The AFCON 2023 Semi-Final between Nigeria and South Africa ended in a 1-1 draw. The match had to go to penalties shootouts, where the Super Eagles won 4-2. William Ekong scored the game's opening goal in the 67th minute from the penalty spot. Before South Africa equalized in the final minute of play thanks to a superb penalty strike from Mokoena, the skipper handed Nigeria a brief lead. After Khuliso Mudau missed a spectacular opportunity five minutes into stoppage time, South Africa came dangerously close to winning the match and rocking Nigeria. As Nigeria regained control and put Bafana Bafana under pressure, defender Grant Kekana was sent off in extra time. Despite this, the team held out for penalties, but Stanley Nwabali saved two of them, and they ultimately lost. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RDYWTFp-0E |

In an AFCON 2023 quarterfinal encounter, Nigeria defeated the Angolan national team by a close margin (1-0). The Angolan squad persevered despite being clearly superior to their opponents, and they nearly qualified for the Semifinals. The only goal of the match came from Ademola Lookman in the 41st minute, assisted by Moses Simón. Victor Osimhen scored in the 76th minute, but VAR disallowed it due to an offside position. Angola almost responded just before the hour mark. Substitute Zine latched onto Show's through-ball and beat Nwabali, only to see his first-time shot bounce back off the post. With this outcome, the Super Eagles made it to the competition's semifinals for the sixteenth time in their history and are now waiting to see who of South Africa and Cape Verde will emerge victorious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gduvre4iT5o |
