Nnamdi Azikiwe influenced and encouraged Kwame Nkrumah to study in Lincoln University in USA. Just read the chapter one of the book tithle Kweme Nkrumah: The Great African By Woeli Dekutsey. One person who also influenced Kwame Nkrumah in his plans to study in the USA was a Nigerian who was practising journalism in the Gold Coast( Ghana). His name was Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. Nnamdi Azikiwe, the seasoned journalist had been educated at Lincoln University in America. He had come back from his studies in the USA and was regularly writing for a newspaper, The African Morning Post, in the Gold Coast( Ghana). His powerful articles attacked colonial rule and encouraged Africans to sharks off the colonial mentality and spare no efforts in fighting for self- determination or independence. Following the encouragement of Dr. Azikiwe, Kwame Nkrumah applied to Lincoln University in USA. When the good news came that he had secured admission. Kwame Nkrumah was still teaching at Amissano, not too far from Elimina. But, unfortunately for him, he did not have enough money to pay his fare to America. He therefore decided to stow away in a ship at Takoradi harbour to travel to his uncle, H.K. Biney at Apapa wharf in Lagos, to seek his help. He succeeded in hiding in the boiler room of the ship. In spite of the heat and the inconvenience, Kwame Nkrumah remained undetected until the ship docked in Lagos and he managed to sneak away.
