I personally think that "Clinic Matters" is a great TV comedy. In every aspect I think I will score it 10/10! I pray for more inspiration for the production crew to sustain it in Jesus name!
Education / Re: Nicknames Your Teachers Were Given In School And How They Earned It. by gladostix: 11:55am On Mar 12, 2013
At my school, we called our English teacher "Bianca", although I am not sure how the name came about but that was what we called her. One of our teachers had bold tribal marks on his face so we called him "Mr. 11, 11"
My brother-in-law said that at his school, they nicknamed their Bio. teacher "MR OBOLI", apparently, he had to drop his wife off at work every morning before coming to work (the wife was a nurse) so there was a day that the students put up a cartoon with a man in his shirt and tie pounding yam in a mortar with a baby strapped to his back while a woman dressed in a nurses uniform sat in the sofa reading newspaper. By that they meant that the man was a woman-wrapper and they put an inscription "ILOBO", Needless to say they got into serious trouble for that.
Career / Salaries For Teaching And Non-teaching Staff In Nigeria by gladostix: 11:03am On Mar 12, 2013
Hi,
Please I need some help. I am doing a proposal for a person who wishes to establish an International School in Lagos. We have drawn up a salary scale but I need people who are experienced to judge the scale and let me know where and how to make adjustment. The projected school fees is between 50,000 -70,000 and it is a nursery/primary school. We are working at say we have 100 students on roll:
(all money is in Naira and per month)
The Director -200,000
The Head of Montessori -60,000
Teachers -40,000 (12 of them)
Nannies -20,000 (2 of them)
Bursar -40,000
Nurse -30,000
Cleaner- 18,000
Driver -20,000
Security officer- 20,000
Store keeper -20,000
P/T Teachers -10, 000( 3 of them)
total monthly salary would be almost 1,000,000

Please, I would really like to know how to amend this scale if it is not ok. Thank you

@shineno, you will need to state the reason that you can remember and as for stating the exact date, I will get back to you on that shortly.

I think it is worth the while. You make life-long friends and then you can learn about a different culture as well. I served in Benue State and till today, I still feel very close to the Tiv people, I learnt a lot about their culture which I didnt know about before. And I made some friends that I still cherish till date. When I applied for a job 3 years ago, all the exprience I could present that was most relevant for that position, was that which I gained during the youth service year, so you never know. If you really can, I will say "do it".

@tayoTFC,
Thank you for your post. I will like to share a story to further butress your point. About a year ago, someone approached me to help him get a school place for the child and I agreed. This child was just 13 years old. I told him to get a visiting visa for the child and he did. But a lot of people told him that the UK law has changed so it will be impossible to get the child into school. I told him to ignore them. So he decided to ask another person living in London and this person told him that the only school the child can attend is a private school where they charge about £25,000 a year. When he told me I told him that while that is true, I live outside of London and I know of some private schools that will take less than that in my part of the UK, he decided to trust me.
So the first school I found said school fees was £27,000. Then on further search, I found one that charges £11,000 so he said I should apply for that one. I did but the child failed the entrance exam. In desperation I began to do more research until I found a Catholic school that charges only £5,500!. More so, they dont do any entrance exam, as long as the child will have a guardian living in the same area as the school (and that would be me), this child could pay the £5,500. When this man told his friend in London, the friend said it was a lie that no private school in the whole of the UK charges such low school fees. So I invited both of them to come with me to the school, they did and the friend was so shocked to find out that this was true.
So the school took a deposit of just £100, gave us all the forms and documents that we needed for the student visa application, the child went to Nigeria and within 4 weeks, got student visa and 2 months later travelled down to resume at this private school. I was able to negotiate payment of fees in installments. So this man was very grateful.
Yes, there are laws in the UK and they are constantly reviewed but to each of these laws and rules, there are different ways of approach.

So the issue of deportation can never happen to me unless I outrightly break the law. I have since obtained further leave to remain, Indefinite leave to remain and then British Citizenship and each of these applications took at least 2-4 months to fall through because they needed to do all the necessary checks, so with all these checks, they would have found that I did something wrong since, in'it?

What ever you want to do, seek advise but do your own thorough checks so that you will get the best bargain.
Thank you.

@constantk, that will be great! I will look forward to meeting someone live from this forum.
You know, I met my husband through a christian dating website (fushion 101) and we've now been married 7 years and blessed with 3 children. He is the most wonderful man on Earth and my in-laws are simply fantastic!

@constantk, my email is omolua2004@yahoo.com. If your job is well paying in Nigeria and you already visit the UK, I will really recommend that you consider the options very well before you make a move and make sure you secure a job before you resign your old one. Something else that will help is to make sure you upgrade your knowledge in your area of work so that you will rise up the rank and be able to train others under you.
Cheers

Hi, I am a very passionate teacher of at least 14 years teaching experience (7 in Nigeria and nearly 8 in the UK) I originally trained in Nigeria, I made a 2.1 in an "education degree" and then went and obtained my UK QTS via Cambridge University. I have done so much research in the field of curricullum development and its delivery in our 21st Century global world. One area of my interest is Gifted and Talented children. When I go to train teachers in Nigeria, I emphasize the need to identify and adequately meet the needs of these group of younsters so that they can be given the proper support they need to develop full potential. I also make provision for students with SEN. I could go on and and on ... teaching is my life and a very highly respectable profession here in the UK. Very hingly rewarding as well, trust me ...the pay here is good!
So would anyone be interested in this? indicate below and I shall set the ball rolling.... free of charge.
Cheers.
