HealthAlcohol Leaves 2,014 Students With Mental Disorders In Mozambique by Godson222(op): 8:02am On Jul 17, 2017
The excessive consumption of alcohol beverages has left more than 2,014 young people with mental disorders in Maputo, Mozambique.

Mozambique’s Office of Prevention and Combat Against Drugs (GPCD) disclosed that the young people are between the ages of 16 and 25.

Saea Jafete, GPCD director, is quoted by state-controlled as saying that the group affected includes students, mainly from secondary school.

Jafete said: “Students mix alcohol with soft drinks and it becomes difficult for teachers to notice that their students are consuming alcohol and these are the cases we have seen in hospital units in Maputo.”

The office has held lectures and campaigns in several schools in Maputo to curb the menace.

Jafete also appealed to parents and guardians not to give their children large sums of money.

“Love for our children is not measured in money, especially large amounts. Most of the time teenagers do not know how to manage money, and end up slipping into the world of drugs,” she warned.

Since the beginning of the year, 94 people have been detained for involvement in the sale and consumption of drugs.

Maputo city police commander Bernardino Rafael has declared that several drug rings have been broken up.

No fewer than eight (cool soccer fans lost their lives on Saturday in a stampede at Demba Diop stadium in senegalese capital, Dakar.

The incident occurred during a match between two local teams, the sports minister said.

According to the Sport Minister, A fight broke out between fans of rivals US Ouakam and Stade de Mbour and police fired tear gas to break it up and it triggered the stampede.

A local media reported that many people were also injured as a wall collapsed at the stadium.

At least 49 others were seriously injured in the confusion, APS said, while firefighters were on the scene along with large numbers of ambulances.

Senegal’s safety record at large gatherings has been heavily criticised this year after the death of dozens of people at a religious retreat in April when a fire ripped through makeshift shelters.

Deadly stampedes at soccer matches have been common in Africa, where safety standards are low.

At least 17 people died and scores were injured in a stampede in a match in Angola in February, when hundreds of supporters stormed the stadium.

Godson222:
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said his disagreement with the House of Representatives over his ministry’s budget should not be misconstrued, stressing that he is not fighting anybody over the budget.

Fashola who made the clarification on Monday while fielding questions from State House correspondents, insisted that “there is no problem between me as an individual and the National Assembly, and let me make it very clear that many of the Senators and honorable members are my personal friends; so, you don’t fight your friends.

“I say that the words that we use will potentially redirect our attention from what the real issue is. I don’t think that a feud is the right word to use.

“A disagreement; yes, a very healthy disagreement. Don’t forget that we are not disagreeing about who should head what. We are not disagreeing about who should take what share of the national cake.

“We are disagreeing about how to develop Nigeria and that for me is very healthy for our democracy.’’

He noted that the nature of his disagreement with the House of Representatives was not personal but geared towards finding the best ways of implementing the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan of the Buhari presidency.

Fashola expressed belief that the leadership of the National Assembly are on the same page with the executive on the implementation of the economic agenda of the present administration.

He however admitted that it was possible that “in the heat of the moment while trying to canvass our different positions we are misconstrued as fighting but I am not fighting anybody.’’

He added that his responsibility both as a minister and a citizen will be “to continue to engage,’’ stressing that he had no intentions of fighting anybody.

The minister however expressed confidence in the leadership provided by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, the Senate President and the Speaker.

He added that his responsibility both as a minister and a citizen will be “to continue to engage,’’ stressing that he had no intentions of fighting anybody.

The minister however expressed confidence in the leadership provided by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, the Senate President and the Speaker.

Godson222:
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Monday said no fewer than 300,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) benefited from its free medical services in two years.

Shinkafi said that the medical interventions included general surgeries, obstetrics, gynaecology and ophthalmology.

He explained that exercise, conducted in Abuja, Yola, Maiduguri among others, enabled no fewer than 300,000 IDPs with different ailments to receive free treatment within the period.

“The exercise is part of the NAF medical intervention designed to alleviate the surgical condition of IDPs in Borno State.

“About 100 IDPs with special cases are selected each from three camps; Dalori, Banki and Bama, to benefit from the exercise.

“This is part of a comprehensive intervention towards improving the health status of the IDPS”.

Shinkafi added that NAF had also established two clinics at Dalori and Bama IDPs camps, noting that the health facilities were equipped with modern gadgets.

The chief medical officer revealed that some 150 eye surgeries were done in Maiduguri in 2016 while over 35, 000 IDPs received free medical treatment in the area in the last two years.

“More than 10, 000 IDPs were also treated at the NAF emergency center in Bama.

“We are also providing psycho-social therapy to traumatized IDPs and cancer screening services,” he added.

EducationRe: Escapees Chibok Schoolgirls Read Letter To Donald Trump (see Content Of Letter) by Godson222(op): 8:14am On Jul 09, 2017
Godson222:
Two of the Chibok schoolgirls, Joy Bishara and Lydia Pogu, who escaped from Boko Haram captivity in 2014, read a letter applauding U.S. President Donald Trump during a recent visit to the White House.

The White House released more photos of the girls on Saturday, saying during their visit, Joy and Lyida “read the President a letter about their experience”.

On the night of April 14, 2014, Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno.

An excerpt of the letter is below:

“Mr. President, we urge you to keep America safe and strong.

“We know that some people are trying to discourage you.

“Do not be discouraged. You are right to keep American safe and strong.

“Not only for America. But for the world.

“If America is not safe and strong, where can people like us look for hope, when there is danger?

“Finally, we urge you to keep making America prosperous.”

Trump and his daughter, Ivanka, hosted the Chibok schoolgirls during their visit, the White House said.

The Boko Haram insurgents broke into the school and kidnapped the girls, who were sitting for their final exams.

“But approximately 50 of the girls have escaped, including Joy Bishara and Lydia Pogu, who visited President Donald Trump, and his daughter, Ivanka Trump, at the White House last Tuesday.

“The girls are recent graduates of Canyonville Christian Academy in Oregon, and they were accompanied by the school President, Doug Wead.

“The President and Ivanka were both deeply moved by the girls’ visit,” the statement by the White House read.

The Chibok schoolgirls’ visit coincided with the U.S. State Department’s release of its annual Trafficking in Persons Report.

“In the wake of the report, the two Chibok schoolgirls’ visit to the White House was a reminder that the survivors of the scourge of human trafficking are heroes whose courage can inspire us all,” the White House said.

“Let us recommit ourselves to finding those still in the shadows of exploitation, and let us celebrate the heroes who continue to shine on the darkness of human trafficking.”

HealthRe: Eleven Teenagers Died Of Botched Circumcision In South Africa by Godson222(op): 6:18pm On Jul 08, 2017
Godson222:
According to authorities, eleven teenagers have died of botched circumcision within the period of two weeks during the winter initiation season in South Africa.

All the deaths are in Eastern Cape Province, are of circumcision-related deaths, according to Provincial Department of Traditional Affairs.

“The death toll of initiates in a short period is alarming,’’ Fikile Xasa from the department said.

He added that the deaths occurred in spite of “Zero Deaths” campaign launched by the government.

Government-dispatched teams were currently monitoring the situation across the country, according to Community Development Foundation of South Africa (CDFSA), which deals with the safety of initiates.

It, however, said over 22 boys were rescued from illegal initiation schools in the province.

The department stated that six other initiates died in the province when their initiation school caught fire, noting that their funeral was held on Saturday.

Circumcision is viewed a sacred practice in African cultures, marking a male’s transition from child to adulthood.

In South Africa, young males must traditionally be circumcised as passage to manhood.

According to the CDFSA, over 70 boys died at initiation schools in 2016 and scores of others were hospitalised in the Eastern Cape alone.
