Calamity struck the people of Oyo early hours today as inferno razed the popular Akesan Market , the town major commercial centre.


The tragedy could have been curtailed before excalation assuming the fire service station near the market had responded swiftly to the raging fire incident when the inferno started around 2 am.


Whatever the excuse the fire service may want to give, the fact remains that the conduct and performance of Fire Service Station in Oyo serves as a reminder that this country still lacks proper disaster management system. It exposes the fact that government lacks the capacity to respond effectively to emergency situations.


With this ugly development which was worsen by lack of government capacity, the livelihoods of hundreds of families with their dependents had been put into jeopardy.


When I visited the market this morning,I saw an heritage lost and billions worth of investments destroyed.Unfortunately,the market women hardly subscribed to safety net insurance for necessary recourse giving billions of goods and quantum of fund invested and already lost to the inferno.


Only God can wipe the tears of the victims but the government has the responsibility to curshion the effect and provide relief to the affected traders.


While some sympathizers were making frantic efforts to help the shop owners quench the fire outbreak,some hoodlums were trying to loot. Regrettably, the police in an effort to prevent looting of shops that were yet to be engulfed by fire had a kind of running battle with hoodlums and three people died in the process.This raises the question of poor crises management technique by the police.It is still a pursue the reason for the use of fire arms in dispersing people from the scene of fire incident.


This is a sad moment for the people of Oyo. As people continue to weep over the collosal loss by the traders whose businesses had already been consumed by the fire disaster, I appeal to the state government , local governments, political office holders and philanthropists to kindly come to the rescue of the victims.

We all need to rally round to provide succur to the victims.

A 2-year-old girl is about to be deported from the United Kingdom, UK despite both of her parents holding British passports.

The girl is being deported, according to reports, because she hasn’t lived in the country for seven years, Daily Mail reports.


Mother Lindsay Dutton, 30, originally from South Africa and now living in Clydach, Swansea, South Wales, is fighting to keep Lucy in the UK after the Home Office reportedly gave her daughter 14 days to leave the country if she does not appeal.

Ms Dutton was told to apply for a right to remain in the UK when Lucy’s child visitor visa expired after the family visited the UK and decided to stay last year.

Both parents claimed British citizenship through their parents, which extends to one generation, meaning Johannesburg-born Lucy does not have an automatic right to stay in the UK.


However the Home Office rejected the application because the two-year-old has not lived continuously in Britain for seven years, the BBC reported.

Tenant Liason Officer Ms Dutton described the move as ‘cruel’ and ‘heartbreaking’ and has since taken out a high street loan of £3,052 to cover the costs of the application.

‘It’s against human rights what they are doing to us. It’s cruel,’ Lindsay said.

‘It’s heartbreaking to do that to a parent, all I have done the entire week is sob,’ she said.

She has since separated from Lucy’s father, Gavin Burls, 34, who now lives in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

And the mother-of-one needs to pay out more than £3,000 to fund an appeal for Lucy while reliant on donations as she describes being at ‘wit’s end’.


She said:

‘It costs £3,140 to apply to appeal and go to court, I have to pay in the next four weeks.

‘I’ve had to beg, I’m at my wit’s end. I have paid £600 – my elderly neighbour gave me £40 towards the Lucy Fund.

‘I have broken down in the last few days, I do not know where to turn.’

She added:

‘I was born in South Africa, as my mum moved there when she was quite young, but I have a British passport and my brother Gareth is married to a Welsh girl.’

Her brother has lived in Wales for 13 years and the family tried to be closer together by moving to the area.

Gower MP Tonia Antoniazzi is lobbying Home Secretary Priti Patel to intervene and said: ‘Both parents and grandparents have UK passports and all live here. This is a ridiculous situation which needs resolving immediately.’

A Home Office spokesman added: ‘All applications are considered on their individual merits and on the basis of the evidence available.’

The spokesman said it would be inappropriate to comment if the case was ongoing.

A four-member job fraud gang, including three Nigerians and a woman from Nagaland, was arrested by the Cyberabad Cyber Crime police in Hyderabad on Saturday, October 12.


Addressing the media, Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the four were cheating several job aspirants after promising them jobs abroad.


The accused persons are D. Mohammed alias Nwosu Donald, 35, Musa Halimat, 29, Ndour Alioune alias Benedict Enabulele, 32 and Holito Zhimomi, 35.


Two other suspects identified as Petosile Ugha and Samson William are currently on the run.


Three Nigerian Nationals Arrested In India For Job Fraud


Below is the full statement issued by the Police Commissioner:

On 29.08.2019, the police received a complaint from one Mr V.Rajan Babu R/o.Kukatpally, Hyderabad in which he stated that he is working in Pattnaik Steels and Alloys Ltd, Odisha as C.E.O since 3 years.

He is in the habit of changing his job from one organization to another for better position and high salary. He being Power Engineer, he is following said practice since 2002 after taking voluntary retirement from the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. He is regularly updating his resume in major national and international job portals as he has vast experience of working in 7 counties earlier.


In the month of Jan, 2019, he received a phone call in the name of one Mr Heather Williams, C.E.O and Business Development Officer of “Roggal Hotel and Apartments Las Angles, California” and informed him that his resume has been shortlisted for Roggal Hotel and Apartments as Chief Manager and asked him to attend interview. On 20th Feb, 2019 he received a call in the name of Miss Heather Williams, who claims to be the wife of Mr Williams of Roggal Hotel and Apartments informing him that she visited India from Boston International Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi and staying at British Consulate, New Delhi to interview him and later informed him that he got selected after taking telephonic interview.


After which, the complainant received a call from Mobile No.8448740868 where she introduced herself as Ms Akita Kumari from New Delhi and informed him that Miss Heather Williams a carried DD of US $ 1,75,000 towards his 12 months salary and asked to pay of Rs.55,000/- initially for release of DD carried by Miss Heather Williams, on believing her words complainant paid the Rs.55,000/-. Again the said Ms Akita Kumari called the complainant and asked to pay Rs.2,55,000/- for release of DD amount and provided the bank account numbers. After which Miss Heather Williams also forced him to pay an amount of Rs.10,00,000/- for release of DD. After 4 days, again Ms Akita Kumari called him and asked to pay an amount of Rs.8,65,000/-. After which one person by name Mr Robert who claims to be Public Relations Officer of British Consulate, New Delhi contacted him on WhatsApp (+447482868564) and convinced him that the DD $ of 1,75,000/- will be given to him within one week, if he pay the amount demanded by Ms Akita Kumari. Accordingly the complaint paid an amount of Rs.47 Lakhs in total into the bank accounts given to him by Mr Akita Kumari. Basing on the above complaint a case is registered at Cyber Crime Police Station, Cyberabad and investigated into.


Background of the accused:

1: Diongue Mohammed @ Nwosu Donald Prosper @ Mr Heather Williams

He is the mastermind of this crime. Though he is a Nigerian national, he came to India on Senagal Passport by changing his name from Nwosu Donald Prosper to Diongue Mohammed on Tourist VISA in March, 2018. He purchased the database of abroad job seekers and sends the mail to the job seekers to provide the job in abroad. Initially he traps the job seekers and later he directs A-2, 3 and 4 to lure the job seekers and to collect amount in different names from them.

2: Musa Halimat @ Miss Heather Williams

She is a Nigerian national and came to India on Medical Visa in the month of June, 2016. She is the girl friend of A-1 and supporting him to speak with the victims with the support of other accused.

3: Ndour Alioune @ Benedict Enabulele @ Mr Robert

He is a Nigerian national, but came to India on Senagal Passport by changing his name from Benedict Enabulele to Ndour Alioune on Tourist VISA in the month of Sep, 2018. He is providing technical assistant for creating fake e-mail Ids and sending the mails to the victims. He also chats with the victims by using UK Mobile Number Whatsapp.

4: Mrs Holito Zhimomi @ Ms Akita Kumari:

She hails from Nagaland and married to Francis Aghahon, a Nigerian national in the month of April, 2019 at Nigeria. She assists A-1 for speaking with the victims, by using her name as Ms Akita Kumari and ask them to pay the amounts for arranging job.

5: Petosile Ugha

He is arranging bank accounts to the accused for remitting the amounts by victims.

6: Samson William:

He is arranging bank accounts to the accused for remitting the amounts by victims. Modus Operandi of the Accused: Investigation revealed that, A-1). Mr Diongue Mohammed @ Nwosu Donald Prosper Mr Heather Williams is the mastermind of this crime and whereas A-2). Musa Halimat @ Miss Heather Williams is his girl friend. She is supporting him to spoke with the victims in the name of Miss Heather Williams. A-3). Mr Ndour Alioune @ Benedict @ Mr Robert is providing the technical assistant for creating fake e-mail Ids and sending the mails to the victims. A-4). Mrs Holito Zhimomi @ Akita Kumari spoke with the victims in the name of Ms Akita Kumari and whereas the accused A-5). Petosile Ugha & A-6). Samson William are providing bank accounts for remitting the amounts by victims. A-1 is collecting job seekers database from various job portals and contact them by offering jobs in different international institutions. If anyone responds to the job offer of A-1, then A-2 contact them by using the name of Miss Heather Williams and tell them that she came to India to take the interview of job seekers and also tell that she is carrying Demand Draft of 12 months salary in advance in US dollars. Meanwhile A-4). Mrs Holito Zhimomi contacts the job seekers in the name of Ms Akita Kumari and ask for the amounts to release the Demand Draft in the name of job seeker. A-3). Ndour Alioune @ Benedict creates the fake mail Ids and sends the mails to the job seeker to make them to believe that their process is genuine. In this process the accused lured the complainant and taken an amount of Rs.47 lakhs on the pretext of release of DD of $ 1,75,000/-. As the accused (A-1, 2 and 3) are staying in India illegally even after expiry of their VISA cases will be registered against them under foreigners act also.

Robert Forster, the journeyman actor whose comeback role as a bail bondsman in Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” earned him an Oscar nomination, died on Friday, October 11th at his home in Los Angeles.


He died at the age of 78 and the cause of his death has been ruled as brain cancer, according to Kathie Berlin, a longtime friend who handled his publicity.


Forster appeared in close to 200 films and television shows during his more than five decades in show business. He made his movie debut in “Reflections in a Golden Eye,” the racy 1967 drama directed by John Huston and starring Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor. In 1969.

Nigeria's Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed on Thursay October 10, announced that online news platforms will now be regulated as he inaugurated a seven-man committee to implement reforms in the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).


Lai Mohammed went on to say President Buhari has approved the upward review of fines from N500,000 to N5 million for hate speech offences as well as the amendment to the NBC act to enable it to license WebTv and radio stations, including foreign broadcasters beaming signals into the country.


In his reaction to this, Apostle Suleman said, 'just read about N5m fine for hate speech...there is a thin line btw freedom of speech/hate speech..this is a deliberate attempt to silence people..we could back date its implentation to 2014'.

Ghanaian beauty queen, Chaana has revealed that she is facing difficulties in her line of work because of her beauty.


Salma Chaana Abul-Razak, the fourth runner-up of 2010 Ghana Most Beautiful pageant, said beauty can be a positive factor in a woman's life but it also has its negative side.


According to her, beauty has become a challenge because most men want to have sex with her before they can help her.

George Akume, the current Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs has stated that anyone criticizing the Buhari-led administration is ungodly.


Insisting that President Buhari is on the right track and working tirelessly to fix the country in an interview with TVC, the former Governor of the Benue who was elected on the platform of the People's Democractic Party (PDP) blamed his former party of destroying the country’s economy, turning blind eye to insecurity and siphoning funds meant to provide electricity in its 16 years rule.

George Akume said “When people talk so much about this government negatively, I believe they have a sinister motive and purpose. Sincerely, they are no angels in government but there is a big difference between what was and what is.

“The system was bad when this government came on board in 2015. And at the time we came virtually all sectors of the economy had broken down; (there were) serious security breaches.

“You can testify that a lot has been done by this government in that area to stem the tide of insecurity. When I was in the Senate, I happened to be a member of the committee on defence; we visited the North East and virtually everything was bad.

“I knew what was going on in the North East. Frankly, about half of that place was taken over by Boko Haram. Today, Boko Haram has been seriously degraded. Of course, they strike from time to time which is normal even in Iraq, Egypt and so on. Boko Haram can never ever operate with immunity.

“What the military is doing is now is a mopping up of pressure. Banditry, robbery, and kidnappings are pains of democratic transition. The offences against these vices are very strong.

“When you are outside the country and you hear people talk about Nigeria, you will think it is a place where life is nasty, brutish, and short – where you cannot do business. But when you get into the country, look at the rich opportunities that the country offer.

“The fact is that those who are doing business here also smile to the bank. If you like, do a programme on power beginning from 1999 when this country returned to participatory democracy to presidential democracy, so much has been put into the power sector and yet the result was very appalling until 2015 when this administration got to power.

“I say it on the bases of my own experience as one of the founders of the PDP. I know that government of the day decided to add 60, 000 megawatts of power to the national grid at the end of 2007. At the end of the day, I don’t know what the whole thing ballooned to N16 billion and nothing to show for it,” he said.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) have denied rumours making rounds that the governing body is owing Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr three months' salary.


This comes after Veteran sports journalist, Osasu Obayiwana alleged on Twitter on Thursday night that Gernot Rohr has not been paid his wages by the Nigeria Football Federation for three months,

He wrote: 'The @NGSuperEagles play a match against #SelecaoBrasileira in Singapore, at 8pm Singapore time on Sunday. Gernot Rohr, the Franco-German in charge of @Nigeria’s team, has not been paid his wages by the @thenff for THREE MONTHS.

Reacting to his claims, NFF said Rohr is only owed salary for September and they also confirmed that Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby has tendered his resignation.
