Bashir Umar, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel who returned a missing €37,000 to its owner has just been promoted by the Chief of Air Staff.

According to President Buhari's media aide, Bashir Ahmad, 'Corp. Bashir has received double promotion and was decorated with a new rank of Corporal, a reward for his integrity. He recently found 37,000 euros and returned it to the owner'.

46-year-old arms dealer, Godwin Chinyere, believed to have sold the firearms, ammunition and rocket launchers used by suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Owuamadike, alias Evans in his operations, has been arrested by the Nigerian police.

The arrest came 2 years after Evans confessed to using some rocket launchers and AK-47 rifles in his operation, during interrogation. The first manhunt to apprehend Chinyere was not successful, as he went into hiding after the billionaire kidnapper's arrest. He however came out of hiding when he thought the police had stopped looking for him, but was unaware that the hunt for him was still on. He was trailed to Asaba Delta State, where he was hiding and apprehended.

The native of Obingwa area of Abia State admitted selling five Ak-47 rifles to Evans. He also revealed that he began selling and making firearms in 1990, after he dropped out of primary school following his parents' inability to pay his school fees. Chinyere reportedly learnt how to make local guns from his boss, one late Chinaka Nnawakwo, who he said have been killed by security operatives for gun-running.

“I learned how to make locally made guns from a village known as Abala and I was one chinaka Nnawakwo and that thought me the job. I spent three years learning the job before I started making my own. I have several customers who were gun runners coming to buy guns from me in large quantities. I usually sell locally made double barrel guns for the sum of N10,000 and the single barrel was sold for N6,000, while the locally short guns were sold for N10,000.

“One of customers, Samuel Nwakpa, who was coming from the Kaduna State to buy guns from me, was the person who linked me to big arms dealers in Chad and Niger republic. They were the people supplied me the five Ak-47 rifles I sold to Evans which he used for his bank robbery and kidnapping activities. I met Evans when he came to my village to treat his bullet wound and his native doctor Eyinaya Hearth, linked him to me.

“I knew he was using it for armed robbery and for kidnapping. Evans paid me the sum of N1.7million for the five Ak-47 rifles after they were supplied to me in Chad. The rifles were concealed in bags of fish and I took my commissions and gave the rest of the money to Nwapka, who also supplied the rocket launchers to Evans.

“Before Evans was arrested, I have stopped doing the business and I and turned a new leaf, but I fled and went into hiding when he was arrested because I knew he was going to mention my name to the police and I don’t even know that the police still looking for me when I came out of hiding and I was arrested. I warned Evan to stop kidnapping when I turned a new leaf but he wouldn’t listen to me.” He lamented.

A columnist with Punch newspaper, Abimbola Adelakun, has been released after she was briefly held up for questioning by security men at the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) in Abuja.

Adelakun attended the church's service this morning as she continued her research on the senior pastor of the church, Biodun Fatoyinbo, who is currently enmeshed in a rape scandal. However the church security men identified her as a journalist and took her to a holding room for questionning.

She had published a column at the back page of Punch newspapers on July 4th with the title “What Does Mrs. Fatoyinbo Know”. The article, which examined the rape allegations against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, was illustrated with the cartoon of a man desecrating the bible with urine. The cartoon was greeted with backlash from readers, ultimately leading to the firing of the editor of the paper’s daily title, Martin Ayankola.

In a tweet she posted this afternoon, Adelakun said the security agents refused her demand to leave after identifying her. She disclosed that she has since reported the incident to a police station in Abuja.

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) was thrown into confusion over the weekend after a patient who was on admission at the Accident and Emergency ward, committed suicide.

According to eyewitnesses, the male patient was waiting to see a doctor when he suddenly became wild and stabbed himself to death with a broken louvre beside his bed.

“The man suddenly became wild and broke a louvre beside his window and stabbed himself to death. His wife was not around. She went out to buy something outside. There was blood everywhere. We were lucky not to have been injured'' another patient in the ward said

Confirming the incident, Mr Joshua Uwaila, the spokesman for the hospital, said the unfortunate incident happened at about 10pm.

“An unfortunate incident happened on Saturday night 13th July, 2019 at about 10:30 pm when a young man who was a patient at the male medical ward of our hospital (diagnosis not disclosed for confidentiality sake), suddenly broke a louvre and stabbed himself. All efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive as he was certified dead at 11:00 pm'' he said

Uwaila added that the remains of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue while an autopsy is expected to be carried out soon.

Antoine Griezmann has been officially unveiled as a Barcelona player after completing his £108million move from Atletico Madrid last week Friday.


The 28-year-old France star signed a five-year deal with Barcelona that includes a staggering buy-out clause of £717million.

Griezmann who was in good spirits as he posed in the Barcelona kit for the first time yesterday will wear the No 17 shirt for his new club.

Addressing the media at the Nou Camp, Griezmann said: 'I'm very excited to be here. I'm accepting a big challenge. I'm ready for what's coming up.'

'It's a new challenge. I always try to better myself and break out of my comfort zone. I want to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League - which is missing from my CV.'

Speaking about Lionel Messi, Griezmann said: 'Messi is someone for every footballer to look up to. It's a source of incredible happiness to be able to play alongside him.'

Before his move to Barcelona, Griezmann scored 133 goals in 257 games for Atletico. He won the Europa League with Atletico in the 2017-18 campaign.
