The former Managing Director of Daar Communications had shortly before the party's governorship primary withdrawn from the APC, citing alleged discrimination and lack of transparency within the party. NANS Elect New President
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has
elected a New President to spear-head the affairs of the
organization for the next one year. He is Comrade Chinonso
Obasi, a Student of the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.
Comrade Obasi was declared winner at the end of the NANS
Convention held in Gombe State University over the weekend.
In his acceptance speech, the New NANS President said he was
happy to witness the event and promised to bring to an end to
the confusion which had trailed the process leading to his
election, in what he described as the desperate attempt by some
agent of the “State” to manipulate the process of electing the
new leadership of the Association, in favor of an anointed
candidate of a political party in the country. He further promised
to ensure that the interests of Nigerian students are at all times
paramount on his mind.
In his words, Comrade Obasi promised to return the NANS
back to its original place of pride as a campus based Students
organization with a promise to effect a radical change in the
public perception of the organization.
“We will work assiduously towards achieving the objectives of
the founding fathers of the organization, which is to ensure that
the aspirations of Nigerian students are achieved and their
interests protected. It is certainly a tortuous and demanding path
that we have chosen, but we trust that God will grant us the
courage to change the things we can, the fortitude to bear those
we cannot and the wisdom to differentiate between them." Obasi
said.

The Divine Mandate Pastors, a group of
over 500 Pastors that worked for the
emergence of Governor David Umahi of
Ebonyi State, has descended into crisis.
The peace that existed among the pastors
crumbled on Sunday.
A leadership crisis suddenly split the group
as the pastors met at the Pastoral Centre,
Mile 50 Abakaliki.
The meeting became acrimonious when a
faction announced the removal of Director
Ephraim Ononye and immediately replaced
him with Ifeanyi Igwe.
The Senior Special Adviser to Governor
Umahi on Religion and Welfare matters,
Abraham Nwali, attended the meeting.
Mr. Ononye was accused of general
misconduct, unruly behaviour, arrogance,
autocratic conducts, and hostility to members
of the Divine Mandate Pastors, a group
convened by Governor Umahi during the
electioneering campaign and who worked for
the success of the governor during the
election.
In a resolution signed by some Coordinators
in the 13 local government areas of the state,
the faction also accused Mr. Ononye of
failing to summon meetings since the 2015
general election.
But in a reaction, some of the Pastors loyal
to Mr. Ononye, including Ukoma Nnachi
(Afikpo South), Ogbonnaya Inya(Afikpo
North), Agwu Lawrence(Ivo), Okike
Lawrence(Ohaozara) and Alloy Ogah
(Ikwo), said Mr. Ononye remained the
group’s leader and could not be removed by
anyone except Governor Umahi who made
him leader.
“Some disgruntled elements cannot impeach our leader
Ononye because they don’t have the locus standi to do that.
They did not elect or appoint him to lead us, it is the
Governor who made him our leader that has the right to
remove him,” they said.
They cautioned the group’s members to desist from
politicking and concentrate on their duties as clergymen.
Addressing reporters in Abakaliki, the Senior Special
Adviser to Governor Umahi on religion and Welfare matters,
Mr. Nwali, described the leadership crisis as a family rift.
‘’Since the divine mandate pastors were founded at the
discretion of the Governor, there will not be reshufflement of
any sort without his consent,” Mr. Nwali said.
‘’But from indications, there are lots of dissatisfaction in the
system, good number of them are quite dissatisfied that since
after the election they have not actually converged to sing, to
pray or to even discuss their affairs.
‘’They feel like abandoned sheep without shepherded and
that bitterness is what led to their protest against their leader
during the meeting who they said they have removed.
‘’We have told them that since they are all partners in
progress, they should remain calm until when the governor
returns when he will interface with them.
“Because of that family discomfort, we will not give them the
money meant for the empowerment of the poor in the state.
It was gathered that the pastors nearly exchanged blows at the
meeting when the issue was being discussed prompting Mr.
Nwali to hurriedly say a closing prayer to end the meeting. |
A case study of Nigeria YOU were down and out so early, too early in the game. Down and out at the very moment your country needed you most. I pitied you. I was sad for you. I cried for you. The tears in your eyes drew tears in my own eyes, just like your mother’s tears. Just like the tears of the whole of Portugal, crying for the untimely exit of their most valuable player. Tears like the tears of death. So bitter. So painful. Like the pain of your mother giving birth to you, naming you Cristiano, not knowing what you will become in life. Like in death, they stretchered you out of the field of play amid the standing ovation of hands clap ping in their millions in and out of the field. It was a terrible moment. It was a sad moment for football. But just when everyone had lost hope that the “Messiah” of Portugal was gone and defeat was imminent, God showed up to resurrect you and give your country the one heart-breaking goal, the one victory you longed for, you prayed for but never expected. The miracle working God did it once again, just like He did many years ago, when His only begot ten Son was at the point of defeat, nailed to the cross and killed but He reversed the irreversible. He brought His Son back to life in triumph, victorious, putting death to shame. The logic of the world last Sunday was that France would win. Everything pointed to la victoire— a French victory. But God had His own logic. Because His ways are not like our ways. His thoughts are not like our thoughts. He sees the things no man can see. He turns the impossible into possible. He makes a way where there is no way. That is why He is God, He is Jehovah Ebenezer—the stone of help. I was one of those who had tipped France to win. When you simply analyse the flowchart, you can’t but be impressed with the way the French had played so far, compared to the Portuguese that were lackadaisical and who relied solely on their football “Jesus” to win and deliver to them the elusive cup, the Holy Grail. Everything was on the side of France, history was on the side of France, the crowd was on the side of France. But then God gave victory to the underdog this time around. Just like David slew Goliath in the Bible. Ironically, this is a game where you are the Goliath —the giant of football, the great Ronaldo. You went down the first time but came back to the field after treatment only to return to the stands amid tears when you couldn’t continue. The spirit was willing but the flesh was weak. Outside the field of play, you did not give up. It was as if to say the downfall of a man is not the end of his life. Suddenly, the world saw a new Ronaldo, a transfigured Ronaldo, a leader, a field marshal commanding his troops from the sidelines. Suddenly, Portugal had two managers, both dishing out instructions—Fernando Santos and an excited Cristiano Ronaldo heading and kicking an imaginary ball from the touchline. Oh, you really impressed me. At half-time, you were motivating your teammates with your team talk, lifting their morale, giving them hope, assuring them that this was one battle that must be won and they will win. “Listen people, I’m sure we will win,” you told them. “So stay together and fight for it.” Like a prophet, you singled out one attacker, the 28-year-old Guinea Bissau-born Eder, a jour neyman rejected by Swansea and loaned to the French club Lille, who never had a good reputation for scoring, a nearly rejected stone who became the cornerstone. You gave him a pep talk. You told him he would be the one to score. And he took the message into his head and stored it there. Exactly 109 minutes into the long, extended game, the moment came and Eder took his chance to fire his name into history with a long-range mis sile of a shot which beat the fully stretched out hands of the French goalie Hugo Loris to enter a tight corner of the net. It was one goal, one straw that broke the camel’s back. As to be expected, Portugal erupted in ec stasy while the whole of France were devastated or desolee as they call it in French. I agree with the French striker Griezmann who won the golden boot that “football is cruel but it’s also magnificent.” Lessons In everything, there are lessons to be learnt. The lesson in Portugal’s victory, for me, is this: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Don’t depend on one man and think without him, you are nothing. After the exit of Ronaldo, the Portuguese finally woke up from slumber to play as a team and to claim their destiny. In life, no one is indispensable. When one door closes, a better door opens. Just like Portugal depended so much on Ronaldo, Nigeria has depended for too long on oil as the main driver of our economy. Now that our Ronaldo is wounded and is off the field, let us wake up and play to our strength as a team to score for Nigeria. There are other players and other resources that we can count on to revive our ailing economy. Chances are if Ronaldo had not been sidelined by injury and if he had not been stretchered out of the field of play like a dead man, Portugal might not have been victorious. Sometimes, something needs to die or give way for others to live a fruitful life. The Bible says it all: “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” Something must first die in Nigeria or be sidelined like Ronaldo before we can lift the victory cup of our economic recovery. That is the end of my sermon today. Whoever has ears, let them hear. |

THE STATES THAT WERE SKIPPED ON THE
AMBASSADORIAL NOMINEE LIST HAVE NO
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES, SAYS SGF:
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),
Engr. David Babachir Lawal, has said that the four states that
were ommitted from President Muhammadu Buhari's list of
ambassadorial nominees sent to the National Assembly had no
qualified candidates.
According to Babachir, "specific criteria had been set by the
Presidency to pick nominees and the four states without
nominees have no career diplomats in the Foreign Service who
met the objective".
"Four states didn't make it one way or the other, however, not
necessarily on the criteria of seniority. There are criteria and
qualifications that are required to post you to go and represent
Nigeria, not just because while in the Foreign Service or the
civil service you were able to make Grade Level 16 or 17, quite
a number of qualifications are needed".
The SGF also condemned the National Assembly's decision to
suspend the confirmation of the list of 47 ambassadorial
nominees forwarded by President Buhari earlier this month,
saying, "the issues could have been sorted out with only a
phone call".
Babachir argued, that where the constitution allows the principle
and reflection of the Federal character is only in the appointment
of ministers.
He also maintained that "the constitution makes it clear that it is
the prerogative of the President to nominate Ambassadors and
the criteria he will use to do so is also the constitutional right of
the President. Whatever criteria he chooses to use is
constitutional".
The four states without ambassadorial nominees are Ebonyi,
Bayelsa, Ondo and Plateau. Although, some states like Kano
and Katsina got two nominees each. |

What is corruption? Is corruption not a crime? Hence crime is any behaviour, attitude or action capable of causing harm to the society... Of course a pharmacist that opens a hospital and starts operation there as a surgeon is corrupt, A san you appoint as a minister for power that's the height of corruption... TSA is a means towards an end which is corruption.... |

Alleluia! sing to Jesus!
His the scepter, his the throne.
Alleluia! His the triumph,
his the victory alone.
Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion
thunder like a mighty flood.
Jesus out of every nation
hath redeemed us by his blood.
Alleluia! not as orphans
are we left in sorrow now;
Alleluia! He is near us,
faith believes, nor questions how;
Though the cloud from sight received him
when the forty days were o'er
shall our hearts forget his promise,
'I am with you evermore'?
Alleluia! bread of heaven,
here on earth our food and stay!
Alleluia! here the sinful
flee to thee from day to day.
Intercessor, Friend of sinners,
earth's Redeemer, plead for me.
Where the songs of all the sinless
sweep across the crystal sea.
Alleluia! King eternal,
thee the Lord of lords we own;
Alleluia! born of Mary,
earth thy footstool,
heaven thy throne.
Thou within the veil hast entered,
robed in flesh, our great High Priest.
Thou on earth both Priest and Victim
in the Eucharistic Feast. |
The lessons from the resurrection story of CHRIST. 1. God will always finish what he starts. 2. When it is finished on man's side, it continues on GOD's side. 3. God will do what you think will never happen. 4. God who raised Jesus from the grave, has more amazing blessings for you. The story of Easter is the story of amazing blessings from GOD. 5. The resurrection is a Divine statement, that devil didn't win and can never win, Jesus has won for HE is no longer in the grave.... Christ won the battle for you. 6. The resurrection of Jesus have given a new kind of Life, our life is no longer based on our effort and the law, but based on GOD's Mercy and Grace. At the resurrection of Jesus Mercy and Grace is activated. A NEW KIND OF LIFE HAVE EMERGED. |
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever
believes has eternal life. I am the
bread of life. Your fathers ate the
manna in the wilderness, and they
died. This is the bread that comes
down from heaven, so that one may
eat of it and not die. I am the living
bread that came down from heaven.
If anyone eats of this bread, he will
live forever. And the bread that I will
give for the life of the world is my
flesh.”
The Jews then disputed among
themselves, saying, “How can this
man give us his flesh to eat?” So
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say
to you, unless you eat the flesh of the
Son of Man and drink his blood, you
have no life in you. Whoever feeds
on my flesh and drinks my blood has
eternal life, and I will raise him up on
the last day. For my flesh is true
food, and my blood is true drink.
Whoever feeds on my flesh and
drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him |
