UGHELLI—Niger Delta Youth Movement, NDYM, yesterday, threw its weight behind the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.

It argued that it was the surest way of getting the resources needed to create millions of jobs for the youths and provide the wherewithal to build a solid economic foundation for the future.

NDYM in a statement after its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Ughelli, Delta State, called on “youths in all the geo-political regions in Nigeria to shun any invitation or call to protest against this well intentioned measure geared towards the survival of the masses.”

The communiqué by its National President and Secretary, Mr Godspower Odenema, said “the entire youths of the Niger Delta are actively ready and prepared to support Mr. President’s pragmatic measures aimed at correcting and adequately addressing the deficiencies of the past and consolidate on the progresses the nation has made since 1999.

“As strict adherents to ‘no pain, no gain’ philosophy of life, we are certainly sure that the removal of subsidy, as is being experienced now, will definitely inflict short-term pains and sufferings in the citizenry but this will ease off in the long-run to the overall benefit of Nigerians. And so we prefer a short-term pain with subsidy removal to a perpetual pain with non-removal of petroleum subsidy,” he added.

So daft! Can you identify any pain or any areas it will pinch your rulers (Executives and idle senators/reps) during this period? Was there any reduction in their colossal allocations in the budget. Please use your God-given brains. Don't u know it's suppose to be leadership by example?

YOU KNOW; AT TIMES LIKE THIS, I BEGIN TO THINK WE TRULY DESERVE SOME OF THE HARDSHIP WE EXPERIENCE IN THIS COUNTRY.

BCOZ, WE ALWAYS LET SENTIMENTS BECLOUD OUR SENSE OF WHAT IS RIGHT FROM WHAT IS WRONG.

(1) WE ALL KNOW FROM PAST EXPERIENCES THAT GOVT (NOT JUST GEJ ALONE NOW) HAS NEVER BEEN SINCERE.
(2) WE ALSO ALL KNOW THAT NIGERIANS WILL RATHER GO ON THEIR KNEELS AND PRAY RATHER THAN DO ANYTHING TO CHANGE THINGS.
(3) WE ALL KNOW THAT WE(NIGERIANS) ARE VERY FORGETFUL PEOPLE, FOOLISHLY TOO.

SO I ASK

(1B) WHEN HAVE IN THE PAST 15+ YEARS HV GOVT EVER FALLEN TRUE WITH PROMISES MADE. FRM POWER PROJECTS, TO PROCEEDS FROM DEBT FORGIVENESS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHIN.
(2B) WE HEAR OF THE USELESS BUDGETING DONE ( MONIES ALLOCATED FOR ASO ROCK AND ALL), WE HEAR OF CABALS, WE HEAR OF EMBEZZLEMENT, WE HEAR OF THEFT. BUT 9 OUT OF 10 NIGERIANS WILL SAY, ''GOD DEY''
(3B) LOOKING AT RECENT EVENTS, WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO BANKOLE? OR ALL THE OTHER THIEFS EVER CAUGHT IN THIS NATION, OR THE PROCEEDS THERE-OF

AND YET SOME LAYABOUTS SAY WE SHLD TRUST GOVT TO FALL THRU. THIS IS A REAR OPPORTUNITY GOD HAS GIVEN US TO DEMAND PAYMENT FOR YEARS OF THEFT AND LIES THE GOVT HAS BEEN TELLING. WE NEED A REVOLUTION, WHAT EVER THE CAUSE RIGHT NOW IS NOT NEARLY AS CONSEQUENTIAL AS WHAT WE WILL ACHIEVE FRM IT.

SO I SAY, LET US CAPITALIZE ON THIS TO DEMAND BLOOD FRM THE THIEVING GOVT. BECOZ, WE MIGHT NEVER GET THIS CHANCE AGAIN. WE NEED TO HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE.

BUT AM SURE AS ALWAYS, THE AVERAGE NIGERIAN IS INERTLY CORRUPT SO, WILL NOT WANT TO FIGHT IT THAT MUCH. BUT FOR THE SAKE OF OUR FUTURE GENERATION LETS MAKE THIS AN EXCEPTION.

BYTHEWAY, NOT LIKE I WAS EXPECTING ANYTHING DIFFERENT FRM OUR SS ''BROTHERS". AFTER ALL EVEN THE MILITANTS WERE SELFISHLY DEMANDING THEIR OWN CHUNK OF THE CAKE AND NOT THAT THEY WANTED THE REGION TO WORK BETTER.

Ignore the statement this is not the opinion of the SS youth. The report atually started with Ughelli Niger Delta Youth Movement. The action of Delta state cannot be used to represent SS. They have spoken for themselves, that is their own opinion not SS.
Re: NDYM Backs Jonathan On Subsidy Removal! by Goldcon: 10:05am On Jan 05, 2012
I think what my people (Niger Delta) should continue to protest seriously is the long years of exploitation by the other regions. They should fight for TRUE FEDERALISM AND RESOURCE CONTROL. Them we will all see what will become of all these other state govts dat are lazing about, relying solely on Abuja/oil monthly sharing.

Then i believe the protest in these other regions/states will be for a different reason, and not subsidy removal.

Most of the SW and a few other states can survive (at least averagely) without oil allocation cos they have agriculture, human capital etc. but the SS CANNOT survive without oil. because agriculture has been damaged by oil exploration and the govt has not made the best of the oil wealth in creating other sources of income. So what happens to us in the SS when this oil finishes.

Incidentally, the useless NTA aired this guys view in the 9pm news of 2nights ago

As strict adherents to ‘no pain, no gain’ philosophy of life.

If the group believes so much in no pain, no gain, why did they bother to use militancy protest to draw attention to underdevelopment in Niger Delta, they should have continue enduring the pain with the hope of gaining later instead of protesting. Hypocrites,

What Government is asking for is to sell petroleum products at the same price with USA and not subsidy removal. Let us just sell every commodity at US price and pay our workers, US salary too.

Re: NDYM Backs Jonathan On Subsidy Removal! by Nobody: 10:55am On Jan 05, 2012
Subsidy removal is best thing for the future of Nigeria. The only people who deserve subsidy are the Niger-Deltans. The other alternative is 100% resource COntrol. No contribution No Consumption, every region should find its natural resources for "One Nigeria"

@1st bolded.
There was resource control b4 the full exploration of oil and the SS/SE benefited from other pple's wealth on the average or were 'parasites' as beaf and co would say to the other regions (west especially), in fact it is one of urs who agitated for continuation of that system and by extension one Nigeria.

@second bolded part
u shld read up the history of tin minning in Nigeria and see how every region got treated well with wealth from the pleteau region, the location of tin minning r in bad shape today and is useless, but we dont see them kidnapping white workers in that region. The SS/SE should learn to accomodate other pple.
Dont forget OBJ gave u guys 13% of ur oil revenue back and NDDC. What has the Gej u r defending blindly done or plan to do for the SS/SE, if u guys feel cheated why not use Gej's influence and increase it to say 40% or more, open ur eyes and realize what is unfolding in Nigeria, Gej is sitting in Aso rock using the North's presidential slot according to PDP internal arrangement and most of his policies r meant to appease them. The petrol subsidy is one of the few benefits that gets to the average Nigerian realiably.

Re: NDYM Backs Jonathan On Subsidy Removal! by musiwa43: 11:11am On Jan 05, 2012
amachie is Igbo,  governor of river state.

first of all igbo people will not support on resource control because the igbos have nothing to control. the igbo people depend on the federal govt. akwa ibom have no oil on land, so what will akwa ibom be controlling. do you think fake oil derivation is resource control. or blowing up of oil pipeline going to kaduna is what they are claim they have oil in bayelsa state, basically I have said. bayelsa i doubt make 14 billion naira to the govt of nigeria each month.

Oloribiri is a dead oil field. those people shouting resource control did not see the satellite pictures of Nigeria before shouting. they assume they have alot of oil. and did not know that tinubu and oil marketers were only playing game with them.

Re: NDYM Backs Jonathan On Subsidy Removal! by Nobody: 11:11am On Jan 05, 2012
13% is not same thing as taxable 100% resource control which is true Federalism. Every State should explore their resources and stop depending on oil subsidy.
Re: NDYM Backs Jonathan On Subsidy Removal! by sheyguy: 11:21am On Jan 05, 2012
If Nigeria started out with 100% resnurce control do u think the ND will be where it is today?
Talking about taxes, i will leave it to musiwa,,. to show u who pays tax in this country.
