borntoexcel2000: The State Security Service has invited Kassim Afegbua, the spokesperson of Ibrahim Babangida, to appear before it, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
The invitation came via a telephone call from the secret police and it asked Mr. Afegbua to be at its headquarters no later than 11 a.m. Thursday, both Mr. Afegbua and his lawyer, Kayode Ajulo, told PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday night.
The invitation comes hours after Mr. Afegbua turned himself in at the Force Headquarters in Abuja after the police declared him wanted for writing a disputed statement on behalf of Mr. Babangida, who led a military junta that ruled Nigeria from 1985 to 1993.
Mr. Afegbua signed the statement for Mr. Babangida on Sunday, in which the former military ruler expressed his misgivings about President Muhammadu Buhari and called for a younger leader to emerge in 2019.
“We will honour the (SSS) invitation by tomorrow morning,” Mr. Ajulo told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone Wednesday night. “We will be there, if that is how they want to run this country, we’ll see how far they can go with this.”
Mr. Afegbua’s ordeal in the hands of federal authorities had been strongly condemned by civic organisations, including Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, who warned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately back off the matter because it infringes on Mr. Afegbua’s rights.
The authorities have not been able to answer questions of whether Mr. Babangida filed any complaint against Mr. Afegbua, or what parts of the statement Mr. Afegbua signed were capable of inciting the public as the police alleged.
Mr. Afegbua said Mr. Babangida remained solidly behind him and that the former leader had been making efforts to ensure that no injuries would be inflicted on him by federal authorities.
vanessaRN: Nigerian Customs has finally arrested Oscar Okafor, the man that allegedly imported 661 Riffles into the country through Tincan Island Port last year.
has urged the people of the state to adopt any lawful means to defend themselves from herdsmen.
He lamented that the call became necessary because the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris who should enforce security and safety of the people was playing politics with the unending killings in the state.
The Governor who spoke Tuesday during a live Phone-in Benue Radio Programme, ‘Issues of the Moment’, monitored in Makurdi, accused the Inspector General of Police of becoming the mouthpiece of the murderers of the Benue people.
Governor Ortom said, “The Police said they arrested Livestock Guard members and termed them a militia group fromBenue. It’s just a diversion from the main issue.
“If you want to hang a dog you give it a bad name. That is what the Inspector General of Police is doing, he is the mouthpiece of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore. That is what the man represents. He should therefore resign his current position to serve full time in his new job.
“So bad, they plant weapons on people and take their pictures and claim they are Benue Livestock Guards. Those people are not members of our Livestock Guard. It is just a planned thing.
“The fact is that I am facing a lot of intimidation and blackmail but I am firm and strong because I have trust in God.
“There are threats even on my life, they are on record that I reported to the Police and those people responsible have not been arrested.
“People say they are going to kill the Governor, is that not grievous enough to arrest the people concerned?
“Miyetti came out and owned up and threatened that bloodshed will continue inBenue. Is it not enough evidence for the Inspector General of Police to arrest one person out of the group?”
A seven-year-old boy identified as Wisdom Adefemi, has accused his father, Olusegun Adefemi pictured above, of sexually abusing his three-year-old sister five times and attempting to penetrate his anus and that of his five-year-old brother, Godspower. Wisdom made the allegation when he spoke at a press briefing organized by the Lagos state police command in Ikeja yesterday February 5th. Wisom said his father had subjected him to beatings because he refused to allow him have anal sex with him. “My daddy slept with my younger sister from here (pointing at the minor’s private parts) He put her on the floor and did it. It was not once, it was five times. He wanted to penetrate me from the back, but I refused. He wanted to do the same thing to my younger brother, Godspower. When we refused, he beat us up.”he said
Breifing newsmen, the state commissioner of police, Edgal Imohimi, said the suspect was arrested on February 2nd at 6, Ipakan Street, Ijede, Lagos State, after an official of Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Adekoya Sesan, reported the incident. Imohimi said investigations carried out by the command, shows that the suspect injured his daughter in her private part.
''The man injured his daughter in the private parts as a result of forceful penetration. He caned the girl’s siblings each time they did not allow him to penetrate them from the anus. The girl has been taken to Mirabel Medical Centre for examination and treatment, while her siblings have been accommodated in a temporary home''
When interrogated by newsmen, the suspect said he was shocked by the allegations leveled against him by his own son.
“I am shocked at the allegations. I am innocent. I have never done it and I will never do it. I heard that my children accused me of defiling their sister. They never said it before me. I thought that they (the police) would bring them (my children) before me and ask them so that I can hear it from them, but they did not. You should know they are children and can be lured by biscuit or sweet to say anything. I do not know where that came from. I know I usually beat up my kids when they do something wrong. I don’t think this is an offence because I don’t want my children to become wayward. Their mother left over a year ago and since then, I have been with them. I do bricklaying jobs sometimes. At other times, I work as a conductor to provide for our needs.” he said
The police boss said the suspect would be arraigned in court soon.
And all effort to reach the young man has proved abortive as his phones has been switched off. Please push to front page this is injustice and this young man deserves some justice. Let’s share this till the authorities can get a hold of it Lalasticlala please do The needful.

Realsman405: The estranged parents of Tottenham Hotspur and England star, Dele Alli are pleading for the superstar to accept them back in his life, after they had abandoned the footballer.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is born to a Nigerian father, Kehinde Alli, a multi-millionaire businessman and British mother, Denise who both abandoned him when he was still a child.
He was born in Milton Keynes, Bucks, in April 1996 just over a year after his parents first met in a nightclub. At the time Kehinde was studying for a Masters at De Montfort University.
He and Denise, then a full-time mum of two, married after a whirlwind romance and broke up three years after Dele was born.
In this heartbroken interview with Mirror, the estranged pair came together to speak about the ordeal in a desperate bid to rebuild their relationship with their son, who earns £60,000-a-week.
Dele’s mum Denise who couldn't contain her tears narrates how she now cries herself to sleep at night over the ordeal, while his father explains that only thing missing in his life is his first-born son.
Kehinde, 47, told the Sunday Mirror: “I just do not understand what we have done wrong. He refuses to speak to me and it feels like he’s been taken from us. But I won’t give up on getting him back.”
Dele’s mum Denise, 53, added: “I’m a very miserable person because I get so sad that Dele is missing out on his family and we’re missing out on him.
“I want to be able to hug him and let him know we all love him to bits.
“I’m not interested in his money, I’d love him the same if he worked in McDonald’s. We just want our son back.”
According to reports, the former couple have not been able to see him since he signed for Tottenham in February 2015.
Recalling him leaving, Denise said: “He was in great spirits and said, ‘I love you mum’. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see him. It still leaves me shocked.”
It was also reported that Ali was best man at his dad’s second wedding to Lola in 2006, at that time, he was living with his dad in Houston, Texas.
At the age of 11, Ali returned to England to leave with his mom in Milton Keynes, where he started his football career with junior side City Colts.
Kehinde says: “It was hard for me to let him go but I knew it was the best thing for him and his ambition.”
Denise added: “When he was about 13 Dele began training at MK Dons five days a week. So for convenience he began staying at his best friend’s house during the week, before coming home at weekends. It was hard to let him live away from home, but we didn’t have a car and I was finding it hard to get him to training myself.
“It has been said that I was suffering from alcoholism and I gave him up because I couldn’t look after him, but that is a lie. I wanted to give him the best chance of achieving his dream, but he was still my son and I was there for him whenever he needed me.
“He was never adopted by his friend’s parents – I would not have allowed it. My kids are my world.”
The heartbroken mother also recalled the last time she tried to talk to him outside Tottenham’s White Hart Lane stadium after a match there last year.
Denise recalls: “I didn’t have a ticket for the game but I went to the ground because I wanted to try and see Dele.
“I waited outside after the match and when Dele came out I quietly said to him. ‘Dele... it’s me... your mum’.
“He didn’t stop. He just looked at me, said he was busy and drove off. I was in tears, it was heartbreaking.
“Some fans who had overheard asked if I was really his mum and why he was treating me like that. I told them, ‘I just don’t know’.”
“When I got home I had a call from a man who said he represented Dele. He accused me of shouting to Dele, which I didn’t, and said if I tried to do it again I’d be banned from the ground for life. It was horrible.”

MisterGrace: Melaye To Bello: Sell Kogi Properties, Meet Me In Court
Tom Olasunkanmi
The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial District, Sen. Dino Melaye has sent a strong warning to the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, advising him to stop his plan of selling monuments that belong to the state under the disguise of wanting to boost the economy of the state.
This warning was contained in a Press statement issued by the legislator today.
In the statement, Melaye said that "There is no gainsaying the fact that Kogi State is a civil service state. Although blessed with resources that remain untapped, the state has avoidably relies on allocations from Abuja to keep body and soul together over the years".
"Despite a poor Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) profile occasioned by the foregoing coupled with bad governance syndrome, Kogi has remain one of the underdeveloped states of the federation irrespective of its natural endowments".
Against this backdrop, he said it is unthinkable that the current state government under Governor Yahaya Bello will contemplate trading off what is left of Kogi's glory for momentary financial gains under the pretext of bolstering the state's finances.
"I therefore urge the Kogi State governor not to sell, as planned, the following edifices or legacies built by the past administrations in the Confluence State as doing so will portray Yahaya Bello as a prodigal son of the state".
"The state properties/legacies are Kogi House in Abuja; Mega Terminal Park; Kogi State Liaison Houses in Kaduna and Lagos; Commissioner Quarters; State Assembly Quarters; and Confluence Beach Hotel".
"For the records, no past governor of Kogi State since inception contemplated selling the state's monuments or properties like the ones listed above and as bequeathed by successive administrations, hence Bello must listen to the voice of reason otherwise his prodigal decision will be challenged in court by me as a representative of the people" Melaye concluded.

nwakibie3: Millions of bank depositors will be exposed to risk while trying to use their Nigerian-issued MasterCard and Visa debit/credit cards for international transactions in the coming weeks as the Egmont Group is poised to expel the country from the group, PREMIUM TIMES has learned.
In July, 2017, the Egmont Group, a global network of 152 Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) suspended the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) at its 24th plenary of the Heads of the FIUs in Macao.
The group explained that the NFIU was suspended because the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, under which the NFIU was situated, was leaking sensitive information to the media.
The Egmont Group also accused the EFCC of blackmailing individuals with the confidential intelligence at its disposal.
“The Heads of FIU made a decision, by consensus, to suspend the membership status of the NFIU, Nigeria, following repeated failures on the part of the FIU to address concerns regarding the protection of confidential information, specifically related to the status of suspicious transaction report (STR) details and information derived from international exchanges, as well as concerns on the legal basis and clarity of the NFIU’s independence from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The measure will remain in force until immediate corrective actions are implemented,” the group said in a statement.
But days after, an EFCC source told PREMIUM TIMES that the NFIU was suspended following a “false petition” sent to the Egmont Group by an embittered former director of the NFIU.
“What Nigeria is facing today may have been self-inflicted as certain citizens with vested interests in the running of the NFIU are known to regularly feed the world body of FIUs with false information regarding the situation in Nigeria,” a top official in the EFCC who did not want to be named told PREMIUM TIMES.
“The issues that culminated in the recent suspension of Nigeria are predicated on a false petition by a former director of the NFIU who, embittered by the manner of her dismissal, painted a false imagery of siege on the NFIU with the objective to compromise information from the Egmont Secure website,” the official said.
Following the suspension, Nigerian Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, in a memo numbered: SH/OVP/DCOS/NFIU/ addressed to Chukwuka Utazi, chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, explained that he had set up an ad-hoc committee to reposition the NFIU and restore its membership of the Egmont Group.
The memo listed Mr. Utazi as the Chairman of the ad-hoc committee. Other members include Kayode Oladele, a member of the House Representatives, Abdullahi Shehu, and representatives of the Federal Ministries of Justice, Finance and Interior. Others are the Executive Secretary, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), a representative of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC) and a representative of the EFCC.
The committee was charged with facilitating the legal and regulatory measures to bring about financial and operational autonomy of the NFIU, and to make other recommendations necessary to boost the country’s capacity to deploy financial intelligence to fight crime.
The committee was expected to turn in a final report by the end of August 2007. However, nothing has been heard of its recommendations.
PREMIUM TIMES could not reach Mr. Utazi for comment.
Laolu Akande, Mr. Osinbajo’s spokesperson, did not answer calls to his mobile phone. He also did not respond to a text message sent to him requesting for comments.
When reached for comments, spokesperson of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, promised return with a statement. He, however, failed to do so hours after he made the promise. The EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, had however said earlier that the NFIU operates with a large degree of autonomy.
The implication of expelling Nigeria
While the status of committee’s recommendations remains in the dark, Premium Times has learnt that that a proposal to permanently expel Nigeria from the Egmont Group is on the agenda of the Egmont Working Group and Heads of FIU meeting to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina between March 2 and 7.
If the group goes ahead with the proposed expulsion, transactions done with credit and debit cards issued in Nigeria could unnecessarily be flagged as suspicious. The liability of foreign transactions will also be shifted to Nigerian card users.
Tunde Ajileye, an employee of digital payment company, Interswitch, explains what a liability switch is: “We would have liability shift. What that means is that, if there is an issue and they (banks, payment companies) want to adjudicate, normally they adjudicate before they move the money to any party but with a liability shift, what it means is that they will first move money from you to the other party and if they now decide that you are not at fault they will then move the money back to you. The risks becomes higher and the odd is staked against you if there is an issue with your transaction.”
Mr. Ajileye also said another implication of expelling Nigeria from the group will be that Nigerians will be more prone to be suspected of money laundering.
“Money that comes in from Nigeria will become more suspect. Normally if you do a suspicious transaction report to the NFIU and the NFIU shares that report to other international agencies to track but if we are expelled we really can’t share. We also do not have access to information, so we become more prone to money laundering.
“For instance, if someone has been flagged internationally because we don’t have access to that information, we won’t know, and the person(s) can continue to do their transactions unlike today where we can get such information,” he said. NFIU autonomy
The Egmont Group is said to be uncomfortable that the NFIU still operates under the control of the EFCC, which is accused of being meddlesome.
Last July, the Senate passed the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Agency Bill, which grants autonomy to the NFIU one week after it was presented to the upper legislative chamber.
The bill is, however, yet to be passed by the House of Representatives.
