PoliticsOdinkalu, Fani-kayode In Twitter War Over Hate Speech. by GODDYGEE91(op): 1:07pm On Oct 01, 2015
A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that he owes nobody any apology for describing Fulani herdsmen as tsetse flies and murderers.

Fani-Kayode was responding to tweets by the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria Chairman, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, who accused him of hate crime.

Odinkalu, had on Twitter on Wednesday, lashed out at Fani-Koyode, promising to lodge a complaint against him to the Nigerian Police Force.

According to the NHRC boss, it is not proper to ask Nigerians to leave a particular section of the country.

Fani-Kayode, he added, should not have resorted to calling an entire race names for an offence committed by a few individuals.

Odinkalu tweeted, “Chief Falae’s abduction is a crime, but to make that basis of a campaign against a race as Femi Fani-Kayode did is hate speech. It is hate speech to leave individual responsibility and describe a race as tsetse fly, locust and leeches.”

He added that it was “unlawful to advocate mass removal of Nigerians from parts of their own country.”

Such a comment, he said, should not have come from a former minister and lawyer.

But Fani-Kayode, who recently changed his name on social media to Olufemi Olu-Kayode, disagreed with the NHRC chairman, declaring that he owed nobody any apology.

He tweeted, “It is those gutless cowards that seek to play down the murder of others that are guilty of hate crimes and not those that call a spade a spade.”

He added, “Those that say that we must remain silent when aliens invade our land, rape our women and kill our people shall fail. We will resist evil. I support the call by the Afenifere that all Fulani herdsmen should be banned from the South-West. We do not want these killers in our midst.”

In an article, the ex-minister justified the call by a section of the South-West that the cattle rearers should leave the region.

The call followed an allegation that the herdsmen were responsible for the recent kidnap of a chieftain of the Afenifere, Chief Olu Falae.

“These herdsmen have become the pests of our nation. They are like the East African tsetse flies: wherever they go they suck blood out of their hosts and, like the locust, they destroy everything in their path. They are like leeches: they indulge in a parasitic mode of nutrition and they suck the blood of the carcass until their victim is left for dead.

“Like the Arab supporter of APC, they are only known for the most hideous of things. This includes terror, intimidation, theft, murder, rape, abduction, mutilation, violation of the rights of others, destruction of the land and crops of farmers and destruction of property.

“Anyone that doubts this should ask the people of the north central zone what they have been suffering in the hands of these herdsmen for the last 50 years. This is especially so in Plateau, Benue, Niger, Kwara, Nassarawa, Taraba and Adamawa states.

“Yet, up until 20 years ago this was essentially a northern problem and it did not affect the south. Sadly, that has changed. It has now become a national plague that knows no boundaries and whose poison threatens to consume us all.

“In the last few years, the herdsmen have attacked, ravaged and pillaged many rural communities south of the River Niger and they have slaughtered and raped thousands of innocent people in the South-South, the South-East and the South-Western zones of our country,” Fani-Kayode wrote.

Germany prints its constitution in Arabic for refugees

Germany has translated the first 20 articles of its constitution into Arabic and printed 10,000 copies for distribution at registration centers, a move meant to help speed up the integration of about 500,000 asylum seekers into German society, politicians said.
Germany is expected to take in about 800,000 refugees this year — a number much higher than its neighbors, who have been more reluctant to resettle people fleeing poverty and violence in Afghanistan, Iraq, Eritrea, Syria and elsehwere.
Now, politicians are worrying about how to best integrate refugees with little or no knowledge of the German language or culture, Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said Wednesday.
While no one would be forced to give up her religion or “change her private life,” Gabriel told German newspaper Bild, newcomers would be expected to respect democratic values, including, Gabriel said, the separation of church and state, gender equality, gay rights and freedom of expression. Anti-Semitism would not be tolerated, he added.
“There is a culture of freedom and responsibility, of rights and duties, which we don’t want to give up,” Gabriel told the newspaper. “People who come here must not only learn the German language, but also the rules of the game of living together,” he added.

Trump vows to send Syrians back if elected president

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has said he would send back Syrian refugees taken in by the US if he is elected president.
Trump said during a rally in New Hampshire on Wednesday that he was worried the refugees could be disguised members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.
“I am putting the people on notice that are coming here from Syria as part of this mass migration, that if I win, if I win, they are going back, they are going back, I am telling you, they are going back,” Trump said.
His remarks came the same day Russian warplanes began air raids in Syria’s centre and north – their first military engagement outside the former Soviet Union since the occupation of Afghanistan in 1979.
“Look, if Russia wants to go in there, [it] would have been nice if we went in as a unified front, to be honest. But if Russia wants to go in there and knock out ISIS (ISIL) and maybe stabilise, this big migration with 200,000 people into the United States…” Trump later reiterated to CNN.
“If I win, I’m going to say it right now and I’ll say it to you, those 200,000 people – they have to know this and the world will hear it – are going back.
“We’re not going to accept 200,000 people that may be ISIS. We have no idea who they are. And I’m telling you now, they may come in through the weakness of (President Barack) Obama,” but would return to their homeland if Trump makes it to the White House, he said.

NDLEA rejects judge in fresh Kashamu suit

Buruji Kashamu
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has asked Justice Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos to withdraw himself from a fresh suit filed by Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Kashamu, in the new suit, is seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining the NDLEA and the Attorney General of the Federation from seizing his property.
The new suit came after the failed effort by the NDLEA to extradite Kashamu to the United States of America, where he is said to be wanted for alleged drug-trafficking offences.
Justice Buba had on June 23, 2015 reaffirmed a May 27, 2015 order of Justice Okon Abang of the same court restraining the NDLEA and others from extraditing Kashamu.
In the new suit, Kashamu said he had got winds of the moves by the NDLEA and the AGF to seize or take over his properties, including a 24-flat housing estate at Egbe and several hectares of land on Lekki Peninsular, Lagos, worth over N20bn.
He claimed to have acquired the properties by dint of hard work and legitimate business as opposed to the respondents’ allegation that the properties were acquired with proceeds of drug-trafficking.
His lawyer, Mr. Ajibola Oluyede, claimed that allowing the respondents to seize Kashamu’s property would occasion a breach of his fundamental right to own property as provided under section 43 and 44 of the 1999 Constitution.
Already Justice Buba had, by an interim injunction dated June 29, 2015, restrained the respondents and their privies from interfering with Kashamu’s right to own property either in Nigeria or anywhere else, pending the determination of the main suit.
But at the resumed proceedings on Tuesday, the NDLEA appeared in court with an application seeking to discharge the interim injunction.
The NDLEA’s lawyer, Mr. J. N. Sunday, claimed that the interim injunction was granted against public policy, adding that it amounted to tying the hands of the Federal Government’s agencies from discharging their legitimate mandates.
The anti-narcotics agency also asked Buba to disqualify himself from the case, saying it was afraid that since Buba had adjudicated over Kashamu’s previous case and gave judgment, it might be impossible for him to reach a different conclusion in the fresh case, which stemmed from the earlier case.
On his own part, counsel for the AGF, Mr. Oyin Koleosho, in a preliminary objection, challenged the court’s jurisdiction to hear Kashamu’s suit.
The counsel said the judge had no jurisdiction to entertain matters bordering on landed property title.
Justice Buba adjourned the case till September 30, 2015 to enable the parties to regularise their processes.

Following a briefing on the abduction of elder statesman, Chief Olu Falae, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to take all necessary action to ensure the safe and speedy rescue of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Falae was abducted from his farm on Monday by suspected Fulani herdsmen who are demanding N100m ransom for his release.
Buhari according to a statement on Wednesday by his spokesman, Femi Adesina condemned the “callous and reprehensible kidnapping of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and elder statesman.”
The President assured Falae’s family, friends and other concerned Nigerians that the Federal Government would do all within its powers to ensure his swift release.
Buhari, who had requested constant updates from the police and other security agencies on efforts to find and rescue Falae, also denounced the recurring incidents of criminal abductions across the country.
He assured all Nigerians that ongoing efforts to significantly enhance the security of lives and property in the country would continue, adding that under his leadership, Nigerians, irrespective of their status, “will no longer be left at the mercy of criminal elements.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has split from his wife Annie.
The pair have parted ways after months of speculation about their relationship.
The Gunners manager and Annie got a judge to issue a “separation of bodies” judgement in June.
It means they are free to see other people – but it’s not a full divorce.
The 65-year-old manager is still expected to support Annie financially.
CrimePolice Shot 33 Year Old Man In Lagos. by GODDYGEE91(op): 1:11pm On Sep 23, 2015

Abiodun Balogun| credits: Family
There was tension in the Ebute Oniyanrin in the Ilaje, Bariga area of Lagos on Tuesday after a police sergeant, Adekan Adesola, shot dead a 33-year-old man, Abiodun Balogun.
The police, however, said Abiodun, known asAnarchy, was a wanted cultist, and died during an exchange of fire.
PUNCH Metrolearnt that Abiodun, who worked as a moulder in a block industry, had been called by a friend at about 8am to come to the Oniyanrin area as Sallah gifts were going to be shared by politicians.
It was gathered that Abiodun, who reportedly went with an unidentified friend, was however, manhandled by the police sergeant.
It was learnt that Adesola, who was not in uniform, allegedly dragged Abiodun on the ground, before shooting him.
Abiodun’s friend was said to have escaped from the scene.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased’s mother, Aishat Balogun, who was called on the telephone that her son had been shot by a policeman, had gone to the Bariga Police Division, where the sergeant was attached and where the corpse was taken to.
The woman was reportedly barred from entering to see Abiodun.
WhenPUNCH Metrovisited Ajileye Street where the Baloguns’ lived, sympathisers lamented the death.
Aishat, who spoke with our correspondent in Yoruba, claimed that the police sergeant had been looking for Balogun as a result of her son’s refusal to join the Eiye cult group which dominated the area.
She said, “I was still with him on Monday, and we were discussing how we would celebrate the Sallah. I did not know that evil was lurking. It was around 8am today (Tuesday) that someone called me and said the sergeant had shot Abiodun dead. The lie they are spreading now is that he was a cultist.
“But the fact is that Adesola is a notorious policeman in our area. He has been shooting at people, claiming that they are cultists. But Abiodun was not a cultist. They had been luring him to join them, but he refused. I do not know the fate of my son presently. I have not been allowed to see him at the police division.”
Our correspondent, however, learnt that the corpse was still at the Bariga Police Division as of the time of report.
Abiodun’s wife, who did not want her name in print, said they were together in the morning when her husband received a call that he should come for Sallah gifts at the Oniyanrin area.
She said, “We were together till around 7am when that phone call came in. So, he went to the area to collect his gift.
“That was where Adesola met and shot him. The policeman was in mufti, and Abiodun was not carrying a gun. He did not have any weapon.”
Other workers and friends of the deceased at his block industry who spoke withPUNCH Metroclaimed that Abiodun was murdered in cold blood by the policeman.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, however, said Abiodun was a wanted cultist by the police, adding that the 33-year-old was shot dead during an exchange of gunfire.
He added that the matter had been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, for further investigation.
He said, “He was a wanted cultist by the police. He died during the exchange of fire. He was known in the area asAnarchy. The case has been taken to SARS for further investigation.”
