If the Obas have no spiritual powers to protect his people against amenies during attack (as in the case of Fulani terrorist) then they're just playing. Some Obas are doing well Sha. The Soun just announced that he would not give any one cheiftancy title except you invested bigly in Ogbomosho. The Ooni himself is using his status to draw investment all over Yorubaland. The Alaafin needs to start doing the same and forget supremacy battles. |

Lanre1st: Oyo empire is past tense.
Leadership is earned not hereditary Exactly.. Check the below.. Ife birthed Oyo, and Oyo birthed Ibadan. It's like the Byzantine now saying he is the Oga of Ottoman and Roman. Or the British saying he is the Oga of America.. Na for their pocket dem be oga. The Alaafin is funny. He wants to take the PDP government of Makinde to court over supremacist ideology.

Egbaland has the greatest terrain to unleash defeat on invaders. In warfare, terrain matters a lot.
That's why US couldn't defeat the Taliban and Iran’s edge in hiding missiles and other powerful military assets inside mountains but launch the missiles from mountain tops. Same as Nepal during the defunct British empire colonial expansion. There were Ebga soldiers in the Ibadan soldiers too. Remember that Ibadan was settled by soldiers from various Yoruba kingdoms. All these soldiers, on defeating Owu, did not return home and instead created the first true republican kingdom of Yorubaland. And the Egba settlement in Abeokuta itself was busy pushing back the Dahomeans. |

He gave Ooni Sijuade so much headache.. oh well, now the ones in new Oyo state are doing same to him. Maybe Ibadan would get their own state eventually too. If he misbehave, the same governor can still remove him. He better be humble. That was how the Governor of Ondo ignored him at an event and shook the hands of other Obas present. Meanwhile, let's give Ibadan its flowers. If not for Ibadan, you name would have been AbdulRaman or Something since Ibadan were the ones that stopped the conquest of the Fulani jihadist that wanted to dip their sword in the Atlantic.

They are controlling their own domain. Governor Makinde and the Oyo state house of asembly started the rotation for justice, fairness, and equity. Truth be told, if not for Ibadan, Fulani would have colonized the whole of Yorubaland. They deserve their flowers. If not for Ibadan, alot of us would have been bearing names like AbdulRaman, Abdullahi, Abdulmalik e.t.c just like in Ilorin. The Ibadans were the ones that stopped the conquest of the Fulani jihadist at Oshogbo on the their way to dip their sword in the Atlantic ocean as per the desire of Uthman Dan Fodio.

Kukutente23: You're right about Oyo being the prime kingdom in Yorubaland but you need to know that when Ibadan was formed, Oyo had become a very weak empire that even relied on Ibadan for protection and legitimacy. Oyo was the foremost political empire but Ibadan was never a conquered or vassal state to it. That's why Ibadan has a song that says they've never been conquered Yoruba kingdom not Yorubaland. To this Treaty the following certificate was added by the accredited messengers from the Ibadan Authoritiest:
[i]Oyo is commonly known as the Yoruba Kingdom, and embraces the towns of Oyo, Awe, Akinmarin, Ilora, Iseyin, Papa, Tede, also Sabe country.
"We hereby further certify that the towns named in the margint are under the direct influence of the Balogun and authorities of Ibadan, and that the above enumerated towns and country of Sabe, with their territories, also the towns detailed in the margin, represent now Yoruba proper. |

Okexchange: LOL. The treaty was even signed in Ibadan I guess. As long as you talk about Yoruba identity and Yorubaland, you are literally talking about Oyo bro. That’s why the Alaafin was telling Ooni last time that Ooni has no right to give any title with Yorubaland to anyone and he’s right bro. You keep mixing up Yoruba kingdom below with the present day Yorubaland. This is exactly one of the major reason why the Alaafin is being disrespected by others. He can't seem to tell the difference just like you.

We were talking about Yoruba and Yorubaland. And yea, the Yoruba name happens to be recent and every one accepted the name because we needed a uniform identity but prior that only the Oyo people were referred to as Yoruba. That’s what I was saying. They own the name. You are correct. |

Culture › Re: Respect The Olubadan Stool Or Face Consequences - Ibadan Stakeholders To Alaafin by Goodvibes007: 9:30am On Jan 13 |
Okexchange: Did you notice only the Oyo treaty has the Yoruba name? That’s why the Oyos owned the name exclusively. You can see that Ife didn’t use the name. It was later that every Yoruba chose to accept the Yoruba identity for uniformity. So whenever anyone talks about Yoruba and Yorubaland, one is literally referring to old Oyo land (which doesn’t covered the whole lands of the descendants of Odua of course). I think that’s where the pride of the new Alaafin is coming from but he failed to realize its a new order in town. No descendants of Oodua still owes their loyalty to Oyo. I’m pretty sure he will realize soon that he’s just the Alaafin of Oyo ile and has no subject anywhere anymore. We all never used the Yoruba name. The yoruba name was recent. Prior to everyone using Yoruba, we were called by our tribes e.g. Ijebu. Ife, Ijebu, Awori, e.t.c - Ife, Ijebu, Ondo, Ekiti were never part of the Oyo empire. The Ga in Ghana would even tell you that they left Ife before the formation of Oyo. Oyo is recent in Yoruba kingdoms. Ife ana in Togo and Ife kekere (Usen) in Edo state would all tell you they left from Ife. The Aworis in Lagos would also always remind you that their progenitor, Olofin Ogunfunminire, was an Ife Prince. |

Kukutente23: If ur was in the days of old, the Basorun of ibadan will send aroko to the errant Alaafin who will have no other option but to commit suicide. He should go and check the history books Ibadan became an empire of its own and help ensure that Kurunmu did not tell the Alaafin to commit suicide. Ibadan defied the Oyo mesi, then destroyed Ijaiye that was protecting Oyo to prove a point that Ibadan were now the new overlords. Ibadan also collected tribute from Eastern Yoruba lands (Ondo and Ekiti). Something the Oyo empire was never able to achieve. |

I believe the old benin kingdom is not the present one cos many things have been lost but u still can't disrespect the great oba of benin or olu of warrinor I am sure the obi of onitsha despite knowing many things have changed but history can't be changed. Okexchange: They do. They sign the treaty on behalf of us all and they also own the Yoruba identity. Wether it’s the present or not. Little can be done about that now. In that treaty, do you know that Ife and other kingdoms also signed separately. I have attached the towns he signed for in my earlier comment. Ife's signature below at the same time the Alafin signed for the Yoruba towns (Oyo Atiba, Awe, Akinmarin, Ilora, Iseyin, Papa, Tede. and Sabe.)

Okexchange: We know Oyo owns Yorubaland and the Yoruba identity but Alaafin should calm down abeg. The empire is long gone. Oyo does not own Yorubaland. The Yorubaland in question is not the present day Yorubaland. The documented Yorubaland he owns are: Towns of Oyo Atiba, Awe, Akinmarin, Ilora, Iseyin, Papa, Tede. and Sabe. Most of those towns are also no longer in existence.

Not suprised. Same man that refused to honour a lot of the kings that came for his coronation but instead quickly ran to Sokoto and Ilorin to pay homage to Fulanis Emirs that sanctioned the destruction of Oyo Ile. He was even bowing in to the Emir in Ilorin. He is also good friend with that Emir wannabe in Iwo that is equally misbehaving.
