Oyo Govt Withdraws Criminal Charges Against Ooni’s Ex-Wife Naomi, Oriyomi Hamzat, School Principal Over Ibadan Stampede

The government of Oyo State has dropped the charges filed against the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, Queen Naomi Silekunola, the owner of Agidigbo FM, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and the principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Abdullahi Fasasi.

The charges were initially slammed on the trio following the tragic stampede in December 2024 that resulted in the deaths of at least 35 children during a children’s festive party.

The defendants were visibly relieved, smiling and exchanging pleasantries after the trial on Thursday, signalling their release from the charges.

Oyo State’s Attorney General, Abiodun Aikomo, confirmed the decision after the court session, speaking to the media.

During a live broadcast on Facebook by SaharaReporters, Aikomo stated: “It was an unfortunate incident that led to the death of many. And you see, in law, whenever death occurs and the circumstances are not natural, the law will take its course. So the state responded by filing charges against the persons implicated in the investigation.

In the course of doing that, we actually wanted to prosecute but the affected persons showed empathy. They showed compassion. And as far as human beings can do, they try to persuade the feelings of the affected parties. And the circumstance, we felt, the essence of prosecution is not to kill people or persecute them. It is in the interest of justice to discontinue these charges, and that is what happened today.”

This decision follows a lengthy legal process. Prior to this, the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan had granted bail to Naomi, Hamzat, and Fasasi. Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin delivered the ruling after the defendants had presented their bail applications.

Naomi was granted bail of N10 million with two sureties, while Hamzat and Fasasi were also granted bail on similar terms. The court also ordered that the suspects deposit their passports with the court and restricted them from giving interviews, limiting their public engagements.

The case began after the devastating stampede during a children’s event at Islamic High School, Bashorun, in December 2024, where dozens of young children lost their lives in a chaotic rush. The public and the victims’ families were left heartbroken by the tragic event, one of the most harrowing incidents in recent memory in Oyo State.

The prosecution team, led by the Attorney General of Oyo State, had initially opposed granting bail to the defendants, highlighting the seriousness of the charges and the need for justice for the victims. However, the defense team argued that the accused had cooperated with the investigation and did not pose a flight risk.

Governor Makinde had previously insisted that those responsible for the stampede must face trial but also expressed openness to granting bail during the proceedings.

The defendants were visibly relieved, smiling and exchanging pleasantries after the trial on Thursday, signalling their release from the charges.

Nigerian singer Timaya has raised concerns over the continuous destruction of farms in Bayelsa by Fulani herdsmen, urging the Nigerian government to take immediate action.

Taking to his social media handle on X (formerly Twitter), the singer wrote:
"Please, the government should do something. They are destroying farms in BAYELSA. Aboki, take your cows inside and feed them properly. This is so sad."

Timaya’s reaction comes after a group of protesting Bayelsa women shared their harrowing experiences with Fulani herdsmen, who were allegedly uprooting their cassava to feed their cattle.

In a viral video, one of the women recounted witnessing the herdsmen pulling out cassava from their farmland and feeding it to their cows. She also revealed that a lady who confronted the herdsmen was beating and rap*d

PoliticsHilarious Video Of Oyinbo Man In Lagos Complaining About Inflation In Nigeria by Glimpsetv(op): 1:00am On Mar 18, 2025
A trending video shows an American man, married to a Nigerian woman, passionately lamenting the rising cost of living in Nigeria.
Holding a bottle of water, he complained that he used to buy the same bottle for just 100 naira, but now it costs 250 naira.

He added that even a bottle of Coke now sells for 500 naira, and Uber fares have become outrageous.

He explained that he spent 7,000 naira on a trip to Mushin, whereas that amount could have taken him to Lagos Island.

He went on to express his frustration, saying that 200 naira can now only get a very tiny portion of puff-puff. When he attempted to buy garri for 200 naira, he was told the minimum amount he could get was 400 naira. "How do people even eat?" he wondered aloud. He also noted that pure water, which used to cost just 20 naira, is now selling for 50 naira.

What makes his reaction even funnier is the way he speaks Pidgin English, frequently hissing in frustration as he expresses himself. The video, shared by his wife on their Instagram page, has since gone viral, attracting a lot of reactions.

NYSCNYSC Official Absconds As Sowore Escorts Embattled Corper, Rita, To LGI Office by Glimpsetv(op): 5:34pm On Mar 17, 2025
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, alongside others, showed solidarity with Rita Uguamaye, a serving corps member, after she was summoned to appear before the Local Government Inspector (LGI). However, upon arrival, the LGI was nowhere to be found throughout their stay at the local government office.

Sowore shared a video of their arrival at the LGI office and wrote on his X handle (formerly known as Twitter):

"The journey with youth corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye has commenced in Lagos. She is scheduled to appear before the LGI today, and we will escort her to their offices. We are all en route with attorneys."

However, after waiting for several hours without the LGI showing up, Sowore made another post, stating:

"We arrived at the Eti-Osa LGI office of @officialnyscng with youth corper Ushie Rita Uguamaye in Lagos. She was scheduled to appear before the LGI today, and we escorted her with attorneys @mrfestusogun, @yinka_oyesomi, and @justiceojienoh. However, the LGI official absconded, failing to show up throughout our stay."

Reacting to the post on X, a follower named Adekunle Oderinde demanded the prosecution of the absent LGI official, saying:

"The NYSC officials who abandoned their duty post should be made to answer for their absence. Since they claim to know the law, they should also face disciplinary proceedings."

Rita Uguamaye, a serving corps member, had earlier cried out after being threatened by an NYSC official for refusing to take down a video in which she criticized President Tinubu’s government, calling it “terrible” and complaining about the economic hardship in the country. The video has since gone viral, sparking widespread discussions in Nigeria and even attracting international attention, especially after Amnesty International reacted to the saga.

The corps member has received overwhelming support from many notable Nigerians and politicians, who are urging the NYSC not to victimize her simply for expressing her views on the government.

A heartwarming viral video has earned a group of secondary school students widespread praise after they surprised their teacher with gifts following his child's naming ceremony.

In the video, the students can be seen walking up one after the other to place various items on a table at the front of the classroom while their teacher remains focused on writing on the board. When he finally turns around and sees the thoughtful gifts, he is visibly overwhelmed with emotion.

Sharing the video on TikTok, the students captioned it, "How We Surprised Our Civic Teacher After His Naming Ceremony."

While this kind of gesture has become increasingly common in tertiary institutions—where university students frequently surprise their lecturers with gifts—it's remarkable to see younger students embracing the tradition. Social media personality Lege Miami has issued a stern warning to VeryDarkMan, demanding that he apologize for his remarks about President Bola Tinubu and his son, Seyi Tinubu.

In a recent video, VeryDarkMan urged Seyi Tinubu to represent Nigerian youths at the federal level. While sharing his experience from his visit to China, he expressed admiration for the country’s technological advancements and development.

However, in the same video—which has now gone viral—VeryDarkMan made critical remarks about President Tinubu and his administration. He described the president as old and suggested that those working with him have "dusty brains covered in cobwebs."

He went on to emphasize that Seyi Tinubu has a unique opportunity to advocate for Nigerian youths, given his proximity to power.
