7. Minister of labour and employment (Chris Ngige)

Some youths in the country have criticized Chris Ngige for his inability to fix a profitable minimum wage. Instead of the government creating employment for the unemployed, many are losing their jobs on a daily basis.

8. Minister of foreign affairs (Geoffrey Onyeama)

Many had expected Geoffrey Onyeama to wield in his international expertise into Buhari’s agenda, but 10 months since he was appointed, Nigeria is yet to have a focused foreign policy agenda. He is yet to convince Nigerians that he is the right man for the job.

9. Minister of Communication (Adebayo Shittu)

Adebayo Shittu is yet to prove to Nigerians that he is the best hand for the job. He recently came up with a proposal to impose a 10 per cent tax on phone calls, text messages, data and more, which according to him, would help enhance telecommunication services in the country.

4. Minister of budget and national planning (Udoma Udo Udoma)

Some days ago, Senator Dino Melaye said Minister Udoma Udo Udoma was not competent for the office.
“ Now, you bring a lawyer to become Minister of National Planning. That to me, is giving carpentry job to a tailor, he will never succeed ,” he said.
The senator maintained that the Ministry of Budget and Planning needs somebody that is not only intellectually mobile in public finance but in development economics and even strategic development.

5. Minister of women affairs (Aisha Alhassan)

Aisha Alhassan, fondly called ‘Mama Taraba’ is yet to prove to Nigerians that she is the woman for the job. The minister, who contested for the Taraba state governorship election but failed, has disappeared from the spotlight since her appointment.

6. Minister of power, housing and works (Babatunde Raji Fashola)

Many have said the ministries given to Babatunde Fashola were too much for him to manage. On several occasions, Fashola has been called minister of darkness as power has not improved since his appointment.
Many have said he is not competent enough for the job but Fashola has asked anybody who has a problem with his position to go and complain to President Muhammadu Buhari.

After President Buhari finally appointed his 36 ministers to oversee vital the sectors of the country, Nigerians expressed their dissatisfaction with the people the president picked, being that he took six months to screen and appoint them..

Ten months since the ministers were sworn-in, mixed reactions have continued to trail their performances.
Nigerians have continued to express their dissatisfaction towards the ministers as some sectors of the country are yet to witness commendable development.

1. Sports minister (Solomon Dalung)

Since the sports minister, Solomon Dalung, was sworn in, he seems to have been in the news for the wrong reasons. His critics, especially sports lovers, have blamed him for the crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) which contributed to the inability of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.

The minister came under attack recently when the Nigeria U-23 football team was stranded in Atlanta, and almost missed their first match against Japan , arriving only five hours before the kickoff. It got worse when the minister made a blunder and referred to the USA as the ‘United States of Nigeria ’, sparking series of reactions on social media.

2. Finance minister (Kemi Adeosun)

Kemi Adeosun, who hails from Ogun state, has been criticized for lacking the handle the affairs relating to the nation’s economy. She has been criticized on several occasions. In February, Nigerians came for her when she made a mathematical blunder saying the addition of 16 billion and 6 billion would amount to N24billion, instead of N22billion.

Recently, the minister received some serious bashing from compatriots after she reportedly said ‘recession is just a word’. She has been called ‘incompetent’ a number of times by some Nigerians who now want Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala back .

3. Minister of solid minerals (Kayode Fayemi)

Kayode Fayemi has been criticized for not making adequate income for the country from the sector, as against the valuables embedded in the sector. Nigeria is richly endowed with a variety of solid minerals of various categories ranging from precious metals to various precious stones and industrial minerals.

According to the Nigerian Extractive Industries and Transparency Initiative (NEITI), there are about 40 different kinds of solid minerals and precious metals buried in Nigerian soil waiting to be exploited. The minister is yet to show Nigerians that he is capable of handling the position, despite confirming the discovery of nickel .

Amidst the excitement and ecstasy of the light rail system launched formally on Tuesday 26 July at the Idu train station lies a haphazard project that can be improved with the right legislation and implementation from the National Assembly.

The recent commissioning of the much talked about Abuja-Kaduna rail line by President Muhammadu Buhari, with his pictures riding on first class cabin, took the internet by storm, thereby arousing my journalistic instincts.
There is no doubt, of course, it was a promise kept. With the official handover to the Nigerian Railway Corporation for commercial activities, a younger generation of Nigerians, frequent travelers as well as businessmen and women who may want to travel in a relaxed and friendly manner at a cost effective rate given the mouth-watering offer of N900 for executive coach, N600 for second class and N500 for economy fares can now smile. But this smile can be short-lived if further legislative input is not taken.

Cynthia's unsavory experience

After the one-month free test rides which witnessed a high level of enthusiasm by commuters ended, I was already itching to savor the experience by parting with my hard earned money for the rail way trip.
At 1:20 p.m. on August 25th, in the company of two friends, I hurried off to Kubwa to catch the 2 p.m. train.
I arrived at 1:40 p.m. and quickly purchased my train ticket at the rate of 600 naira, in the absence of another class of tickets. The train station was so beautiful but lacked coordination. The security apparatus, both human and material resources. was unsatisfactory.
Two security personnel were seen checking luggage on a small bench with a scanner. I nearly screamed. Thanks to Buhari, who has kept those Boko boys in check.
The waiting area was filled with passengers waiting to board I was told that the train leaves at 2:30 p.m., while waiting I decided to look around, ask questions and take pictures.
I was still filled with excitement and eagerness to board a train for the first time in Nigeria; yes actually it was my first time ever!
After much dilly dally, the time finally comes, squeezing myself into what seemed like a line, our tickets were checked by a man who looked like a passenger. He did not seem different from many of us - no uniform or regalia.
We were directed to form four lines for the different compartments and we began to file in.
In another few minutes the journey began, smooth and calm, announcement were made on the various stops: Asham, Rigere, and the final destination, Rigasa. Ten minutes into the trip, someone who appeared to be the train assistant came to the seats to ask for our tickets and perforated them.

The only group who distinguished themselves were the cleaners who were seen dressed in orange customized shirts moving around at intervals.
Soon it was 04:45 p.m. it did not feel like it. We arrived at Rigasa, in Kaduna, shortly thereafter.
I quickly bought my return ticket, walked around the station, took some more pictures and questioned the security officials on the train schedules. At 10 minutes to 6 p.m., the train was ready to board to head back to Abuja. Everyone rushed in and I managed to get a middle seat with a table and sockets. My friend and I played Monopoly, and within two hours, we were back in Abuja.

Cynthia's take

Amidst the excitement and ecstasy of the light rail system launched formally on Tuesday 26 July at the Idu train station lies a haphazard project that can be improved with the right legislation and implementation from the National Assembly.
In less than one month of commissioning, the electronic information board no longer functions, there is no proper security mechanism, and there is a severe lack of coordination and poor management of staff and passengers.
The Nigeria Railway Corporation Act of 1955 has existed for 6 decades!!! This act has not been amended until the 8th Assembly under the leadership of Bukola Saraki, who did the needful by amending and passing the bill for a third reading on 21 July 2016.
A technical committee made up of stakeholders with legal and technical expertise was set up by the senate leadership and Committee on Land Transportation. This bill of high priority was changed to the National Railway Bill 2016 due to far-reaching recommended changes.
The obsolete model act of 1955 was adorned with restrictions and rigidity to innovation investments, and private sector management making the regulator the operator.
Some of the major amendments that the new bill will achieve include providing a legislative framework to stamp out all impediments that hindered the attainment of an effective railway system over past years and allow private sector, local and foreign investors.
It will also open doors for rapid deployment of rail systems across the nation and competitive and effective service delivery to Nigerians. This achievement by the 8th senate should be replicated in due time by the house of representative for onward executive assent in the interest of Nigeria and its economy.
Only then can Nigerians truly jubilate at the milestones of the railway industry. The regulator in this sector cannot remain the operator. We have to get it right.
President Buhari should not hesitate to sign the bill immediately when it lands on his table. Only then will Nigerians say, “Bravo!’’

PoliticsEx-bodyguards Of Buhari Stage Protest In Aso Rock by GoggleB(op): 6:29am On Sep 08, 2016
Some former bodyguards of President Muhammadu Buhari have staged a protest in Aso Rock
– The protest was staged to air their grievances over unpaid wages
– The bodyguards have vowed to occupy the Presidential Villa if their needs are not met
Some former bodyguards to President Muhammadu Buhari have threatened to occupy Aso Rock if demands for wages owed them are not met with immediate effect.

Ex-bodyguards of President Buhari staged a protest in front of the Aso Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, September 7.
The bodyguards who served during the electioneering campaigns in 2015, on Wednesday, September 7, vowed to occupy the presidential villa if allowances owed to them were not paid to enable them cater for their families during the upcoming Salleh celebrations.
The Vanguard reports that the bodyguards who staged a protest at the entrance of the presidential villa, Abuja decried their living conditions.

Their spokesman, Olabiyi Balogun who spoke with newsmen on phone said that they had been owed arrears of 17 months even as other of their demands had also fallen on deaf ears.
Balogun vowed that the group would continue to protest u till their demands were met. He said: “If you recollect, the last time we had a parley with the press was about 4 weeks ago when they asked Mobile policemen to seal off our office, the APC presidential campaign office.
From that time till today is 28 days. We had no form of official response to our demands and it is as a result of that we decided to take the protest further to them. To prove our point we had to stage our protest right to the Villa, this morning. We were stopped.
“The DCP, the squadron commander in the Villa came to address us. He told us that he was sent from inside. He said that the right persons told him that they are already sitting on our issue and that we should give them between now and the end of the month, that the demands we made would be met. We will abide by our words.
“We want to give them the benefit of doubt. But the issue right now is sallah. Sallah is on Monday and 80 percent of us are Muslims. They have been paying themselves. They just paid themselves the allowances they owed the personnel in the villa. Each person got N450 thousand.
One of our demands is that our allowances for the past 17 months should be paid but they have exempted from the allowances they paid.”
We are paid N50 per month. That’s the agreement. “Our other demands included a request to have audience with Mr. President, we demand that arrears of our allowances be paid.
We also demanded that we need to be paid our entitlements and we proposed that for the inconveniences we have suffered in the last 20 months, we demanded to be paid 20 million each.
We are growing from one level of protest to another. We don’t know what we are going do next but definitely, we will not keep quiet. If they do not reach out to us for this sallah, on Friday we have something in mind.”
This not the first time some security personnel attached to the seat of power have grumbled regarding unpaid salaries.
A report by Daily Trust recently revealed that security personnel attached to Nigeria’s seat of power, Aso Rock are being owed their special allowances for 13 months.
The security personnel are drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of Security Service, the Federal Fire Service, the National Intelligence Agency, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Army.
The Aso Rock security team stated that they have not been paid their special allowances since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office on May 29, 2015.

Few months back, security operatives attached to the presidential villa in Abuja were reportedly discontent and upset over their unpaid allowances.
The Punch reported that the situation may degenerate into a security breach, if it is not addressed quickly.
Speaking with newsmen on Wednesday, February 10, multiple sources who pleaded for anonymity noted that
“loyalty of the security operatives had dropped drastically” over the non-payment of the allowance .

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has challenged the PDP over its statement regarding Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu

– Oshiomhole says contrary to PDP’s statement, Ize-Iyamu has once been indicted for crime

– The Edo state governor says the PDP gubernatorial candidate was rusticated for 2-years while at UNIBEN
Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have not been honest with the Edo people, regarding their gubernatorial candidate’s crime history.

Oshiomhole said that contrary to the claims of the PDP governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu that he has never been indicted for any crime, the PDP candidate was allegedly rusticated by a panel led by Prof Itse Sagay for two years.
The Edo state governor said the the rustication came after Ize-Iyamu allegedly bathed a fellow student with acid at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

It would be recalled that Ize-Iyamu in an online interview said he was rusticated for being a member of the Pirate confraternity at the University of Benin then and not because he bathed some body with acid.
However, Oshiomhole who spoke at the mega rally of the APC, to round up the governorship campaign of the APC Candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki, said: “Ize-Iyamu said he has never been indicted in his life. And that he made his first millions when he was 31. Now I challenge him, as a student in UNIBEN, he was rusticated for two years because he poured somebody acid and today the person was paralysed.
It was one of the president’s advisers today, Prof Itsey Sagay that chaired the committee that rusticated Ize-Iyamu.”
On the issue of Bendel Brewery, Oshiomhole narrated: “We have not been able to reopen Bendel Brewery because of the huge debt the PDP left in that place.
I heard Ize-Iyamu saying that they were collecting N25million monthly from Bendel Brewery but now as the custodian of the treasure of Edo state, I can tell you those monies went into private pockets. And by the time they left, Bendel Breweries was owing N2billion, which they borrowed and the company was closed.”
In the same vein, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Charles Idahosa, has revealed why former governor of Edo state and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Lucky Igbinedion, has refused to join the campaign train of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Igbinedion was a two-term governor of the state under the PDP and accused of destroying the state and its economy.
He was also arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged fraud while in office, arraigned and found guilty.
He however plea-bargained with the federal government making him return some amount to the public treasury.
Idahosa, a former director of media and protocol and commissioner for information in Lucky Igbinedion’s administration, said Igbinedion was ashamed to to campaign for Ize-Iyamu because the PDP has nothing to offer as its achievement in the state .
Ize-Iyamu served under Igbinedion but he has maintained that he was a mere appointee and had no much powers unlike when he would finally become the governor if he wins the election slated for August 10, 2016.
