I have repeatedly experienced issues when attempting to carry out transfers via MTN’s USSD service. Each time I dial the transfer code, an amount of ₦6.90 is deducted from my balance, after which I receive an “SP service failure” message and the transaction is not completed. When I attempt the transaction again, another deduction is made without any successful transfer. These repeated deductions without service delivery are unacceptable and amount to unfair billing |

SYSTEMS ARE PREDICTABLE - On Makoko. There no doubt that Lagos needs to grow. And yes we know that Urban land grabbing happens everywhere in the world. It's not new. From China to the United States, to Lagos. So what is happening in Makoko is not new. What is different is the absence of humanity. And that absence is what makes it painful, and hurtful. In China, homes are demolished daily for urban development. Entire communities are cleared to make way for new cities, highways, and industrial zones. But before demolition happens, a system is already in place: People are counted Families are documented Compensation is defined Relocation is planned New housing is prepared before displacement You can debate China’s politics all day, but one fact remains: Displacement there is predictable, structured, and system-driven. People don’t wake up to bulldozers without knowing what comes next. In the United States, urban renewal displaced millions as well. Highways destroyed neighborhoods, especially low-income and Black communities. Yet even there, displacement followed legal frameworks, court processes, compensation structures, housing policies, and records that acknowledged those affected. Now compare that with Makoko. No transparent data. No clear relocation plan. No dignity in execution. Just force, fear, and survival. The tragedy of Makoko is not development. The tragedy is development without systems. Development without empathy. Development without responsibility. Cities must grow. Urban renewal is inevitable. But when people are treated as objects and obstacles instead of stakeholders, development becomes inhuman, even when it claims to be progress. China relocated millions while building new cities, not because they are morally superior, but because systems were designed before action was taken. What hurts is not that Makoko is changing to a beautiful skyline. What hurts is that people are being erased without a future designed for them. This is not an argument against development. It is a call for humane, system-led development. Because where systems are absent, power is see as cruel. Daniel ADENIYI #LeadershipArchitect https://www.facebook.com/share/1AaqxnsiRi/ |

ANigerian lawyer and human rights advocate, Franc Utoo, on Wednesday appeared before the United States Congress, where he accused the Nigerian government of deliberately downplaying the massacre and genocide, particularly in the Middle Belt region of the country. Utoo also raised concerns over the alleged use of about $9million in unbudgeted Nigerian taxpayers’ funds to hire foreign lobbyists, instead of addressing the humanitarian crisis facing thousands of displaced victims of violence. Speaking during the congressional session, Utoo, a former Principal Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue State between 2020 and 2023, said he was testifying not only as a lawyer and policy advocate but also as a direct victim and survivor of attacks on Christian communities. He told U.S. lawmakers that he hails from Yelwata community in Benue State, one of the areas most affected by violent attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani militias. https://saharareporters.com/2026/01/15/i-have-13-siblings-all-currently-idps-camp-nigerian-lawyer-tells-us-congress-tinubu-govt?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwPWORdjbGNrA9YzCWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHhjnGpxk_8wRnFeDhipN8WSbs9EYMoEZ89dAZx6fC1UQlNXaAzYFrSA93OpH_aem_SOCyfD8iZ9aSOic2nCXczw |
