Not very serious compared to Army basic traning
It's just meant to give you a leadership role,sense of purpose and also to give you some type of structure in their life...They're even allowed to have their phones and they're also allowed to go to town everyday...And also,No they have to apply to the Ministry of Defence first and go through Basic training

Hopefully we'll get to see those marines in action...My understanding is that the ones trained in civil unrest can be deployed anywhere in the country in a matter in a 2hour-2hour30Minutes time bracket...
