William Ekong scored the game's opening goal in the 67th minute from the penalty spot. Before South Africa equalized in the final minute of play thanks to a superb penalty strike from Mokoena, the skipper handed Nigeria a brief lead.

After Khuliso Mudau missed a spectacular opportunity five minutes into stoppage time, South Africa came dangerously close to winning the match and rocking Nigeria.

As Nigeria regained control and put Bafana Bafana under pressure, defender Grant Kekana was sent off in extra time. Despite this, the team held out for penalties, but Stanley Nwabali saved two of them, and they ultimately lost.

In the Africa Cup of Nations Group F match at the Laurent Pokou Stadium on Wednesday, The Democratic Republic of Congo missed plenty of opportunities and ended up drawing 1-1 with Zambia, Who took the lead early on due to fast thinking before being quickly pegged back.
