‘They accused me of being a Yahoo boy and beat me till my hand dislocated’ – Nigerian man accuses police of brutality

A Nigerian man, Arowolo Oluwafemi Samsom, has accused some policemen at the Sagamu Road Police Station, of brutality.

Samsom, in a Facebook post on Thursday, January 6, claimed that the police officers labelled him a Yahoo boy (internet fraudster) without evidence and beat him until his “hand dislocated.”

“I was brutalized by police telling me I’m a yahoo boy without evidence….. SHAGAMU ROAD POLICE STATION IKD…. Name of police: A.Y.” he wrote.

“They beat me till my hand dislocated. Now at Igbobi feeling the pain. Please this must stop. Pleading to the Oba of Ikorodu, Oba Shotobi and other traditional rulers take action. This bullying is too much.”

Nollywood Actress Amanda Oruh has taken to her social media page to reveal how her brother was almost used for ritual in December by their cousin.

She said the incident occurred on December 29th and her brother was vomiting blood and bleeding from the nose after his drink was poisoned by the ritualist and his gang members who took him to a community in Abia State, after arriving her hometown Ohafia for the Christmas holiday.

Oruh said her brother who narrated the incident, revealed that their cousin didn’t bulge in spite of his plea.

Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Isa Idris opened up on why Nigeria’s international passport is scarce.

Gladtune reports Mr Idris made this known on Saturday during a virtual media interaction, where he blamed delays in production of passports on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Idris stressed that global lockdowns that accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic, and the difficulty in accessing foreign exchange in the country affected the production of passports.

He, however, assured Nigerians that by March 2022 the delay in renewing international passports or getting new ones will be a thing of the past.

Idris stressed part of the efforts towards addressing the problem is the launch of the enhanced e-passport, which he noted has been embedded with improved features.

He said it has been launched in the United Kingdom and in some Nigerian centres; Kano, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.

The Federal Government has disbursed about $300m to the poor and vulnerable in its National Social Register through N5,000 cash transfers in four years.

This was disclosed by the National Coordinator, National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office, Mr Apera Iorwa, in an exclusive interview with reporters.



The agency, which is under the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, coordinates the National Social Safety Net Programme.

10 kidnappers were killed on Friday December 31, when the Special Force Squad of the Nigerian Navy Base, Onitsha stormed the Ochan Forest, the Anambra State base of kidnappers.

While some members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds, five of the kidnappers were arrested.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Mohammed Bello has tested positive for COVID-19.

Bello in a statement personally signed by him on Friday said he started feeling sick on Tuesday and his test result for the virus came out positive on Friday morning.

He also added that experts informed him that his case is mild because he took two shots of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike recently recalled a chieftaincy dispute which occurred in his community that led to the arrest and detention of his father, uncle, brothers, and himself on a trumped-up murder charge.

He stated this while eulogising the contributions of Emmanuel C. Ukala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, on the occasion of the latter’s 65th birthday party held on Tuesday night in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Wike noted that it took the intervention of Ukala as their lead counsel for him and his family to be discharged and acquitted during the chieftaincy ordeal. “There was a time that the entire family was charged for murder. As at that time, I was reading law at the then Rivers State University of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University,” he stated.

England is set to open temporary field hospitals to contain a possible overspill of inpatients due to a surge in coronavirus cases, the national health service said Thursday.

Fuelled by the highly contagious Omicron variant, daily cases have ballooned, standing at more than 183,000 on Wednesday.

NHS England said it would start building the structures in the grounds of eight hospitals in cities including London, Bristol and Leeds from this week, with each designed to house around 100 extra patients.
