CrimeGrandma In Coma After Being Flogged By A DPO In Edo by GistMore12(op): 9:07pm On Aug 27, 2019
A grandmother, identified as Mrs Bisi Ogedegbe, is currently lying unconscious in a hospital in Benin, Edo State, after being assaulted with a belt by a DPO in the State.
.
.
Giving an account of how it happened, her son said: “My mom is critically unconscious in the hospital after the DPO of a police station in Benin flogged her with his belt.
.
.
It all started when my younger sister was driving through the police station this morning and some policemen stopped her and asked for the documents of the car which she presented to them. .
.
After seeing the documents they told her they would seize it till her husband comes to the station because he is wanted. They took her to their station at Ugbor and detained her and her 1-year-old son. .
.
She immediately called my mom who went there to solicit for her. My mom demanded to know what she had done and the officers directed her to the DPO's office. .
.
When she got there, she started to beg the man to let her go that she did nothing wrong. The DPO insisted that he won't talk to her and she was still begging when he pulled his belt and floged her till she fell on the floor and started crying for help.
.
.
Now she has been rushed to hospital by the same DPO who assaulted her. Two different hospital rejected her until the 3rd one, Samomen's Medical Centre, admitted her and place her on drips.
.
.
You can see the belt he used to flog her on the table. My younger sister was detained behind bars for even making the videos of my mom. This is the DPO who did all this. We are trying to get justice.

CrimePolice Officers Face Dismissal For Colluding With Wadume by GistMore12(op): 6:26am On Aug 27, 2019
Two policemen who allegedly colluded with kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala, popularly known as Wadume, will soon be dismissed from the service following their indictment for colluding with the crime boss in Taraba State.

Top police sources told our correspondent on Monday that Ibi police division crime officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Aondonna Iorbee, and the station officer, Inspector Aliyu, who had been in custody for about two weeks, would be dismissed for allegedly “colluded with criminals.”

One of our correspondents had earlier reported how the two officers were found to have collaborated with Wadume in his criminal enterprise.

The crime officer was found to have made over 200 calls to Wadume while the station officer allegedly destroyed evidence showing that the Intelligence Response Team operatives documented the operation to arrest the kidnap kingpin at the station.

A source said, “The two officers are still in custody and investigation has shown that they were working hand in-glove with the kidnap kingpin, Wadume. It is unfortunate, but they would lose their entitlements and also end up in jail.”

Meanwhile, a member of the IRT team which came under attack from soldiers attached to 93 battalion, Takum, Taraba State, on August 6, 2019, said attackers stole their phones and other personal effects.

The officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, described his experience as terrifying, noting that he narrowly escaped being killed during the assault which claimed three policemen and two civilians.

He said, “I managed to crawl out of the overturned vehicle and hid in a bush nearby. After the incident, we found that the soldiers had taken away our phones and wallets containing money and other personal effects.”

Meanwhile, the Joint Investigative Panel set up by the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, to investigate the incident failed to submit its report to the office of the Chief of the Defence Staff, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin, on Monday.

Military sources claimed that the panel postponed the submission, in order to carry out last-minute reviews and prevent the preempting of its findings.

The joint panel, headed by Rear Admiral Ibikunle Olaiya, was reported to have completed its sittings on Friday, after grilling soldiers, policemen, civilians and the suspected Taraba State kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Wadume, at the Defence Intelligence Agency, Abuja.

A top source said, “The panel has stopped inviting witnesses and it is reviewing all the material evidence before it. The panel sat today (Monday) but it was to finalise its report. The CDS may have granted them that extension.

“We need to allow the panel to do a thorough job, and the CDS may have graciously granted them an extension.”

CrimeTenant Rapes Landlady To Death In Ekiti by GistMore12(op): 9:59pm On Aug 22, 2019
A commercial motorcyclist, Abraham Tumise, has reportedly raped his landlady, Bukola Olarewaju to death.

The shocking incident occurred on Thursday at Olorunda area of Ado Ekiti.

Vanguard gathered that the mother of three, described by a family member as a middle-aged woman, was at home alone after her husband had gone to work while the children were said to have gone for holiday coaching when the incident happened.

The suspected tenant Tumise Abraham was alleged to have broken into the woman’s room, threatened her with a cutlass and tied her up before performing the dastardly act.

It was also gathered that after the act, the tenant fled the house but some of his belongings were found in the room which suggests that he was responsible for the act.

One of the children of the deceased, who spoke with Vanguard said he saw the tenant on a bike while coming home but never knew he had killed his mum at home.

The question on the lips of the residents of the area, who gathered at the house of the deceased, was what strange spirit could have taken possession of the young man to have committed such a dastard act.

The husband of the deceased and her children could not hold their tears as they wept profusely.

The police public Relations Officer Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed the incident, said the police had swung into action to bring the suspect to book.

EducationAdewole Atere, FUOYE Lecturer, Impregnates 16-Year-Old Student (Photos) by GistMore12(op): 6:26am On Aug 19, 2019
The former head of Department of criminology at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti in Ekiti State Professor Adewole Atere, has been accused of impregnating a 16-year-old student in his department Precious Azuka.

The girl reportedly fell for the Professor's love claim after one of his subordinates, Dr. Chinedu Abrifor pressured her into believing that she was ‘mature enough’ for Prof. Atere when they met in March 2017.

In her confession when she appeared before a fact-finding committee set up by the office of the then acting dean of students’ affairs E.O Adeyemi, Azuka who was 16-years-old at the time of the incident said it caused a disagreement with her boyfriend Kayode Fasanya. He broke up with her when it became clear that she was dating the Prof. Atere.

“A few days after Dr Abrifor approached me, he accompanied Prof. Atere to my hostel and they took me to their house at Aiyegbaju where I spent the night. I was returned to the hostel by 6 a.m. the following day. This practice continued for weeks" she said.

She got to know she was pregnant two months into the amorous relationship and almost everyone within and outside the hostel knew her story.

“I opted for abortion instantly but a doctor I saw said he doesn’t do it. So, when I got to the hostel, I took lipton tea and lime which made me to experience serious blood flow. When I didn’t see my menstruation the following months, I didn’t bother. I thought it had cleared,” she told the investigating team.

“The laboratory official introduced me to Dr. Dada who eventually helped me out on Wednesday, July 26,” Azuka said.

Federal University Oye-Ekiti Professor allegedly impregnates 16-year-old student

However because she was already 21 weeks into the pregnancy, Premium Times reported that the doctor said dilation and curettage (D&C) could no longer be conducted and then offered to induce Azuka to labour. That took place on July 27, 2017.

After one of the cleaners found a well wrapped cellophane bag dripping blood, she and her colleagues decided to trace its source after they noticed it was fresh. Azuka was found in the hostel writhing in pain and was rushed to the university’s clinic where she was placed on admission, but discharged the following day July 28, 2017.

“It was a Thursday morning and most of the students in the hostel had left for lectures. So it was easy to identify which room still had its occupant around. That was how Azuka was found in the room writhing in pain. She had lost so much blood that she could hardly talk,” a university source said.

Report of the fact-finding sub-committee which was setup to look into the matter after an Ado-Ekiti based legal practitioner Olaolu Ayodele, petitioned the school, was submitted to the vice-chancellor’s office on August 14, 2017.

“In the cause of our investigation, we gathered that after Azuka had been discharged, on August 2, 2017, Dr. Abrifor called her and Kayode Fasanya for a meeting in his office at the faculty. On getting there, Dr. Abrifor asked them to meet him at the mini campus junction by 6 p.m. same day where they were driven to Ifaki Ekiti for another meeting.

“At the meeting, Azuka said Dr. Abrifor accused Kayode Fasanya of impregnating her, and this led to an argument which was later settled when Dr. Abrifor made a call to his wife and asked her to calculate conception from March to July. She did and said it would be between 21 to 22 weeks, which was exactly what the test result claimed.

He apologized to Fasanya but asked him to claim responsibility to protect Prof. Atere’s image.

“He also promised that the money spent on the abortion would be refunded, and that Fasanya would be rewarded handsomely including good academic grades.

Mr. Fasanya was expected to come with Azuka the next day to lecturers' house at Aiyegbaju, but she was indisposed to couldn't make it.

“When Fasanya got to Aiyegbaju, he met Dr. Abrifor and Prof. Shola Omotola of political science department. They repeated the request that Fasanya should claim the pregnancy but he told them he would think about it. They also said a meeting with the director of administration on the campus, Mr. Odusanya, had been scheduled for Tuesday, August 8, when all parties involved would sign an agreement that would be binding. But according to her, this meeting never held" the report added.

On the evening of August 10, Mr Abrifor sent Azuka N20,000 through Adeleke Abiodun said to be another student of the department. She further revealed that she was charged N13,000 for the abortion but deposited N11,500 and was to pay N1,500 if she had returned for medications as scheduled.

Professor Atere resigned from his job at the Federal University Oyo-Ekiti shortly after the panel submitted its report. While some colleagues accused him of abscondment, others alleged that he was protected by the vice-chancellor. He is now a lecturer at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State.

Speaking on why they couldn't bring the charges against Professor Atere as stated in the submitted report, FUOYE's vice-chancellor Kayode Soremekun said Mr Atere left permitted resignation without notice. Revealing that the victim’s parents said they were not interested in prosecution, the vice-chancellor also denied receiving report of any subcommittee from the office of the then acting dean of students’ affairs.

“I had no power to stop him when he tendered his resignation letter because the law allowed him then. We have just reviewed our law to ensure that appropriate steps are taken before anyone could retire or resign. In fact, we have submitted it to the governing council and what we are waiting for is the approval.

“They sent one reverend sister to me that we should lay the matter to rest. So what do I do in that circumstance? The decision was theirs I think.

“I am not aware of any report by any committee set up by any dean. I have told you why we could not act. And if I may ask, why are you just bringing up this issue at this time? This matter happened two years ago now,” Mr Soremekun said.

However a document containing the university’s conditions of service which was approved in 2015 by the institution’s governing council, countered the Vice Chancellor's claim as it clearly spelt out conditions to be met when exiting the system.

“A professor or other officer of equivalent grade not a principal officer as defined by the Act unless he is appointed for a specific contractual period, may terminate his appointment after having given to the council not less than six month notice in writing of his intention to do so. In exceptional cases, vice-chancellor may waive part or all of such notice and shall thereafter report to the council.

“In fact, Prof. Atere erred by his abrupt resignation and his action qualified for abscondment,” a source said.

It was further learnt that Azuka who is now in 300 level reiterated that Mr Atere was responsible for her pregnancy. She however declined further comments as she said that all she wants at this time is to graduate.

The accused lecturer when approached by Premium Tumes said the allegation is not true but refused to explain his own side of the matter. “That is not true. It is not true" he said before ending the call abruptly and refusing to pick calls thereafter.

CelebritiesEhi Ogbebor Reacts After Being Told 'She Married Twice And Failed Twice' by GistMore12(op): 5:45am On Aug 19, 2019
Ehi Ogbebor fired back at her critics after being told that she 'married twice and failed twice' over an Instagram post she shared.

Recall we reported earlier that the hotelier stated that househelps are one of the reasons people are not usually nice as they end up being ungrateful.

However commenting on the post, a follower @Johnandrews1bb pointed out that just like there are good people and bad people, there are also wonderful househelps and bad ones. He added that Ehi married twice and failed twice because she talks too much and lack humility.

He wrote

"You are wrong. Just like there are good people and bad people there are also wonderful house helps and bad ones. You talks too much and lacks humility. This is why you married twice and failed twice"

Reacting to the claim made, the mother of three lashed out at those quick to put the blame on the woman while ignoring the man who may not be a good partner. Admitting that her marriage failed twice, Ehi further affirmed that she didn't fail because marital crisis is always bound to happen. She also wondered why the woman is not cut some slack even when she struggles for upkeep of her children after the marriage ends.

The popular Lagos socialite married Ken Bramor in 2017, 10 years after her first marriage crashed. Her marriage to the Benin billionaire ended 10 months after on grounds of occultism and domestic abuse.

Crime7-Year-Old Boy From Ogun Sold For N1m, Recovered In Anambra After 2 Years by GistMore12(op): 5:31am On Aug 19, 2019
A seven-year-old boy, Joshua Joseph, who was declared missing two years ago, has been found with his adopted mother, Blessing Ozor, who allegedly paid N1.05m for his ‘adoption’.

Joshua was declared missing by his parents, who live in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in 2017, but he was found by men of the state police command in Anambra State.

The boy, who had been renamed Chisom, was reportedly found in the home of Ozor, who claimed to have adopted him after paying N1.05m to a level-13 civil servant in the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs, Ifeoma Joy.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, gave the details at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Sunday, while handing over Joshua to his father and parading Ozor and Joy in connection with the incident.

Makama said the boy was found after a thorough investigation by operatives of the command over the last two years.

The police boss stated that Joshua was stolen in Ijebu-Ode and sold to Ozor.

He said Joy belonged to a three-member syndicate, which specialised in stealing children and selling them to their clients.

Our correspondent gathered that two other members of the syndicate, Rita and Angela, were been held in prisons in Edo and Ondo states, respectively, for the same offence.

It was gathered that both Rita and Angela gave information from their prison cells that led to the recovery of the boy and the arrest of Ozor and Joy in Anambra State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, accused Joy of collecting over N1m from the acclaimed adopted mother and forged adoption documents from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs.

Oyeyemi stated, “Joy is working at the Ministry of Women Affairs in Anambra State. She used the opportunity to arrange buyers for stolen children.

“In the cause of looking for her, she got transferred to four local government councils within one month in order to evade arrest.

“Our findings showed that eight children had been stolen by this syndicate from Ogun State and four had been recovered.

“One of the stolen children was found when the people, who adopted him, saw the boy’s picture on the pages of newspapers and returned him.”

While speaking with journalists, Joy denied the allegation against her, saying she was not involved in such an act.

She said, “I never did such a thing. I know the woman, who brought this boy, as a worker at the Peace Sisters’ Home.

“So, when my sister in fellowship (Ozor) came up with the idea of adopting a child, I called the other woman to help us get a boy and I gave Rita my sister’s particulars. When she finished with the particulars, she now came with this boy. I never knew the boy was stolen.”

Ozor said she gave Joy N150,000 for processing of the adoption papers and additional N900,000 when the deal was completed.

Ozor said amid sobs, “I am just a victim of circumstances by my foolishness. I went to a sister in our fellowship, who had adopted a child before, because I have two daughters already but I had a feeling for a son; my last daughter is 24 years old.

“I went through Rita because she and her husband had adopted a child before and they led me to this woman, Joy. I believed that everything was okay because she made me believe that she runs the Peace Sisters Home.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday that the police recovered three sharp cutlasses, a fetish calabash with dangerous charms and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspects, who had been charged.

Elkana stated, “On August 15, 2019, around 6.30pm, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Operation Crush from the Ilemba Hausa Police Station, led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kazeem Abonde, arrested eight suspected members of the One Million Boys Confraternity during an initiation.

“The suspects were arrested at No. 15 Alado Street, Shibiri, where they were being initiated into the cult by one Yusuf Abu, 20.

“The police also recovered three sharp cutlasses, a fetish calabash with dangerous charms and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspects. They were charged and remanded in prison custody.”

In a similar development, Elkana said an anti-crime patrol team led by Inspector Dada Akawu from the Mushin Police Station nabbed a traffic robbery suspect and recovered firearms from him.

According to him, the team intercepted one red Honda motorcycle with number plate AKM 300 VJ on Ogunmokun Street, Mushin.

He said, “The motorcycle was conveying four persons reasonably suspected to be members of a gang of armed robbers terrorising Mushin and its environs. The gang mostly operates on motorcycles for easy access to escape routes after operations.

“The gang was responsible for a series of robberies reported in the area with the same mode of operation. They take advantage of traffic situations and dispossessed unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables such as handsets, laptops, bags and money.

“The rider refused to stop and was given a hot chase. The leader of the gang, known as Taofeek Oladiran, 26, was arrested, while others escaped in different directions to crowded areas in Akala, Idi-Oro. The motorcycle was recovered.

“One bag containing a locally-made pistol, one expended cartridge, 11 live cartridges and a jacket decorated with charms were recovered.”

Elkana revealed the identities of the fleeing suspects as Afeez, Michael and Tolu, adding that the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad had taken over the case and launched a manhunt for them.

He added that investigation was ongoing in the case.

In another development, a 15-year-old boy, Issa Jidda, and two others, Alli Jumah, 19, and Adamu Mohammed, 22, have been arrested by the operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad for robbing two ladies of their mobile phones.

The suspects, who were said to be notorious for robbing unsuspecting victims on the Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Isheri, Ojodu/Berger and Agidingbi, Ikeja areas, were arrested on Saturday around 8.46pm on the Olowopopo Way, Ikeja, after robbing their victims.

The trio were arrested by the RRS patrol team after it responded to a distress call that some robbers on a motorcycle were operating in Agidingbi.

The officers trailed the robbers to the Olowopopo Way, where a motorist, who got a hint that the suspects were being chased, hit their motorcycle to prevent them from escaping through the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The owners of the two android phones snatched at the Gateway Estate, Isheri, and Agidingbi, identified the suspects and the phones were retrieved from them.

According to one of the suspects, Jidda, the gang had been operating on the Long Bridge, Isheri, Unilag Estate, Gateway Estate, Ojodu/Berger, the New African Shrine and Agidingbi since May 2019.

The primary school dropout stated, “I was invited to join the gang by Adamu; he is the leader of the gang. I have gone out on robberies with them on seven occasions. We rob in traffic, especially on the Long Bridge. Our targets are mobile phones, wallets and jewellery.

“We avoid operating in Kara because we live there and our colleagues might see us. We sell the stolen phones and share the money. The motorcycle that we use is owned by Alli. We operate using knife and dagger as our arms.”

They have been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad for further investigation.

The state Commissioner of Police, Muazu Zubair, urged the residents to continue to cooperate with the police in order to address the security challenges in the state.
