the neighbors of the deceased, Udochukwu had complained to his landlord about the chicken he was rearing behind his apartment and said that the smell was affecting his health but the landlord and his children took offense at the complaint and attacked him. They also stabbed another neighbor on the hand when he came in to rescue Udochukwu.

Following the attack, Paul, who works as a security personnel at a Guaranty Trust Bank in Owerri, and his children - Chiemezie, Ndubuisi, Ugochinyere (lady in the photo below), Chidera, and Deborah - all fled, while neighbors rushed in and took the injured man to the hospital. All hospitals refused to admit him without a police report and he eventually died.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said at least 8, 000 corps members presently serving in Anambra will be available for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Ebenezer Olawale, the NYSC Coordinator in the state on Sunday said the data of corps members in the state had been transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for planning ahead of the November 18, 2017 election.

In his words, 'It is no longer news that the NYSC is partnering with INEC in the conduct of credible, fair and good elections, Anambra’s case is not different. My office and that of the Resident Electoral Commission have been working assiduously to ensure that corps members participate fully in the exercise. As we all know, corps members are supposed to be non-partisan, they are not from this state, so we expect them to be fair and they are evenly distributed across the state. We have no fewer than 10,000 corps members in this state but assuming that not all of them will be interested in taking part in the election, we have 8,000 available for this purpose. I have supplied INEC with the data of the available corps members in the state and where they are not enough, we shall mobilse from neighbouring states' he said.

Olawale also said the NYSC was working with security agencies to ensure the security and safety of all corps members.

On Sunday, the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti was shut indefinitely following the violent protest by students over the death of two of them that led to trouble on the institution’s campus late Friday when two of the students reportedly complained of malaria.

According to reports, they were said to have been rushed to the Polytechnic Health Centre for treatment, but their condition later became worse. They died in the early hours of Saturday.

The Registrar of the institution, Sade Adediran announced the immediate and indefinite closure of the school. She however did not confirm whether any student actually died at the Polytechnic Health Centre, said to be the trigger for the violent protest.

The statement warned that any student found on campus after the closure would be apprehended and made to face the consequences.

Apart from also destroying some other property, the students blocked all roads leading to the institution preventing free movement of vehicles.

An Abuja-based Slay Queen, identified as Gold Ijeoma West, who visited her friend Angel, allegedly came with a motive of stealing as she reportedly stole her friend’s new iPhone 6 worth N125,000.

She reportedly eloped with the phone after Angel went to the shower to have her bath. Angel’s report to the police paid off, as Ijeoma was arrested and reportedly spent 4 days in prison. She was however released after he Angel pleaded with the Police to release her, begging them not to charge her to court.

It was also gathered that the phone is now useless, as Ijeoma reportedly destroyed the phone while trying to unlock the iCloud and changing the phone’s panel.

Today, officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission took delivery of a baby girl while her mum was travelling on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to a statement by Route Commander Florence Okpe FRSC Public Education officer Ogun State Command, "at about1200hrs, a commercial vehicle with registration number XF 365 MKD on transit along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway drove into the FRSC Command premises and the driver reported that one middle aged woman by name Ajoke Ahmed, a passenger in vehicle had gone into deep labour'.

The FRSC medical team at the Sagamu Accident and Emergency Clinic immediately examined her, but since the clinic is not equipped to take delivery, the ambulance was prepared to transport her to the nearest hospital.

Within this process the pregnant woman gave birth to a baby girl at about 1215hrs inside the Command's Clinic. A medical examination by the medical doctor confirmed the baby and mother to be in good condition.

Meanwhile the family of the new mother have been contacted as well.

Mrs. Franca Nwosu, a roasted yam seller based in Minna, Niger State, revealed that she put five of her children through university from the proceeds of her business. Speaking to Northern City News on Thursday in Minna, the mother of nine said that she started the business about 15 years ago.

"I started this business over 15 years ago and with the proceeds.I was able to train five graduates. So , as far as I am concerned, the business is booming, no matter the hardship in the country, people must eat, you cannot avoid food .”
