It was the handiwork of the devil, said a 28-year-old man, Mr. Bethel Samuel, yesterday, while confessing to Rivers State Police officers how he raped a three-year-old girl at Rumuolumeni community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Samuel, who said he was an aide to a Pentecostal church clergyman in Port Harcourt, told the police that he had carnal knowledge of the girl at his principal’s house. Narrating the incident to the Public Relations Officer of the command, Nnamdi Omoni, and the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuolumini, Mr. Bethel Samuel described his action as the handiwork of the devil.

Samuel said: “It is stupidity that led me to sexually harass the little girl. If I will be given a second chance, I must surely be a good person. Police and the parents of the girl should have mercy and consider what happened as an act of the devil.


“I am the Personal Assistant to my pastor; we were organising our crusade, going out to paste crusade posters when my pastor called me to say he forgot something at home. He directed me to go to his house and bring some money. When I got there, I saw children playing and grabbed one of them. That was what happened.

“It is purely the handiwork of the devil. I don’t know what happened; all I know is that I am not happy with what is happening to me. I am calling on the parents and the police to have mercy on me. I am promising the government and the

The Sultan of Sokoto has said suicide bombers are going to hell. He made the statement today when music act, Tuface Idibia visited him soliciting for peace. The Sultan who welcomed Tuface with open hands said;

“Religion is a personal choice of an individual. Therefore, nobody can force any religion on anybody. Suicide bombers are going to hell.”

He also urged him to continue to use his talent in promoting peace and peaceful coexistence amongst Nigerian youths.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspected robber, Ebere Nwankwo, for allegedly attacking and raping a male victim in the Lekki area of the state.

Punch Metro learnt that 20-year-old Nwankwo, after dispossessing his victim, identified only as Martins, of the sum of N22,000, allegedly had anal sexual intercourse with the victim.

This is just as two other robbery suspects – Jelili Babatunde and Ramon Haruna – were arrested by the police in the Isokoko, Agege area, while dispossessing pedestrians of their valuables.

A Punch correspondent gathered that in the Lekki incident, which occurred last Thursday, Nwankwo, who was armed with a gun, sneaked into Martins’ apartment on Goshen Estate in the Lekki area at about 4pm.



He was said to have ransacked the victim’s room and found N22,000.

It was learnt that Nwankwo thereafter allegedly ordered 16-year-old Martins to get on the bed, while he had sexual intercourse with him.

The suspect was afterward arrested by operatives from the Maroko Police Division, who were on a patrol in the area.

A source said the victim’s screams during the intercourse alerted the policemen.

He said, “The robber had threatened to force his victim to an Automated Teller Machine, where he would get more money from him. In the meantime, the suspect asked his victim to lie on the bed and he started having sexual intercourse with him.

“Some policemen, who were patrolling the estate, heard screams from an apartment and they drew close. When they forced the door open, the suspect and the victim were found having anal sex.”

Our correspondent gathered that Nwankwo told the police in his statement that he had sex with his victim to get some magical powers.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the robbery suspect would be charged to court with sodomy and stealing.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three men for allegedly raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl in the Agric, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
It was reported that the suspects – Kingsley Oke, Henry Osadere and Francis Ekwe – were arrested in the Majidun, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, before they were transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja.

It was gathered that the suspects, who lived in the same area with the parents of the teenager, identified only as Ijeoma, brutally and allegedly raped the girl in August 2016, after the mother went for a vigil.

Punch correspondent gathered that Ijeoma, a primary 6 pupil, was later discovered by the mother to be pregnant, and she reported to the police at the Owutu division.

The police said the three men were arrested on September 9, 2016. Speaking with Punch Metro, Ijeoma said one of the suspects threatened to kill her if she disclosed the rape to anyone.

She said, “It was Uncle Kingsley (Oke) who first raped me. On that evening, he called me and said he would send me on an errand. When I went to his room, he immediately locked the door.

“I started begging him, but he forcefully carried me to his bed and raped me. On the second occasion, it was one man called Baba Ijebu that molested me. I had been sent to his house to collect an item.

“While in his house, he raped me. I cried, but he said I would die if I told anyone. The third man was Henry (Osadere). I don’t want to talk about it again.”

Forty-three-year-old Osadere, however, denied raping Ijeoma, saying she was a wayward girl.

He said, “She came to my place and said she had many boyfriends. I asked how a teenager like her had several boyfriends. Anytime she came to my apartment, she would steal some items. That was why I sent her away.

“I was surprised that she said I was one of those who raped her. She said she had a three-month-old pregnancy. I don’t know the other suspects.The girl lied against me. She knows the people who messed around with her. It was because I stopped her from coming to my house that she lied against me.”

The Champions of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season stand to win N40 million from the Merit Award of the League Management Company (LMC).

A baby boy who looks like an 80-year-old man actually has a rare condition which causes him to look aged quickly.

Gave birth to in Magura, Bangladesh, he has wrinkles, hollow eyes, a shrunken body and a thick layer of hair on his back. Local doctors were left stunned as to what the cause of his ageing is - but they believe he has progeria.

The condition which affects just one in four million often restricts children from having a normal life and causes their body to age faster than it should. A doctor, who had been treating him, said: 'The baby does not look like a new born at all.

'There are prominent sings of ageing such a excessive wrinkles and rough skin texture.'

A middle-aged woman identified as Agnes on Sunday in Abakaliki lost the pot of rice she was cooking to thieves.

Some pressmen who visited Agnes’ residence behind Nnodo Secondary School, Amike-Aba on Monday report that she was still in shock over the incident.

It took repeated appeals by the correspondent to make Agnes talk, as she maintained that her husband had barred her from speaking further on the issue to avoid negative attention to the family.



“I came back from a village-meeting late on Sunday and put the rice on fire so that my family could have their dinner and eat the remnant on Monday morning.

“This apartment, as you can see, has no kitchen so we cook in the space in front of the house, likewise other occupants of the building,” she said.

Agnes said that as she went inside her room to fetch some condiments, she was delayed by the attention she had to give to her crying child.

“I gave attention to my child who was crying and by the time I came out to continue cooking, the pot of rice had vanished, with the stove still enkindled.

“After I recovered from the shock, I started screaming which attracted my husband, family members and neighbours who were all as stupefied as I.

“When it was established that no occupant of the building took the pot, it dawned on us that the act was perpetrated by a thief who exploited the vulnerability of the improvised kitchen,” she said.

The woman declined further comments but her neigbour, Justin Mbam-Egbe, noted that the such situation had re-awakened security consciousness among the occupants of the house.

“This is the first theft case we are experiencing and we will henceforth be security conscious to avert and cub future occurrences,” he said.

A private security consultant in Abakaliki, Dr John Odikwa, blamed such incident on the current economic recession in the country.

“The country has degenerated to a level that people now steal alot of stuffs like pots of rice and soup and with the yuletide approaching, the society should be ready for serious security challenges.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi police command, Mr George Okafor, described the incident as funny and noted that it had not been reported to the command.

“It is difficult for such incidents to be reported but we assure the citizens of the state of adequate protection of their lives and properties,” he said.

Havelange, who was suffering from a respiratory infection, died early today. He was 100.

Kashim Shettima, the Borno State Governor today flagged off the distribution of food items and farm outreach targeting 40,000 victims of the Boko Haram insurgency through the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which donated one million dollars to the Borno State Government as a post conflict intervention that is meant to support victims who are returning to their communities.

Governor Shettima launched at the support with the distribution of 25 kilogram bag of rice and 10 kilogram bag of beans to each of 1,100 households at Mainok village in Kaga local government area, 45 kilometers away from Maiduguri. The Governor announced that officials of the State Government working with the Gates Foundation used the $1m to procure the food items and commenced funding of 100 hectares of farm where beans is being cultivated.

While speaking on the good gesture, the Governor said;“We are grateful to God for creating people like Mr Bill Gates and his dear wife, Melinda. These leading lights of philanthropy across the world have shown love to the good people of Borno State at a time we are on the ground and looking for any hand to hold in trying to lift ourselves up'', he said.

People who know me well will tell you that the easiest and fastest way to get money out of me is to tell me you're sick. I hate seeing people that helpless. Over the years, I've donated and also used my platform to raise money for several sick people, including Mayowa Ahmed. Early morning on July 28th, I received a call saying the #SaveMayowa campaign was a scam. That the lady was terminally ill and the family had no intentions of using the money raised for her health to treat her as they had no invite from the hospital in Atlanta, neither did she even have a visa to the US. They wanted me to blog it quickly so people could stop donating. I found it hard to believe at first but it was coming from people who were directly involved in raising money for the sick girl. I sent someone to LUTH to investigate, he got there and found chaos. The Police was already involved, people were being questioned, some folks were shouting, he spoke to people in the hospital and many seemed confused. I spoke with those who had called me, and they said 1000%, the whole thing was a scam.

And I sincerely believe that at the time they told me this, they genuinely believed it to be a fact. I don't think it was done maliciously. After they sent me documents showing the hospital in Atlanta was not really involved in Mayowa's treatment and LUTH medical directors denied knowledge of a fund raising for the sick girl, I believed it to also be a fact!
