Science/Technology › FBI Offers $3million Reward For Notorious Hacker by GODWINGODSON(op): 3:42pm On Feb 25, 2015
This article was first published in Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. State Department and FBI on Tuesday announced a $3 million reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Russian national Evgeniy Bogachev, the highest bounty U.S. authorities have ever offered in a cyber case.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation also issued a "Wanted" poster for Bogachev, who is charged in the United States with running a computer attack network called GameOver Zeus that allegedly stole more than $100 million from online bank accounts.
Bogachev has been charged by federal authorities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with conspiracy, computer hacking, wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering in connection with his alleged role as administrator of GameOver Zeus.
He also faces federal bank fraud conspiracy charges in Omaha, Nebraska related to his alleged involvement in an earlier variant of Zeus malware known as "Jabber Zeus."
Bureau officials said they believed Bogachev was still in Russia. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
Joseph Demarest, head of the FBI's cyber crime division, said the agency is aware of 60 different cyber threat groups linked to nation-states. He did not identify which countries were believer to be behind these groups.
Demarest said that Russia's internal security agency, the FSB, had recently expressed tentative interest in working with U.S. authorities on investigating cybercrimes. He did not link the offer of cooperation to the Bogachev case.
China has not expressed any interest in cooperating with the United States on cybercrimes, he said. Last November, the United States indicted five Chinese military officers and accused them of hacking into U.S. nuclear power, metals and solar products industries.
Demarest said the FBI learned within a month of Sony Pictures' first report of a large-scale cyberattack that North Korea was behind it.
"We were absolutely positive in a very short period of time" that the North Korean government was behind the attack, he said.
Despite assertions from some security experts that the Sony Pictures hackers might have had help from one or more insiders at the studio, Demarest said investigators had found no evidence to back up such claims.
The FBI had learned of "over 100 major" cyberattacks in 2014, Demarest said, adding that evidence of insider collusion had turned up in "less than a handful" of those cases.

In the early part of the 20th century, the best athletic performances were to be found at the Nigerian Regiment Sports held annually in Kaduna. The Battalion sports, prior to the Kaduna Meeting, provided an athletic leaven throughout the country at centres such as the ones in Ibadan, Kano and Calabar. These meets produced some exceptionally talented runners like Amadu Panshin of the 4th Battalion (mile and 10 miles cross country)

But it was in the early 1930s that saw the dawn of athletics in Nigeria, especially school athletics. In 1931, the Aionian group of schools in the Western Provinces started its own competition, followed, in 1933 by the inauguration of the Grier Cup Competition also in the West. The Fisher Shield in the East completed the regional cycle of inter school athletic competitions which was rounded off by the HusseySheild competition between teams representing the schools in the North and South of Nigeria.

The Aionian Shield and Grier Cup Competition went from strength to strength: but the Fisher Shield and Hussey Shield Competitions, after reaching a Zenith in 1939 lapsed during the War. No doubt, this period produced some outstanding athletes such as G. A Garrick who created the Nigerian High Jump record in 1938, H. J Ekperigin whose record in Long jump in 1937 was not eclipsed until 1947, Shehu Kafin Madaki's (Shot) , J.K Oye and S Okoro who both dazzled spectators in the pole vault competitions.

The people behind the scenes who did so much to promote Nigerian athletics must not be forgotten. Some of these names Hussey, Grier, Urling -Smith and Fischer were perpetuated in the titles of the competitions ; but there were many others, Mr E.J.H. Bowler who made the magnificent laterite track at Kano for the 1934 Hussey Shield and Mr J. B Gott who undertook the task of collecting and training Northern teams. Behind these two hovered the effervescent spirit of the inimitable Jerry Cornes, one of England's greatest runners. Mr C. T Quinn Young toiled almost single handed to bring prominence to the sport in the East and In the West Mr A.H Clift, Mr A.J Carpenter and Mr Frank Smith work so hard for the sport.

During WW2, The Grier Cup Competition alone managed to keep going. Many of the Army Units held meeting in various parts of the country.

Okay saw this stuff and thought it best to share it with you guys enjoy!

When we hear the word “hero” we usually think of adults who fought in battle or otherwise sacrificed their lives for their countries, or who achieved great things that average people like us wouldn’t dare attempt, assuming we even had the capacity. But anyone can be a hero, and that includes young, innocent children. These ten kids showed exemplary bravery, selflessness and heroism, and their courageous acts challenge us to change our understanding of what the word “hero” truly means.

10. Johaven Gonzales – Climbed a Mountain to Save His Family
In 2012, an accident in Globe, Arizona almost killed Johaven Gonzalesand his family. They were driving along the highway when their car went off the roadand fell off a mountain cliff. Johaven was with his grandmother, sister and pregnant mother, and while all of them survived they were in need of serious medical assistance.
Johaven called 911, but instead of waiting for the officers to come he decided to climb the steep mountain to seek out help. The officers admitted that had Johaven not climbed the mountain they would have never found his family, since their vehicle was “so far down the mountain.” Officer Michael Fink added, “I know most adults would not have been able to do what he did.” As a reward for his heroism, he was given a Tim Tebow jersey and a bike. Score?
9. Temar Boggs – Freed a Young Girl from Her Abductor
Temar Boggsmade headlines when he rescued five-year old Jocelyn Rojas from her abductor. Temar was hanging out with his friends when he heard that a girl from their neighborhood had been kidnapped, and they immediately volunteered to search for the missing girl.
Temar spotted a suspicious vehicle, and when he looked in the passenger seat he saw Jocelyn. Temar and his friend, Chris, chased the car for more than ten minutes. The abductor got scared and decided to let Jocelyn go, who then ran towards Temar and said that “she needed her mommy.” When he was interviewed, Temar said, “It was just out of heart. It wasn’t to get attention or anything. It was just to help somebody in the community, help make sure another little life was okay and make sure her future could be possible.” Then he tipped his hat and disappeared into a sunset, presumably.
8. Anaiah Tucker – Saved Her Sister from an Oncoming Truck
In 2011, nine year old Anaiah Tuckeralmost died when she saved her five year old sister, Camry, from an oncoming truck. The truck came bearing down on the sisters as they were crossing the street on their way to their school bus. In an act of love and bravery, Anaiah pushed her younger sister out of the way and took a nasty hit for her effort.
Anaiah survived, but lost a leg and a kidney. When asked about her act she said, “[Camry] was too young to be hit like this, and if she got hit she wouldn’t hardly be alive. She would be probably gone forever… I love her so much.” Take a minute if you need it.
7. Timmy Miles – Saved His Siblings from a Burning Car
Timmy Mileswas 12 years old when he saved his siblings from a burning car. In 2011, Timmy’s mom, Gaylynn Miles, took him and his siblings to an isolated area of Cibola County, New Mexico. She forced them to take huge amount of pills before taking the same medication herself. After a few minutes they were all unconcious, and Gaylynn was out of the running for any Mother of the Year awards.
Their car was still running, and after a few hours it caught fire. Timmy woke up before the fire spread throughout the vehicle, but his attempt to extinguish it was unsuccessful. Thinking quickly, Timmy pulled everyone out of the blaze. He and his siblings suffered first-degree burns and smoke inhalation, but they survived. Unfortunately, their mother died, although authorities suspected that Gaylynn was already dead before the car started burning.
6. Angelica Riggins – Saved His Dad from Their Burning House
In 2009, Angelica Riggins’shouse caught on fire. Thanks to a Dalmatian named Sparkles, Angelica saved not only her life but his father’s as well. Angelica was six years old, and not long before the accident was present during a safety seminar held at her school. Sparkles demonstrated to the children what to do in case a fire started.
Fortunately, Angelica paid close attention and was able to apply what she had learned when her house caught on fire. During the night of the accident, Angelica got on the ground and crawled outside of her burning house just like Sparkles taught. She then went to a nearby house to ask for help. Her dad was still inside the burning house, but thanks to Angelica’s quick and calm thinking firefighters arrived and rescued her dad.

5. Tom Phillips – Drove a Tractor to Save His Dad from a Bull
Tom Phillipswas 10 years old when he saved his dad from a raging bull. Tom and his dad, Andrew, were looking after their cattle when a bull suddenly attacked them. The animal charged at Andrew and tossed him into the air. Andrew was then mauled by the animal as he lay unconscious on the ground.
Tom knew that he needed to do something or his dad was going to die. He jumped into the family’s tractor and drove straight towards the bull. Tom was forbidden from using the tractor, but given the circumstances we doubt anyone was going to object. He succeeded in pushing away the bull and saving his dad’s life, and Andrew only spent two weeks in the hospital. Even though he was a hero, Tom’s primary concern after the accident was his mom finding out that he drove the tractor. He said, “Please don’t tell mum, she’ll tell me off for driving the tractor.” His mom’s response: “He’s my little hero and I can’t tell you how proud I am of him.”
4. Samantha Christian – Saved Her Family from Their Burning Mobile Home
In 2012, a girl named Samantha Christianfrom Apache Junction, Arizona, managed to save her family from a house fire by staying calm and collected. A portable air conditioning unit in Samantha’s room caught fire, but Samantha didn’t panic — she ran to her mother and siblings and woke them up. Samantha’s mom, Labecaa Christian, poured water on the fire while Samantha worked to save her brother’s lives.
First she dragged eight year old Brendon out of their burning home and into their neighbor’s house. She then went back to save her other brother, Mikey. Samantha tried to wake him up, but he just wouldn’t come to. So without hesitating she “picked him up and threw him” over her shoulder, taking him to safety. Her mother eventually got out alive as well. If not for Samantha’s courage and calm thinking she and her family might have perished, and Mikey would have never had had what we can only assume to be a serious sleeping disorder identified.
3. Alexis Goggins – Used Her Body as a Shield to Save Her Mom
Many of us have heard stories about parents who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their children. But how many of us have heard of children who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their parents? It’s rare, but that’s exactly what Alexis Gogginsdid in 2007. The seven year old used her body as a shield to save her mom’s life from a gunman, Calvin Tillie, who had been dating Selietha Parker for six months before he tried to break up with her with extreme prejudice.
Alexis, Selietha and Calvin were in a car when Calvin took out a gun and shot Selietha in the side of the head. Before he could fire again, Alexis “jumped over the seat” between Calvin and her mom, begging him to stop. He shot the girl six times anyway, but miraculously they both survived while Calvin was later apprehended by the police.
2. Tyler Doohan – Died While Trying to Save His Grandfather
Not all heroic kids make it out alive. Tyler Doohandied while trying to save his disabled grandfather from a burning mobile home in upstate New York. Tyler was only eight years old when he saved the lives of six people, including children aged four and six, but lost his life while trying to save his grandfather.
According to official reports, Tyler was the first one who noticed a fire in his grandfather’s mobile home. He woke up six of his family members, and once he knew that all six were safe Tyler went back to help his disabled grandfather get out of the blazing trailer. Sadly, they didn’t survive. When the fire was extinguished, the firefighters saw Tyler and his grandfather’s bodies together on a bed — Tyler was trying to lift his grandfather out of the burning mobile home.
1. Aitazaz Hassan Bangash – Died While Tackling a Suicide Bomber
Had it not been for 14 year old Aitazaz Hassan Bangashmany children would have been killed in a terrorist attackin Pakistan. Aitazaz lost his life when he tackled a suicide bomber who was determined to kill students gathered for their morning assembly at their school.
According to Aitazaz’s cousin, a man dressed in a school uniform approached Aitazaz and asked him where their school was. Aitazaz became suspicious and challenged the man. When Aitazaz grabbed the bomber, he panicked and set off the bomb, killing them both and preventing the death of many more. His cousin described the act as “a great sacrifice to save the lives of hundreds of both Shia and Sunni students,” and Pakistanis across the country hailed his act of heroism on social media.

Anyone can sign up for a free affiliate account — you don’t even need to be an author. After that, there’s a step-by-step walk-through for generating affiliate links. I use affiliate links on my own website, as that’s a large sales channel. So each time someone clicks the link to buy my book from my website, I get paid twice: once from the affiliate and once from the royalties I receive.
On average, I make a few hundred dollars each month from my affiliate account, because every time I link to my books from my website I use an Amazon Associates URL that’s got a tracking ID attached. This tracking ID tells Amazon that I sent that sale to them, so they’ll send me a commission of that sale.
There are important rules to be aware of with Amazon Associates. For instance, you aren’t allowed to use associate links in newsletters, emails or PDFs. It’s also against the rules to shorten your affiliate link on social media (which Twitter and Facebook do automatically).
The downside of selling on Amazon is that authors don’t get access to customer information (like name or email addresses) and the royalties are lower than they would be selling directly on an author’s own website, using services such as Gumroad.
Returns or refunds are handled by Amazon. I’ve never seen a refund request for any paperback copies of my book, but Kindle ebook purchasers do request them within the seven days that Amazon allows. Of course some buyers abuse the system, reading the book and then returning it. There are even petitions from authors to stop or shorten the refund time. But I don’t object to the policy. The return rate for my Kindle books has only been about 1%. And I even think the policy helps encourage customers to take a chance on indie authors. If they dislike the book enough to request a refund, they should get one.
Self-publishing through Amazon makes sense for authors who are willing to give up the customer details and accept lower royalties for a potentially higher sales volume. I’ve seen a massive spike in sales by selling this way

Larrysun repogirl d9ty7 royver athanatos stealthideals you guys read this I think you should share your stories with the rest of the world and hopefully make some money from it to happy reading!

This was copied from a blog aint my article

Not so long ago, the first hurdle for an aspiring book author was to get past the gatekeepers. First you would have to spend weeks or months writing a book proposal and sample chapters. Then you might contact a bunch of agents to see if they would be interested in pitching your book to major publishers. Most would grumble that your idea would not be likely to make a lot of money, or that it sounded “more like a magazine article than a book.” At this point you might abandon the project or, if you were really persistent, send your proposal directly to publishers. If they didn’t ship the package back to you unopened, they would either send you a form rejection letter or make you a lowball offer.
Various tools for self-publishing have taken down these barriers for authors who prefer to go it alone. I’m one of them (see my post, “ How My Book Became A (Self-Published) Best Seller). Paul Jarvisis another. He’sa web designer and author whohas self-published four books, including Everything I Know, which between the print and ebook versions sold a total of 4,000 copies. His upcoming book, The Good Creative, due out June 4, explores 18 traits of the world’s most interesting and respected creative professionals. In the following guest post he provides a roadmap to the various Amazon services that have liberated authors from traditional publishers. You can follow him on Twitter.
Paul Jarvis self-published his latest book, “Everything I Know.” Between the print and ebook versions it sold a total of 4,000 copies in just a few months.
Most independently published authors fall into one of two camps: Those selling books on their own website using an ecommerce tool; and those selling only through Amazon.
I started out in the first camp two years ago when I used Gumroadto self-publish the ebook, Eat Awesome. Gumroad allows you to sell a variety of digital products from your own web site, including ebooks, music and software. Setup takes less than five minutes. They take a very small percentage (5% + 25 cents) of each sale. I sold 5,410 copies of the book I published with them, netting about $12,033 (after they took their fees).
My second book, Be Awesome at Online Business, I sold exactly same way. I also signed up for distribution through Bookbaby, but didn’t promote those avenues, so I noticed little or no sales.
Curious about Amazon’s services for independent authors, last year I listed my third book,Everything I Know, for sale exclusively through their website. Sales during the first four months exceeded 4,000 downloads. That’s more than double the number of downloads of either of the previous two books during the first four months of publication. I also now sell paperback copies, which Amazon prints as orders come in, accounting for 10% of my book sales each month. Typically I sell 70 to 100 print books per month, netting around $400 per month from that version of the book. In addition, I’m averaging about 700 digital downloads per month, which net me $2,870.
Amazon’s suite of services for independent authors makes it possible for me and many other authors to bypass traditional publishing companies. It gives us the tools to create and sell digital books; print and sell paperback copies on demand; add author pages and even market books. Here are five Amazon services, all of them free to set up, that every indie author needs to know about.
Kindle Direct Publishing. This service, known by the shorthand KDP, enables indie authors to sell the digital version of their books on Amazon.com (or other Amazon country websites). There’s no charge to upload the file. Authors get royalties of 35% to 70% of the sale price, depending on whether the book is sold on KDP or through another Amazon service called KDP Select (more about that below).
Unlike most other digital retailers, KDP uses the format known as “mobi.” This is simply the file format for digital books that Amazon uses, and it works on all Kindle devices. You can upload your book on Amazon using other formats as explained on the Amazon site, including ePub, which is the most popular one (that’s what Apple uses), and others such as HTML, Doc, and RTF. However, in my experience it looks better if you start out with a mobi file because any formatting you create – for example for images, charts and tables – stays intact.
Let’s say you have written your book in Word and want to convert it to mobi. You can do this using the free software Calibre (available for PC or Mac). I’ve used the Mac version and it works very well if your Word document has no page numbers. For best results it should include links to each chapter in a table of contents that’s formatted to meet Amazon’s specifications listed here.
Another option is to pay one of the many digital publishing or formatting companies that offer the service of converting a Word file to the digital format of your choice. Pricing is either per book or based on the number of words. With a professional service you should expect to pay in the hundreds of dollars to have your book set up, formatted and converted from a Word DOC to a mobi or ePub file. You can locate less expensive services through fiverr.com. But as with so many other things, you typically get what you pay for, so look at the company’s portfolio and speak with some of their author clients before retaining the firm.
You will also have the ability to preview your Kindle book before it’s published on Amazon.com, so if you catch any mistakes, you can make your changes and re-upload.
One of the nice things about KDP is that Amazon does not require digital exclusivity. So authors can still sell the same digital book anywhere else on the Internet on through other stores like The Nook Book Store or iTunes.
KDP Select.By using this service, rather than the plain-vanilla one, you tap into Amazon’s marketing muscle. To do that you must give them an exclusive on your digital book for 90 days. In return, KDP Select pays higher royalties (closer to the 70% mentioned earlier), and allows those books to be part of the lending library for their Prime Members. Authors get paid a percentage of the total amount Amazon Prime members pay for each book lent out.
For example, if the total amount Prime members pay in April is $1 million and 300,000 titles are lent out, if your book is lent out 1,500 times you would make .5% or $5,000. Last month it worked out to $2.12 per book for me, which is average. This month alone 127 people have grabbedEverything I Knowfrom the lending library, so it’s a decent chunck of “sales.”
KDP Select also gives you the option to make your book free or discounted for up to five days, as part of your promotional campaign. During that time, it appears on sales pages on Amazon.com, which drives more people to it. Though you will obviously earn nothing from these sales, it can help build buzz for your book just as you are launching it.
If you subscribe to the theory that offering a book for free – even briefly – can ultimately pay off, there are also lots of websites that promote free or discounted Kindle books to massive audiences. Bookbubis the largest, with over 2 million subscribers. Bookbub and other larger promotion websites will charge you a fee(from $40 in less popular categories to $400 to $1,500 in very popular categories) to advertise with them. I think it’s worth it (if you can afford it), to put your book in front of a much larger audience.
Using Bookbub, Book Gorilla (the second largest Kindle promotion company) and my own marketing efforts, I drove 39,000 downloads toEverything I Knowin just three days. Four weeks later, after the book went back to the normal price of $6.99, sales continued at a slightly higher volume than prior to the sale. I have now sold more than 4,000 copies.
Based on my conversations with other indie authors and their posts on various message boards and blogs, other authors also see huge sales on days when their books are discounted, and even more massive downloads on days when those books are free. This, in turn, leads to higher than usual sales on the days right after promotions (when the book has gone back to its regular price), and generally helps to expand awareness of the book.
CreateSpace. This is Amazon’s print-on-demand service for indie authors. It lets you sell a paperback copy of your book either on CreateSpace.com or directly from Amazon.com. All you have to do is upload a PDF based on their specifications and set how much you’d like to make. (They give you a base price; you make the public price something over that.)
You don’t pay for book printing – you simply collect a commission whenever it sells. You’re in charge of the price and associated commission as well. When you upload your book, Amazon tells you what their costs are — $2.50 for example, for a 150-page book. From there you can price your book at anything higher, say $9. Under that scenario, for each paperback sale, Amazon keeps $2.50 and the shipping costs that it charges the buyer, and you keep $6.50.
Authors design (or can have CreateSpace design for an extra fee) a cover and upload their content in PDF format. Once it’s uploaded you can download or physically order a “proof” copy or view it directly on their website. That way, if you need to make changes, you can do that before it’s made available for sale.
CreateSpace also lets you link a Kindle version of your book to the paperback. This way, purchasers can pick their format on the same sales page, which is a helpful customer-oriented feature. All it requires is that you upload a properly formatted Kindle version as well. If you’re already added your Kindle version to KDP or KDP Select, Amazon will connect your paperback to the digital version on the same page on their website.
Print on demand is perfect for most indie authors because it’s hard to judge how well your book will sell, and ordering copies before they’re sold can be a massive expense. With CreateSpace, those obstacles disappear. However the current limitations are that there’s no hardcover option and I’ve found the binding and spines of the books printed through them are weak. You also have to use one of only a few options for the size of the book.
I didn’t think print was worth it for independently published authors since it can leave you with unsold inventory (which you will need to store at your house or arrange to store elsewhere). But as soon as I started offering paperback copies ofEverything I Knowthrough CreateSpace, I noticed that at least 10% of my sales were physical copies. Since it’s printed on demand through Amazon, there’s no inventory — just royalties, automatically deposited to my bank account each month.
Amazon Author Central.Whether your book is published by a traditional publisher or you are an indie author, Amazon lets you create an author page like this one. You can add your biography; your photo; editorial reviews; and your blog’s RSS feed (so it grabs new articles). It’s even possible to share upcoming speaking and book-signing events and show your latest tweets.
Every Amazon page for your book links to this enormously useful marketing tool, so it cross-links other books you have published, too. On your author page, readers can even sign up to get email notifications from Amazon when you release new books.
Having an Author Central page doesn’t require using other Amazon services. All that’s necessary is that one or more of your books is for sale in any way on Amazon. From there it’s simply a matter of letting Amazon know that you’re the author and following the prompts to set up the page.

Trouble Tree

The carpenter I hired to help me restore an old farmhouse had just finished a rough first day on the job. A flat tire made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw quit, and now his ancient pickup truck refused to start.
While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching tips of the branches with both hands.
When opening the door, he underwent an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.
Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do earlier.
“Oh, that’s my trouble tree,” he replied. “I know I can’t help having troubles on the job, but one thing’s for sure, troubles don’t belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home. Then in the morning I pick them up again.”
“Funny thing is,” he smiled, “when I come out in the morning to pick ‘em up, there ain’t nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before.”
If a tree can offer much hope to this man, how much more relief can you get by thrusting all your troubles and cares at the One who cares and is able to shoulder them all? That Person is Jesus Christ. You can trust Him.
Meditation:Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.– 1 Peter 5:6-7

Racing Down The River

By Rich McLawhorn
Someone once said, “True freedom is not a question of doing as we like, but doing as we ought.”
Clovis Chappell, a nineteenth century minister, used to tell an interesting story about two paddleboats. The two boats, powered by coal, left Memphis about the same time, traveling down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. As they travelled side-by-side, sailors from one vessel made some critical remarks and jokes about the snail’s pace of the other boat.
Heated words were exchanged between the men on the two boats. Challenges were made. So the race began. The competition was hot and heavy as the two boats roared through the Deep South.
Eventually, one boat began falling behind. The problem: it didn’t have enough fuel. There had been plenty of coal for the trip, but not enough for a race.
As the boat dropped back, an enterprising young sailor took some of the ship’s cargo and tossed it into the boat’s ovens. When his fellow sailors saw that the supplies burned as well as coal, they fuelled their boat with the material they had been assigned to transport.
Guess what? They ended up winning the race. But they burned their cargo.
How does this apply to our lives?
The men on the winning boat did what they liked, which was winning the race. But the price for that victory was expensive. The boat’s cargo, the very reason they were traveling down the river in the first place, was sacrificed. So they failed to do what they ought to have done, which was to safely transport their cargo.
You may not have thought about it, but God has entrusted each of us with cargo. Our cargo is other people, such as friends and family, and the ability He has given us to help someone else. We are responsible for this cargo, and ought to cherish it in our journey through life.
However, like the men on the winning boat, often we fail in that responsibility. As Billy Graham says, “We hurt people by being too busy. Too busy to notice their needs. Too busy to drop that note of comfort or encouragement or assurance of love. Too busy to listen when someone needs to talk. Too busy to care.”
Are you too busy to care? When opportunities occur to help others, do you take advantage of those opportunities? Or do you burn your cargo as you busily do what you like?
Be diligent, and do what you ought to do. Slow down for the needs of your family and friends. Seize opportunities to help people when it is within your power to do so.
Finally, remember one other cargo God has entrusted to you. It is the Good News of Jesus Christ. Diligently share that Good News with others, and help people who are using their gifts for Christ reach even more people. Your diligence with the cargo God has given you will be very rewarding.
Meditation: And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:41-42

The Gift

The Diamond Ring

A married lady was expecting a birthday gift from her husband. For many months she had admired a beautiful diamond ring in a showroom, and knowing her husband could afford it, she told him that was all she wanted.
As her birthday approached, this lady awaited signs that her husband had purchased the diamond ring. Finally, on the morning of her birthday, her husband called her into his study.
Her husband told her how proud he was to have such a good wife, and told her how much he loved her.
He handed her a beautiful wrapped gift box.
Curious, the wife opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the wife’s name embossed in gold.
Angrily, she raised her voice at her husband and said, ‘With all your money you gave me a Bible?’ And stormed out of the house, leaving her husband.
Many years passed and the lady became very successful in business. She managed to settle for a more beautiful house and a wonderful family, but realized her ex-husband was very old, and thought perhaps she should go to visit him. She had not seen him for many years. But before she could make arrangements, she received a telegram telling her that her ex-husband had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to her. She needed to come back immediately and take care of his affairs.
When she arrived at her ex-husband’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled her heart. She began to search through her ex-husband’s important papers and saw the new Bible still intact, just as she had left it years before.
With tears, she opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. Her ex-husband had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, And if you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father, who is in heaven, give what is good to those who ask Him?’
As she read those words, a tiny package dropped from the back of the Bible. It was the diamond ring, with her name engraved on it — the same diamond ring which she saw 20 years before at the showroom.
On the tag was the date of her birth, and the words: ‘LUV U ALWAYS’.
How many times do we miss God’s blessings, because they are not packaged as we expected?
Do not spoil what you have, by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.
If your gift is not packaged the way you want it, it’s because it is better packaged the way it is. Always appreciate little things; they usually lead you to bigger and better things.
‘The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.’
Meditation:while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.– 2 Corinthians 4:18
