PoliticsRe: NDYM Backs Jonathan On Subsidy Removal! by Goldcon: 10:05am On Jan 05, 2012
I think what my people (Niger Delta) should continue to protest seriously is the long years of exploitation by the other regions. They should fight for TRUE FEDERALISM AND RESOURCE CONTROL. Them we will all see what will become of all these other state govts dat are lazing about, relying solely on Abuja/oil monthly sharing.

Then i believe the protest in these other regions/states will be for a different reason, and not subsidy removal.

Most of the SW and a few other states can survive (at least averagely) without oil allocation cos they have agriculture, human capital etc. but the SS CANNOT survive without oil. because agriculture has been damaged by oil exploration and the govt has not made the best of the oil wealth in creating other sources of income. So what happens to us in the SS when this oil finishes.
PoliticsRe: Still On The The Fuel Subsidy: Will NNPC Sell Locally Refined PMS For N141 by Goldcon: 5:06pm On Jan 04, 2012
t does not have to be anywhere near the imported quantity - the issue here is that if you are producing locally refined at 120 naira, sell it at 120 naira and not 141 naira.

If it means everyone rushes to NNPC to try to buy cheaper fuel, then so be it, but let there be transparency on how much locally refined petrol costs. If the NNPC price is a composite of locally refined price + imported price, this should also be made transparent.
Dat way more pple will easily invest in building refineries, which is to me the only benefit that will come from the removal. While the importers can still make their money especially in the short term cos majority of the pple will be buying from them the importers at the imported price.

I believe dis removal can be a great biz opportunity for so many pple. Import fuel, import/manufacture bicycles, build refineries. (for now we hav so many illegal micro refineries in the Niger delta, we can step it up legitimately)

I hav decided to start looking at (if any) the benefits dat can come from this policy, cos no matter how much we "shout and protest". we know they are not feeling it.

PoliticsRe: Cross River State To Cut Back The Minimum Wage To N10,000 by Goldcon: 6:55pm On Nov 14, 2011
Third, I haven't heard or seen any doubling of public service productivity in the last month nor is there any credible demand for that.
I like 4 workers, not just civil servants to be paid well according to their labour and efforts. In the case of NLC all what we hear about is "minimum wage increse", noboby talks about better service delivery, better approach to work etc.

Civil servants are still very nonchallant about their job. many of them come to work by 9 10 am, close by 1pm (fr lunch), Gross delay in work/service delivery etc.
Clamour for better pay should be followed with better service.
