A group of women said to be from Methodist Church Nigeria were spotted praying at the popular OPET junction in Umuahia, Abia State on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

According to eyewitnesses, the women were wailing in prayer for God to send good leaders to save Abia State.

Facebook user, Victor Dickson who shared a video from the scene said the women were "pleading and uprooting every faulty foundation in Abia state.".

Police, Others Hold Show Of Force As Okada Remain Ban In Lagos

The Lagos Police Command in collaboration with sis­ter agencies on Wednesday held a show of force across the state in preparation to enforce the ban of Okada in additional local government areas in the state.

The officers from Nigeri­an Army, LNSC, LASTMA and Federal Road Safety Corps converged on the com­mand’s headquarters, Ikeja, before heading out for the show of force.

This development is com­ing following the ban of oka­da in additional four local government in the state.

The four LGAs and the LCDAs under them were Iko­si-Isheri LCDA, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA in Kosofe, Isolo LCDA, Ejigbo LCDA in Ishodi, Bari­ga LCDA, Shomolu and Odi- Olowo LCDA in Mushin.

The command stated that in readiness for the Septem­ber 1 commencement of enforcement of total ban on motorcycles in the state, se­curity agencies embarked on a show-of-force.

Spokesperson for the Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said, “Total en­forcement on motorcycles commences in additional four LGAs on September 1, 2022 and the command in readiness embarked on a show of force.”

The Commissioner of Po­lice, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, has how­ever warned that violators of the ban would be prompt­ly arrested and prosecuted.

“Law abiding citizens are enjoined to go about their lawful duties without fear of harassment or intimida­tion,” he stated.

A bridge in Birninkudu is in tatters following rain-induced flash floods in Jigawa state.

The bridge is along the old Kano-Maiduguri highway and is at the verge of collapse, an eyewitness report says. It is, according to the report, the second bridge in the area to cave under pressure from torrential rains.

Those travelling to Bauchi, Gombe and Yola from Kano are advised to avoid the Birninkudu-Babaldu axis due to the latest bridge damage.

NDLEA uncovers 442 parcels of Crystal Meth in heads of smoked fish in Lagos

Operatives of the National Dr#g Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered no fewer than 442 parcels of Crystal Methamphetamine concealed in heads of fishes at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, August 14, said the fishes were packed in cartons for export to Dubai, UAE through the SAHCO shed of the airport.

“The 11.90kg consignment was brought to the SAHCO export shed of the airport on Friday, August 5, by a freight agent, Adekunle Oluwapelumi Paul, 32, from Yagba West LGA, Kogi State.

He was promptly arrested upon the discovery that the seven cartons he presented for export contained parcels of the dangerous drug wrapped with foil paper and concealed in the heads of hundreds of smoked catfish.”.

Minister of States for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has said the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) has tried to ensure the prices of food items do not go beyond what it is now.

The legal practitioner said Buhari and the APC must not be judged by the sharp increase in prices of food and other commodities.

Keyamo insisted that it would be a lazy way to campaign if the opposition parties tried to judge the APC government by comparing the prices of food items in 2022 and what they used to be seven years ago when the APC took over.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Keyamo maintained that those in opposition were deceiving the younger ones by laying emphasis on the hike in food prices.

According to him, Nigerians have to take into consideration what is happening to the economy globally, saying the Federal Government has tried to keep the prices of food at what they are today.

While clarifying that he did not mean the prices of food items do not matter, Keyamo maintained that the cost of items could have been worse if not for the efforts of the APC government.

“It is a lazy way to campaign by saying what is the price of tomato then, what is the price of tomato today. Prices have never been stable. So they (the opposition) should not deceive the younger ones. We are going to expose them soon.

“It is a lazy way to campaign using the price of tomato and rice. We are going to have a debate, we will put the global macroeconomics on a scale and put Nigeria on that scale as where Nigeria is. It is a lazy way to campaign.

“I am not saying the prices of tomato and rice do not matter. But I am saying it is a lazy way to campaign. It could have been worse. You cannot take Nigeria out of the global context. Nigeria is not in isolation,” he said.

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, on Friday said that the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will perform exactly like President Buhari if he emerges victorious in the 2023 polls. He disclosed this on Friday night while featuring in an interview session on Channels TV's Politics Today.


You may recall that the presidential candidate of the ruling party elected Festus Keyamo and the former national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomole, to serve on the frontlines of his presidential campaign structure.

Yesterday, there were controversies trailing Mr. Oshiomole's interview after he claimed that Tinubu could not be blamed for the mishaps during the course of President Buhari's administration. He explained that the former Lagos governor had little or no influence on the current administration.

Mr. Keyamo said that some popular media outlets in the country had misinterpreted Oshiomole's words. He added that the former Lagos governor was not distancing himself from the records set by the Buhari-led administration.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has called for peace in the South-East region of the country after his bail application was denied by a federal high court judge. 

 

LIB reported earlier that Justice Binta Nyako of the federal high court in Abuja dismissed the application on Tuesday June 28,  describing it as an abuse of court process having been previously denied.

 

Speaking after the court judgement, Kanu urged the people of the Southeast to “remain calm” and make the zone peaceful.

 

He said; 

 

 “It is what we expect. But I want our people to be very calm. I want Biafra to be calm, calm, and very peaceful. We are fighting to defend our people, not to kill them.
