Following its seventh consecutive year of record sales, the world’s number one manufacturer of premium vehicles started 2018 with another record: the BMW Group has never sold so many cars in January as in this year. A total of 169,538 customers took delivery of a BMW, MINI or Rolls-Royce premium vehicle, an increase of 3.8% on the same month last year.

“We are driving the biggest model offensive in the company’s history and as availability ramps up in the course of the year, this will continue to come through in our sales results,” said Pieter Nota, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Sales and Brand BMW. “Deliveries of the new BMW 5 Series sedan, for example, are up by 40%, while the introduction of the new BMW 6 Series GT has far more than doubled overall BMW 6 Series sales in the month. As we introduce more exciting new models like the all-new BMW X2 and increase the supply of the BMW X3 in the second half of this year, I’m confident this record month is the start of another record year,” Nota continued.

Having delivered well over 100,000 electrified vehicles in 2017, the BMW Group is looking to build further on that success and is targeting 140,000 electrified vehicles this year, thereby maintaining its leading position in the premium battery-electric/plug-in hybrid segment. With sales of BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI Electric vehicles increasing by 36.7% compared to January last year, things are well on track to achieve that target. Worldwide, a total of 7,155 customers took delivery of a premium BMW Group electrified vehicle in January. More than a quarter of all BMW and MINI vehicles sold in Scandinavia were electrified. Other very strong markets include Great Britain/Ireland, where electrified vehicles accounted for 11.1% of total BMW and MINI sales and the USA, where the proportion of electrified sales was 5.2%.

Global BMW brand sales increased by 3.4% in the first month of 2018, with a total of 148,400 vehicles delivered to customers worldwide. A variety of different models across the portfolio contributed to this new all-time best January. The new BMW 5 Series sedan was once again a strong growth driver, with global sales up 39.6% (25,268). The success of the BMW 1 Series sedan in China helped overall global BMW 1 Series sales increased by 26.4% while the BMW X1 (22,185 / +10.6%) and the BMW X6 (3,128 / +5.8%) were the main growth drivers in the BMW X family, as production of the new BMW X3 ramps up through the second half of the year.

The MINI brand achieved global sales growth of 7.0%, with the delivery of 20,929 vehicles to customers in January. The strongest growth driver was the MINI Countryman, which doubled its sales compared to January last year. A total of 6,022 customers took delivery of this model in the month, with one out of seven choosing the plug-in hybrid version of the car.

 After celebrating a new record sales year in 2017, BMW Motorrad has achieved a very successful start to the new year. A total of 8,455 BMW Motorrad customers took delivery of a new motorcycle or maxi-scooter in January, an increase of 12.7% compared to the same month last year.

My fiancee and I have been in a relationship for 5 years now. I met her since she was in secondary school. We both love each other and she is very nice, loving and supportive too.

We have talked and started planning on settling down and that should before the end of the year but I am beginning to have a second thought.

The problem is not my fiancee but her mom. The woman is very nice and welcoming but lately, she did something that I am not comfortable with. Last week she sent me a text asking for financial assistance. That her daughter (my fiancee) is yet to pay her house rent at school and that my fiancee younger brother is yet to pay his registration fee. And so she had asked me to loan her some amount before the end of the month when she will remit it. That she considered me a son and that's why she confided in me. Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha has called on the general public to stop associating Fulanis with Killer Herdsmen.

Okorocha on Sunday said that it would be wrong for anyone to link the Fulanis to the killings by herdsmen in the country.  PoliticsNGR gathered that he defended the Fulanis while addressing members of the Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim led by its supreme head, Solomon Alao, during a courtesy visit to the government house, Owerri.

Speaking on whether the Imo State Government has created a cattle colony, proposed by the Federal Government, Okorocha, said there was a cattle market in the state and not a cattle colony, stating that the state government encouraged indigenes to go into cattle business because it was lucrative and that government would continue to support them with provision of ranches.

The governor also said it was absolutely wrong to link the Fulanis with the killer-herdsmen, pointing out that the herdsmen who kill should be treated as criminals, and should not be used to stigmatize the Fulanis, whose men and women had largely contributed to nation-building.

“The fact remains that no one in this country has the right to take another person’s life in whatever disguise. For herdsmen to kill anybody is not right and that must be condemned,” he said.

So, how do Nigeria states measure up on their debt profiles and ability to service it? We took a look at the debt and dept-per-capita of Nigeria states.

Lagos leads the pack with more than 1.44trillion naira in debt. Kaduna, Edo, Cross River & Enugu make up the top 5.

Looking at the debt-per-head (per capita) figures, each Lagosian owes an average of N25,288. Meanwhile, Edo comes second with each citizen owing N18,538. Cross-River comes third with each citizen of the state owing an average of N15,995. (See the chart below for the full list)

It is important to note that, while a state like Lagos may lead the league tables for indebtedness but then, the state equally has the most capacity to pay back/service it. States like Taraba, Borno, Yobe might have the least debt stock, but then, these are states that have the hold the least promises as financial entities. In other words, they have the least capacity and opportunity to borrow money.

THE Concerned Indigenes of Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has said it has started making the process of recalling Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central senatorial district for working against President Muhammad Buhari and the senatorial district.


Speaking the newsmen in Kaduna on Monday, the leader of the group, Aliyu Saidu contended that the senator had not only betrayed his constituents but had declared war on them.

‘We the people of Kaduna Central unanimously support President Buhari in his effort to fix the economy and rid Nigeria of corruption and insecurity.

‘We send Senator Shehu Sani to the Senate to work towards the success of Buhari government and not work in the direction of it.

However, he said to the disdain of the group the Senator’s political behaviour and performance so far were a direct contrast to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the district.

‘So far, he has nothing to show for except social media posts insulting the president and cheering his enemies. By his actions, the senator has caused more damage to the president and our great party as well as his actions have harmed our collective interest as a senatorial district.

‘it is regrettable that the party has failed to call Senator Shehu Sani to order for his open belligerence against the government and our party.

‘No individual no matter how highly positioned is above the party. We the people of Kaduna Central cannot afford to wait till 2019. We are ready to correct this anomaly through recall.

‘We hereby inform the world that we shall be exercising our available constitutional options by initiating a recall process against senator Shehu Sani. This will send a strong message that the people of Kaduna Central will never again entrust their destiny in the hands of any representative who is willing to ignore their needs in order to appease to a political godfather elsewhere.

In a question and answer session, the leader of the group affirmed that they can not wait for Tinubu’s committee because they were fed up with the Senator’s attitude.

The Federal High Court sitting in Wawa Cantonment, Kainji, Niger State, on Monday sentenced 35-year-old Haruna Yahaya for terrorism offences.

The convict, whose left arm and left leg are crippled, was convicted for being a member of the proscribed Boko Haram terrorist group and participating in the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014.

He was said to have participated in the group’s attacks in Chibok, Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State and Gabsuri town in the Damboa Local Government of the state.

Yahaya had on Monday pleaded guilty to the two counts preferred against him by the Federal Government but pleaded for mercy, saying he was forcefully conscripted into the terrorist group.
But the judge who sat in one of the four special courts established by the Federal High Court to fast track the trial of over 1,000 suspects said the court was “not fooled” by Yahaya’s story.

The court noted the convict was “using the misfortune of his handicap to draw sympathy”.
The judge, therefore, ruled that the 15 years sentence passed on the convict who had been in detention since 2015 would commence counting from Monday.

It reminded some about that rich kid in their school who made them feel intimidated because their dad had a Benz. Some argued the car's nickname was Shagari while some said it was called Murtala (what name did you call it back then?)

The argument got more intense as some said the owner must have gotten it for more than N10m and some others said it shouldn't have been more than 200k.

I work in a private company in somewhere Lagos. I got this job after some months of desperate job hunt.

When I started this job in January 2017, I thought I would grow and get some promotions maybe within the shortest time frame. So I gave my all.

Now the problem is that my boss wants to engage me for 24 hours. She calls me anytime she feels like to process some documents and respond to clients' inquiries. Even at midnight and beyond. At first, I thought it was because of the pressure we faced during the season but this continued even as I type this.

I have tried to curtail this behavior of hers but she is not giving up.


The most annoying part of this is that whenever her children are given assignments in their schools, she would tell them to give it to me to solve for them without minding my personal schedule. Her children attends one of the best schools here in Lagos.

I have personally told her to respect my unofficial hours and avoid adding unofficial assignments to my job description but she wouldn't listen.

At a point, I tactically delayed the assignment for days and she started complaining that I am incompetent.

I have made up my mind to quit the job at any slightest opportunity but the role I play in the company is very critical that I can't just wake up one day and resign.

Though she rarely praises me, a couple of her friends have told me how she boasts of my competence and the innovations and values I have added to the company..

Note that three months into the job, she offered me a one bedroom flat at her boys quarters and I didn't hesitate to accept because the place is somewhat closer to the office than where I lived. And sometimes, I join her in the car to the office in the morning thereby saving some fare cost.

Please, I need all the ideas you can give me to handle the situation.

That's why some women do not make good wives, they never know when they cross the line, next time ask for a job specification, she's abusive and most likely not a good wife or mother, she should know that putting her kids trough helps her understand their academic flaws and fix them. But?

The Presidency on Saturday said President Muhammadu Buhari’s extended family was bereaved with the deaths of two members in quick succession.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, announced this in a statement made available to journalists.

“President Muhammadu Buhari’s extended family has been struck by the loss of two senior members who died within a few hours of one another,” the presidential spokesman said.

Shehu identified one of the deceased as Hajiya Halima Dauda.

He said the deceased who was buried in Daura on Saturday morning was the President’s niece and younger sister to his close associate and nephew, Mamman Daura.

“She died at about the age of 56, leaving behind 10 children, four of them male and six female including one of President Buhari’s Personal Assistants, Mohammed Sabi’u Tunde,” he added.

He said the burial was attended by a Federal Government delegation led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.

Others on the team were the Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika; two businessmen- Alhaji Isma’ila Isa and Sayyu Dantata; three Senior Special Assistants to the President -Sarki Abba, Ya’u Darazo and Shehu; the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary, State House Jalal Arabi and the State Chief of Protocol, Ambassador Lawal Kazaure.

Shehu said the Buhari family had earlier on Friday buried Hajiya Ai’sha Alhaji Mamman on Friday.

He identified the second deceased as the wife of the President’s older brother, Alhaji Mamman.

Receiving condolences, Malam Mamman on behalf of the family and the Emir, Alhaji Umar Faruk for the people of Daura Emirate thanked God for the lives of the deceased and all the visitors for sharing the moment of grief with them.

Among those received by the family in Daura were the Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris; Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu; and a former Military Governor of Kaduna State, Brig.-Gen. Jafaru Isa (retd.).
